Secrets Of Connecting Leadership And Learning With Humor...
Chapter three, What is Leadership? Or, He Ain t Heavy, He s (She s) my Leader, in the book, Secrets
of Connecting Leadership Learning with Humor written by Peter M. Jonas (2004), describes how
development of the brain is intertwined with one s ability to develop leadership and humorist traits.
Jonas (2004) proposes, ...leadership is a process of influencing others toward the accomplishment of a
shared purpose or value (p. 27). The author notes that as the brain grows and experiences different
situations throughout life, it separates and stores information useful for survival while disregarding the
rest. As the brain recognizes occurrences that happen over and over, the synapses make connections
that heighten leadership abilities by recognizing previous mistakes, and learns from them. It is also
noted that because humor is a universal language, it can be infused in leadership practices to help
remove social gaps attributed to hierarchal structures. Although a vast amount of research exists that
addresses what constitutes the best leadership ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most imperative to an organization s success is the achievement of each employee s goals as a part of
the whole. Clearly it is evidenced that transformational leadership is an effective means by which
leaders help others become more valuable and productive in their roles in the organization. Why do
some organizations excel at implementing productive leadership elements and others fail? Perhaps
they fail to recognize the value of one single solitary individual and their influence as part of the
whole, and this attitude should be changed. Certainly, the discussion regarding inherent leadership
traits that produce the greatest amount of influence in an organization will continue, especially as
more research is conducted regarding the

Energy Security in the Asia Pacific Region
ENERGY SECURITY IN THE ASIA PACIFIC REGION To meet China s fast rising energy demands,
Chinese leaders exerted great effort with a market oriented approach and a state centered approach.
The market oriented approach look for energy safety by better assimilation of national and
international markets ...state intervention would be restricted to the dispersal of data in a multilateral
context, the help of innovation, and, for few management of a strategic oil reserve which would be
applied in case of fleeting supply interruption. In contrast, the state centered approach is based upon
neo mercantilist a thought that relies on bilateral diplomatic contacts with oil producing countries to
strengthen energy security by the use of national resource and state owned enterprise investments in
overseas energy resources and firm control of exports and imports of energy products. Though market
oriented economic change has been the way of post Mao reforms, the market oriented approach has
not increased momentum in the energy division because the Chinese leadership has mull over China s
energy security tactically too significant to be left to market forces alone . Taking over offices in 2002,
President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao decided that securing unwavering supplies of petroleum
and added scare resources was not merely critical to maintained economic development, but also
essential to China s national security . Within 2003, Premier Wen Jiabao made official a seven small

The Music Industry Became Aware Of Napster After John...
In June of 1999 Shawn Fanning, John Fanning, and Sean Parker created an independent peer to peer
file sharing website called Napster, Named after John Fanning s high school nickname. A peer to peer
(P2P) service allows access to media files like movies, music, books and games by using a certain
program that connects to other computers on the same network, meaning that when someone
downloaded a file it was coming directly from another person s computer. The website was
specifically designed to transfer MP3 files with a search engine dedicated to retrieving MP3 files only,
and a chat service which allowed users to communicate with each other while using this system
(Tyson). At its prime, Napster was home to about 80 million users (Gowan). The issue with Napster
was that it wasn t properly licensed to distribute the files and it allowed its users unlimited free access
to other individual s intellectual property without their consent. The music industry became aware of
Napster when the heavy metal band, Metallica discovered that an unreleased version of one of their
songs was circling the internet. Metallica sued Napster, providing evidence that over 300 thousand
people had exchanged their work without the approval of the band or the record label, and that
Napster contributed to their infringements (Vaver). Napster s main defense against the lawsuit was the

Jonah And The Whale Essay
The story of Jonah is perhaps one of the most famous in scriptures. Even non Christians typically
know the story of Jonah and the Whale . However, there is much more to this story than can be taken
at face value. Reading this story within the context of the Old Testament reveals characteristics of
each setting that add more to the story. It is understandable why an Israelite would have avoided
Nineveh; Nineveh was such an undesirable place to the devout follower of God that even the possibly
dangerous and uncontrollable sea was more desirable. It is only when Jonah finds himself in the pit of
darkness that he prays for God s deliverance and carries out the mission God has called him to. Even
after God s grace is given to the people of Nineveh, Jonah runs once again to create his own shelter in
which God must save him once again and impart reason of His grace onto Jonah. ... Show more

Ninevah has a long history throughout scripture. It was first built by Nimrod, the mighty hunter before
the Lord, the great grandson of Noah through Noah s son Ham (Gn. 11 12). However, this introduction
to the city does not give a picture of what the city represented in the Ancient Near Eastern world. It is
not until Isaiah s prophesy in 2 Kings (19:36) that the character of Nineveh begins to take shape; for it
is Nineveh that Sennacherib flees to and calls his home after 185,000 of his men are struck dead by
the Lord. This may not appear to mean much, but the Assyrians were far from being a Godly city.
They worshipped other gods (2 Ki. 19:37), experts in siege warfare (2 Ki. 17:3 6, 18:13, 19:17), and
took Judah as a vassal city (2 Ki. 16:7 9, 18:14 16). If the Assyrians called Nineveh home, it was no
friend to the Israelites and would have likely struck fear in any Israelite called to enter the

Compare And Contrast Qin And Han Dynasty
After the Warring States Period, there were two major dynasties; the Qin and the Han. The Qin
dynasty ruled first and created many policies that were adopted and abandoned by the second rulers,
the Han dynasty.
One policy that was implemented from the Qin, by the Han was standardization. Shi Huangdi, the
ruler during the Qin dynasty, implemented the idea of standardization and executed his plans for
standardization in an orderly fashion. Huangdi standardized the following throughout China; the
Chinese language, the weights and measurements used, the currency of China, and the axes on
transportation or motor vehicles. The Han dynasty adopted this policy because the standards were the

IN the Qin dynasty, Shi Huangdi created a centralized government since the rulers before, the Zhou
dynasty, had been rebelled against because their government structure was a mess. For example, the
Zhou did not have a good connection with their outer cities and the Zhou government leaders did not
know what was going on in their society. Shi Huangdi created provinces, which was divided into
counties, and there were heads of the provinces who reported to the emperor about what was going on
within their province. In the counties there was a head too. The head of the county reported to the head
of the province. The Han adopted this because it created a strong government and worked for the Qin
dynasty. Both the Qin and Han did not want to be overthrown like the Zhou dynasty was. A last policy
that was adopted by the Han was that of, expanding the territory. Shi Huangdi performed the act of
expanding territory and pushed his borders out to the Yellow/Huang River. Shi Huangdi grew his
territory because he had a growing population with overcrowded cities. The Han dynasty decided to
adopted this policy because the Qin s land was spacious and this way they were able grow more fruits,
veggies, and make more silk for

