1st Portfolio Development Idea: Photographer's Portfolio Website LayoutQian Rong
The document discusses considerations for designing an effective photography portfolio website. It notes that a portfolio website provides evidence of a photographer's work, requires them to promote themselves, and showcases their experience and training through an organized collection of photos. Reasons for designing a portfolio include positively influencing how users view the work and presenting credentials and information in a user-friendly way. Key aspects to include are targeting the right audience, using an appropriate number of high-quality images, and ensuring photos are prominent on the page with minimal lag. The document also outlines problems the author encountered on existing portfolio sites and proposes improvements such as better categorization, optimized loading, and displaying larger images.
Presentation about choosing the correct resolution and file format (jpg, gif, and png) for images on the web, and an introduction to image editors (Pixlr, GIMP, and the Google+ Image Editor). Also includes information on optimizing images for social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest, Google+).
The document discusses various methods for sourcing and processing images for use in publications. It describes advantages and disadvantages of sourcing images from books, Google Images, stock image libraries, copyright-free sites, and taking one's own photos. Key methods addressed include scanning images from books, searching Google Images, purchasing stock photos, using free images, and producing custom photos. The document also reviews processing techniques like cropping, scaling, and changing image resolution for print versus web. Manipulating photos through editing tools is demonstrated with an example caption added to a historical parachute suit image.
The document discusses how branding was achieved throughout the production's various products. Key elements used for consistency included color scheme (purple and red), fonts (Jeepers for titles, Georgia for body text), layout (similar images and minimal text), and logo placement (logo featured prominently on all pages and materials). These elements worked together to create a recognizable visual identity and sense of branding across the website, postcard, and film logo.

2nd Portfolio Development Idea: Video blog Qian Rong
A video blog, or vlog, is a platform that uses videos rather than text or images to share content. Vlogs allow bloggers to freely share their opinions and reactions through facial expressions and body language visible in videos. While podcasts are audio-only files distributed via RSS, vlogs involve uploading video files to blogs. When designing a video blogging website, considerations include providing a richer experience through short videos versus long posts, attracting a bigger audience through engaging video content, and using video for effective marketing and promotion of products or services.
The document discusses using video as a tool to drive revenue. It covers topics such as choosing quality over forgettable videos, deciding between do-it-yourself video production versus outsourcing, gear and equipment for video shooting and editing, online video distribution platforms, and using video analytics to improve marketing. Tips are provided on lighting, audio, framing, editing software, and uploading videos online. The goal is to help businesses understand how to effectively use video for their marketing.
The document discusses the various technologies used to construct a music magazine product. Blogger was used to create an online blog to upload content for the magazine, including preliminary tasks, planning, production, and evaluation. Photoshop was used extensively for image editing and design work, including cutting out images, adding gradients, blurring edges, and special effects. YouTube provided tutorials for masthead design and a way to upload evaluation videos. SoundCloud, Audacity, and Windows Movie Maker were used for audio/video recording and editing. SurveyMonkey created a survey to understand the target audience.

The Cartoon Network ident uses bold black and white text and animation to clearly convey its brand identity to its target child audience. The letters of the logo jump around before coming together, intended to engage children viewers. Techniques like fluid animation, eye-catching visual effects and movement, and bright colors make the ident attractive to children. The only advanced technique is a sharpen effect to make the logo look shiny and eye-catching. The ident is in HD 720p format for clearer viewing on YouTube, though it still looks clear in standard definition.
The document outlines a proposed 2D animation project. The objectives are to determine if 2D animation can effectively convey emotion through characters, backgrounds, and objects. The author will work individually to research 2D animation techniques, draw concept art, storyboard, animate, and edit the project. Milestones include completing research/analysis and a first draft for review. Resources needed are drawing/editing software and equipment, research materials on animation styles and past works. The tutor agrees the project is suitable and not duplicative of other qualifications.
The document discusses feedback received on media products created for an indie pop band. For the music video, audiences felt the narrative was unclear at times and not fully understood. They viewed the website as easy to navigate but limited as a single page. From this, the author learned narratives must be evident and websites could include more pages and links. Audiences connected all the pieces through their shared theme and style. Production software like Final Cut Pro and Photoshop allowed creating professional-looking pieces while Dreamweaver proved difficult for coding the website. Overall, using different technologies improved the presentation of the student's work.
The document discusses the various technologies and online resources the author used during the planning, research, filming, and editing stages of a music video project. These included YouTube for researching music video conventions and editing tutorials, DaFont for fonts, Facebook for coordinating filming schedules, and Prezi, Emaze, and Slideshare for documenting research. Sony Vegas Pro was used to edit the video, Photoshop for photos, and Blogger to archive the entire project process. Some challenges included an ineffective home camera dolly and the learning curves of new software programs. Overall, the author felt technologies like the Nikon D3200 camera, Sony Vegas, and Photoshop were most useful in creating a high quality final product.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
