The Angel Of Death Research Paper
The Angel of Death
The Nazi party rose to power in 1933 under the leadership of Adolf Hitler, and would soon
unleash a reign of terror and death upon Europe. However, Hitler was not directly responsible for
all of the terror to ensue; there were many Nazi followers and soldiers who committed unspeakable
crimes of war and other atrocious acts even as far as crimes against humanity. One such man was
Dr. Josef Mengele.
Mengele was born March 16th, 1911 in GГјnzburg, Germany. He received his Ph. D. in physical
anthropology in 1935, when he was 24 from the University of Munich. A few years later, in 1937
he was the assistant to Dr. Otmar von Vercheur who was famous for his research on twins. In
1945, Mengele fled Germany. He was caught by US soldiers who later released him, not realizing
who exactly he was. Mengele was never found alive again. It was said that after he escaped, he
befriended a Nazi supporter in Brazil named Wolfgang Gerhard, who hid Mengele for years and

It is hard to imagine someone able to do such horrible things to a person and be able to calmly
walk them to their deaths as if it was nothing. Like the Nazi system Mengele was able to let people
believe in a false sense of security, thinking they had the system, and Mengele s intentions figured
out while they were unknowingly being led to their demise.
Josef Mengele was a revered scholar and one of the most infamous members of the Nazi party
known of today, especially through the crimes against humanity he committed from his work with
experimentation and torture on twins and many others. In most pictures found of Mengele he is
showing off his gap toothed smile, but behind that smile is the terrible Angel of

Egretta thula
Snowy Egret
Synonyms: Aigrette neigeuse (French), Garceta pie dorado/Garza chusmita/Garza nivea (Spanish)
Family: Ardeidae (Herons, Bitterns, and Egrets)
Description
The snowy egret Egretta thula is a relatively large wading bird, standing at around 24 inches
[60.96 cm] high and displaying a brilliant white plumage. Very similar in appearance to the Great
Egret, the Snowy Egret can be distinguished by its bright yellow feet, sometimes referred to as
golden slippers, which contrast against its black legs. However, even ... Show more content on

Fig. 1 Distribution of Egretta thula throughout North and South America based on seasons.
Habitat
Snowy egrets inhabit marshes, ponds, swamps, and mudflats (Bull Farrand). Since snowy egrets
are wading birds, like other herons and egrets, they prefer habitats that are close to water. Wading
birds breed and build their nests in close proximity to water, allowing them to have access to food
while raising their young. In North America, the snowy egret s favorite habitats include salt
marshes, shallow bays, and mangroves. Snowy egrets prefer similar habitats throughout South and
Central America and the Caribbean (Weslosky, 2002).
Conservation Biology
Life cycle and reproduction
Breeding colonies, sometimes of multiple different species, form on islands surrounded by
water or guarded by a vegetative buffer. Such features are presumed to be desirable due to the
protection they provide from predators on the ground (Frederick, 2002). Nests are often built
using sticks, reeds, and other vegetation and constructed in trees, shrubs, or other aquatic
vegetation (Elphick, 2014). A clutch consists of 3 5 eggs, a pale blue green in color, laid in a nest
located in a bush or reedbed, specific to the species of egret (Bull Farrand, 1994). Breeding season
begins in March or early April and males will perform both flight and vocal displays to attract
females. Snowy egrets are social nesters

Apologization Of Apology
An apology is an admission that you have done something wrong and regret doing so. It can be
difficult to admit that you have made a mistake. You have to let go of any defensiveness and ego
and refrain from backtracking. No one likes the complicated, defeated feelings that come from
being wrong. Apologizing requires humility and the willingness to place the needs of those you
have wrong above your own. It is imperative that you specify whether you are really sorry for
your actions or if you are only sorry that you were caught. With that said, I once had to apologize
for making fun of a friend s weight without realizing the effect that it would have on her. Before
apologizing, I first had to specifically recount what I was sorry for and acknowledge

Make Me Like A Well Watered Garden
MAKE ME LIKE A WELL WATERED GARDEN
It was the spring of 1980. My husband Ken and I had been in our first pastorate in the San
Joaquin Valley of California, known as the nation s Garden Spot , for almost a year. During the
summer of 79, several of our church members had generously shared with us the fruits of their
labors in their gardens and it seemed that everyone had a garden. Thus, when the spring of 1980
arrived, I, who never liked working in the dirt; I, who would rather wash, starch and iron shirts
than dig in a flower bed or weed a garden, decided we should have a vegetable garden. The former
pastor had two BIG ONES so surely, with the help of my pastor husband, who was reared on the
farm, we could have a lovely garden that would produce enough vegetables to feed us through
what Californians refer to as winter. Being the submissive wife that I was, I asked Ken what I
needed to do first. He borrowed a tiller (whatever that is) and began to prepare the soil for seeding.
All the weeds were cleared away, so that nothing was left but beautiful rich, brown dirt. Then he
made these little indentations, called furrows, down through the freshly plowed dirt and
smoothed it all out to perfection. Then I had to do the REAL work I dropped the seeds in those
little furrows. He came along behind me, covered the seeds with dirt, patted it down just so, and
then watered the entire plot. I was so proud! I had planted a garden! About three days later I said to

The Rainmake
John Grisham s The Rainmaker is the sixth novel to film adaptation and is by far one of the more
accomplished. Directed by Francis Ford Copolla, this intriguing courtroom drama reveals the
ordeals of a young lawyer and associate entering the realm of unscrupulous money hungry
company s scams. They were totally unqualified to try the case of a life time, but every underdog
has his day .
To become a Rainmaker is Rudy Baylor s (Matt Damon) ambition, to try the case of a lifetime and

school graduate, confidentially enters the eye opening world of law and injustice in the 90 s. Kick

