The Age Of Franco Research Paper
The Age of Francisco
Francisco Franco was a ruthless dictator of Spain from 1939 to 1975. He started as a talented military
general, who rose up to power and lead the Nationalist rebels to victory in the Spanish Civil War.
During his time as dictator, he ruled with confidence and control, and sided with the Axis Powers
during World War Two, but then quickly gained a good reputation with the United Nations after the
war was over. As one of the many dictators of the World War Two era, Franco is an important figure in
history.
Biography
Francisco Franco was born in El Ferrol, Spain on December 4,1892 into a military family. Following
in his father s footsteps, Franco joined the military and graduated from Toledo Military Academy. In

Franco s main goal was to restore Spain to its former glory. Just five months after the Spanish civil
war ended, World War Two started. Spain remained neutral in the war because of their intense debt,
however they sided with the Axis Powers. Francisco Franco did meet with Adolf Hitler in the middle
of the war saying Spain would join the war on the side of the Axis powers if Germany agreed to some
of Franco s terms. Hitler denied this request and Spain stayed out of the war. Franco tried to become
completely neutral in the war in 1943 but it was too late, Spain was invested too deeply with the Axis
Powers and gained enemies. The west already viewed Franco as a fascist and did not support him.
Franco tried to change this by changing the name of The State Party to the State Movement to appear
as though he was not fascist. With this change and his anti communist views, Spain gained political
popularity with the United States and was asked to join the United Nations in

Influenza Vaccination Campaign Analysis
When people see or hear advertisements, whether it be in a magazine or on television, many do not
stop to consider or analyze the techniques that go into making the advertisement effective. For
instance, the Center for Disease Control has a campaign that has the purpose of promoting the
influenza vaccination. If you examine the campaign closely, it becomes clear that the advertising
campaign targets a diverse audience of all ages, genders, and races who could all benefit from getting
an influenza vaccination. In this advertisement campaign, the Center for Disease Control effectively
promotes the benefits of getting an influenza vaccination to a targeted audience using numerous
persuasive techniques such as association and universal appeal. One of the advertisements created as
part of the campaign features a young, interracial couple smiling and laughing while enjoying
listening to music. With the purpose of recommending getting flu shots, the advertisement uses a
young couple to target an audience of young adults. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Significant Were the Nationalist Leaders in Changing...
How significant were the nationalist leaders in changing the relationship between Great Britain and
Ireland in the period 1815 1922?
Robert Pearce cites the work of outstanding nationalist leaders joining together to oppose the tyranny
of England and compelling her to retreat and abandon most of Ireland . Whilst O Connell campaigned
for the emancipation of Catholics, uniting them and bringing about political advancement, his
significance is questionable; after 1840 he had failed to bring about repeal. In comparison Parnell
finally made the image of Home Rule a realistic possibility and Collins who ultimately brought about
negotiations of the Anglo Irish treaty; effectively leading Ireland to freedom. In assessing the
significance of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore we must consider that there are other aspects such as the Famine that were significant and
contributed to the changing of the Irish British relationship.
On the other hand, it was nationalist leader Parnell who brought about the whole issue of Home Rule
to the forefront of British politics and laid the foundations for a change in British Irish relations.
Parnell s astute ability to manipulate the Irish public allowed him to unite the various shades of Irish
nationalism together and unite them under one movement; the New Departure. This united movement
posed a direct threat and allowed him to exert extreme pressure on the British government . By 1879
Parnell had become president of the Land League and had forged and maintained crucial relations
with America. The American Irish relations were heavily responsible for funding the Land League,
which was crucial to Parnell s persuading of Gladstone to pass the Land Acts of 1881 which granted
the 3Fs, fair rent, free sale and fixity of tenure. The formation of Parnell s disciplined, pledge bound
party ensured the issues of Ireland would be present in British politics; as no british government was
singularly strong enough to govern without the support of the Irish with the IPP increasing their
number of MPs from 63 to 85. Tweedie even goes as far to suggest the results of the general election

Force Lab Results
During this lab, my partner and I had to figure out what our variables were in order to start the tests.
Our independent variables were mass, surface area, height, and the force applied. Our dependent
variable was the amount of time it took the object took to reach the ground. Lastly, our control
variables were the type of object, height, planet, force, temperature, and air resistance. We then began
our experiment by gathering all our materials for each factor that was being tested. We did our tests
several times to get an accurate answer. For some of the tests, we could not figure out which object hit
the ground first, so we used an app that recorded the object falling. The app slowed the video down, so
that we could see which object fell first. We then recorded our results on a piece of paper. The purpose
of this lab was to test the different factors that affected a falling object. The factors that were being
tested were mass, surface area, height and force applied. We achieved this purpose by doing all of the
different tests successfully. I learned that the heavier an object or the more force you apply, that is how
much faster the object drops to the ground. I also learned the smaller the height of an object or the
lesser the surface area, that is how much faster the object drops to the ground. ... Show more content

The Pros And Cons Of Gene Patents
Gene Patents: More Harm Than Good?
Michael Crichton and John E. Calfee explain the factors and outcomes that have come from gene
patents. While Crichton is against these patents, suggesting that patents are a barrier to research and
increase the cost of medical expenses, Calfee refutes these ideas; furthermore, the authors disagree as
to whether genes meet the criteria for a patent to begin with (Crichton, paras. 1 13) (Calfee, paras. 1
6).
Innovation of research for diseases is a key part to their treatment, and Crichton and Calfee disagree
whether patents barrier this research. When an item or idea is patented it means it s owned; therefore
no one else can use it without the owner s permission. Michael Crichton discusses how patents are ...

It is one of the main points that Crichton uses to show that gene patents are unethical. Crichton brings
up breast exams. The exam can be done for $1,000, but because the gene involved is patented, it now
cost $3,000 (Crichton para. 2). In his article he states Couldn t somebody make a cheaper test? Sure,
but the patent holder blocks any competitor s test (Crichton para. 3). Since the gene is patented, the
owner has complete control of pricing making it impossible to make or find a cheaper test. He also
uses the example of Canavan disease. The owner of the gene connected with Canavan s disease began
to require that royalties be paid before tests could be run. Calfee on the other hand discusses the case
about breast exams and states that most patented genes are owned by universities on behalf of
researchers (Calfee para. 2). Calfee suggests that because the patents are mostly owned publically, all
testing can not be inflated and monopolized as believed. He states, The other article concluded that
prices of patented and exclusively licensed tests are not dramatically or consistently higher than those
of tests without a monopoly a very different scenario from that suggested by the Myriad lawsuit

Examples Of Escapism In The Glass Menagerie
Neil Gaiman, a renowned English author, questioned the thought provoking line, If you were trapped
in an impossible situation, in an unpleasant place, with people who meant you ill, and someone
offered you a temporary escape, why wouldn t you take it? Gaiman advocates towards the idea of
when life becomes stressful, people tend to find a temporary escape to alleviate anxiety and avoid the
harsh realities of the world. In his play, The Glass Menagerie, placed in St.Louis during the Great
Depression, Tennessee Williams creates a story that demonstrates this theme of escapism. Tom
Wingfield, an aspiring poet who steals away from his mundane life with alcohol and going to the
movies, narrates a memory illustrating the familial tensions between him, his mother Amanda, and his
younger sister, Laura. Amanda is stuck in an imaginary time loop, constantly reminiscing about her
golden days in Blue Mountain, where she attracted seventeen gentlemen callers. Her state of mind was
caused by her marriage to a man who chose world travel over his family. Now, she takes comfort in
governing her children s lives and reliving her youth. Tom s extremely reserved 23 year old sister,
Laura, has lived a reclusive life due to insecurities about her limp. She seeks safety through tending to
her treasured glass menagerie and listening to music from a Victrola. Utilizing a myriad of recurring
motifs such as the Wingfield apartment fire escape and deception in his play, Williams spins a tale that