The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer
In his novel The Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer presents the corruption of the Catholic Church
through several of his characters. Chaucer lived in a time of controversial indulgences, a way to pay
off sins. Chaucer s tales show his opposition to these sinful behaviors that he believed were common
among the clergy. In order to protest against sinful behavior and religious corruption, Chaucer uses
characters such as the pardoner, the friar, the summoner, and the prioress to show the lack of morality
and faith among the clergy, and presents the parson as an example of how to correct corruption of the
Catholic Church. Chaucer demonstrates corruption of the clergy through the pardoner who is a sinner
since he deceives the innocent through greed, which at the time was a mortal sin. Chaucer describes
the pardoner as having a bunch of relics in his pouch such as a croys of latoun, full of stones (GP 699).
However, Chaucer retorts, But with thise relikes, whan that he fond A povre person dwellynge upon
lond, Upon a day he gat hym moore moneye
Than that the person gat in monthes tweye (GP 701 704).
Here, Chaucer calls the pardoner a liar who uses false relics to collect money from people he meets
who are trying to repent of their sins. The pardoner is even more appalling because he preaches
against greed, yet he is guilty of that very sin when he tricks the innocent into giving him large
amounts of money by using these false relics. Chaucer characterizes the pardoner as

Devonian Rocks
Melbourne has a bedrock of Middle Paleozoic age which is included within the Devonian and Silurian
periods (354 441 million years prior). These rocks are overlain in wide zones which also include much
more youthful rocks, and were generally part of the Tertiary and Quaternary ages (2 65 mya). Rocks
of Early Silurian (441 mya) were discovered to be the most established within the bedrock. Particular
in the outcrops located in the north east around Warrandyte (Anderson Creek Formation), and on the
west side of Melbourne more specifically the Maribyrnong Valley around Keilor (Springfield
Formation). Fossils found within these developments are very unique. Rocks located east of Keilor
and south of Warrandyte were discovered to be more youthful, with different ages from Late Silurian
(418 mya) in the Melbourne Formation (city region) to Early Devonian (384 mya) at the Humevale
Formation (Lilydale).
These Paleozoic rocks are steeply plunging sandstones and siltstones, with a little event of limestone
at Lilydale the Early Devonian Lilydale Limestone. The Silurian rocks were stored in profound water,
while the Devonian rocks, which are exceptionally fossiliferous, appear to have been stored in
shallower water. These Silurian and Devonian rocks were folded into a progression of anticlines ...

Police Corruption In The Police
Aung San Suu Kyi wrote, It is not power that corrupts but fear. Fear of losing power corrupts those
who wield it and fear of the scourge of power corrupts those who are subject to it. If it can be said that
power inevitably corrupts, there is no reason to presume that police officers as individuals are any less
fallible than other members of society. There is a natural human inclination for power that is
maximized today by the materialistic society we live in that fuels greed and seduces those with
authority into reaping the personal and financial benefits of evading the law. The art of corruption has
existed in American society since the early days of policing to modern day. Corruption applied to a
police force entails the robbing of drug dealers, redirecting of contraband into the personal accounts of
officers, perjuring one s self to protect a corrupt officer, falsifying police reports, planting drugs to
frame citizens, and a host of other misconduct that violates the oath of protecting the people. By
approaching the issue of police misconduct with a focus on reformation internally and externally,
police departments can take innovative steps from there to first, ensure corruptive deeds cease to occur
initially and second, by reducing and eliminating it once it exists.
If a police officer misuses his/her authority while acting officially to fulfill his/her personal needs or
wants, that is corruption in policing. These two elements make up the crux of the corruption that

Cosmopolit Not The Drink
Cosmopolitan... Not the Drink! The word cosmopolitanism, derived from Greek, means that humans
are part of a global civilization. Cosmos signifies the earth, and polis means city or state. The
Enlightenment philosophers Emmanuel Kant and Baron de Montesquieu interpreted the idea slightly
differently but fundamentally agreed that it entails the communication and exchange of varied
cultures, especially through commerce. Cosmopolitism is not to be confused with legal pluralism,
discussed by Lauren Benton and Lisa Ford, which is the continuation of numerous, somewhat
independent legal structures inside one region existing simultaneously. Though they seem similar at
first glance, legal pluralism has been proven to be a failure, while ... Show more content on

These two drastically different societal groups are still accountable to the same rules. Anthony Anghie,
a professor at the University of Utah, wrote in his book, Imperialism, Sovereignty and the Making of
International Law, the universal system of divine law administered by the Pope is replaced by the
universal natural law system of jus gentium whose rules may be ascertained by the use of reason
(Anghie, 325). Reason is a human characteristic, so everyone, from natives of South America to
religious Spanish Catholics can understand the universal laws. Because all people use their reason to
determine universal laws, all cultures share certain values. Grotius, a believer in universal law, argued
that God, wished human friendships to be engendered by mutual needs and resources (Grotius, 1). The
needs of humanity cannot be met in just one geographical location, so global trading is required. The
interaction of these different cultures, by means of commerce, results in the creation of the
cosmopolitan. One society may be able to harvest a certain product better than another, so mutual
respect and principles for all of humanity are required. Without it, humanity will not have access to all
of the creations of the world, and economic activity and trade would be substantially diminished. Kant
wrote in his work, Perpetual Peace: A Philosophical Sketch, that he believed peace was achieved
through commerce. Commerce globalizes and interconnects

Gods And Mortals In Homer s The Odyssey
What is the real difference between gods and mortals? The roles and relationships between mortals
and immortals is a constant variable in Greek mythology and in Homer s epic poem The Odyssey. In
The Odyssey gods and mortals have complex and mostly one sided relationships, for example, Athena
is a kind of mother figure and protector of Odysseus, but abandons him for almost 10 years. Through
out The Odyssey the gods frequently enact their extreme punishment and reward system. Odysseus is
helped by Athena enormously in the last leg of his journey home to Ithaca, he has been punished for
years by Poseidon for blinding his son, arguably undeserving punishment but punishment nonetheless.
Poseidon s vendetta against Odysseus displays ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hermes symbolizes the more neutral Olympians, like Zeus. Hermes is the messenger god, he spends
most of his time in The Odyssey delivering things such as messages and souls. Hermes once plays
kind of a savior to Odysseus by giving him an herb that would make Circe be powerless to bewitch
you, even so this magic herb I give will fight her spells. (X.320 1). Hermes Then doesn t appear in the
epic until after all the suitors are killed and he begins leading down the ghosts of the suitors
(XXIV.108) to Hades. Hermes is a good example of how a god can have minimal interaction with
mortals and still be important, without him, Odysseus wouldn t have made it home. Hermes is the
most level headed god in The Odyssey. He is neither chaotic good like Athena or lawful evil like
Poseidon, but a good neutral that doesn t do much but still helps

Hiring A Human Resource Department For A School District
The Objective of this document is to outline a hiring procedures manual that a Human Resource
Department for a school district might use to hiring an employee. Hiring is arguably the most
important function of the HR Department and a set of procedures should be in place to make the steps
move in an efficient manner. The HR Department wears many hats and is most cases responsible for
many areas: budget controlling, conflict resolution, training, employee satisfaction, cost saving
measures, strategic planning, and of course the big one...the hiring of the right individuals. The hiring
process needs to be an organized and well thought out set of procedures from identifying who will be
needed to the hiring and training of that individual. There are many steps, some of which have legal
ramifications, so the procedures need to be followed and reviewed to ensure that the procedures are
not only capturing the best candidates but the procedures comply with all of the laws. A high level
view of the HR Department s job includes: identifying the open position, develop (or already have a
developed job description) that includes the duties of that position, collecting applications, screening
applications, interviewing applicants, making the decisions on who will get an offer, that actual hiring
of that individual, and the training process. This process is outlined in the attached HR procedures
document. This document will outline seven areas: 1. Recruitment procedures 2.