Inside houses a cosy kitchen, a scratched wooden table, paisley patterned lounge chairs and Donny

Another setting quite effectively featured is St. Peter s hospital, housing battered Riker. Entering
the dim and gloomy cafeteria, contrasting the brightly lit, disinfected, starched white walls of the
hospital rooms and hallways, gives the viewer a peek inside Riker s world of pain, confusion and
poorly administered bandages.
The courtroom, where most of the action takes place, is the epitome of law and order. The
squeaky clean marble floors and polished wooden beams display the tradition of the courtroom and
the importance of all which takes place in this setting. Other settings also lend credit to the film, the
tackiness of Bruiser Stone s office, the peace and beauty represented at the jewellry store where
Riker is employed amidst visits to the hospital, and the dark and secretive cinema, where Baylor
and Riker share a tender moment. All settings are effectively and appropriately chosen and are very
apt in relevance to the storyline of the film.
The storyline is one of the most crucial parts of a successful film, though the actors who portray
their characters realistically are the absolute essence of the production. The Rainmaker sports a

A Task Force
A task force was formed to examine issues surrounding null hypothesis significance testing and
the publication of research studies regarding these results. As a result of this task force,
recommendations were made to revise statistical sections of the APA publication manual. But
before these revisions were implemented, the Board of Scientific Affairs (BSA) recommended to
initiate discussion of these changes, the task force publish an article in American Psychologist,
hence this article. I will break down these suggestions in methods, results and discussion.
METHODS It is important in the design portion that the researcher is very clear and concise on
the type of study they are conducting, and making it clear if there are multiple goals. By making
the design section clear and concise, there is no question on what the researchers are trying to
accomplish and what their goals are. Defining a population is critical to any conclusions in an
article. The definition of the population, including any control groups, of the study must be clear
and concise, including the characteristics, which can affect the interpretation of the data. Within the
population we have the sample, the procedures of which need to be clear and concise as well,
including all relevant information. If the data is clustered or stratified, as opposed to random
samples, we must include that information as it will affect interval estimates. Sample size can be
critical to the results of a study, to it is important

Five Motivation Theories
In today s working stressful environment, motivation is necessary for more productivity.
Motivation is considered as force to achieve specific goals. In an organization a manager or leader
should always motivate his/her subordinates to perform work. There are number of motivational
theories given by social scientist. But we will focus on the five main theories which are given
below:
Hertzberg s two factor theory
Maslow s hierarchy of needs
Hawthorne effect
Expectancy theory
Three dimensional theory of attribution
I will explain these theories in detail and how they can be implemented in work environment.
Hertzberg s two factor theory this theory is also known as dual factor theory or motivation hygiene
theory. In 1950, psychologist Frederick Hertzberg developed motivational theory. After the research
among various employees, Hertzberg found that below two factor influence employees satisfaction
and motivation:
Motivational factors: these factors increase satisfaction and motivation among employees. Some of
these factors are promotion, recognition of work and enjoying the work. As I mentioned these
factors increase satisfaction and motivation, but their absence does not create dissatisfaction among
employees.
Hygiene factors: In the absence of these factors, employees don t feel motivated and satisfied.
Examples of these factors are relationship with managers and co workers, salary, benefits, company
policies.
Implementation in workplace for the motivated and satisfied

Postmodern Views On The State
Postmodern Views on the State
Many societies have experienced post modernization as the de centralization of society, politics,
and economy as well as the decline of the various dominant modernization paradigms, which
structured industrial society both formally and informally in the past decades (Best and Kellner
1997; Drake 2010). In social are, for example, the ethnic or cultural bases of many nationalities
have started to dissolve and societies have become more multiethnic, multicultural, fragmented
and melting pots of various hybrid postmodern identities (Jessop 2015:157). In political era,
scholars have advanced the end of ideology thesis during the end of the 1980s and especially with
the collapse of the Soviet Communist Bloc. The liberalism, individualism, post modernist
discourses were triumphant and announcing the dawn of a new era in which early ideological
conflicts would disappear as a source of political conflict on the global scale (Fukuyama 1993). In
economy field, at the start of the twenty first century, almost everyone can realize the significance
of economy not just in deciding elections but also in shaping the broader processes of the state.
Scholars also argue that we are now living in an age of pocket book politics , which means that
with the decline of traditional political ideologies, narrowly conceived economic self interest has
been the overwhelming driving force of the political processes (Pierson 2011:81). Political

Toxic Masculinity In Lord Of The Flies
Within Lord of the Flies, we see firsthand the violence and destruction that lies within humanity,
and boys in particular. Without society, they fell apart. They committed atrocities that go against
every rule, every social expectation, we see in humanity. Although Lord of the Flies shows
important ideas about boys place in society, it also allows the reader to form damaging views on
ideas such as death, violence, and conflict. When you hear the phrase toxic masculinity , it s
usually used as a joke. However, there s a reason that it s a concept. Toxic masculinity is a social
science term used to describe the phenomenon within a society where masculine traits, such as
anger, violence, egotism, contempt, aggression, as well as showing destructive or apathetic
behavior, are rewarded. Normally, these traits are regulated by law and society. When the boys are
taken out of society, however, they have no restraints, leading to the boys relying on these traits. In
their minds, aggression and violence are good; however, a successful society cannot be made from
violence. Even societies such as Sparta valued other traits: honesty, ambition, diligence, duty,
strength, loyalty, and bravery. It wasn t just violence; instead, they created a community of us
against them , which may have lead to violence, but it wasn t the founding value. In battle, they
were told to come back with their shield or on it, which shows the braveryneeded to be a warrior
and loyalty to the state. Mandatory education and martial training emphasized duty and diligence.
The boys had none of this. Their society was built on violence, aggression, and disorder, with a
survival of the fittest mentality. Of course, the way we raise boys isn t going to lead to a healthy
society. The characteristics we instill in male adolescents do nothing to contribute to a positive
society, and without order and regulations, these characteristics create the oppositeof a positive
society. They create a breeding ground for anarchy, chaos, and brutality, even to the point of
sadism. Golding is trying to use this story to tell society that we can t afford to promote such traits,
that cruelty will only cause problems, that aggression will never lead to a

