This document summarizes research on the effects of vine harvesting on root yield of different sweet potato varieties in Uganda. The study identified NASPOT 11 as the best dual-purpose variety, with higher root yields compared to other varieties tested across locations, and a root-to-vine ratio categorizing it as highly dual-purpose. Harvesting vines from the local variety reduced its root yield by over 60%. The study concludes that NASPOT 11 is suitable for farmers wanting to harvest vines for silage while maintaining good root productivity, whereas NASPOT 12 and 13 are also suitable but lower dual-purpose.
