The Million Book Project aims to digitize one million public domain books by 2007 through scanning centers located around the world. The project is led by Carnegie Mellon University and has digitized over 1.4 million books as of now through 22 scanning centers in India and 18 in China. Some of the main technical challenges for the project include intellectual property issues, machine translation, metadata handling, information storage, search capabilities, and optical character recognition for non-Roman scripts.

An attempt is made at this point to undertaking issues associated in the direction of the LIS education in India and specified some suggestions based on routine features and experiences. This paper presents a historical outlook of Library and Information Science (LIS) education in India. This paper discusses the study also put forward the fundamentals of the LIS curriculum and the vision of LIS education in India for the future decade and stresses the wants of revised course contents and allied challenges for readiness of Indian LIS education in the digital environment. Finally, this paper highlights the recommendations of the National Knowledge Commission offer an opportunity for restructuring and modifying the educational system of LIS that needs to be snatched.

References Definition of information science  Information science is that discipline that investigates the properties and behavior of information, the forces governing the flow of information, and the means of processing information for optimum accessibility and usability.  It primarily concerned with the analysis, collection, classification, manipulation, storage, retrieval, movement, dissemination, and protection of information.  This includes the investigation of information representations in both natural and artificial systems, the use of codes for efficient message transmission, and the study of information processing devices and techniques such as computers and their programming systems.  It is an interdisciplinary science derived from and related to such fields as mathematics, logic, linguistics, psychology, computer technology, operations research, the graphic arts, communications, library science, management, and other similar fields. It has both a pure science component, which inquiries into the subject without regard to its application, and an applied science component, which develops services and products." A Comparative Study of Library Web-OPAC on Different Library Management Software

Abstract: This paper is discussed about a comparative study of library Web-OPAC on five major LMS (Library Management System) software. The ter OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) is an online database of materials held by a library or group of libraries. Web-OPAC is nothing but while the OPAC is accessed through a web browser over Internet. The selected five LMS software are Koha, Libsys, Alice for Windows, NewGenLib and Virtua. It focused on their Web-OPAC attributes and properties. This study describes the five LMS software to find out suitable Web-OPAC attributes by visiting the Web-OPACs of institutions / organizations where using those software. There is a table of comparative statement by putting the attributes and properties on those five software. As result, it found the major attributes which should be integrated in an efficient Web-OPAC.