president of the Republic of the Philippines when independence was granted, as scheduled, on July

Roxas, including Elpidio Quirino, Ramon Magsaysay, Carlos P. GarcГa, and Diosdado Macapagal,
all who served 4 year terms. Then, the president after Macapagal, Ferdinand E. Marcos, served as
president from 1965 to 1986. During this time, government corruption and civil disorder
increased. After a series of fraud attempts in the 1986 elections, Marcos lost his support and

Analysis Of Billy Budd By Herman Melville
The novella Billy Budd by Herman Melville is a 1924 sea story that has underlying allusions to
Christ and the bible as pointed out by many critics. Many have found that Billy s life resembles
the plight of Christ, as well as Adam, while Captain Vere is meant to stand as God, and Claggart is
left as the role of Satan. These underlying character molds ultimately contribute to the novella as a
whole and explore the dilemmas of their Biblecounterparts. William Billy Budd has been
described as a Christ like character. His physical appearance remains to be a focus throughout,
and his perfection is, ultimately, what attracts all the sailors to him. Billy has an innocence to
him that many on the ship have lost. However, nothing is perfect as it seems, as Billy s flaws
lead to his demise. Billy s stutter, as well as his childlike mentality when it comes to aggravated
situations show that while God can create seemingly perfect beings, Satan and evil also have
their say and play a crucial part. Billy s death in the novella can be considered a mirrored image
of Christ s death in the bible. Even their last words bear a sense of forgiveness. Billy s final God
Bless Captain Vere! , (page 86), is very similar to Christ s, Father, forgive them for they know not
what they do. Billy s final exclamation results in a lack of wavering faith and, almost, forgiveness
for Captain Vere s condemning William to death. Additionally, as written in chapter 27, Melville
compares Billy to

What Is The Difference Between AAOIFRS And IFRS
Comparison Between AAOIFI IFRS
Under the economic globalization and the rapid development of Islamic finance in recent years, the
business activities with Islamic countries became a worldwide focus. However, it is notable that the
conventional accounting system would face a challenge with the compliance of Shariah. Therefore,
the Islamic accounting standards AAOIFI were developed due to of the existing problem with the
adoption of the convention accounting standards (IFRS). In this chapter, to illustrate the difference
among IFRS and AAOIFI, the general description of these two accounting standards will be
presented, followed by the distinguishing between the adoption as well as the comparison of some
specific accounting treatments. At the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Besides, the company can issue shares, and hand out the dividends, or issue bonds and pay the
interest; moreover, taking a loan from the bank with interest is an alternative. However, in Islamic
accounting, the interest is not allowed, which prevent the company from raising the fund through
last two options. Thus, the Mudaraba is widely applied in Islamic economies. Mudaraba is a kind of
partnership which one party provides money to a commercial enterprise, and the funds are managed
by a third party based on Mudaraba investment management agreement. For example, the depositor
can authorize the Islamic bank to manage their funds, and get profit from the return on the funds
invested.
For the Mudaraba investment found, AAOIFI standards require presenting the funds in a separate
item between liabilities and equity in the statement of financial position. On the contrary, compliant
with IFRS, the fund will be recorded as liability.

Compare And Contrast Biological And Behavioural...
This essay will outline and compare both biological and behavioural perspectives on human
behaviour. The history, major discoveries and theories will be discussed along with some of the
most influential theorists in each of these two areas of psychology. This essay will also compare
the two areas strengths and weaknesses in the field of psychology.
Biological psychology is the study of how biology affects a number of psychological processes i.e.
how the mind affects the body (Schacter, Gilbert, Wegner Hood 2015). The study of the mind
has had many influential figures throughout history that often use each other s ideas as a
stepping stone to further advance psychology, some of the first being Plato and Aristotle. Plato
believed in nativism and theorised some skills and characteristics are innate and a person is
born with them (Schacter et al, 2015). Aristotle, however, was in favour of philosophical
empiricism i.e. that all knowledge is acquired through experience, yet current scientists do not
consider that nativism and empiricism are entirely accurate (Schacter et al, 2015). Aristotle also
believed that the brain existed to cool the blood, as during that time people were sceptical that
an organ could be responsible for behaviour (Kolb, Whishaw Teskey 2016). The next major
advancement in biological psychology was the introduction of phrenology by Francis Gall, Gall
s theory suggested that all psychological capabilities had a specific place in the brain (Schacter et
al, 2015). This theory later turned out to be correct, although was overshadowed by Gall s
insistence that he could state a person s character dependant on the size of lumps and indentations
on a person s skull, which he thought would represent the size of that brain region beneath
(Schacter et al, 2015). Due to this, in spite of a large following, phrenology was quickly
discredited. Biologist Pierre Flourens, unhappy with Gall s research, began removing localized
areas of the brain in various animals to observe their behaviour (Schacter et al, 2015). Flourens then
found that animal s movements differed to those with intact brains. This mirrored a situation for
surgeon Paul Broca with whom one of his patients had damage to the left side of

