Optimal electric distribution network configuration using adaptive sunflower ...journalBEEI
Network reconfiguration (NR) is a powerful approach for power loss reduction in the distribution system. This paper presents a method of network reconfiguration using adaptive sunflower optimization (ASFO) to minimize power loss of the distribution system. ASFO is developed based on the original sunflower optimization (SFO) that is inspired from moving of sunflower to the sun. In ASFO, the mechanisms including pollination, survival and mortality mechanisms have been adjusted compared to the original SFO to fit with the network reconfiguration problem. The numerical results on the 14-node and 33-node systems have shown that ASFO outperforms to SFO for finding the optimal network configuration with greater success rate and better obtained solution quality. The comparison results with other previous approaches also indicate that ASFO has better performance than other methods in term of optimal network configuration. Thus, ASFO is a powerful method for the NR.

Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) is one of the essential controller operations of any Photo-Voltaic (PV) cell design. Developing an efficient MPPT system includes a significant challenge as there are various forms of uncertainty factors that results in higher degree of fluctuation in current and voltage in PV cell. After reviewing existing system, it has been found that there is no presence of any benchmarked model to ensure a better form of computational model. Hence, this paper presents a novel and very simple design of MPPT without using any form of complex design mechanism nor including any form of frequently used iterative approach. The proposed model is completely focused on developing an algorithm that takes the input of voltage (open circuit), current (short circuit), and max power in order to obtain the peak power to be extracted from the PV cells. The study outcome shows faster response time and better form of analysis of current-voltage-power for given state of PV cells.
Design of Hybrid Solar Wind Energy System in a Microgrid with MPPT Techniques IJECEIAES
DC Microgrid is one feasible and effective solution to integrate renewable energy sources as well as to supply electricity. This paper proposes a DC microgrid with enhanced Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) techniques for wind and solar energy systems. In this paper, the PV system power generation is enhanced by introducing a two-model MPPT technique that combines incremental conductance and constant voltage MPPT algorithms. Also, for the Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS) with pitch angle controlling technique, an Optimal Power Control MPPT technique is added. The Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation technique is introduced on grid side converter to improve the supply to the grid. The performance of proposed system is analyzed and the efficiency obtained with these methods is enhanced as compared with the previous methods.
Performance comparison of distributed generation installation arrangement in ...journalBEEI
Placing Distributed Generation (DG) into a power network should be planned wisely. In this paper, the comparison of having different installation arrangement of real-power DGs in transmission system for loss control is presented. Immune-brainstorm-evolutionary programme (IBSEP) was chosen as the optimization technique. It is found that optimizing fixed-size DGs locations gives the highest loss reduction percentage. Apart from that, scattered small-sized DGs throughout a network minimizes transmission loss more than allocating one biger-sized DG at a location.
The operational performance of a three phase induction motor is impaired by unbalanced voltage supply due to the generation of negative sequence currents, and negative sequence torque which increase motor losses and also trigger torque pulsations. In this study, data mining approach was applied in developing a predictive model using the historical, simulated operational data of a motor for classifying sample motor data under the appropriate type of voltage supply i.e. balanced (BV) and unbalance voltage supply (UB = 1% to 5%). A dataset containing the values of a three phase induction motor’s performance parameter values was analysed using KNIME (Konstanz Information Miner) analytics platform. Three predictive models; the Naïve Bayes, Decision Tree and the Probabilistic Neural Network (PNN) Predictors were deployed for comparative analysis. The dataset was divided into two; 70% for model training and learning, and 30% for performance evaluation. The three predictors had accuracies of 98.649%, 100% and 98.649% respectively, and this confirms the suitability of data mining methods for predictive evaluation of a three phase induction motor’s performance using machine learning.

In this paper, the artificial neural network (ANN) has been utilized for rotating machinery faults detection and classification. First, experiments were performed to measure the lateral vibration signals of laboratory test rigs for rotor-disk-blade when the blades are defective. A rotor-disk-blade system with 6 regular blades and 5 blades with various defects was constructed. Second, the ANN was applied to classify the different x- and y-axis lateral vibrations due to different blade faults. The results based on training and testing with different data samples of the fault types indicate that the ANN is robust and can effectively identify and distinguish different blade faults caused by lateral vibrations in a rotor. As compared to the literature, the present paper presents a novel work of identifying and classifying various rotating blade faults commonly encountered in rotating machines using ANN. Experimental data of lateral vibrations of the rotor-disk-blade system in both x- and y-directions are used for the training and testing of the network.