Geochemical Tracers Essay
4.2 Geochemical tracers
Due to recent advances in both quick analytical techniques for large numbers of samples and
numerical source apportioning models that allow a more detailed and quantitative understanding of the
uncertainty associated with estimated results, the geochemical tracers are extensively used in recent
sediment fingerprinting studies (Franz et al. 2013; Grimes et al. 2007). Such as rare earth elements
(REE; e.g., La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb and Lu), major elements (e.g., Fe, K,
Na, Al, Ca and Mg) and trace elements (e.g., As, Ba, Co, Cr, Cs, Hf, Sc, Ta, Ti, Th and Zr), in both
source soil and sediment samples, have been used in sediment fingerprinting studies (Horowitz et al.
2012; Hughes et al. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Natural geogenic REE signatures sometimes may be a potential proxy for identifying lacustrine
sediment sources and soil erosion rates (Wen et al. 2014). Though REEs has many advantages, owning
its relatively high cost, REEs have not been extensively used.
There are three approaches that can account for potential differences in sediment geochemistry
relating to particle size and mineralogy. One commonly used way of normalization is to use measured
bulk concentrations in the total sediment sample to account for differences in sediment geochemistry.
The diluting effects of non reactive constitutes (e.g., coarse sediment, quartz and feldspar grains) can
be removed. The second way of normalization is to divide the concentration of the potential tracer by
the concentration of the conservative element (e.g., Al, Ti and Li). The third method is to incorporate a
correction factor into the mixing model (Collins et al. 1998). Moreover, the geochemical tracer
method can also be applied to contemporary and historic sedimentary deposits for reconstructing
temporal changes in sediment provenance at the catchment scale (Thevenon et al. 2013).
4.3 Radionuclides
Atmospheric fallout radionuclides(FRN), such as 7Be, 10Be, 137Cs, 210Pb, 239Pu and 240Pu,
effectively tag surface sediments and the concentration declines markedly with depth and are
preferentially absorbed to clay minerals and organic matter due to their high specific surface area
which renders them chemically

Using Critical Thinking Skills For A Post College World
Trigger warning: This may cause you to change your previously held beliefs! It s a privilege to learn
about racism instead of experiencing it your whole life. If you do not have to think about it, it s a
privilege. If you did not want to read this paper out of fear because of the trigger warning, many
universities have started allowing students to do this with many of their assignments. Universities
were created to help foster the freedom of the human mind, but many have started to focus attention to
micro aggressions and the use of trigger warnings, this is causing students to be unprepared for the
post college world because they view certain topics as taboo, hold on to their beliefs, and focus on
punishment rather than education. Students will encounter different views and ideas in a post college
world requiring them to use critical thinking skills they polish in college. Students come to college
with many different backgrounds hoping to gain many new experiences to help them be successful in
the world. In the elementary field, there are many different skills teachers hoping to teach students, so
they are prepared for the post academic world; they are called the 21st century skills. A few of them
are collaboration, cultural education as well as problem solving. Collaboration is a skill that could help
the student s be successful in any career they strive for, but the skill would also help them interact with

Hester Prynne In D. H. Lawrence s On The Scarlet Letter
In his essay On the Scarlet Letter, D.H. Lawrence criticizes society s perception of Hester Prynne.
Hester is the protagonist in Nathaniel Hawthorne s novel The Scarlet Letter, and Lawrence regards her
relationship with Arthur Dimmesdale as morally inacceptable. Lawrence also condemns those who try
to condone her sinful behavior. In order to create an effective criticism of Hester Prynne s portrayal,
D. H. Lawrence uses powerful syntax, an ironic and critical tone, and insightful allusions. D. H.

Lawrence uses many insightful allusions, allowing readers to make connections and better
comprehend his argument. Not all readers can immediately understand Lawrence s criticism of Hester
because he uses many unfamiliar arguments. However, by tying in references to books, mythology,
and religion, Lawrence makes his meaning more clear, as readers may be familiar with the cultural
aspects he refers to. The connections the readers make allow Lawrence to better persuade them that
Hester is unworthy of the praise she receives. First, he refers to James Fenimore Cooper s The
Deerslayer, a book about a frontiersman whom Lawrence compares Hester s lover, Dimmesdale, to.
He writes, Deerslayer refused to be seduced by Judith Hutter. At least the Sodom apple of sin didn t
fetch him. Although Lawrence s main criticism is of Hester Prynne, he also expresses disapproval of
Dimmesdale. Lawrence effectively uses Deerslayer to prove that Dimmesdale actively chooses to be
seduced by Hester. He establishes a stark contrast between Dimmesdale and Deerslayer, showing that
Dimmesdale could have turned down Hester but chose not to. By doing so, Lawrence also emphasizes
the sin Hester committed in seducing Dimmesdale. Later, Lawrence references a more commonly
known character, the Greek mythological hero Hercules. He claims that when Hester seduced
Dimmesdale, Dimmesdale s response was along the lines of seduce me, Mrs. Hercules. While
Hercules is remembered for his immense

Night by Elie Wiesel and Hiroshima by John Hersey
Often, we find ourselves facing dramatic and even traumatic events in our lives that force us to re
think and redefine ourselves. These extraordinary circumstances test the human limits and push us into
making life altering decisions. It is at times like these that the humanity in us, our personalities, either
fall apart leaving us nothing but a hollow shell, or transforms into a stronger, evolved form gleaming
with compassion and self sacrifice. Night written by Elie Wiesel and Hiroshima written by John
Hersey portray how every day life might un expectantly change, how frail life really is, and how these
unexpected changes test what is inside us. Both books tell the tale of how lives of civilians were
interrupted by the events of World War II, what tragedies these people had to undergo, and how the
horrific circumstances of war were sometimes able to bring out the best in ordinary people.
In the book Hiroshima the author illustrates this city s most tragic point in history as well as its
residence s lives before, during, and after the horrific drop of the atomic bomb. The pain of over one
hundred thousand lives were compressed and expressed through six different stories told by this
reporter. The extreme range of direction their lives take can be seen by the contrasting examples
between Miss Toshiko Sasaki and Dr. Masakazu Fuji. Toshiko Sasaki began as a clerk before the
bombing happened; she was deeply into her family and even had a fiancé. On August 6th of 1945 the

Angela s Ashes By Frank Mccourt
When I look back at my childhood I wonder how I survived at all. It was, of course, a miserable
childhood: the happy childhood is hardly worth your while. Worse than the ordinary miserable
childhood is the miserable Irish childhood, and worse yet is the miserable Irish Catholic childhood
(McCourt 11). These now famous words are some of the opening lines of Frank McCourt s critically
acclaimed memoir Angela s Ashes. Through his memoirs, McCourt depicted his journey from a
poverty ridden emigrant to a widely recognized literally star. McCourt s life was that of a true
American success story that captured the hearts of many (Gèbler). Frank McCourt lived a life that
many Irish emigres to the U.S. have dreamed of, but few have managed to achieve (Gèbler). While his

Description Of Pseudoseizures Versus True Seizures

In the present time, the usage of 24 hour EEG video monitoring have proved many past physicians
incorrect about their distinction between true and false seizures. EEG/video of pseudoseizures has
revealed that urination, injury, and drug responsiveness may be part of nonepileptic episodes as well
as epileptic episodes. As a result, EEG/video has become the gold standard for discriminating between
epileptic and nonepileptic attack (Bergen, 154 155). Both clinical observation and EEG/video have
reveal that long durations of start stop pattern, direct actions, and situational triggers are more
common in pseudoseizures than in true seizures (Bergen, 154 155). In addition true tonic clonic
seizures with combination of postictal oxygen debt, accumulation of saliva, and reduce level of
consciousness are often followed by deep respirations and snoring or stertorous respiratory patterns,
however, pseudoseizures lack these characteristics (Bergen, 154 155). The eyes remained open in
every tonic clonic and hypermotor seizures, but were closed in almost 90 percent of pseudoseizures
(Bergen, 154 155). The result have shown that it is important to be able to differentiate between
pseudoseizure and true seizure, but it is also crucial that physicians be able to find the underlying
cause of the seizure as well.