The Second Treatise Of Government
In the Second Treatise of Government, Locke explains human beings right of private property as a
natural, enforceable right that men are granted with in the state of Nature as part of his larger
justification of the replacement of the state of Nature by civil governments. The basis of Locke s
interpretation of such right comes from God s ownershipof what God creates, including both
human beings and worldly resources. While human beings ownerships of their bodies are granted
directly through God, Locke laid out 3 main conditions to be sufficed in order to justify private
appropriations of worldly resources. This paper will examine Locke s premises regarding the state
of Nature and his explanations of these conditions, compare them with Rousseau s version of
requirements for private holdings in The Social Contract, and at the same time discuss whether each
condition for private appropriation is sufficient in his effort of justifying unlimited properties.
To begin with, Locke believes that at the state of nature, human beings are given the right of
properties, and private appropriations can occur as long as they fulfill three main criteria. Such
assumption allows Locke to discuss private properties without the interference of other parties,
including civil governments. According to Locke, human beings and their private properties are
protected by nature as God s will to expect human beings to thrive and to develop, also driven by
human beings natural rights of living and

Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol Essay
Driving under the influence of alcohol has been a major issue in America, spanning all the way
back to more than 50 years ago (Raymond). Many accidents are caused from drinking and driving
yearly, resulting in thousands of deaths and injuries involving innocent people. When alcohol is
mixed with driving a motor vehicle, there are no limits to who may be at risk. This means that
drunk drivinghas been harming, hurting and killing many innocent people in America. Over the
years I have witnessed many aftermaths of drunk driving accidents and have heard of multiple
accidents resulting from alcohol use involving people I know, and people I do not know.

done in the past, and what they plan to do in the future. I also wish to show how this affects
society and prove that anyone may be impacted by drunk driving. Drinking and driving needs to
be stopped, and when society comes together as one to tackle a problem such as this, anything is
possible. The only thing left to do is fight this war and observe the outcome.
First and foremost, the legal blood alcohol content while driving in the U.S. is currently at .08%.
This is relatively high compared to many countries. A research article on Science Daily reports
that More than 100 countries around the world have limits set at BAC 0.05 percent or below .
Some may argue that this limit of .08% needs to be reduced, while some see it the other way
around and they agree with this amount. In reality, blood alcohol content is very sensitive in the
fact that just being a small margin above or below .08% can really make a difference regarding
the level of impairment for the drinker. Studies at the University of California conclude that they
find no safe combination of drinking and driving no point at which it is harmless to consume
alcohol and get behind the wheel of a car . Their data from experimentation with intoxicated
drivers also suggests and supports the idea of reducing the legal BAC in

Perception Vs Reality In Paper Towns
Perceived Development vs. Harsh Reality The difference between a story and an impactful story
is the ability to portray a message to an audience. The novel Paper Towns by John Green is an
extremely impactful tale that displays several themes to its readers. However, in converting this
story into film, Margo and Q were unable to receive the proper development they received in the
book and therefore it was detrimental to the theme of Perceptionversus Reality. Q s character on
screen remained very one dimensional and was not able to truly see the reality of Margo Roth
Spiegelman as he does in the book. In a similar way, the movie did not show Margo s real self. It
was distorted by other s perceptions of her. Without these key developments in... Show more content

This took away from the idea Perception versus Reality. In the book, it is discovered that,
despite what everyone thought, Margo was not always out experiencing new and exciting things.
Instead, she went urban exploring with upperclassmen and usually sat alone writing. One
character even said, She seemed pretty depressed actually. (Green 205). This detail gives more
depth to her character and makes Margo seem more real, but it was excluded from the
screenplay. The audience was not able to get a glance of the authentic girl behind the mystery,
which takes away from the theme. At another point in the book, Q and his friends discover a
grimy, asymmetrical Margo, who reacts harshly to their presence in her barn. This moment shows
the reality of Margo, who is just a regular girl, and this shatters most of the amazing, cool
perceptions Q s friends had for her. This is a crucial moment for both Margo s characterization and
Perception versus Reality in the story, but the movie chose to cut it. Without these crucial aspects
of the novel absent from the movie, Margo s character does not seem to evolve and the idea of
Perception against Reality is lost. Margo and Q are both the main focus of the story of Paper Towns
and their lack of depth in the movie version is very disastrous. It lead to a loss of intellectual
appeal, especially for the themes, like, for example, Perception versus Reality. This loss of
characterization and intellect were caused by deliberate changes made in the movie, which is
unfortunate because it could have been prevented. Instead, the movie takes away from the whole
adventure and deeper meaning in the book. This forces Paper Towns into becoming a shallower
and more linear

Symptoms And Treatment Of An Abdominal X Ray Essay
1.CASE STUDY GIVEN
A 24 year old female patient was referred for an abdominal X ray to the diagnostic x ray
department. The patient arrived from the emergency department in a wheel chair with suspected
acute appendicitis. She appears to be in a lot of pain, is on oxygen and has been vomiting. She
speaks English and is accompanied by a nurse, her husband and their 2 year old child.