In this paper, a new approach for energy minimization in energy harvesting real time systems has been investigated. Lifetime of a real time systems is depend upon its battery life. Energy is a parameter by which the lifetime of system can be enhanced. To work continuously and successively, energy harvesting is used as a regular source of energy. EDF (Earliest Deadline First) is a traditional real time tasks scheduling algorithm and DVS (Dynamic Voltage Scaling) is used for reducing energy consumption. In this paper, we propose an Energy Harvesting Earliest Deadline First (EH-EDF) scheduling algorithm for increasing lifetime of real time systems using DVS for reducing energy consumption and EDF for tasks scheduling with energy harvesting as regular energy supply. Our experimental results show that the proposed approach perform better to reduce energy consumption and increases the system lifetime as compared with existing approaches.
The aim of this research is the speed tracking of the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) using an intelligent Neural-Network based adapative backstepping control. First, the model of PMSM in the Park synchronous frame is derived. Then, the PMSM speed regulation is investigated using the classical method utilizing the field oriented control theory. Thereafter, a robust nonlinear controller employing an adaptive backstepping strategy is investigated in order to achieve a good performance tracking objective under motor parameters changing and external load torque application. In the final step, a neural network estimator is integrated with the adaptive controller to estimate the motor parameters values and the load disturbance value for enhancing the effectiveness of the adaptive backstepping controller. The robsutness of the presented control algorithm is demonstrated using simulation tests. The obtained results clearly demonstrate that the presented NN-adaptive control algorithm can provide good trackingperformances for the speed trackingin the presence of motor parameter variation and load application.

Optimal design of adaptive power scheduling using modified ant colony optimi...IJECEIAES
For generating and distributing an economic load scheduling approach, artificial neural network (ANN) has been introduced, because power generation and power consumption are economically non-identical. An efficient load scheduling method is suggested in this paper. Normally the power generation system fails due to its instability at peak load time. Traditionally, load shedding process is used in which low priority loads are disconnected from sources. The proposed method handles this problem by scheduling the load based on the power requirements. In many countries the power systems are facing limitations of energy. An efficient optimization algorithm is used to periodically schedule the load demand and the generation. Ant colony optimization (ACO) based ANN is used for this optimal load scheduling process. The present work analyse the technical economical and time-dependent limitations. Also the works meets the demanded load with minimum cost of energy. Inorder to train ANN back propagation (BP) technics is used. A hybrid training process is described in this work. Global optimization algorithms are used to provide back propagation with good initial connection weights.

In low-power wireless electronic devices, Energy harvesting generators have received increasing research interest in recent years. This paper describes the design and analysis of electrostatic transduction based MEMS energy harvester. Due to the benefit of a folded beam configuration that can be displace large dimensions and compliant in desired direction and stiffer in orthogonal direction. Since, large displacement of proof mass of energy harvester renders the enhance performance. Hence, the folded beam configuration of harvest has been modeled and designed and optimized the dimension of geometry. FEM simulations using COMSOL were conducted to evaluate the natural frequency and mode shape of the system and compared results with that of analytically calculated values. Spice circuit of harvester has been modeled and performed simulation to evaluate the output power of the harvester in LTSPICE. Parameter analysis was conducted to determine the optimal load and optimal output power.
The power supply system is completely hooked into three major parts. First one is generation, second one is
transmission and the last one is distribution of electricity supply at the range of 415V to 400V approx. But while
the fault occurs it affects other lines additionally, and this causes difficulties for local people and additionally
perturb the flow of current in different areas. This eccentric and perturbed supply of nuisance is very
hazardous as it cannot be ceased when it comes to equal distribution of electricity. The area suffering from
faults and the other both get affected. So to stop all these we have implemented this project of Coordination of
over current relay utilising optimisation technique. We have utilised crow search algorithms with Kennedy as
swarm perspicacity algorithms which are very auxiliary in storing excess electricity supply and can be used
when needed. With the avail of this we can renovate the potency supply and this will conclusively implement
our main objective of this project.