Tennis Ball Test Lab Report
Tennis Ball Test
SCIENCE FAIR PROJECT

By
Jimmetrius Winters
REVIEW OF LITERATURE:
For this experiment we researched the dimension of the tennis ball and basketball. The dimension of
the tennis ball is 2.700 inches. The dimension of the basketball is 29.5 inches.
A reason that a tennis ball is explained best by Tara Thackery. The motion of energy defines kinetic
energy. According to Exploratorium, when you throw a tennis ball and it lands on the floor, it gains

Carry A. Nation And The Progressive Era
From the 1890s to the 1920s, many social and economic reform movements were taking place within
American society, and this time period became known as the Progressive Era. People advocated for
women s suffrage, temperance, rights for African Americans, better working conditions in factories,
and much more. One prominent figure from this time period is Carry A. Nation, a temperance activist.
Nation would pray, sing hymns, throw bricks, and attack bars with hatchets. Her action resulted in her
being jailed, written about, and led to her writing her own magazine. Carry A. Nation s tactics of
praying, singing hymns, and violent attacks were effective in the banning of alcohol, with the 18th
Amendment, due to the publicity and fame she received. Carry A. Nation, originally Carrie A. Nation,
did not always have a tendency for violence and a strong aversion from alcohol. However, Nation s
first husband, Charles Gloyd, had a severe drinking problem. Nation became pregnant, and it became
evident to her that Gloyd would not be able to support her and her child. Gloyd soon died because of
his drinking issue. This later led to Nation s strong dislike from alcohol because her husband, whom
she loved, died because of alcohol. Nation remarried David Nation, a preacher and lawyer, and during
this marriage, Nation became very religious. Also, Nation would try to help inmates in prison. This
initially led to her belief that alcohol was bad since Nation believed alcohol caused all the

Hemp Plant Benefits
Imagine a miracle plant with the ability to cure cancer, feed communities, power cars, and build
homes. Now imagine that plant being illegal. This is the case with the hemp plant. A subtype of
Cannabis Sativa, hemp was at one point the major cash crop of America where it was used in sails,
rope, clothing, paper and other items. (Schneider). Despite the fact that hemp contains very minute
traces of THC, the chemical found in marijuana that induces psychoactive effects, it is oftentimes
confused with marijuana, another subtype of Cannabis Sativa. Some hemp supporters chalk up the ban
on hemp to the fact that many policymakers believe that by legalizing hemp they are legalizing
marijuana, which is not true. (Yonovka). The federal ban on hemp should be removed because it is an
incredible food source, can be used to replace non renewable resources, and has unparalleled medical
uses. Rich in healthy fats, protein, and minerals , hemp seeds are an inarguable super food (Mercola).

Abu Ghraib and Insaniyat
Article by: Arshin Adib Moghaddam
We have met the enemy, and he is us
Iraq is a different world than where we live in North America. Canadian values and culture of North
America are vastly different from those of the Middle Eastern country that is the subject of an article
by Arshin Adib Moghaddam titled Abu Gharib and Insaniyat. Following the terrorist attacks in New
York in 2001 the differences between these two cultures seemed immense. The stories and images that
were beamed into our houses by television and other media were unreal to our eyes. From our
perspective we feel fortunate to live in a different place and wonder how the world got to a point

They saw every Iraqi, Pakistani, Iranian or Saudi as a terrorist and a threat to their country. All were
subject to a negative judgement without cause or trial. With the benefit of a passage of time we have
learned that these feelings were misdirected and wrong. It was as though certain people, those of a
different race and nationally, were robbed of their human rights and cast in the role of criminals solely
because of their culture and the acts of groups they likely did not know. In the calm aftermath and a
chance to reflect on this behaviour some American officials admitted that Abu Ghraib was the
functional equivalent of the 9/11 attack, only committed this time by the United States (Greenberg
2005: 98).
Prior to 9/11there had been various terrorist attacks on Americans around the world and on American
soil. However the events of September 11 intensely changed the United States Government s approach
towards terrorism. After September 11, the Bush Administration changed the previous American
approach, which had primarily employed the combined tools of diplomatic cooperation, economic
sanctions, and internationally coordinated law enforcement measures (Lee 2007: 137). Instead, the
President declared in the aftermath of September 11 that the United States was engaged in a war on
terrorism. In this war all terrorists who plotted against the United States and those who supported them

Men of high social classes were expected to live honourable lives [Dr. Jekyll]. They live in smart

fortunate people of the Victorian era. However, a few minutes walk from the rich west end laid a

aspects of the Victorian society within its plot. Reputation and background more than financial status

Is the convenience of others worth the life of a single innocent? The answer of this question should
spark such a reaction that it would make it impossible to remain neutral. And as such the world should
ask the land that claims to be home of the brave; being the United States of America, what it s stance
is on gun control. Because the land of opportunity can no longer say yes to unrestricted gun sales and
no the safety of its innocents; or should only the gun owners dictate the laws in the land of
opportunity. America needs to enforce gun restrictions to save the lives of innocent people. To long
has it allowed its own civilians to dictate the worth of the life of an innocent. Should the general
consensus be to hold life to the highest value? Is it not unfathomable to allow convenience to trump
safety? Sometimes the only unbiased facts that can be stated are numbers, and here is some. Twelve,
six, twenty, and six; sure that those numbers are not significant individually but further explanation the
significance will deepen the meaning of each of numbers of these Massacres that occurred from July

Plot Structures In A Sound Of Thunder By Aldous Hudbury
Then the hero defeated the evil doer and saved the princess, winning her love with his heroism!
Cliches like this are what society is starting to grow bored with. Many stories go with the same classic
image of the portrayals of typical character roles. Plot structures are becoming more and more
transparent with no real substance to the character s development or anything substantial to the plot.
However, some novelists are starting to branch off from that stereotypical structure into something
that differentiates themselves. Ray Bradbury, known as one the best, if not the best, science fiction
writers of our time wrote one particular short story, A Sound of
Thunder. This piece is about a common science fiction topic, time travel. However, instead of
glorifying the wonders of time travel and the possibilities of what could be considered an idealistic
dream machine, Bradbury shows the consequences of dabbling with space and time.
Exploring themes of death, fear, and drastic change, Bradbury was no longer part of the cliche bubble
of science fiction. Another piece that greatly differentiated itself from other works of similar topics
was Aldous Huxley s piece Brave New World. This piece is satire of the societal problems of the time
it was written, during the Great Depression. The piece s protagonist was by no means, the typical
knight in shining armor. He had in depth character development that led to corruption instead of
salvation contrary to the common day portrayal of