Marketing
Executive Summary
The disappointing sales performance during the Christmas 1999 season ended up being a priceless
lesson for TiVo s marketing team: it was the catalyst that created the need for a TiVo s new
communications strategy. However, defining this new marketing campaign was challenging,
especially after the feedback received about the product indicated issues like limited awareness and
hard to communicate functionalities. The main focus of this new marketing campaign is to select a
positioning strategy that will speed up the adoption of TiVo among consumers. The marketing team
has three options on how to position TiVo: 1) as an enhanced digital video recorder, 2) as a product
that gives viewers the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Viewers can pause live television to attend interruptions such as phone calls or unexpected visits. It
gives viewers the freedom to watch whichever program they want, whenever they want. With TiVo s
capacity to store up to 30 hours of recorded television, users reduce the hassle of using videotapes to
record television programs. Users virtually eliminate the possibility of missing their favorite shows,
since they can set up TiVo to record them. With these aforementioned features, TiVo will revolutionize
the way Americans view television.
Price. The current price of $999 for the 30 hour TiVo box is extremely high. It can easily discourage
any early adopter or a TV addict. Hence, the marketing team should reduce the price to $399, even
lower if financially viable. The more attractive the ticket (i.e. TiVo Box) for the ultimate TV
experience, the easier consumers will be lured in. The service fee structure seems at a very reasonable
price, it requires no major price adjustments.
Place. Electronic retail stores, such as Best Buy, Circuit City, and Sears serve as the best channels to
sell the product. It is imperative that the marketing team develops a training program for the sales
force of those retail outlets. Many consumers will have their first TiVo experience in a retail store;
hence, the salespeople must be prepared to demonstrate the benefits of TiVo in a flawless way. The
internet should be used as another channel to sell the product, especially the

Persuasive Essay On Driving
On October 6th, 2011 I was scheduled at 8:45 am to take my driver s license exam. I had been
preparing for this day the moment I received my temps six months prior. Instead of my grandfather
drive me to his home from high school every day, I demanded to start driving us home. When my
mom would come home late at night to pick me up from my grandparents house to take me to my
actual home I would drive us too. I was relentless when it came to practicing driving. On late nights, I
would take my future car, a 98 two door ford to a soybean field behind my house and practice parallel
parking. Although this may seem like overkill, driving was something I wanted more than anything.
You see, there were many reasons I wanted to drive so bad, one, because of the freedom it would give
me and two, I wanted to be able to see something I had put so much time and effort into become a
reality. It was not the same as studying for a test, it was a life skill that would come in handy almost
every day of my life. At this point my life was not how I had pictured it being, and when I compared it
to others in my peer circle I realized how much of my life I had missed out on due to my father s
parenting style, my mother s inability to stand up for herself, and a series of other unfortunate events
that never seemed to let up. Up until the second grade I thought all kids went through what I went
through, dealing with an incarcerated father, who, when out of jail would be drunk for long periods of

A Dill Pickle Critical Analysis
A Dill Pickle by Katherine Mansfield represents the women s pursuit of independence through
loneliness. Mansfield captures real life stories, not ones fabricated to appeal to the masses. This story
takes place in a café, a couple meets again after 6 years apart. Their meeting emphasizes the women
(Vera s) cynical look on love and her sensitive personality. The man exudes arrogance and has a way
with words. The differences between the two characters highlight the divergence of their love and the
lack of certain personality traits of each character. This unveils one of many reasons why their
relationship would come to an end breaking both of their hearts. Vera doesn t talk much in the text,
instead we dive deep into her inner thoughts and that s where she expresses her true feelings of the
past relationship and unravels her teetering feelings for the man, each topic he brings up reminds her
of an unpleasant memory of him from the past but as he talks he turns those horrible memories into
good ones, convincing Vera to fall back in love with him. But she was thinking how well she
remembered that trick of his the trick of interrupting her and of how it used to exasperate her six years
ago (Mansfield, 16). The fact that Mansfield chose to have Vera think how it used to exasperate her
this shows that it no longer irritated her by the word choice of used to the man has convinced her that
it no longer is a point of irritation for her but something she now finds endearing.

Introduction
Early marriage affects millions of children through the world. It is widely practiced in the countries of
South Asia where every year millions of girls preteens and teens become the wives of older men.
Young girls are married when they are still children and as a result are denied fundamental human
rights. Early marriage compromises their development and often results in early pregnancy and social

One problem in assessing the prevalence of early marriages is that many are unregistered and
unofficial and hence, are not a part of any data collection system. Very little data exists on marriages
of children under the age of 10, even less on those below that age[6].

Conspiracy Theory Pros And Cons
The power of cons
There is a conspiracy theory behind almost all major events and tragedies in the world. At first you
might just brush off these theories and ideas thinking that they are nothing but a bunch of nonsense.
Some conspiracies can easily be proven wrong but In the more popular and well known conspiracy
theories such as the 9/11 attacks and the assassination of JFK there are very credible facts to back up
the idea belief that is being portrayed. Weather you believe in conspiracy theories or not, there is some
alarming evidence in some the concept that will make you think twice about what you presumed to be

On Friday November 22, 1963 in Dallas texas the 35th president of the United States John Fitzgerald
Kennedy was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald while travelling in a motorcade in Dealey Plaza, or
that is what is said to have happened.(Miller, 2017) Some believe that there was a little more to the
assassination then just the one shooter. This conspiracy is that there was more than just one shooter
and that there was a larger group group behind the event other than just Oswald himself. There are
quite a few events that occured that make this theory that much more believable. The two things that
happened that stand out to me the most are the murder of Oswald just two days after JFK s death and
the fact that after audio analysis the HSCA concluded that there was a fourth gun shot. Oswald was
arrested soon after killing JFK but two days later when He was being transferred from city jail to
county jail he was shot at close range and killed by Jack Ruby. (Victor, 2017)This lead some people
tof believe that Oswald was part of a larger group or organization that had helped him plan the
assassination and that Jack Ruby was sent to Oswald to make sure he would not expose the group. The
second bit of evidence that is very compelling is in the audio recordings of the assassination. After
analyzing the Audio recording of the assassination the HSCA conclude

Upanishads Vs Herodotus
The Katha Upanishads from ancient India and the Greek historian Herodotus, both define the belief of
the good life. Although there are similarities between the two perspectives, there are also various
differences between the Upanishads and Herodotus. Firstly, they differ in terms of origin. The
Upanishads are a representation of ancient India and Herodotus originates from Greece. It is noted,
that the Greeks originally settled in Greece due to its abundance of gold and silver. Whereas, Indians
settled in India due to the topography or the terrain of the land. India s soil was fertile and good for
growing many crops. There is already an immediate difference between the two, just based on why
each group decided to settle where they did. Furthermore, this outlines perfectly ... Show more content