Coal-Fired Boiler Fault Prediction using Artificial Neural Networks IJECEIAES
Boiler fault is a critical issue in a coal-fired power plant due to its high temperature and high pressure characteristics. The complexity of boiler design increases the difficulty of fault investigation in a quick moment to avoid long duration shut-down. In this paper, a boiler fault prediction model is proposed using artificial neural network. The key influential parameters analysis is carried out to identify its correlation with the performance of the boiler. The prediction model is developed to achieve the least misclassification rate and mean squared error. Artificial neural network is trained using a set of boiler operational parameters. Subsequenlty, the trained model is used to validate its prediction accuracy against actual fault value from a collected real plant data. With reference to the study and test results, two set of initial weights have been tested to verify the repeatability of the correct prediction. The results show that the artificial neural network implemented is able to provide an average of above 92% prediction rate of accuracy.
Autotuning of pid controller for robot arm and magnet levitation planteSAT Journals
Abstract
One of the most essential work of the control engineer is tuning of controller. Majority of the controller used in industry are of the
PID type. An auto tuning is one of the method of controller tuning in which tuning of the parameters of controller is done
automatically and possibly, without any user interaction expect from initiating the operation. Present study emphasis on the relay
based auto tuning of PID controller. An auto-tuning method is implemented based on a relay experiment to determine the ultimate
gain and the ultimate period, with which the PID parameters are obtained using the Ziegler-Nichols tuning rules. An auto tuning
of robot arm model and magnet levitation model are carried out. Performance of relay based auto tuning on the basis of integral
square error is better than artificial neural network.

To Study, Analysis and Implementation of Maximum Power Point Tracking using C...ijtsrd
As we know, energy generated from the solar and wind systems is not necessarily continuous and consistent. In India, the weather also varies such that in gloomy conditions there will be limited power from the PV battery, while in summer it will be at its highest. So, the weather decreases the systems effectiveness. As a result, an energy efficient approach is required to find an optimum point of action to obtain the full amount of energy under various atmospheric conditions. This paper suggested an updated turbulence and maximal power point monitoring controller for wind and solar hybrid energy systems. The controller uses the modified fixed disruption and observation system to achieve the MPP by changing the service cycle of each input module. Results are presented on a 200W wind system as well as a 400W solar wind energy system with differing irradiation strength and wind speed to illustrate the merits of the experiment. Reliability Constrained Unit Commitment Considering the Effect of DG and DR P...IJECEIAES
Due to increase in energy prices at peak periods and increase in fuel cost, involving Distributed Generation (DG) and consumption management by Demand Response (DR) will be unavoidable options for optimal system operations. Also, with high penetration of DGs and DR programs into power system operation, the reliability criterion is taken into account as one of the most important concerns of system operators in management of power system. In this paper, a Reliability Constrained Unit Commitment (RCUC) at presence of time-based DR program and DGs integrated with conventional units is proposed and executed to reach a reliable and economic operation. Designated cost function has been minimized considering reliability constraint in prevailing UC formulation. The UC scheduling is accomplished in short-term so that the reliability is maintained in acceptable level. Because of complex nature of RCUC problem and full AC load flow constraints, the hybrid algorithm included Simulated Annealing (SA) and Binary Particle Swarm Optimization (BPSO) has been proposed to optimize the problem. Numerical results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method and considerable efficacy of the time-based DR program in reducing operational costs by implementing it on IEEE-RTS79.

encountered arithmetic operations in DSP applications. The proposed multi precision(MP) multiplier that incorporates variable precision, parallel processing (PP), and dedicated MP operands scheduling to provide optimum performance for a various operating conditions. The building blocks of the proposed reconfigurable multiplier can either work as independent smaller-precision multipliers or it also work parallel to form higher-precision multipliers. To reduce power consumption and delay, replaces the razor flip flop and voltage scaling unit .The Look up table (LUT) together with dynamic voltage and frequency management system configure the multiplier to work at low power consumption. The LUT stores the minimum voltages required for the multiplication of 8-bit, 16-bit and 32-bit multiplications. The multiplier consists of carry propagation adder which is replaced by carry select adder due to this a considerable delay reduction can be achieved. The MP multiplier is also consists of Frequency management unit makes the multiplier to operate at proper frequency. Finally, the proposed novel MP multiplier can further benefit from an operands scheduler that rearranges the input data, that determine the optimum voltage and frequency operating conditions for minimum power consumption. Experimental results show that the proposed MP Multiplier provides a 14.55% reduction in power consumption and 9.67% reduction in delay compared with conventional razor based DVS MP Multiplier. When combining this MP design with LUT, Parallel processing, and the operands scheduler, delay and power reduction can be achieved to a great extent. This paper successfully demonstrates that MP multiplier architecture can allow more aggressive frequency/supply voltage scaling for improved power and delay efficiency.