Effects Of The Sakoku Policy On Japan
Sakoku was the policy introduced to Japan in medieval times. Sakoku translates to a country in
chains or the lock up of a country . This policy proclaimed that no foreigner or Japanese could
enter or leave the country, without the threat of death. The Tokugawa Shogunate, under
Tokugawa Iemitsu, created this policy as well as an array of other edicts and policies to prevent
foreigners and Japanese alike from entering or leaving Japan. These were established and put into
action in 1633 1639 and remained in effect until 1853 when Matthew Perry and the Americans
forced the Japanese rulers to remove these laws. However, these laws did not entirely isolate Japan,

However, there were some unforeseen adverse effects. These effects have influenced and affected
Japan as a nation and culture, enriching the culture and lifestyle that we associate with Japan today.
Japan s isolation allowed them to develop their culture without the influence of other countries or
religions. The economy of Japan also flourished during the Sakoku period. The long period of
stability and peace was central to the economic boom. Moreover, the Japanese culture became
richer because of the sakoku. Without foreign influence, they further developed their own unique
culture. For example, traditional rituals and customs. The Japanese politics were also affected by
the sakoku; the emperor continued to appoint the shoguns to keep his subjects in and foreigners
out. These foreign traders and Christians were not welcomed by authorities. This was because they
were afraid they would cause an uprise in the feudal system. On the other hand, this isolation had a
negative effect because overtaxing and the rice payment continued. Sakoku also adversely affected
the environment; the most noticeable impact was widespread deforestation. Without the ability to
import wood, there was not enough for every person in the country. With an ever growing need for
natural products such as wood, the land was

Impact Of Childhood On British Romantic Poetry
The Impact of Childhood on British Romantic Poetry How did changing ideas in regard to
childhood shape the newly developing Romantic style in poetry and literature? During the 19th
century, the subject of childhood sparked debate among society (Metz). According to popular
Enlightenment thinkers of the age, and a majority of society, youth had been considered as
essentially just smaller versions of adults. That is to say, children were seen as young adults that
simply lacked life experience, but were still mentally and physically capable of dealing with adult
problems and responsibilities. This was eventually brought into question as the Industrial
Revolution was set in full swing and working class children were sent off to make money for their
families (Reynolds). People began to question the ethics of exploiting children as factory workers
that had to be exposed to dangerous, physically taxing, and often traumatizing conditions. At the
same time, a new literary movement was beginning to form. In reaction to the logic, reason, and
lack of emotion brought on by the Enlightenment and Neoclassicism (which was prevalent in
society and literature at the time), the Romantic era began. Romantic writers rejected the ideas of
Enlightenment thinkers and favored emotion and imagination above strict logic and reason. As a
result, many Romantic poets and writers began to question the idea of children and adults being
functionally and emotionally equal to each other. This emerging idea

Looking For Work By Gary Soto Summary
An Analysis of a Young Boy s Subconscious
Although it may not seem like it, we all have witnessed this experience: think one thing, and do
another. For some reason or another we have a subconscious separation between our desires and
needs. While we think we might want something, our subconscious is in the background dictating
our actions behind those desires. Such is the human mind so silently conceited. This is especially
true of young children, for example, more often than not asking a child why they preformed an
action you ll most likely get the age old, I don t know . While it is not always a function that ends
with a positive conclusion, it most certainly does in Gary Soto s Looking For Work. Mr. Soto s

She gave him 20 cents to fetch a Coke from the liquor store, and when he returned she gave him a
nickel. Soto then proceeds to do another job for which he is rewarded with a whole quarter and
two peaches that he proceeds to eat rather sloppily in the alley behind his house. As he finished
the last one, his friend Little John comes by. It was a blistering hot day so Little John suggested
that they head to Roosevelt High School so that they could take a swim to cool off. The problem
was that Little John was short five cents, but Soto quickly lent him his nickel. They began to
board the bike, when Soto s little sister came around a corner crying because she couldn t go.
Now Soto, being the wonderful brother that he is, waved her to climb on to the bike. All three of
them proceeded to spend the rest of the day swimming under the hot afternoon sun until their skin
darkened. The previous is an example of how you may begin with one idea in mind, and end with
a totally different one, seemingly without even being aware of your original intentions. Soto
wanted the money to appear rich in the eyes of those around him, namely the white neighbors that
never seemed to like him. His subconscious reacted and registered this action as one that could
negatively effect him, and overrides his intended outcome. All the money he wanted for showing
off, was spent on a fun day with a friend and his

The Rebirth of Ignatius in The Confederacy of Dunces
You learnt everything, Ignatius, except how to be a human being (375). Chained to a dominant
character who is so vast and yet so embryonic that he is not only protagonist but also, in many
ways, his own antagonist, The Confederacy of Dunces, by John Kennedy Toole, has been called a
broad satirical view of the modern world (Holditch Introduction The Neon Bible xi). Since this
short definition fails to explain that the view presented is primarily that of the slug like character
of Ignatius Jacques Reilly, it also fails to take into account that one s view from the womb is, of
necessity, somewhat limited. Although Ignatius is thirty years old and has a Master s... Show more

his father died. That Ignatius began back pedaling to the safety of his mother s care at this time
is evidenced when he digs through his closet for the overnight bag that his mother had bought

Within a very few years, Ignatius suffers the further trauma of the loss of his dog, Rex, . . .
probably the only thing that . . . [he] had ever really had in his life (378). When Ignatius turned to
the church in his grief, the priest refused to say something over the dog (371), so Ignatius devised
his own funeral service for his beloved pet and rejected a church and its doctrines which had failed
to honor either his grief or the one thing that he had truly loved.
Bereft now of workable religious moorings, Ignatius began to both cling more tightly to, and yet
reject, his mother who was so concerned about what the neighbors would think about his personal
burial service for Rex that she, too, failed to understand the needs of her grief stricken son. Even
during the burial service for Rex, she was screaming out the front door for him to throw the dog in
the garbage can and get in the house (371). Although Irene Reilly, Ignatius mother, is quite