The Upanishads emphasize that life is full of temptations. More importantly, that these temptations
can be controlled by discovering why they are there to begin with. While the Upanishads use
spirituality to define the good life, Herodotus believes instead that Earthly wealth defines the good
life. Meaning materials wealth, having a faithful wife, being healthy, etc. Additionally, Herodotus
mentions this belief through a series of narratives rather metaphors, that stress the point that a person s
blessings should also be a reflection of an individual s heart. However, both Herodotus and the
Upanishads include in their message the afterlife. They differ in a sense that, the Upanishads link
eternity to the Atman, while Herodotus links the fate of an individual to the afterlife. Meaning,
Herodotus expresses that the true revelation of the good life will not be unveiled until an individual as
passed away. To conclude, the two perspectives of the good life are different between the Upanishads
and Herodotus. Yet they are similar in the sense, of mentioning that the afterlife is the only way to

Understanding Child and Young Person Development
Unit title: Understand child and young person development

Question 4
4.1 Analyse the importance of early identification of speech, language and communication delays and
disorders and the potential risks of late recognition. It is essential that speech, language and
communication delays and disorders are noticed early so the relevant interventions can be used to
support the child or young person. Answer the questions below.
1. How can observation be used to identify speech, language and communication delays? 2. What
should you do if you have concerns about a child s development of speech, language and
communication skills? 3. What would be the risks if these delays were not identified? Use your

The child born thus may be able to say certain sounds but not be able to speak clearly as the vocal
chords may be affected or due to damage in the brain that controls language.
There may be a recognised syndrome or disorder that causes language difficulty for the child and is
not able to communicate with others. The child may have a lack of stimulation and support to provide
the rich language experience necessary to develop speech, language and communication skills. For
example at school, the setting may not have an enabling environment to stimulate the child s different
interests necessary for acquiring language. The books, music, songs and so on may not stimulate and
interest the child.
For most children there is no clear reason as to why there is a delay in the development of speech,
language and communication skills. Therefore, an adult should never assume that the child s speech,
language and communication problems are due to hearing loss. It may be that the child is experiencing
communicating difficulties that are unrelated to their hearing problems because the child may not have
acquired the vocabulary necessary to express his thoughts and actions.
It is important to observe the child carefully, closely and to listen to them in different situations to
ensure that the teacher is clear about what their needs are, their strengths and difficulties. It is
important to observe the

An Analysis Of Mechanical Solidarity
Last month, Harvey Weinstein, an extremely successful Hollywood producer, was accused of sexual
harassment and assault by many women. Following the occurrence, other highly respected men,
particularly those involved in the movie industry, have also been accused of similar offences. There
has been a snowball effect of allegations as more recent incidents have been mentioned that encourage
victims of earlier incidents to come forward. These accusations, previously hidden and ignored, are
being mentioned now because of improved social networks amongst women, stronger solidarity
against the issue of sexual offences, and feminist politics in rape response. To understand social
networks, relationships and their forms are analyzed. In those networks ... Show more content on

By providing care and assistance to victims of sexual assault, rape crisis centres are effective and
lasting products of second wave feminism (Corrigan 2014). Although rape crisis centres are
institutions created by feminist politics, workers refuse to use the term feminist as a label for their
services (Corrigan 2014). According to Corrigan (2014), the label rejection is a useful tactic in
keeping the feminist movement alive in politic; the label rejection keeps feminism versatile. Although
rape crisis centres have been successful, the institutions continue to face obstacles as a result of being
politically marginalized. Relating back to Simmel and Wolff (1950) and social network analysis,
strong ties are meaningful ties where relationships between individuals and groups can benefit.
However, the marginalization can make the ties weak by preventing access to potential resources

Garlic Research Papers
Garlic and Allergy Symptoms
Seasonal allergies affect millions in the United States and around the world. Sneezing, itching, watery
eyes, a runny nose all of these symptoms can be attributed to the release of histamines in the body.
Over the counter medications may relieve the symptoms, but what many allergy sufferers don t know
is that these symptoms can be treated from inside, holistically, safely, and deliciously.
Garlic is one of the most well known and widely used spices in the world, and for good reason. With
its strong taste and bright flavor, just a clove can spice up any meal. It s also one of the most potent
natural antihistamines, and is incredibly high in natural antioxidants.

Shakespeare Twelfth Night
William Shakespeare s play, Twelfth Night, focuses on identity, love, and comedy. While we made our
adaptation to this play, we chose to have a more modern approach. Because we decided on a modern
adaptation, we had to come up with a modern storyline; therefore, there is still love and confusion
about identity. Taking place in 2015 in Los Angeles, Orsino is the number one modeling agency in the
state. Along with a new setting, we have also changed some actions with the characters, meaning some
things that take place in the play are not a part of our storyline (for example Feste as the Clown). Our
adaptation has the potential to be a real movie because it is realistic. The main purpose behind
Shakespeare s Twelfth Night was to entertain, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to achieve this literary device that is major to our movie, we decided to use dramatic irony.
For example, Maria makes a comment about Viola saying that she has a soft looking feminine face.
Since Maria has not yet figured out that Viola is in fact a man, it adds to the irony. Another example is
when Felix is talking to Viola, who he believes is Caesar, about how Duke Orsino was only hiring
men for the internship. Viola talks about how she was willing to do anything about it (29 30). This
works as dramatic irony as well because only Viola and the audience know what Viola meant by her
statement. Viola s willingness to do anything meant that she was willing to disguise herself as a man.
The ironic part is that none of the characters know that Caesar is actually Viola actually pretending to
be a man. Our adaptation of this play can work as a movie because of the way we decided to set it up.
Since we decided to modernize the play, our version of it can easily translate to screen. It works
especially when specific stage directions are added to the script. For example, one of the stage
directions describes that Viola flashes her I.D. She waits a while before Maria lifts her eyes from the
screen and looks at the I.D. , which is found right under line 4. Simple, yet straight forward commands
like that make it easy for whom ever is reading the script to know exactly what to do when it comes to
acting out a part of the play. But also, because our adaptation is much more modern, it would make it
easy for the play to work as a

The Gospel Of Wealth Summary
Industrialist Andrew Carnegie was born in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland in November of 1835 to a
family of handloom weavers, a group hit remarkably hard by the mechanization of the textile industry.
Abandoning the minimal expectations and the now almost invaluable job of weaving in the Scottish
industrial cities, Carnegie s family emigrated to the United States in 1848. After years of work and
experience in the expansion of the steel industry, Carnegie obtained a general logic of arguments about
labor to the broader realm of social relation, giving specific attention to the role of private upper class
wealth in a democratic society. His article Wealth, later known as The Gospel of Wealth, was
published in the North American Review in June of 1889. In his writing, he rejected the traditional
goals of charity and depended on less carefully discriminating between the worthy and unworthy
recipients than on attacking the roots causes of inequality/ distribution of wealth themselves. Carnegie
believed that wealth should be invested in the useful ventures for the sake of public being rather than
using money frivolously and ineffectively. The most fitting view in the fact of having surplus wealth
of the few becomes the property of the many, will help our society become more elevated, as Carnegie
explains. (Carnegie 2) With such strategies, the wealthy are more willing to give their wealth, while
they are alive, rather than have their wealth taken from by taxes when