Congenital adrenal hyperplasia is a well known autosomal recessive disorder and the vast majority,
approximately 95%, of cases are due to a deficiency of 21 alpha hydroxylase. The other common type
of CAH is caused by a deficiency of 11 beta hydroxylase. In both types of the disorder, the adrenal
gland is unable to produce sufficient amounts of cortisol and aldosterone. CAH is estimated to
manifest in 1 of every 15,000 live births. In the United States, the prevalence of the disorder is lower
in African American children in comparison to Caucasians. Moreover, the decreased synthesis of
cortisol results in diminished negative feedback of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ATCH) and over

Adversity In Night By Elie Wiesel
Have you ever experienced adversity in losing everything you once believed in? In the book Night,
Eliezer is a young Jewish boy who suffers through the hardships of religious discrimination in the
concentration camps during the holocaust. The theme I plan to talk about is Eliezer s loss of faith
throughout the war and his journey through the horrors of Auschwitz, Buna, Gleiwitz, and
Buchenwald. Religion is a stronghold for most people during times of struggle; the story begins with
Eliezer believing God was the most important thing in his life, to struggling with the thought of God
letting all the suffering happen in Germany. The life of Eliezer Wiesel revolved around family,
religion, and love. I believe his loss of faith impacted his identity, family, and morality throughout the
narrative. During the day I studied the Talmud, and at night I ran to the synagogue to weep over the
destruction of the Temple (Wiesel, 1) This quote showed how sincerely involved he was religiously;
weeping at the destruction of the Temple shows a clear emotional connection to his faith. As the story

Use Of Small Volume Fluids On Scale Of The Field Of...
ABSTRACT
Microfluidics biochips are revolutionary devices in the field of clinical diagnostics, DNA analysis and
molecular biology. Biochips involve various fields of science and engineering i.e., physics, chemistry,
biochemistry, nanotechnology, fabrication technology and computer science. It uses small volume
fluids on scale of micro to nano liter for automatically carrying out the reactions needed for some
biochemical assays. In this report I have covered basic overview of biochips, kinds of biochips, areas
of research, existing problems and finally presented work done till now in area of sample preparation
specifically dilution and mixing Algorithms for Digital Microfluidics Biochips.
INTRODUCTION
Microfluidics biochips are emerging devices for analysis of biological assay, and have its potential
application in the field of healthcare because of its point of care diagnostic capability. These chips are
of very small size typically of few centimeters [4]. These chips also have its application in Biological
computing it can be used as sample preparation primitive which reduces the operations time. DNA
hybridization can be reduced to 4min from 24hrs [2] by using it. Due to its small size and low cost it
feasible to use in place of bulky convention diagnosis devices.
These biochips also used to monitor toxicity of air and water. It has many advantages such as micro
liter fluids amount required for assay operation, high speed analysis, less cost in

Abutment Teeth
Proper selection of abutment teeth is an important component of removable partial dentures (RPDs)
design and should account for the need of abutment teeth to withstand forces (vertical, horizontal and
torque) normally directed towards the missing teeth as well as the abutment teeth itself. This essay
will focus on the periodontal considerations when selecting abutment teeth for the RPD.
Chronic periodontitis is a slowly progressive inflammatory disease that results in the destruction of
periodontium (Armitage and Cullinan, 2010, Shaddox and Walker, 2010). It is characterized by
clinical attachment greater than or equal to 5mm and radiographic evidence of alveolar bone loss

Due to the higher than usual occlusal forces transmitted to the abutment through the prosthesis,
clinician must evaluate the abutment teeth carefully .Several studies have reported unfavorable
outcomes of abutment teeth compared to that of non abutment teeth, with the survival rate of abutment
teeth reported to be significantly lower than non abutment teeth (Tada et al., 2013, Wagner and Kern,
2000). A study following a group patients for 5 years found that of the total abutment teeth lost, 42%
were due to periodontal disease (Tada et al., 2013). Another study reported tooth loss of 18.8%
attributable to periodontal complications (Cabanilla et al., 2008). It is postulated that the horizontal
and lateral stress transmitted to the abutment teeth may lead to breakdown of periodontium and
increase tooth mobility (Jorge et al., 2006). While there may be disparities in the findings, both studies
have shown the possible periodontal complications related to RPDs. It has been shown that RPDs
enhance plaque formation and retention especially on tooth surface in direct contact with denture
thereby increasing the risk of adverse periodontal reactions (Petridis and Hempton, 2000). This
quantitative change in dental biofilm has been shown to be associated with an increased PD and

Kramer Vs Framer Essay
Upon reviewing the film Kramer VS. Kramer, I will provide a brief summary and cover Semantic
interference, Psychological interferences, and Selective listening.
The movie Framer VS. Framer is about a couple going through a divorce affecting their son named
Billy. The mother Joanna Kramer leaves her husband and son for her well being. Ted Kramer is then
forced to raise his son with a little help from another friend who is also a single parent named
Margaret. Ted later has to cope with obstacles, but maintains a stronger relationship with his son.
First let s look at Semantic interference. The words you choose (Understanding Human
Communication). Throughout the movie Ted had to pick his words wisely whenever Billy would ask a
question about his mother. This is because even though Joanna and Ted were split up she was still
Billy s mother. Another example of Semantic interferences in the movie Kramer VS. Kramer was
when Joanna wanted her son back, Ted and Joanna had to go to court which means they had to pick
there words wisely weather if they were appropriate for parenting Billy. Another example is when Ted

example executive takes all government functions like enacting the law, interpreting the law, provides
people s welfare, determines the rights of the people.
In our opinion, we do not wish to abandon the doctrine of separation of power but however, this
notion shall follow the Montesquieu approach as he provides for a separation of power that aims at
having separate institutions doing separate function by separate personnel and having the ... Show

Thus all legislative power is vested into congress, the executive power is in president, and the
judiciary power vested in the supreme court. Many of the other constitution around the world offers
some degree of separation of powers.
It controls administrative actions
Separation of power promotes efficiency in the administration. Through separation of powers, each
power of the government has to be assigned with their own duties, judiciary, also legislature, and these
duties should not be interfered. To say to control administrative action it means to control executive