Abercrombie and Fitch and the Moral Degradation of America
This past month I made my last visit to the popular teenage/college student retail store
Abercrombie and Fitch. Finishing up some back to school shopping, I was on a quest for jeans,
and I knew the place to get them. My last two favorite pairs were from Abercrombie and Fitch, and
I was planning on buying the same kind once again. Happy and relieved that I would not spend the
afternoon ransacking the mall for one pair of jeans, I entered the store to the pulsating beat of techno
dance music. In front of me was the teenage Mecca of what is truly hip the first thing I noticed were

Overwhelmed by the stimuli, I set out to find the jeans I wanted as quickly as possible.
Searching through pile and rack, I found Wide leg tomboy , Tomboy flare , and Bootcut tomboy

the store empty handed. It was not so much that I had failed to find my jeans that upset me, but
rather the realization that this store had somehow reached a point where it was controlling the
minds of my fellow young shoppers. The store I had just left seemed to be advertising more than
Tomboy flares and wool V neck sweaters the music, the pictures on the wall, the salespeople they
all set the level of what is cool just a little bit higher, while the customers mindlessly followed.
Then next week I was reading the Star Tribune newspaper when I came across and editorial
written about Abercrombie and Fitch. The author was disgusted with the store because of its
blatant promotion of college age drinking. The issue came up in one of A F s quarterly
magazines . Instead of sending out free catalogs of their merchandise to customers, A F sells a
retail magazine which they distribute four times a year for the small fee of five dollars per issue.

Questions on Innovation Management and iPod Licensing
Innovation Management IPod Licensing Question 1 Innovation management and organisational
characteristics Innovation is one word that is commonly used, but the real meaning of the word
has never been revealed to the masses that use the term almost every day. Now, what is
Innovation? Innovation is the process by which an invention or an idea is transformed into a
tangible good or service, which people can actually pay, or something that is a result of the process.
For an idea to qualify to be an innovation, a replication of an idea must occur at economical cost and
must meet a certain need. Innovation therefore is a purposeful appliance of imagination, initiative
and information in deriving value from resources, it also encompasses all the processes by which
the new ideas are engendered and turned into useful products. In business particularly, innovation
results from the application of a scientific or rather the technical idea that can reduce the gap
between the expectations and the ideas of the consumers and the performance of the companies
products. On the other hand in a social set up, innovation is also important in coming up with new
method such as venturing jointly, creation of alliances, creation of flexible hours of working, and
generally creating the purchasing power of the buyers, through various methods such as the
layaway plans. Innovations are categorised into two broad ways: Evolutionary innovations, this is

Juvenile Delinquency And The Law Of The United States Essay
Definitions of juvenile delinquency vary everywhere you go in the world. The laws change from
country to country and even from state to state. The United States Justice Department defines a
juvenile as a person who has not attained his eighteenth birthday , and juvenile delinquency as the
violation of a law of the United Statescommitted by a person prior to his eighteenth birthday, which
would have been a crimeif committed by an adult (Office). The Justice Department also says, A
person over eighteen but under twenty one years of age is also accorded juvenile treatment if the
act of juvenile delinquencyoccurred prior to his eighteenth birthday (Office). Many states have
lowered the age of a juvenile to seventeen. The way a juvenile has been treated over the years has
changed drastically.
We can trace the first penalties for crime against society, both property and personal, back to
biblical times. The Old Testament is loaded with laws that led to immediate punishments, which
ranged from public shame to death. The Bible was specific to make the punishment fit the
crime. Deuteronomy 21:18 21 tells that if a man has a son that is rebellious, doesn t obey his
father or mother, and will not listen then he should be brought to the elders of the city. The son
will be publically berated, all the men of the city will stone him, and he shall die. The evil would be

A Streetcar Named Desire Essay
The film A Streetcar Named Desire was an original play by Tennessee Williams then was later made
in film form by Elia Kazan. I think A Streetcar Desire Named Desire could be seen as a narrative
because it is based on one of the characters lives, it shares a story about this woman named
Blanche DuBois who was a schoolteacher is now on a search for what comes next in her life, like
where does she go from where she is now? Blanche is trying to find a place where she belongs and
somewhere she can call her own. My expectations from seeing the filmA Streetcar Named Desire, I
expected this to be in depth about Blanche s life that she lives. The plot for the most part does
convey her life and that is good how the author/director was able to portrayed that and I think
that is the most developed part of the plot of this film, and even early on I see some different
things from the play. I think this film told a story of how Blanche went to live with her sister
and she tried to help her sister from her husband. The time that A Streetcar Named Desire was
made since it was filmed in 1951, it was based off the1940s during the time that World War II,
which I think at that time it was a good fit in history. I think that s film had an effect on society
because, I think it shows the effect on how women back then used to get treated by society, in this
time period women were treated unfairly and unjust because of the fact that they were women. A