Naylor s NigggerThe Meaning Of A Word
In the essay, Niggger: The Meaning of a Word, Gloria Naylor demonstrates how a word can have a
different meaning to different people depending on one s environment. In another article, The Word
Police, Michiko Kakutani claims that the language that the people use is unreasonable because of
understatement. Both articles illustrate language complexity. However, Naylor uses her personal
examples to argue against a suppression of politically incorrect language in a calm and conversational
tones while Kakutani uses reliable resources to criticize a politically correct movement in a sarcastic
tone. Although both authors deal with the similar subject in their own unique way, Naylor s essay is
better than Kakutani s because Naylor explains her views more clearly. The first reason why Naylor s
essay is better than Kakutani s is because of her attitude toward her topic. Naylor illustrates her point
in a calm and conversational tone to clarify that the word can have a different meaning due to who use
it and how. Her calm tone makes readers know that she is trying to make a reasonable argument. As is
seen in the fourth paragraph when she states, And what exactly did [n word] mean? (323), the author
can make simple statements and proceed to support how the word is said differently. Naylor is wiling
to share her experiences with her audiences rather than blaming anyone for hearing the n word .
Through the sentence, Naylor demonstrates that she is not emotionally involved because

Immunization Study
Vaccines do not cause autism. Just like every other spectrum disorder, Autism is a diagnosis associated
with behavioral observations made over time and can neither be confirmed nor denied by a blood test.
After reading both the Immunization study and the Stanford Prison study, I think the article about the
Immunization study which was written by Drs. Sathyanarayana and Andrade is more damaging than
either that of the Stanford Prison study or the Wakefield Immunization study. As a parent of four
children who would ultimately receive the MMR vaccine in order to attend public school, I followed
the Wakefield case with a high level of interest. Additionally at the time the Immunization study was

The egregious sensationalism with which the findings were promoted by the media created the perfect
breeding ground for this study to be used in a myriad of ways it was not intended. As such, it is my
opinion that the greatest degree of fault which needs to be assessed with regard to the fervor with
which this study generated outcry belongs to the media. In comparison to a story of similar
significance such as the Watergate Scandal of the 1972, the lack of responsible journalism attached to
the Immunization study is the likes with which I have not seen. In this instance, science allowed the
media to dictate which direction it would pursue investigation following the publication of the
Immunization study. This, in my opinion, is almost as irresponsible as the media coverage. Further,
parents allowed themselves to be led down the proverbial rabbit hole instead of taking the time to trust
but verify . As for the public, some believed the published study, and some did not. Those that
believed went on to refuse to vaccinate their children, and the backlash has continued to be significant.
Measles cases soared to levels which were close to that of what are found in herds of animals and set
back the control of the disease by decades. There have been countless lawsuits filed, and hundreds of
thousands of dollars once designated for the research of autism were redirected towards the alternative
study of the connection between vaccination and autism. The reality of the study did not at all
determine the perception which was that the MMR vaccine was ultimately responsible for a regressive
form of autism. Sadly, I do not believe at this point, the harms are not repairable as the situation
continues to bring about enormous debate. Hopefully we can learn from this to be less

Advantages And Disadvantages Of The C Store
One thing that all students who live on a college campus have to do is buy groceries. That is one of the
reasons why the University of Southern Indiana decided to build a convenient store. This convince
store is also known as the C Store, they built this store in with the apartments. Sometimes going to
town to buy groceries can be a hassle, wether it be due to traffic getting to the store or maybe the store
is just to big and you cant find what you are looking for. That is why it is so nice and convenient to
have the C Store on the USI campus. The only problem with the C Store is that it is not the cheapest
place to buy groceries, and they do not have the widest of varieties when it comes buying groceries.
The one thing the C Store provides that no other competitor can can come close to competing with is
convenience. Imagine if someone were making something for supper and realize that they don t have

federal government that allowed the clinic to provide its services to drug abusers as part of a research

Clearly, safe injection sites are categorized as a type of harm reduction for drug users that ultimately
engage in risky lifestyles. Due to the growing number of drug related deaths and the failure of
prohibition of drug use, activists believed that it was up to them to establish alternate measures of
safety for illegal drug use (MacDonald, 2011). Safe injection sites were established to provide people
who inject drugs with a clean injection environment, sterile injections, and with clean drug preparation
tools such as cookers and water (Semaan et al, 2011). Safe injection sites also allow access for drug
addicts to use the available health care and have medical supervision while taking the illegal substance
(Lavoie, 2015). According to Semaan et al, the overall aim of safe injection sites is to reduce public
injection and the risk of infection with HIV, hepatitis C virus, injection related bacterial infections, and
drug overdose morality (2011). According to Macdonald, in 2009 there were approximately 92 safe
injection sites across the world, most of these safe injection sites operated in European cities (2011).
Within Europe safe injection sites were part of local social services, compared to this, Canada s safe
injection sites are research based experiments that must operate under specific laws or by exemption
status from criminal prohibition (MacDonald, 2011). It is then obvious that in

Evaluation Of A Project Management ( Apm ) Essay
A project is a temporary organization that is created for the purpose of delivering one or more business
product in accordance to an agreed business case (PRINCE2 2005). However, this definition doesn t
seem to elaborate on all the principles and numerous factors, which define a project as compared to
Association for Project Management (APM). APM defines a project as an endeavor in which, human
materials and financial resources are organized in a novel. Therefore, being able to deliver a unique
scope of work of given specification often within constraints of cost and time, in order to achieve
beneficial changes which is defined by quantitative and qualitative objectives. It s common for a
project to be mistaken for an operation or vise verse. Though, the difference between these two
subject/principles is highly distinctive. George D (2000) states that an operation is a permanent or
ongoing execution of activities, which produces repetitive results, the results maybe in a form of a
product or service. An operation usually has the same resources, same tasks and a standard output
expectation.
For example, a construction company might embark on a project to purchase two heavy duty dumb
trucks to help transport materials on sites. This project will have a start date and a fixed finish date.

Christian Under Covers Summary
Sociology C167: Virtual Communities/Social Media Midterm In Christians Under Covers, Kelsy
Burke discusses the social construction of evangelical sexuality online. Many components that she
discusses has been laid out in works by Nancy Baym as well as Peter Berger and Thomas Luckmann.
Baym explains how virtual communities are made up of individuals who share values, beliefs, and
culture; resources and support; and identities. Berger and Luckmann explain that reality is socially
constructed through interactions. On evangelical sexuality websites, individuals discuss the logic of
godly sex, which outlines what they deem as normal sexual practices. There are many different types
of regulatory systems of gender and sexuality that reproduce ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This idea is not stated in the Bible; rather, it is established by how we interact with others in our
reality. The logic of godly sex demonstrates traditional beliefs about gender and sexuality while trying
to understand contemporary sexual identities, practices, and desires; one main component of this is the
ability to have good sex, which means approved by God and satisfactory (Burke 2016: 33). For
evangelical Christians, only married, monogamous, heterosexual couples are allowed to have sex.
Many website creators and users have used the logic of godly sex to justify creating and using
Christian websites that discuss sex. Individuals decide what is godly and what is not though discussion
with others; these ideas can be interpreted differently among individuals who have established
themselves as evangelical Christians and is oftentimes negotiated among them through dialogue; they
have used existing beliefs to construct new sexual logic. Interactive determinism is described as a
process through which our identities are shaped and influenced ... by interacting with others (Burke
2016: 107). This helps show how what is considered godly sex is constantly changing through
interactions that individuals made, whether it be in person or on evangelical Christian websites.