Reaction Paper On Ecocriticism
The term ecocriticism was coined in 1978 by William Rueckert in his essay Literature and Ecology:
An Experiment in Ecocriticism. Interest in the study of nature writing and reading literature with a
focus on green issues grew through the 1980s, and by the early 1990s, ecocriticism had emerged as a
recognizable discipline within literature departments of American universities. It is highly relevant
today when man s life on earth is threatened by three major factors : Global warming; Ozone
Depletion; Nuclear threat. It is important now that man focuses his attention on the marvellous
creations of God, especially the three cycles Water cycle, Carbon oxygen cycle, Nitrogen cycle. In this
regard, the scientific accuracy of the Bible is amazing. The Bible revealed astonishing details
regarding earth s climate system, centuries before non Biblical writings did. The Bible books genesis,
Job, Isaiah, Ecclesiastes, Amos reveal details of the three cycles of nature. In the 11th century B.C.E.,
King Solomon of Israel wrote ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Reflection In Computer Science And Engineering
Stuck in between majors at the beginning of the quarter, and desperately needing another credit to
compete my schedule, I stumbled upon this seminar and added it to my already stem filled schedule.
Hoping to gain value on what a potential major could be for me, I went to the first week of class and
was immediately impacted by the presenters for the College of the Environment. I wish to reflect back
on this presentation as well as Professor Richard Ladner s presentation in Computer Science
engineering and Professor Wendy Thomas s presentation in bioengineering. The first week of class
immediately brought with it an important presentation to me on the topic of Diversity in stem. As an
existing pre engineering student at the time of the presentation I had a very narrow misconception as
to what the field of engineering entails and the majors that are available within in. During the
presentation, I learned that the College of the Environment actually contained its own form of
engineering, environmental engineering, that is recognized as the only engineering major outside the
School of Engineering here at the University of Washington. This was crucial to me because it
immediately broadened my horizon, I have always had an interest in the environment and this allowed
me to research a new potential major that could intertwine my interest in science with my background
in the outdoors. The second presentation that affected me was the presentation by Wendy Thomas, and

Essay on Community Profile
Introduction
The locality I have based my community profile on is Ardoyne. I feel that Ardoyne is familiar enough
for me to carry out my research as I have lived here all my life. Although my project is based in
Belfast city centre, we work with many groups and young people from the Ardoyne area. this would
prove beneficial to myself as I would sometimes have already developed a relationship with the young
people through community life.
I will firstly explore the community I have chosen by speaking to local people, using photographs, and
recordings of my observations. In doing so I intend to create a picture and overall feeling of the
community as well as the people who live here. This data will be accompanied by my own comments
in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For a community that witnesses a lot of conflict during each year Ardoyne is full of people who love
to chat and help out whatever why they can. The older generation in particular take pride in their what
s mine is yours attitude. While taking this picture an old lady quietly asked me if I was a tourist. I
replied laughing telling her no. she went on to tell me that she walked her granddaughter to school
through the protesters each morning while it lasted. In that time she had to endure spitting and urine
filled balloons being hurled at her by the protesters. She also talked about the day a pipe bomb was
thrown at the parents and children of the school. She said she wouldn t wish it on anyone as she
slowly walked off. I couldn t help thinking what a bizarre experience just chatting with the old lady,
who was completely open to sharing her experience with me.
Improving a specific aspect of community life
The aspect of community life I have chosen to explore is the drinking culture within Ardoyne. In the
small area that is Ardoyne there are eight pubs, five of which being night clubs. I feel that this
environment is contributing to the many issues facing the community of Ardoyne.
There were a total of 547 offences

