Microsoft DirectAccess Remote Access (VPN) with Windows 10 and Server 2012Kemp
Microsoft DirectAccess is a VPN like remote access technology that is a core component of the Windows Server 2012 R2 Remote Access role. DirectAccess is a unique solution that is designed to replace traditional VPN access. It provides secure, seamless, transparent and always-on remote access to corporate networks for clients running Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8.1 Enterprise, and now, Windows 10.
Windows 10 support is welcome as over half of the 110 million managed Microsoft clients in Enterprise deployments have adopted the latest release. Eager as they are to get the new features Windows 10 offers, such as the new improved Start menu, the modern Edge web browser, Cortana – the intelligent personal assistant, Windows Hello authentication, and many other improvements.
DirectAccess provides these advantages over most traditional VPN solutions:
- Active Directory Domain joined client computers connect automatically rather than connections being user initiated
- Connections seamlessly work through all firewalls
- Supports selected server access when connected
- Can use IPSEC authentication to corporate servers
- Supports end to end encryption of the connection
- Provides transparent failover to another corporate network access point or site if required
- Supports offline domain join for clients that have never been on the corporate network
-Allows central IT staff to manage the remote computers over the DirectAccess connection
The integration with standard corporate Domains and the ability to manage clients remotely is very compelling especially for maintaining a client population that is remote and mobile with users who seldom connect directly to a corporate network.
Windows 10 and DirectAccess work really well in concert to provide a true remote access solution for Windows based clients. One that users will not have to struggle with, and one that IT and security staff can be confident about using.

Tokyo Azure Meetup #5 - Microservices and Azure Service FabricTokyo Azure Meetup
Azure Service Fabric is now Generally Available!
In this meetup we will start from the beginning and define what is microservice.
Next we will have a deep dive in Azure Service Fabric. Azure Service Fabric is one of the most interesting Azure service. Used internally in Microsoft for 5 years and backing up one of the most demanding Azure services today such as Azure SQL, Document DB, Cortana and Skype for Business.
We will be talking about the two models that are supported by Azure Service Fabric:
- Reliable Services (We will explore the reasons for having both stateful and stateless offerings in this model)
- Reliable Actors
Then we will talk how you can create Azure Service Fabric cluster on premise or in another cloud.
We will demo deployments in Azure for the various models.
Azure Service Fabric is the most advanced and complete offering for developing and hosting microservices in Azure. It builds on years experience Microsoft acquired running one of the most demanding services such as Azure SQL. Moreover, Azure Service Fabric solves very difficult distributed computing problems such as data synchronization, zero downtime deployment, update and rollback operations at large scale.
Join us to learn more about Azure Service Fabric and start using it immediately after the meetup!

Are you jumping on the microservices bandwagon? When and when not to adopt micro services architecture? If you must, what are the considerations? This slidedeck will help answer a few of those questions...
Microservices is a software architecture design pattern in which complex applications are composed of small, independent processes communicating with each other using language-agnostic APIs. These services are small, highly decoupled and focus on doing a small task.
Service Fabric – building tomorrows applications todayBizTalk360
This session walks through incorporating Microsoft Service Fabric into your next application for zero downtime and upgradability. Microsoft have released the very same Azure Fabric smarts that look after for e.g. Azure VM management, into the Application space. Meaning your Apps can be based on the Actor model, highly distributed, scalable and in place upgrades with zero down time is now possible. Tapping into scale is key in this world of Cloud First, Device First world - can your apps handle the load? Bring the management of Azure to your application layer.
Microservices created quite a buzz in software development. Those are finally being adopted, and a lot of project suffer from that... microservices bring a lot of infrastructure and distributed programming complexity not all organisations can cope with. Question is – is it possible to gradually migrate to microservices architecture without Big Bang/Rewrite From Scratch approach? I would say it is possible, and is a much better idea compared to installing Kubernetes on AWS on day one. This talk is based on practical experience of architecting business applications to scale out and grow up to become micro services one day.

How to Position Your Globus Data Portal for Success Ten Good PracticesGlobus
Science gateways allow science and engineering communities to access shared data, software, computing services, and instruments. Science gateways have gained a lot of traction in the last twenty years, as evidenced by projects such as the Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI) and the Center of Excellence on Science Gateways (SGX3) in the US, The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) and its platforms in Australia, and the projects around Virtual Research Environments in Europe. A few mature frameworks have evolved with their different strengths and foci and have been taken up by a larger community such as the Globus Data Portal, Hubzero, Tapis, and Galaxy. However, even when gateways are built on successful frameworks, they continue to face the challenges of ongoing maintenance costs and how to meet the ever-expanding needs of the community they serve with enhanced features. It is not uncommon that gateways with compelling use cases are nonetheless unable to get past the prototype phase and become a full production service, or if they do, they don't survive more than a couple of years. While there is no guaranteed pathway to success, it seems likely that for any gateway there is a need for a strong community and/or solid funding streams to create and sustain its success. With over twenty years of examples to draw from, this presentation goes into detail for ten factors common to successful and enduring gateways that effectively serve as best practices for any new or developing gateway.

Providing Globus Services to Users of JASMIN for Environmental Data AnalysisGlobus
JASMIN is the UK’s high-performance data analysis platform for environmental science, operated by STFC on behalf of the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). In addition to its role in hosting the CEDA Archive (NERC’s long-term repository for climate, atmospheric science & Earth observation data in the UK), JASMIN provides a collaborative platform to a community of around 2,000 scientists in the UK and beyond, providing nearly 400 environmental science projects with working space, compute resources and tools to facilitate their work. High-performance data transfer into and out of JASMIN has always been a key feature, with many scientists bringing model outputs from supercomputers elsewhere in the UK, to analyse against observational or other model data in the CEDA Archive. A growing number of JASMIN users are now realising the benefits of using the Globus service to provide reliable and efficient data movement and other tasks in this and other contexts. Further use cases involve long-distance (intercontinental) transfers to and from JASMIN, and collecting results from a mobile atmospheric radar system, pushing data to JASMIN via a lightweight Globus deployment. We provide details of how Globus fits into our current infrastructure, our experience of the recent migration to GCSv5.4, and of our interest in developing use of the wider ecosystem of Globus services for the benefit of our user community.
In software engineering, the right architecture is essential for robust, scalable platforms. Wix has undergone a pivotal shift from event sourcing to a CRUD-based model for its microservices. This talk will chart the course of this pivotal journey.
Event sourcing, which records state changes as immutable events, provided robust auditing and "time travel" debugging for Wix Stores' microservices. Despite its benefits, the complexity it introduced in state management slowed development. Wix responded by adopting a simpler, unified CRUD model. This talk will explore the challenges of event sourcing and the advantages of Wix's new "CRUD on steroids" approach, which streamlines API integration and domain event management while preserving data integrity and system resilience.
Participants will gain valuable insights into Wix's strategies for ensuring atomicity in database updates and event production, as well as caching, materialization, and performance optimization techniques within a distributed system.
Join us to discover how Wix has mastered the art of balancing simplicity and extensibility, and learn how the re-adoption of the modest CRUD has turbocharged their development velocity, resilience, and scalability in a high-growth environment.

A micro-service represents a small piece of business logic. By nature it is atomic. thus it can be designed, developed, deployed independently. As it encapsulates business logic, this unit must be tested and certified.
Orchestration Services consume one or more micro-services and/or Orchestration Services to achieve a greater goal.
Little control on how the API’s will be used
No control on how services are Orchestrated used in Combination