According to James Daniel, Aristide s government was overthrown because Aristide was trying to
implement his belief on the people of Haiti, which ultimately sparks the uprising of the coup d état in
1991. Aristide followers used necklaced on other political leaders by dousing then with kerosene, after
placing tires around their necks then setting them ablaze. James Daniel highlighted that the Lavalas;
Aristides supporters continued to cause violence and that Aristide himself praised them to continue
their necklacing especially among the wealthy people of Haiti. Danticat believed that during this time
period it was very important to share her different political views about the issues faced by her fellow
Haitian brothers and sisters by interviewing with Alerte Belance. Danticat managed to paint a vivid
picture in the minds of her readers as to what went on during the 1991 military takeover. As described
in the essay, the Attaché men went around killing everyone who they suspected was a supporter of the
Aristides government, despite the age or gender of the individuals as a sign of revenge.
Edwidge Danticat s love for humanity caused her to share the experiences of what Alerte Blenche had
gone through during the 1991 uprising. Also, the love for her native country and people prompted her
to share with the world the casualties of what happened in Haiti during 1991 through her writing.

Giovanni Falcone Research Paper
Analyse the impact Giovanni Falcone made against the Sicilian mafia:
Giovanni Falcone was born in Palermo, Sicily on May 18th, 1939. Falcone was born into a poor
neighbourhood. He grew up with children who would turn out to be Mafiosi in future as the area of
Sicily was flowing with mafia and ironically Falcone, being one of the largest figures to stand against
the mafia was also born where the original Sicily mafia was also first formed. Giovanni Falcone went
through school with good marks and after going through high school Falcone had a brief history of
learning at a naval academy before attending the University Of Palermo to study law. Falcone
graduated in 1961 and began to practice law, he then became a judge in 1966 on the coast of Sicily
that was heavily populated with Mafiosi. Falcone was shocked with the brutality of the mafia and the
belief of the people that the mob was invincible. Falcone believed with hard work and thorough
investigations that the mafia could be proven of their guilt. Giovanni Falcone s early life of seeing the
mafia first hand influenced him to stand against the mob and to stand for what is right in the eyes of
the law. His belief of hard work and thorough investigations has made him one of the ... Show more

The anti mafia pool which was soon lead by Falcone, had Giovanni s good friend Paolo Borsellino
and other magistrates Giuseppe Di Lello and Leonardo Guarnotta. The anti mafia pool worked closely
together, sharing valuable information on the mafia and how to defeat them. As Giovanni and the Anti
Mafia pool worked together, the founder, Judge Rocco Chinnici, was tragically killed in 1983, all the
magistrates could do was keep working as Chinnici s successor (Antonino Capponetto) was named as
chief magistrate though Falcone was widely regarded as the leader of the

Analysis Of The Poem Death Of Santa Claus
We all believe in the tooth fairy, the boogeyman, and Santa Claus when we re little. Well, for me it
was a family of ghosts with the skin color of blue and blood dripping down their mouths and if they
get me, they eat me. The children ghosts eat more than the adults; therefore, they are the scarier.
Another of my worst childhood experiences was with Dokkaebi, or goblins. My mother carved melons
into claws and feet and boiled them saying they were goblins. I was scarred for life at the age of four.
The Death of Santa Claus by Charles Webb is a poem about a not so Jolly Santa and his not so merry
band suffering because of a nonbeliever and a boy in Texas is talking to his mom about how stupid
kids at school say Santa s a big fake. In this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This poem reminds me of a kid I met when I was little. Since believing in Santa Claus is an American
tradition and I m the first generation Korean American in my family, we don t follow/ celebrate
holidays in America so I knew Santa was a fake (I also don t celebrate Christmas because I am
agnostic). I met this boy when we were in third grade and he was talking about leprechauns. Yes,
leprechauns. I didn t even know what a leprechaun was back then. He said his mother and little
brother captured one and forced it to give the location of where it hid the gold. Well, my other fellow
classmates laughed at him and said leprechauns are not real and then they asked the boy if he believed
in Santa. The boy said yes and the classmates said to him, Santa s not real dummy. Eventually the boy
refused the fact Santa was a fake and he started bawling. My third grade teacher, Mrs. Gamper, had to
comfort him. I was wondering, isn t it cruel of adults to make their kids think these fairytale creatures
who make miracles, are actually real? They eventually have to say to their kid, I m sorry I lied to you
for all these years. I think these stories are actually making a child s trust and happiness drop because
one, they re parents lied to them; two,

Using The Socratic Method
People tend to separate themselves from iconic social leaders and glorify them for bringing about
change within society. What those people fail to realize is that they are not much different from those
activists. As Socrates believed, we as humans are all capable and obligated to think and ask questions.
Those leaders were simply regular people who explored the belief system and mindset of those around
them and challenged those beliefs in order to bring attention to the injustice in the world. Humans are
indebted to think logically, defy social norms and grow confident in their beliefs in order to progress
as a whole. People are often swayed by the opinions of others and that causes them to live passively
and too dependently. This can be blamed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During our class seminars, the socratic method was brought up as a prevention for this. In order to use
the Socratic Method, one must start off with a hypothesis and find counterexamples to disprove their
hypothesis. Once he or she establishes faults in their hypothesis, they must revise it and repeat the
process until it is almost impossible to disprove. Doing this seems stressful and challenging because it
is hard to question your own beliefs versus questioning the beliefs of those around you. When
questioning ourselves, we become defensive because we are exposing ourselves and becoming
vulnerable to the idea that we may not know everything that we think we know; essentially we are
poking at our own ego. Going back to Socrates and the idea that an unexamined life is not worth
living, I believe that ignorance truly is a mindset. The only way a society can undergo a change is if
people examine themselves and the aftermath is many others doing the same. The confidence we get
from simply thinking is amazing and it is a gift that we must utilize. The more conscious people we
have in this world, the easier it is to fight

Compare and contrast how Wilfred Owen and Isobel...
Compare and contrast how Wilfred Owen and Isobel Thrilling portray the horror, suffering and
inevitable disillusionment of war in their respective poems. The two poets that I am going to compare
and contrast in this essay both write from a different perspective of the war. They are writing about
different poems, Owen writes about the 1st world war and Thrilling the 2nd. Both poets are in a
different setting when they write these poems, Thrilling is back at home whereas Owen is in the
middle of the action, he is in the battlefield. This makes his poems more vivid and realistic. Owen was
an adult at this stage and writes it from a soldier s point of view, however Thrilling writes from a child
s point of view. The poems that I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The soldiers are described by Owen as hard working and faithful as they limped, blood shod. The war
is also stressed by the use of the hyperbole. Many metaphors are used in the poem for example rest is
used to signify the dead soldiers. The soldiers are portrayed as being dead and are so tired that they are
almost like they are drunk, stumbling with fatigue. In the next verse highlighting the immediacy of the
action speeds up the pace. GAS, GAS quick boys! The word boys in this sentence emphasises how
young and unprotected the soldiers were. It also shows that they are blind to what is happening, they
are inexperienced and therefore suffer. The word ecstasy is then used to highlight the chaos and
tempo. It is a contrast to the previous verse when they were trudging on the same routine. The army is
portrayed as smart and heroic but they are told to us but Owen as clumsy . The simile like floundering
in fire is used to highlight that they were not in control of what was happening, they were delirious.
The pace is then slowed down as one of the soldier s dies. He is suffocating and this shows us he is
totally helpless. We are at this point looking through the soldier s eyes and this emphasises that we are
helpless too. The slowing down is as if he is drowning. The gas is suffocating the soldier and it is if he
is drowning under the sea because it as described using the metaphor the green sea . The next verse