  • 2. Secrets Of Connecting Leadership And Learning With Humor... Chapter three, What is Leadership? Or, He Ain t Heavy, He s (She s) my Leader, in the book, Secrets of Connecting Leadership Learning with Humor written by Peter M. Jonas (2004), describes how development of the brain is intertwined with one s ability to develop leadership and humorist traits. Jonas (2004) proposes, ...leadership is a process of influencing others toward the accomplishment of a shared purpose or value (p. 27). The author notes that as the brain grows and experiences different situations throughout life, it separates and stores information useful for survival while disregarding the rest. As the brain recognizes occurrences that happen over and over, the synapses make connections that heighten leadership abilities by recognizing previous mistakes, and learns from them. It is also noted that because humor is a universal language, it can be infused in leadership practices to help remove social gaps attributed to hierarchal structures. Although a vast amount of research exists that addresses what constitutes the best leadership ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most imperative to an organization s success is the achievement of each employee s goals as a part of the whole. Clearly it is evidenced that transformational leadership is an effective means by which leaders help others become more valuable and productive in their roles in the organization. Why do some organizations excel at implementing productive leadership elements and others fail? Perhaps they fail to recognize the value of one single solitary individual and their influence as part of the whole, and this attitude should be changed. Certainly, the discussion regarding inherent leadership traits that produce the greatest amount of influence in an organization will continue, especially as more research is conducted regarding the ... Energy Security in the Asia Pacific Region ENERGY SECURITY IN THE ASIA PACIFIC REGION To meet China s fast rising energy demands, Chinese leaders exerted great effort with a market oriented approach and a state centered approach. The market oriented approach look for energy safety by better assimilation of national and international markets ...state intervention would be restricted to the dispersal of data in a multilateral context, the help of innovation, and, for few management of a strategic oil reserve which would be applied in case of fleeting supply interruption. In contrast, the state centered approach is based upon neo mercantilist a thought that relies on bilateral diplomatic contacts with oil producing countries to strengthen energy security by the use of national resource and state owned enterprise investments in overseas energy resources and firm control of exports and imports of energy products. Though market oriented economic change has been the way of post Mao reforms, the market oriented approach has not increased momentum in the energy division because the Chinese leadership has mull over China s energy security tactically too significant to be left to market forces alone . • 4. The Music Industry Became Aware Of Napster After John... In June of 1999 Shawn Fanning, John Fanning, and Sean Parker created an independent peer to peer file sharing website called Napster, Named after John Fanning s high school nickname. A peer to peer (P2P) service allows access to media files like movies, music, books and games by using a certain program that connects to other computers on the same network, meaning that when someone downloaded a file it was coming directly from another person s computer. The website was specifically designed to transfer MP3 files with a search engine dedicated to retrieving MP3 files only, and a chat service which allowed users to communicate with each other while using this system (Tyson). At its prime, Napster was home to about 80 million users (Gowan). The issue with Napster was that it wasn t properly licensed to distribute the files and it allowed its users unlimited free access to other individual s intellectual property without their consent. The music industry became aware of Napster when the heavy metal band, Metallica discovered that an unreleased version of one of their songs was circling the internet. Metallica sued Napster, providing evidence that over 300 thousand people had exchanged their work without the approval of the band or the record label, and that Napster contributed to their infringements (Vaver). Napster s main defense against the lawsuit was the Audio Home Recording Act of 1992. What this law does is allow anyone who has legally purchased a CD or cassette the ... • 5. Jonah And The Whale Essay The story of Jonah is perhaps one of the most famous in scriptures. Even non Christians typically know the story of Jonah and the Whale . However, there is much more to this story than can be taken at face value. Reading this story within the context of the Old Testament reveals characteristics of each setting that add more to the story. It is understandable why an Israelite would have avoided Nineveh; Nineveh was such an undesirable place to the devout follower of God that even the possibly dangerous and uncontrollable sea was more desirable. It is only when Jonah finds himself in the pit of darkness that he prays for God s deliverance and carries out the mission God has called him to. Even after God s grace is given to the people of Nineveh, Jonah runs once again to create his own shelter in which God must save him once again and impart reason of His grace onto Jonah. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ninevah has a long history throughout scripture. It was first built by Nimrod, the mighty hunter before the Lord, the great grandson of Noah through Noah s son Ham (Gn. 11 12). However, this introduction to the city does not give a picture of what the city represented in the Ancient Near Eastern world. It is not until Isaiah s prophesy in 2 Kings (19:36) that the character of Nineveh begins to take shape; for it is Nineveh that Sennacherib flees to and calls his home after 185,000 of his men are struck dead by the Lord. This may not appear to mean much, but the Assyrians were far from being a Godly city. They worshipped other gods (2 Ki. 19:37), experts in siege warfare (2 Ki. 17:3 6, 18:13, 19:17), and took Judah as a vassal city (2 Ki. 16:7 9, 18:14 16). The Qin dynasty ruled first and created many policies that were adopted and abandoned by the second rulers, the Han dynasty. Shi Huangdi, the ruler during the Qin dynasty, implemented the idea of standardization and executed his plans for standardization in an orderly fashion. Shi Huangdi created provinces, which was divided into counties, and there were heads of the provinces who reported to the emperor about what was going on within their province. In the counties there was a head too. The head of the county reported to the head of the province. The Han adopted this because it created a strong government and worked for the Qin dynasty. Both the Qin and Han did not want to be overthrown like the Zhou dynasty was. A last policy that was adopted by the Han was that of, expanding the territory. Shi Huangdi performed the act of expanding territory and pushed his borders out to the Yellow/Huang River. Shi Huangdi grew his territory because he had a growing population with overcrowded cities. • 7. The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer In his novel The Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer presents the corruption of the Catholic Church through several of his characters. Chaucer lived in a time of controversial indulgences, a way to pay off sins. Chaucer s tales show his opposition to these sinful behaviors that he believed were common among the clergy. In order to protest against sinful behavior and religious corruption, Chaucer uses characters such as the pardoner, the friar, the summoner, and the prioress to show the lack of morality and faith among the clergy, and presents the parson as an example of how to correct corruption of the Catholic Church. Chaucer demonstrates corruption of the clergy through the pardoner who is a sinner since he deceives the innocent through greed, which at the time was a mortal sin. Chaucer describes the pardoner as having a bunch of relics in his pouch such as a croys of latoun, full of stones (GP 699). However, Chaucer retorts, But with thise relikes, whan that he fond A povre person dwellynge upon lond, Upon a day he gat hym moore moneye Than that the person gat in monthes tweye (GP 701 704). Here, Chaucer calls the pardoner a liar who uses false relics to collect money from people he meets who are trying to repent of their sins. The pardoner is even more appalling because he preaches against greed, yet he is guilty of that very sin when he tricks the innocent into giving him large amounts of money by using these false relics. • 9. Police Corruption In The Police Aung San Suu Kyi wrote, It is not power that corrupts but fear. Fear of losing power corrupts those who wield it and fear of the scourge of power corrupts those who are subject to it. If it can be said that power inevitably corrupts, there is no reason to presume that police officers as individuals are any less fallible than other members of society. There is a natural human inclination for power that is maximized today by the materialistic society we live in that fuels greed and seduces those with authority into reaping the personal and financial benefits of evading the law. The art of corruption has existed in American society since the early days of policing to modern day. Corruption applied to a police force entails the robbing of drug dealers, redirecting of contraband into the personal accounts of officers, perjuring one s self to protect a corrupt officer, falsifying police reports, planting drugs to frame citizens, and a host of other misconduct that violates the oath of protecting the people. By approaching the issue of police misconduct with a focus on reformation internally and externally, police departments can take innovative steps from there to first, ensure corruptive deeds cease to occur initially and second, by reducing and eliminating it once it exists. If a police officer misuses his/her authority while acting officially to fulfill his/her personal needs or wants, that is corruption in policing. Cosmos signifies the earth, and polis means city or state. The Enlightenment philosophers Emmanuel Kant and Baron de Montesquieu interpreted the idea slightly differently but fundamentally agreed that it entails the communication and exchange of varied cultures, especially through commerce. Cosmopolitism is not to be confused with legal pluralism, discussed by Lauren Benton and Lisa Ford, which is the continuation of numerous, somewhat independent legal structures inside one region existing simultaneously. Reason is a human characteristic, so everyone, from natives of South America to religious Spanish Catholics can understand the universal laws. Because all people use their reason to determine universal laws, all cultures share certain values. Grotius, a believer in universal law, argued that God, wished human friendships to be engendered by mutual needs and resources (Grotius, 1). The needs of humanity cannot be met in just one geographical location, so global trading is required. The interaction of these different cultures, by means of commerce, results in the creation of the cosmopolitan. One society may be able to harvest a certain product better than another, so mutual respect and principles for all of humanity are required. Without it, humanity will not have access to all of the creations of the world, and economic activity and trade would be substantially diminished. Hiring A Human Resource Department For A School District The Objective of this document is to outline a hiring procedures manual that a Human Resource Department for a school district might use to hiring an employee. Hiring is arguably the most important function of the HR Department and a set of procedures should be in place to make the steps move in an efficient manner. The HR Department wears many hats and is most cases responsible for many areas: budget controlling, conflict resolution, training, employee satisfaction, cost saving measures, strategic planning, and of course the big one...the hiring of the right individuals. The hiring process needs to be an organized and well thought out set of procedures from identifying who will be needed to the hiring and training of that individual. There are many steps, some of which have legal ramifications, so the procedures need to be followed and reviewed to ensure that the procedures are not only capturing the best candidates but the procedures comply with all of the laws. A high level view of the HR Department s job includes: identifying the open position, develop (or already have a developed job description) that includes the duties of that position, collecting applications, screening applications, interviewing applicants, making the decisions on who will get an offer, that actual hiring of that individual, and the training process. Geochemical Tracers Essay 4.2 Geochemical tracers Due to recent advances in both quick analytical techniques for large numbers of samples and numerical source apportioning models that allow a more detailed and quantitative understanding of the uncertainty associated with estimated results, the geochemical tracers are extensively used in recent sediment fingerprinting studies (Franz et al. 2013; Grimes et al. 2007). Such as rare earth elements (REE; e.g., La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb and Lu), major elements (e.g., Fe, K, Na, Al, Ca and Mg) and trace elements (e.g., As, Ba, Co, Cr, Cs, Hf, Sc, Ta, Ti, Th and Zr), in both source soil and sediment samples, have been used in sediment fingerprinting studies (Horowitz et al. 2012; Hughes et al. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Natural geogenic REE signatures sometimes may be a potential proxy for identifying lacustrine sediment sources and soil erosion rates (Wen et al. 2014). Though REEs has many advantages, owning its relatively high cost, REEs have not been extensively used. There are three approaches that can account for potential differences in sediment geochemistry relating to particle size and mineralogy. One commonly used way of normalization is to use measured bulk concentrations in the total sediment sample to account for differences in sediment geochemistry. The diluting effects of non reactive constitutes (e.g., coarse sediment, quartz and feldspar grains) can be removed. The second way of normalization is to divide the concentration of the potential tracer by the concentration of the conservative element (e.g., Al, Ti and Li). The third method is to incorporate a correction factor into the mixing model (Collins et al. 1998). Moreover, the geochemical tracer method can also be applied to contemporary and historic sedimentary deposits for reconstructing temporal changes in sediment provenance at the catchment scale (Thevenon et al. 2013). 4.3 Radionuclides Atmospheric fallout radionuclides(FRN), such as 7Be, 10Be, 137Cs, 210Pb, 239Pu and 240Pu, effectively tag surface sediments and the concentration declines markedly with depth and are preferentially absorbed to clay minerals and organic matter due to their high specific surface area which renders them chemically ... These extraordinary circumstances test the human limits and push us into making life altering decisions. Night written by Elie Wiesel and Hiroshima written by John Hersey portray how every day life might un expectantly change, how frail life really is, and how these unexpected changes test what is inside us. As a result, EEG/video has become the gold standard for discriminating between epileptic and nonepileptic attack (Bergen, 154 155). Both clinical observation and EEG/video have reveal that long durations of start stop pattern, direct actions, and situational triggers are more common in pseudoseizures than in true seizures (Bergen, 154 155). The motion of energy defines kinetic energy. According to Exploratorium, when you throw a tennis ball and it lands on the floor, it gains kinetic energy. The molecules in the tennis ball begin to stretch apart. Then, they squeeze back together. As this process occurs, the ball gains more energy and is able to bounce off the ground. Cliches like this are what society is starting to grow bored with. Many stories go with the same classic image of the portrayals of typical character roles. Plot structures are becoming more and more transparent with no real substance to the character s development or anything substantial to the plot. However, some novelists are starting to branch off from that stereotypical structure into something that differentiates themselves. Ray Bradbury, known as one the best, if not the best, science fiction writers of our time wrote one particular short story, A Sound of Thunder. This piece is about a common science fiction topic, time travel. However, instead of glorifying the wonders of time travel and the possibilities of what could be considered an idealistic dream machine, Bradbury shows the consequences of dabbling with space and time. Exploring themes of death, fear, and drastic change, Bradbury was no longer part of the cliche bubble of science fiction. Another piece that greatly differentiated itself from other works of similar topics was Aldous Huxley s piece Brave New World. This piece is satire of the societal problems of the time it was written, during the Great Depression. The piece s protagonist was by no means, the typical knight in shining armor. Abutment Teeth Proper selection of abutment teeth is an important component of removable partial dentures (RPDs) design and should account for the need of abutment teeth to withstand forces (vertical, horizontal and torque) normally directed towards the missing teeth as well as the abutment teeth itself. This essay will focus on the periodontal considerations when selecting abutment teeth for the RPD. Chronic periodontitis is a slowly progressive inflammatory disease that results in the destruction of periodontium (Armitage and Cullinan, 2010, Shaddox and Walker, 2010). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A study following a group patients for 5 years found that of the total abutment teeth lost, 42% were due to periodontal disease (Tada et al., 2013). Another study reported tooth loss of 18.8% attributable to periodontal complications (Cabanilla et al., 2008). It is postulated that the horizontal and lateral stress transmitted to the abutment teeth may lead to breakdown of periodontium and increase tooth mobility (Jorge et al., 2006). While there may be disparities in the findings, both studies have shown the possible periodontal complications related to RPDs. It has been shown that RPDs enhance plaque formation and retention especially on tooth surface in direct contact with denture thereby increasing the risk of adverse periodontal reactions (Petridis and Hempton, 2000). • 42. Separation of Power It should be remembered that the notion of the doctrine is in the assumptions that the three organs of the government and its functions should be distinguishable from one another. The idea of abandoning the notion of the doctrine means all functions of the government can be performed by one organ for example executive takes all government functions like enacting the law, interpreting the law, provides people s welfare, determines the rights of the people. In our opinion, we do not wish to abandon the doctrine of separation of power but however, this notion shall follow the Montesquieu approach as he provides for a separation of power that aims at having separate institutions doing separate function by separate personnel and having the ... Many of the other constitution around the world offers some degree of separation of powers. It controls administrative actions Separation of power promotes efficiency in the administration. Through separation of powers, each power of the government has to be assigned with their own duties, judiciary, also legislature, and these duties should not be interfered. • 44. Reaction Paper On Ecocriticism The term ecocriticism was coined in 1978 by William Rueckert in his essay Literature and Ecology: An Experiment in Ecocriticism. Interest in the study of nature writing and reading literature with a focus on green issues grew through the 1980s, and by the early 1990s, ecocriticism had emerged as a recognizable discipline within literature departments of American universities. It is highly relevant today when man s life on earth is threatened by three major factors : Global warming; Ozone Depletion; Nuclear threat. It is important now that man focuses his attention on the marvellous creations of God, especially the three cycles Water cycle, Carbon oxygen cycle, Nitrogen cycle. In this regard, the scientific accuracy of the Bible is amazing. The Bible revealed astonishing details regarding earth s climate system, centuries before non Biblical writings did. The Bible books genesis, Job, Isaiah, Ecclesiastes, Amos reveal details of the three cycles of nature. In the 11th century B.C.E., King Solomon of Israel wrote ... • 45. Reflection In Computer Science And Engineering Stuck in between majors at the beginning of the quarter, and desperately needing another credit to compete my schedule, I stumbled upon this seminar and added it to my already stem filled schedule. Hoping to gain value on what a potential major could be for me, I went to the first week of class and was immediately impacted by the presenters for the College of the Environment. I wish to reflect back on this presentation as well as Professor Richard Ladner s presentation in Computer Science engineering and Professor Wendy Thomas s presentation in bioengineering. The first week of class immediately brought with it an important presentation to me on the topic of Diversity in stem. As an existing pre engineering student at the time of the presentation I had a very narrow misconception as to what the field of engineering entails and the majors that are available within in. During the presentation, I learned that the College of the Environment actually contained its own form of engineering, environmental engineering, that is recognized as the only engineering major outside the School of Engineering here at the University of Washington. This was crucial to me because it immediately broadened my horizon, I have always had an interest in the environment and this allowed me to research a new potential major that could intertwine my interest in science with my background in the outdoors. The second presentation that affected me was the presentation by Wendy Thomas, and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Essay on Community Profile Introduction The locality I have based my community profile on is Ardoyne. I feel that Ardoyne is familiar enough for me to carry out my research as I have lived here all my life. Although my project is based in Belfast city centre, we work with many groups and young people from the Ardoyne area. this would prove beneficial to myself as I would sometimes have already developed a relationship with the young people through community life. I will firstly explore the community I have chosen by speaking to local people, using photographs, and recordings of my observations. In doing so I intend to create a picture and overall feeling of the community as well as the people who live here. This data will be accompanied by my own comments in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For a community that witnesses a lot of conflict during each year Ardoyne is full of people who love to chat and help out whatever why they can. The older generation in particular take pride in their what s mine is yours attitude. While taking this picture an old lady quietly asked me if I was a tourist. I replied laughing telling her no. she went on to tell me that she walked her granddaughter to school through the protesters each morning while it lasted. In that time she had to endure spitting and urine filled balloons being hurled at her by the protesters. She also talked about the day a pipe bomb was thrown at the parents and children of the school. She said she wouldn t wish it on anyone as she slowly walked off. I couldn t help thinking what a bizarre experience just chatting with the old lady, who was completely open to sharing her experience with me. Improving a specific aspect of community life The aspect of community life I have chosen to explore is the drinking culture within Ardoyne. In the small area that is Ardoyne there are eight pubs, five of which being night clubs. I feel that this environment is contributing to the many issues facing the community of Ardoyne.