Faruqi3 1Azad Technical Campus, Bijnaur, Lucknow 2Assistant General Manager 3Azad Technical Campus, Bijnaur, Lucknow Abstract As the energy cost is rising steadily and the environmental pollution is becoming an important issue, the roles of process plant boilers like that of the sugar plants boilers need better understanding as they can be made to operate in either energy conserving or bio-mass conserving modes. However, practical models of the plants need to be developed before any effort at optimization and cogeneration is carried out. These boiler plants are difficult to model as they have non-linearities between input and output parameters and have large no. of parameters. Efforts have been reported in literature where techniques like that of Neural Networks have been used. A similar methodology has been evolved here successfully to model a 100 Ton water tube bagasse fired cogeneration boiler through back propagation trained Neural Networks. Keywords: Neural networks; Cogeneration; Process plant boilers.

INTRODUCTION An over view of the sugar plant Power Generation : With the rising energy costs, the importance of the sugar plant boilers is increasing day by day as there is a possibility that they can be made more efficient and used for cogeneration (producing both power and heat) as well. Sugar prices are generally volatile. There is always a tough competition in pricing. Sugar industry is also a large energy user. Most sugar mills often produce their own electricity to meet on site needs by burning bagasse or other fuels. This however often has not been in cogeneration made until very recently. The energy and the environment concerns today provide an incentive to produce electricity efficiently and to feed it to the grid. Much of the potential for energy generation has so far been wasted as there was neither perception nor the technology for it. The present work deals with the modeling of a power plant in a sugar factory to study its characteristics towards utilizing it more efficiently. 2. LITERATURE REVIEW 2.1 Efficiency of Process Power Plants
Premalatha et.al. [1] have studied the economics of sugar plants in India with advanced co-generation operations using high pressure boilers in place of conventional boilers. They have reported the need to switch to electrical drives as well towards increasing the efficiency further. Additional power generated may be considerably more than plants requirements. They also observed that an improved efficiency reduced the pollution for the same amount of power generated. Several studies of this type have been reported in literature
3. METHODOLOGY
3.1 Preamble Emissions from boilers always need reduction, besides the need to model and run boiler in process plants in an optimum fashion. Sugar plants are generally connected to Power Grids and thus if they save any power they can feed it to the grid. Due to complex relationships between in input and output parameters, building of models of process plants for understanding the operations is difficult. Neural Networks are general purpose modeling tools which are becoming popular for this type of applications. 3.2 Objective The objective of the study is to model a high pressure bagasse fired, heat extracting and condensing power plant (of a sugar factory) through its input / output parameters using a forward neural network model, which can be used to study and improve its performance. The proposition is shown in Fig No. 3.1 . 3.3 Selection of the Variables (Parameters)
The boiler used for the studies was a 100 Ton per hour water tube boiler located at a sugar mill in UP. Permission was obtained from the management for exploration and modeling. All the data was taken from the log book of the plant and was interpreted with the help of plant personnel. It was decided to take seven days continuous data to model the plant to

establish the feasibility. Considering the delay and reaction times in the plant four hourly averages were taken. A set of 164 four hourly observations were made available by the plant people. Out of this 146 observations were used for training the network and the rest were set aside for testing the network. Operation of a cogeneration plant may differ somewhat from normal plants. The present work is however based on the way the plant was actually operating. A limited number of input and output parameters, that matter, like bagasse consumption, drum level, ID fan pressure, ID fan current, FD fan current, FD fan pressure, Economizer, Outlet draft, Air pre heater, Inlet pressure, Economizer outlet flue gas temperature were chosen from the input side and Steam flow , Superheated steam pressure and Superheated steam temperature were chosen from the output side . 3.4 The Neural Network Model Adopted Operation of sugar plants and their power plant boilers is fairly similar in the country. In the light of discussions in the previous sections the open ended Back Propagation Algorithm was proposed to be used for modeling the Boiler Plant. After some trails and errors a regular network with two hidden layers was used with a total of 29 neurons in the hidden layers adopted as per common rules of thumb. Fig. 3.2 shows the conceptual flow chart of the activities carried out. This modeling effort matches with some of the boiler modeling efforts shown in the references Ozel [2] and Michael etal. [3]. In order to train a neural network, input data is normalized between 0 and one and given to the network. Each input set has a corresponding output set. Back Propagation (BP) method is adapted for learning in the neural network. In this algorithm the output of output-layer neuron is compared with teaching signal T as shown in Fig. 3.3 . To minimize the least square error margin, each connection weight and the threshold value of each neuron are changed in direction of straight line from output-layer to input-layer. The momentum and learning coefficients are the training parameters of the Back Propagation neural network. The momentum term promotes learning speed by rapidly changing connection weights of neurons. The learning coefficient controls the stability of the process. They have to be judiciously selected. Also optimum number of hidden layer and neurons in the layers determine the quality of the network.