Israel Cultural Analysis Essays
The purpose of this memo is to investigate the similarities and differences between the United States
and Israel s cultural and business aspects.
Differences Between the United States and Israel Primary cultural aspects of the United States The
United States still has the idea of Manifest Destiny. The U.S. individualism; Individuals believe to
have a control of the future, resulting in a systematic way of doing things. It is very important to be on
time to any kind of meeting or event Time is money ( Usa language, culture,, ). Hard work and

This is an advantage, because it leaves little room for misunderstanding therefore becoming very
effective. Israel is a country that is very open to entrepreneurship; this means that they will most likely
be open to hear new ideas for products or businesses. Israel has a pretty strong economy and stable
political system; this is also a strength when doing business in a foreign country. One of the
weaknesses is that businesspeople from the United States might not share the same views on certain
aspects (such as the role of women), and this may cause some conflict. However, overall women in
Israel do hold important positions and roles that are also carried by men (Salk, 2005). Another thing to
keep in mind when doing business with Israel is that religion plays an important role in their life.
When taking potential clients or partners to dinners there are certain things to keep in mind such as
whether they do not eat certain things or they only eat kosher foods, etc. Not having these things in
mind can cause a bad impression making the lack of knowledge a weakness for the partnership.

How Does Hollywood Reflect American Society
Hollywood is a phenomenon that truly works to express the society of the United States. Through the
study of film, one can see the many ways that Hollywood works to not only echo the sentiments of the
culture but shape the ideas and mindsets of those who watch the films. After 1940, Hollywood has
appeared to reflect American society far more than it has shaped it. The films that appear during times
of war and political strife seem to hit a different note after the United States joined the Second World
War. Suddenly, the messages within the movies were less about how important it was to support the
war cause and more about the ideologies of the war frequently finding new and amusing ways to show
the bad guy. However, after America won the war and came home, the messages of the films did not
seem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the 1960 s, America had another war to worry about. However, this war more than any other echoed
the popular sentiment rather than attempted to show America as the good guy. No, these films were
truly as anti war as the people who demanded them. Stemming from the 1960 s and flowing through
into modernity, many filmmakers worked to revise and remake old ideas often producing films such as
M*A*S*H and Johnny Got His Gun, which departed from the tradition of the just American war by
representing war as something stupid and inhumane. These films did not show the glory of war but
instead caused the viewer to continue to wonder whether or not something so senseless could or
should be supported. This was because politically, the Vietnam war was anything but successful
generally, people hated the war and did not think that America belonged in the area. Because of this,
Hollywood did not want to put out films that directly supported the war, as they would not be
successful at the box office. One cannot help but see America pulling away from its patriotism and
belief in the American

Comparing Anne Frank And Krystyna Chiger
Survival is the act of staying alive. People survive through many different circumstances and
situations, difficult or not. The situations of Anne Frank and Krystyna Chiger were especially difficult.
Both Anne s and Krystyna s situations, which were similar and different, were difficult to survive
through. Firstly, Anne Frank had a difficult time surviving through certain circumstances. Anne Frank
s family and another family, the Van Daans, hid together in a tiny attic because they were in severe
danger just because they were Jewish. There were eight people cramped together, and the situation
was not very pleasant. To survive, Anne Frank had to dream and pretend she was safe and free as well
as working out her emotions by writing in a diary. Another person hiding with Anne, Mrs. Van Daan,
survived a different way. She instead voiced her concerns by arguing, complaining, and critiquing
other people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was Jewish and living in Poland. To hide from the Nazis, Krystyna s family, as well as many other
people, hid in a sewer. In order to survive, Krystyna dreamt of being safe and free. She also stayed
close to her parents because she was scared. Overall, the two stories of survival are very similar. Both
Krystyna and Anne hid for their safety. They both had hard times surviving and they were both scared.
Anne and Krystyna both imagined being free so they could bear the reality of their situation. They
both had parents and siblings to help them stay alive. However, Anne and Krystyna s stories are both
very different, too. While Anne had great living conditions, with a kitchen and lavatory, Krystyna had
to live in a dirty sewer. Once, Krystyna got a dirty pin stuck in her foot. Anne s food was more varied
when Krystyna s was the same every day, and even got stolen by rats. However, Anne did not have as
many people as Krystyna to keep her company, as unfriendly as they might

Pupil Population Analysis
Later, we will test our hypothesis and perform tests to check for heteroscedasticity, multicollinearity,
and serial correlation. For now, we will explain why we chose our variables. We believe each of our
independent variables play a significant role in determining the spending per pupil. Unemployment
rate affect spending because the state government will often increase education spending when
unemployment is high. Unemployment is often linked to lower education level and each state
government would most likely want to change that aspect of their community. The best way to do that
is to create jobs or increase education. This same logic goes for the independent variables percent of
poverty level, and black percentage of population. The percentage ... Show more content on

Federal aid is a variable that focuses on monetary need to begin with. So it is not surprising that it is
correlated with our model. Unemployment is a related factor because when there is high
unemployment, the economy of your state is not doing well, so there will be less resources for state
funding for schools.
After this, we see urbanization is a direct factor. This is because as more people move to cities, the
more money funding they have in that area for schools. If you have 5,000 students attending a school,
they are going to get more state funding than a school of 50. State spending per pupil on schools
overall as a model is very important because the more resources you have per student the more you
can teach them. You can get better equipment, better materials, better teachers, the list goes on and on.
After looking at which variables were important in our model, we can see that money is the main
influencer. If you want your child to have a good education, is best to live in a state that is doing very
well financially. We can see a trend here as well because people who make the most money tend to be
the ones who are most educated. As we start to have our own families and raising children we will not
be aware of which factors influence the money spent per students when choosing which school district
to live