Analysis Of Sophistication By Sherwood Anderson And...
Both Sophistication by Sherwood Anderson and Running out of Music by Constant Squires use
symbols, conflict and character development to represent the complexity of connection. The
corn field that George Willard views and the time that Nately gives Lucinda music symbolize the
fulfillment that results from being able to depend on others. George Willard takes Helen White
and wanders out into the countryside. Together and in silence, They went along a path past a
field of corn that had not yet been cut. The wind whispered among the dry corn blades
(Anderson 5). Similarly Lucinda walks back towards her house in silence until Nately says, ...so
I don t know if I can get to everything, but I ll try hard. Let s meet here same time two weeks
from today, and I ll give you what I ve got (Squires 16). In order to become tall, a stalk of corn
needs all the other corn in the field to survive. A single stalk of corn is unable to stand by itself.
In a similar manner Lucinda would not be able to grow and mature if she did not have Nately to
bring her music. Nately is like the other corn in field, supporting Lucinda and helping her
mature. If one stalk of corn tried to stand on its own, it would be blown over by the whispered
wind . The whispered wind is similar to Nately sharing music with Lucinda because Nately is not
supposed to see Lucinda, their meeting, two weeks from today , is like a whispered secret
between the two of them. As the whispered wind shares messages through the corn, Nately
shares music with Lucinda. She depends on him to meet her two weeks from today and give her
music. Lucinda depends on Nately in the same way that all the corn stalks in the field depend
on the other corn stalks to grow tall and mature. The corn in the field that George observes and
the set times where Nately gives Lucinda music represent the fulfillment that comes from being
able to rely on others. George s desire to disconnect from his past and Lucinda s desire to
connect to her past represent the struggles of remembrance. George grew up in Winesburg and he
still lives there now. George does not want to reside in Winesburg anymore, He was about to leave
Winesburg to go away to some city where he hoped to get work

John Williams lives in St Leonard s Road and is a weight loss Consultant for Cambridge Weight
Plan.
How long have you lived in West Hove?
I ve lived for many years in West Hove (more than I care to admit); I was born in Brighton and
brought up in South Portslade.
What do you most like about the area?
I like the fact that Hove nestles close to Brighton and remains the quiet neighbour; when I was
younger, we used to go clubbing in both Brighton and Worthing as we were right between the two,
though getting home before night buses existed was always an adventure.
I feel lucky to live between the sea and the South Downs with some fascinating shops in between.
My own neighbourhood in St Leonards Road is vibrant, alive and friendly, and was once described
as being like Downton Abbey meets the Mitchell bros off of Eastenders . ... Show more content on

How Did Bartolome De Las Casas View The Natives
Bartolome de Las Casas was a Spanish colonist and a Dominican friar. His uncles and father
were part of Christopher Columbus second voyage to America. There were rumors of all the
gold, spices and other valuables going around Europe, so the Spanish built small colonies on the
island of Hispaniola. Las Casas in 1502 traveled to the New World to serve as an officer of the
king. He was given a group of Native Americans forced to serve and obey him. However he
released his laborers and spent the rest of his life protecting the Native Americans. Bartolome de
Las Casas view of the Native Americans was quite accurate. Although some of it seemed a bit bias
he was mostly precise when describing them. Las Casas describe the Indians as the most delicate
people, weak and of feeble constitution, and less than any other can they bear fatigue. They were
poor and possessed little but that was the thing, they didn t want to possess anything. They were

They believed the natives were nothing more than savages and were only good enough to be slaves.
Las Casas didn t like this. He said that the Spaniards, with their cruelty and execrable work, have
depopulated and made desolate the great continent. For forty years more than twelve million
persons, men and women and children, have perished unjustly and though tranny by the infernal
deeds and tyranny of the Christians. The only reason why the Spaniards killed and destroyed such
infinite numbers of souls is solely because they have made gold their ultimate aim, seeking to load
themselves with riches in the shortest time. They took everything away from the natives, enslaved
them and killed those who did not obey them. Everything he said about the Spaniards were
completely true. They were just money hungry bullies took advantage of the Indians because the
Indians thought they came from the heavens and refused to harm them. And that is just

Broken Window Theory Research Paper
Broken Windows policing refers to a form of policing that is based upon the broken windows
theory, which serves as a metaphor for disorder within neighborhoods. According to this theory, a
direct relationship exists between levels of disorder/incivility within a community and subsequent
occurences of serious crime; therefore, the greater the disorder, the greater chance of serious crime
offenses occuring, and vice versa. Broken windows policing works in cohesion with this theory to
combat disorder within a neighborhood/community before it manifests into serious crime (ie: fix
the broken window before the entire house becomes neglected or ruined). To do this, foot patrol
was enforced, which, in additon to battling disorder, attempted to improve community engagement,
partnership, and trust.
Broken windows (ie: foot patrol) policing is different from traditional policing in several ways, the
biggest of which is the way that police integrates/communicates with the public. This style of
policing is much more intimate, and allows the police to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Five years after the program implementing this style of policing was enforced, the Police
Foundation in Washington, D.C., published an evaluation of the foot patrol project, showing that
foot patrol had not reduced crime rates. Additionally, the article How A Theory Of Crime And
Policing Was Born, And Went Terribly Wrong, cited that crime rates in New York (where the
broken windows approach had appeared to have been wildly successful) had already been
dropping prior to the implementation of this approach/the election of Guiliani who was in support
of this style of policing. Not only this, but crime dropped not just in New York, but in many other
cities where nothing like broken windows policing was in place, leading me to conclude that the
drop in crime existed separately from the practice of broken windows

Immunizations should be required in the United States School system because they protect
everyone. Ever since vaccines were implemented there has been a decrease in viral infections due to
the fact that vaccines protect individuals from themselves and others. According to vaccines.gov,