4. INPUT DATA AND TRAINING Experimental data used in the study consists of a total of 161 sets taken from the working system. Out of these 146 data sets were used in training the network while 15 of these were used to test the system. Data sets were cleaned up and organized with the help of the persons from the plant. The configuration of the network evolved is as follows: Number of input first layer neurons 15 Number of hidden layers 2 Number of neurons in the first hidden layer 20 Number of neurons in the second hidden layer 9 Number of neurons in the output layer 3 Learning rate range 0 to 6 Momentum rate range 0 to 1 MSE for individual patterns 0.0005 MSE for the overall pattern 0.0005 The network was successfully trained and tested. Results obtained after training of the network are shown in the next section for a few conditions.

5. RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS 5.1 Summary Input/ output model of a sugar factory Boiler Plant has been developed using Feed Forward Neural Networks. This kind of model is expected to help in understanding the plant characteristics and efficiency parameters. 5.2 Training the Network As brought out in the earlier section the Neural Network selected had 15 inputs and 3 outputs, covering the common parameters. There are a total of 161 Data sets, out of this146 Nos. have been used for training and 15 Nos. have been used for testing. Each data is an average of four hours of variations. The network selected has 2 hidden layers of 20 and 9 nodes each. The training was carried out using the Back Propagation algorithm till the Mean Square Error of the Network in predicting the known outcomes was reduced to around 0.0005, which occurred in around 3000 iterations. This level is generally satisfactory for simple models as per the literature. Some of the results obtained from testing are shown through the Fig Nos. 5.1 and Fig. No. 5.2 These figures show the comparison of Super Heated Steam outputs and also the Super Heated Steam Pressure Outputs of the NN model with actual values. Figures also demarcate the results for both the training and testing phases. It can be seen that for most instances the predicted values are within the operating range and predict the correct direction of change. The N N model also predicts the values of steam pressure changes correctly at the time of sudden changes It may be appreciated that though Steam Temperature, Pressure and Flow rates have been modeled as independent parameters, they are thermodynamically related. As per conventions of Neural Network modeling it generally does not require a separate treatment. Results when compared to models available in literature e.g. Ozel [2] .show that the current effort is close to the results of the published performances. Such models have been used for control of boilers and also for optimization and emission control. The modeling techniques employed can thus be used in understanding and developing cogeneration applications. The model developed can be further improved by using data from a larger period of time with greater variations in the parameters. It may be noted that there may be some variability in bagasse properties itself which has not been taken in consideration.

CONCLUSIONS This work focuses on the study of modeling of a process plant (of a sugar factory) through its input and output parameters using a feed-forward neural network. The conditions and the environment for modeling were selected based on perceived utility. A process plant like the sugar factory boiler operates on a continuous basis while the neural network needs periodic inputs. It thus requires that time interval for sampling should be selected. After studying the data which was logged at hourly intervals a four hour averaged interval for observations was selected. It was observed that most changed inputs produce changed outputs in less than this time. The number of variables in the plant is rather large. To be able to focus on basic working of the boiler it was reduced to 15 inputs and 3 outputs. The neural network model was thus made with 15 input modes and 3 output parameters. Only two hidden layers were selected as is a common practice. The no. of nodes in the hidden layers were selected empirically as 20 and 9. A total of 161 data sets were collected. Out of these 146 were used for training he Neural Network Model and 15 were for testing the network. The Back Propagation algorithm was deployed for training using a set of codes available. The learning rate parameters and the momentum values were varied during the training and testing. The following conclusions were drawn from the studies:
1. Feed forward Neural Network can be successfully used for modeling a continuous process plant like a boiler, with 4 hours of averaging of the data.
2. The values of Steam Flow, Super Heated Steam Pressure and Super Heated Steam Temperature could be predicted with less than 3 percent, around one percent and less than one percent errors respectively.
3. Comparison of the results with literature shows that modeling results are comparable and the method can be used for optimization and control etc.