Hitler denied this request and Spain stayed out of the war. Franco tried to become completely neutral in the war in 1943 but it was too late, Spain was invested too deeply with the Axis Powers and gained enemies. The west already viewed Franco as a fascist and did not support him. Franco tried to change this by changing the name of The State Party to the State Movement to appear as though he was not fascist. Robert Pearce cites the work of outstanding nationalist leaders joining together to oppose the tyranny of England and compelling her to retreat and abandon most of Ireland . Whilst O Connell campaigned for the emancipation of Catholics, uniting them and bringing about political advancement, his significance is questionable; after 1840 he had failed to bring about repeal. Therefore we must consider that there are other aspects such as the Famine that were significant and contributed to the changing of the Irish British relationship. On the other hand, it was nationalist leader Parnell who brought about the whole issue of Home Rule to the forefront of British politics and laid the foundations for a change in British Irish relations. Parnell s astute ability to manipulate the Irish public allowed him to unite the various shades of Irish nationalism together and unite them under one movement; the New Departure. This united movement posed a direct threat and allowed him to exert extreme pressure on the British government . By 1879 Parnell had become president of the Land League and had forged and maintained crucial relations with America. The American Irish relations were heavily responsible for funding the Land League, which was crucial to Parnell s persuading of Gladstone to pass the Land Acts of 1881 which granted the 3Fs, fair rent, free sale and fixity of tenure. The formation of Parnell s disciplined, pledge bound party ensured the issues of Ireland would be present in British politics; as no british government was singularly strong enough to govern without the support of the Irish with the IPP increasing their number of MPs from 63 to 85. Our independent variables were mass, surface area, height, and the force applied. Our dependent variable was the amount of time it took the object took to reach the ground. Lastly, our control variables were the type of object, height, planet, force, temperature, and air resistance. We then began our experiment by gathering all our materials for each factor that was being tested. We did our tests several times to get an accurate answer. For some of the tests, we could not figure out which object hit the ground first, so we used an app that recorded the object falling. The app slowed the video down, so that we could see which object fell first. We then recorded our results on a piece of paper. The purpose of this lab was to test the different factors that affected a falling object. The factors that were being tested were mass, surface area, height and force applied. We achieved this purpose by doing all of the different tests successfully. I learned that the heavier an object or the more force you apply, that is how much faster the object drops to the ground. While Crichton is against these patents, suggesting that patents are a barrier to research and increase the cost of medical expenses, Calfee refutes these ideas; furthermore, the authors disagree as to whether genes meet the criteria for a patent to begin with (Crichton, paras. 1 13) (Calfee, paras. 1 6). Innovation of research for diseases is a key part to their treatment, and Crichton and Calfee disagree whether patents barrier this research. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is one of the main points that Crichton uses to show that gene patents are unethical. Crichton brings up breast exams. The exam can be done for $1,000, but because the gene involved is patented, it now cost $3,000 (Crichton para. 2). In his article he states Couldn t somebody make a cheaper test? Sure, but the patent holder blocks any competitor s test (Crichton para. 3). Since the gene is patented, the owner has complete control of pricing making it impossible to make or find a cheaper test. He also uses the example of Canavan disease. The owner of the gene connected with Canavan s disease began to require that royalties be paid before tests could be run. Calfee on the other hand discusses the case about breast exams and states that most patented genes are owned by universities on behalf of researchers (Calfee para. 2). Calfee suggests that because the patents are mostly owned publically, all testing can not be inflated and monopolized as believed. He states, The other article concluded that prices of patented and exclusively licensed tests are not dramatically or consistently higher than those of tests without a monopoly a very different scenario from that suggested by the Myriad lawsuit (Calfee para. ... Gaiman advocates towards the idea of when life becomes stressful, people tend to find a temporary escape to alleviate anxiety and avoid the harsh realities of the world. In his play, The Glass Menagerie, placed in St.Louis during the Great Depression, Tennessee Williams creates a story that demonstrates this theme of escapism. Tom Wingfield, an aspiring poet who steals away from his mundane life with alcohol and going to the movies, narrates a memory illustrating the familial tensions between him, his mother Amanda, and his younger sister, Laura. Amanda is stuck in an imaginary time loop, constantly reminiscing about her golden days in Blue Mountain, where she attracted seventeen gentlemen callers. Her state of mind was caused by her marriage to a man who chose world travel over his family. Now, she takes comfort in governing her children s lives and reliving her youth. Mansfield captures real life stories, not ones fabricated to appeal to the masses. This story takes place in a café, a couple meets again after 6 years apart. Their meeting emphasizes the women (Vera s) cynical look on love and her sensitive personality. The man exudes arrogance and has a way with words. The differences between the two characters highlight the divergence of their love and the lack of certain personality traits of each character. This unveils one of many reasons why their relationship would come to an end breaking both of their hearts. Vera doesn t talk much in the text, instead we dive deep into her inner thoughts and that s where she expresses her true feelings of the past relationship and unravels her teetering feelings for the man, each topic he brings up reminds her of an unpleasant memory of him from the past but as he talks he turns those horrible memories into good ones, convincing Vera to fall back in love with him. But she was thinking how well she remembered that trick of his the trick of interrupting her and of how it used to exasperate her six years ago (Mansfield, 16). The fact that Mansfield chose to have Vera think how it used to exasperate her this shows that it no longer irritated her by the word choice of used to the man has convinced her that it no longer is a point of irritation for her but something she now finds endearing. ... In order to achieve this literary device that is major to our movie, we decided to use dramatic irony. For example, Maria makes a comment about Viola saying that she has a soft looking feminine face. Since Maria has not yet figured out that Viola is in fact a man, it adds to the irony. Another example is when Felix is talking to Viola, who he believes is Caesar, about how Duke Orsino was only hiring men for the internship. Viola talks about how she was willing to do anything about it (29 30). This works as dramatic irony as well because only Viola and the audience know what Viola meant by her statement. Viola s willingness to do anything meant that she was willing to disguise herself as a man. The ironic part is that none of the characters know that Caesar is actually Viola actually pretending to be a man. Our adaptation of this play can work as a movie because of the way we decided to set it up. Since we decided to modernize the play, our version of it can easily translate to screen. It works especially when specific stage directions are added to the script. For example, one of the stage directions describes that Viola flashes her I.D. She waits a while before Maria lifts her eyes from the screen and looks at the I.D. , which is found right under line 4. Simple, yet straight forward commands like that make it easy for whom ever is reading the script to know exactly what to do when it comes to acting out a part of the play. But also, because our adaptation is much more modern, it would make it easy for the play to work as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. The Gospel Of Wealth Summary Industrialist Andrew Carnegie was born in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland in November of 1835 to a family of handloom weavers, a group hit remarkably hard by the mechanization of the textile industry. Abandoning the minimal expectations and the now almost invaluable job of weaving in the Scottish industrial cities, Carnegie s family emigrated to the United States in 1848. After years of work and experience in the expansion of the steel industry, Carnegie obtained a general logic of arguments about labor to the broader realm of social relation, giving specific attention to the role of private upper class wealth in a democratic society. His article Wealth, later known as The Gospel of Wealth, was published in the North American Review in June of 1889. In his writing, he rejected the traditional goals of charity and depended on less carefully discriminating between the worthy and unworthy recipients than on attacking the roots causes of inequality/ distribution of wealth themselves. Carnegie believed that wealth should be invested in the useful ventures for the sake of public being rather than using money frivolously and ineffectively. The most fitting view in the fact of having surplus wealth of the few becomes the property of the many, will help our society become more elevated, as Carnegie explains. (Carnegie 2) With such strategies, the wealthy are more willing to give their wealth, while they are alive, rather than have their wealth taken from by taxes when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Naylor s NigggerThe Meaning Of A Word In the essay, Niggger: The Meaning of a Word, Gloria Naylor demonstrates how a word can have a different meaning to different people depending on one s environment. In another article, The Word Police, Michiko Kakutani claims that the language that the people use is unreasonable because of understatement. Both articles illustrate language complexity. However, Naylor uses her personal examples to argue against a suppression of politically incorrect language in a calm and conversational tones while Kakutani uses reliable resources to criticize a politically correct movement in a sarcastic tone. Although both authors deal with the similar subject in their own unique way, Naylor s essay is better than Kakutani s because Naylor explains her views more clearly. The first reason why Naylor s essay is better than Kakutani s is because of her attitude toward her topic. Naylor illustrates her point in a calm and conversational tone to clarify that the word can have a different meaning due to who use it and