This document summarizes research on the development of dual-purpose sweetpotato varieties in Rwanda through participatory breeding. Researchers conducted trials of germplasm across three locations, evaluating traits like yield, disease tolerance, and vine quality. Six varieties were selected and released that have a high root-to-vine ratio, making them suitable for both food and animal feed. The released varieties include two orange-fleshed types and can help smallholder farmers by providing both food and livestock fodder. Further research is recommended to evaluate cattle preferences and digestibility of the new varieties' vines.