how. Her calm tone makes readers know that she is trying to make a reasonable argument. As is seen in the fourth paragraph when she states, And what exactly did [n word] mean? (323), the author can make simple statements and proceed to support how the word is said differently. Naylor is wiling to share her experiences with her audiences rather than blaming anyone for hearing the n word . After reading both the Immunization study and the Stanford Prison study, I think the article about the Immunization study which was written by Drs. The egregious sensationalism with which the findings were promoted by the media created the perfect breeding ground for this study to be used in a myriad of ways it was not intended. As such, it is my opinion that the greatest degree of fault which needs to be assessed with regard to the fervor with which this study generated outcry belongs to the media. In comparison to a story of similar significance such as the Watergate Scandal of the 1972, the lack of responsible journalism attached to the Immunization study is the likes with which I have not seen. In this instance, science allowed the media to dictate which direction it would pursue investigation following the publication of the Immunization study. This, in my opinion, is almost as irresponsible as the media coverage. Further, parents allowed themselves to be led down the proverbial rabbit hole instead of taking the time to trust but verify . As for the public, some believed the published study, and some did not. Those that believed went on to refuse to vaccinate their children, and the backlash has continued to be significant. Measles cases soared to levels which were close to that of what are found in herds of animals and set back the control of the disease by decades. There have been countless lawsuits filed, and hundreds of thousands of dollars once designated for the research of autism were redirected towards the alternative study of the connection between vaccination and autism. The reality of the study did not at all determine the perception which was that the MMR vaccine was ultimately responsible for a regressive form of autism. Due to the growing number of drug related deaths and the failure of prohibition of drug use, activists believed that it was up to them to establish alternate measures of safety for illegal drug use (MacDonald, 2011). Safe injection sites were established to provide people who inject drugs with a clean injection environment, sterile injections, and with clean drug preparation tools such as cookers and water (Semaan et al, 2011). Safe injection sites also allow access for drug addicts to use the available health care and have medical supervision while taking the illegal substance (Lavoie, 2015). For evangelical Christians, only married, monogamous, heterosexual couples are allowed to have sex. The war is also stressed by the use of the hyperbole. Many metaphors are used in the poem for example rest is used to signify the dead soldiers. The soldiers are portrayed as being dead and are so tired that they are almost like they are drunk, stumbling with fatigue. In the next verse highlighting the immediacy of the action speeds up the pace. GAS, GAS quick boys! The word boys in this sentence emphasises how young and unprotected the soldiers were. It also shows that they are blind to what is happening, they are inexperienced and therefore suffer. The word ecstasy is then used to highlight the chaos and tempo. It is a contrast to the previous verse when they were trudging on the same routine. The army is portrayed as smart and heroic but they are told to us but Owen as clumsy . The simile like floundering in fire is used to highlight that they were not in control of what was happening, they were delirious. The pace is then slowed down as one of the soldier s dies. He is suffocating and this shows us he is totally helpless. We are at this point looking through the soldier s eyes and this emphasises that we are helpless too. The slowing down is as if he is drowning. The gas is suffocating the soldier and it is if he is drowning under the sea because it as described using the metaphor the green sea . The next verse ... This is an advantage, because it leaves little room for misunderstanding therefore becoming very effective. Israel is a country that is very open to entrepreneurship; this means that they will most likely be open to hear new ideas for products or businesses. Israel has a pretty strong economy and stable political system; this is also a strength when doing business in a foreign country. One of the weaknesses is that businesspeople from the United States might not share the same views on certain aspects (such as the role of women), and this may cause some conflict. However, overall women in Israel do hold important positions and roles that are also carried by men (Salk, 2005). Another thing to keep in mind when doing business with Israel is that religion plays an important role in their life. When taking potential clients or partners to dinners there are certain things to keep in mind such as whether they do not eat certain things or they only eat kosher foods, etc. Not having these things in mind can cause a bad impression making the lack of knowledge a weakness for the partnership. ... • 48. How Does Hollywood Reflect American Society Hollywood is a phenomenon that truly works to express the society of the United States. Through the study of film, one can see the many ways that Hollywood works to not only echo the sentiments of the culture but shape the ideas and mindsets of those who watch the films. After 1940, Hollywood has appeared to reflect American society far more than it has shaped it. The films that appear during times of war and political strife seem to hit a different note after the United States joined the Second World War. Suddenly, the messages within the movies were less about how important it was to support the war cause and more about the ideologies of the war frequently finding new and amusing ways to show the bad guy. However, after America won the war and came home, the messages of the films did not seem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the 1960 s, America had another war to worry about. However, this war more than any other echoed the popular sentiment rather than attempted to show America as the good guy. No, these films were truly as anti war as the people who demanded them. Stemming from the 1960 s and flowing through into modernity, many filmmakers worked to revise and remake old ideas often producing films such as M*A*S*H and Johnny Got His Gun, which departed from the tradition of the just American war by representing war as something stupid and inhumane. These films did not show the glory of war but instead caused the viewer to continue to wonder whether or not something so senseless could or should be supported. This was because politically, the Vietnam war was anything but successful generally, people hated the war and did not think that America belonged in the area. Because of this, Hollywood did not want to put out films that directly supported the war, as they would not be successful at the box office. One cannot help but see America pulling away from its patriotism and belief in the American ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Comparing Anne Frank And Krystyna Chiger Survival is the act of staying alive. People survive through many different circumstances and situations, difficult or not. The situations of Anne Frank and Krystyna Chiger were especially difficult. Both Anne s and Krystyna s situations, which were similar and different, were difficult to survive through. Firstly, Anne Frank had a difficult time surviving through certain circumstances. Anne Frank s family and another family, the Van Daans, hid together in a tiny attic because they were in severe danger just because they were Jewish. There were eight people cramped together, and the situation was not very pleasant. To survive, Anne Frank had to dream and pretend she was safe and free as well as working out her emotions by writing in a diary. Another person hiding with Anne, Mrs. Van Daan, survived a different way. She instead voiced her concerns by arguing, complaining, and critiquing other people. ... In order to survive, Krystyna dreamt of being safe and free. She also stayed close to her parents because she was scared. Overall, the two stories of survival are very similar. Both Krystyna and Anne hid for their safety. They both had hard times surviving and they were both scared. Anne and Krystyna both imagined being free so they could bear the reality of their situation. They both had parents and siblings to help them stay alive. However, Anne and Krystyna s stories are both very different, too. While Anne had great living conditions, with a kitchen and lavatory, Krystyna had to live in a dirty sewer. Once, Krystyna got a dirty pin stuck in her foot. Anne s food was more varied when Krystyna s was the same every day, and even got stolen by rats. However, Anne did not have as many people as Krystyna to keep her company, as unfriendly as they might ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Pupil Population Analysis Later, we will test our hypothesis and perform tests to check for heteroscedasticity, multicollinearity, and serial correlation. For now, we will explain why we chose our variables. We believe each of our independent variables play a significant role in determining the spending per pupil. Unemployment rate affect spending because the state government will often increase education spending when unemployment is high. Unemployment is often linked to lower education level and each state government would most likely want to change that aspect of their community. The best way to do that is to create jobs or increase education. This same logic goes for the independent variables percent of poverty level, and black percentage of population. The percentage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Federal aid is a variable that focuses on monetary need to begin with. So it is not surprising that it is correlated with our model. Unemployment is a related factor because when there is high unemployment, the economy of your state is not doing well, so there will be less resources for state funding for schools. After this, we see urbanization is a direct factor. This is because as more people move to cities, the more money funding they have in that area for schools. If you have 5,000 students attending a school, they are going to get more state funding than a school of 50. State spending per pupil on schools overall as a model is very important because the more resources you have per student the more you can teach them. You can get better equipment, better materials, better teachers, the list goes on and on. After looking at which variables were important in our model, we can see that money is the main influencer. If you want your child to have a good education, is best to live in a state that is doing very well financially. We can see a trend here as well because people who make the most money tend to be the ones who are most educated. As we start to have our own families and raising children we will not be aware of which factors influence the money spent per students when choosing which school district to live ...