Comparing The Media Techniques Used to Present the D Day Landings in the Longest Day and
Saving Private Ryan
The heroism and bravery of those who took part in the D Day has been brought to the big screen
from several perspectives. 1939 1945 were some of the most horrific times in the broad spectrum
of human conflict ever seen by mankind with unmatched weapons of devastation and the senseless
slaughter of millions of lives both on and off the fields of battle. The Longest Day (1962) is a
brilliant rendition of the famous D Day invasion of Normandy. The film is quite accurate, depicting
the perspectives of all sides of the war involved in the event. Multiple viewpoints give the film an
objective feel, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One scene in SPR reinforces how death takes its time. One soldier had his arm blown off, then
stoops down to pick it up. Spielberg has managed to give us a clearer indication of war merely by
using the latest technology available to him.
Camera techniques are imperative to each film. By using different techniques, the director can
create various moods, or change our perception on the whole film. We would expect the techniques
in Saving Private Ryan to be more sophisticated, as it is quite a modern film. The Longest Day is
filmed and edited in a way, which uses the panning shot so it is edited quite slowly. The camera
is placed to show as much action as possible. Zanuck has used the panning and aerial shots to
illustrate a large scale action, without much personal involvement. It is more respectful as it
leaves out much dwelling on physical violence of war where in contrast, Spielberg exposes war
as it is in the sense that there is a high level of violence and death. In the Longest Day, when the
soldiers are running across the beach, the camera moves along with them. The camera also flicks
close up to the allies. The Americans are portrayed as being faultless while the Germans are
revealed as being

The world record small mouth weighed 11 pounds and 15 ounces. Was 27 inches long and 21 2
/3 inches in girth. Most smallmouth range from 10 inches up to 20. Bass over 20 inches are rare
but a lot of fun to catch. A good healthy temperature for small mouth is between 68 and 80
degrees Fahrenheit. Normally bass live between 6 to 14 years, but with perfect conditions a bass
can live up to 20 years. Small mouth like to create nests with their tails in 3 to 8 feet of water,
with sand and small gravel for a bottom. The malewill create and guard the nest. After mating the

Smallmouths have both external fertilization and external development. Feeding for smallmouth
tops when the temperature is around 78 degrees and starts to slow down once the temperature
goes below 40 degrees. The male always guards the eggs and the babies which are known as fry.
The spawning usually occurs in April or May unless the temperature stays cold than it can be
delayed. The first person to describe a smallmouth bass was Lacepede is 1802. The fry hatch out
of their eggs in about a week and then continue to develop for another week. Young smallmouths
are fed upon by yellow perch, Northern pike or muskellunge. Bigger bass are only eaten by
northern pike, musky but the main predators of smallmouth bass are humans. The lifespan in the
wild is normally about seven years, but some will live up to 20 years. In captivity the average
age is ten years. When the young hatch out of their eggs they are about 0.2 inches long, very
easy prey for a variety of animals. Multiple females will spawn in the nest of one male and an
individual female will spawn in more than one. Smallmouth dance and bite each other, this is their
mating ritual. In New York the record smallmouth was 8 pounds, 4 ounces caught out of Lake Erie
on 6/4/1995 by Andrew C Kartesz. Smallmouth bass are beginning to destroy Brooke trout fisheries
and Atlantic salmon fisheries. The meat of a smallmouth is very firm and good tasting so many

Hennessey And Yellich Essay
The Hennessey and Yellich series by author Peter Turnbull is a police procedural that follows
Chief Inspector George Hennessey and his partner Detective Seargent Somerled Yellich.
Hennessey is a widower, whose wife died when their son Charles was a baby. The father and son
lived together in the house and garden that was designed by the wife. Charles grew up to be a
husband, father, and solicitor. Hennessey got a dog, walks to the pub, and reads military history
books. He tells his wife about his day while in the garden, and walks around the town to get places
that he needs to go. Somerled Yellich (his first name is pronounced Sorley) is married happily to
his wife Sara, and they have a son named Jeremy who has down syndrome. He is a happy man,
both at his job and when he is home. The series is a police procedural and it is set in York,
England. The series is also considered cozy as the bodies die off page.... Show more content on

George Hennessey, a Chief Inspector, is working on a case trying to find a missing middle aged
couple named Max and Amanda. They vanished with out a trace recently, leaving behind a
modest home and children that are in adulthood. Hennessey draws the initial conclusion that
there is some foul play here. He is later called out to a crime scene on a local farm where a
shallow grave is found, and in the grave are two bodies. None other then his missing couple. This
is the beginning of things for Detective Inspector Hennessey and the rest of the police squad. One
thing that Hennessey knows for sure is that they were not killed because of a vast sum of money
they had lost a quite sizable chunk of change recently. They were both engaged in affairs that
neither one knew about. What is odd too, is how the son is acting throughout the investigation, and
the cherry on top of the whole thing is that a family secret

Hermaphrodite Fern Experiment
Discussion: Statistical analysis of the experiment shows that the data of the ANOVA single
variable test comparing the means for percentages of male gametophyte density, where no outliers
were present, yielded a p value of 0.00861, which is a p value 0.05, which suggests a possible
relationship between spore density and male sex determination. Therefore, the means can be
described as being significantly different, meaning that we can fail to reject the hypothesis that, if
spore density is elevated, environmental resources will be limited among spores, promoting the
development of male or hermaphrodite ferns with increased levels of ACE, due to their higher self
sufficiency, in comparison to female ferns. However, within this experimental... Show more content

ferns). This process of pheromonal regulation of reproductive traits protects ferns from the harmful
effects of inbreeding, which would reduce genetic variation within the species and create
vulnerabilities within a population. This would lead to a reduction in their numbers, as it has been
studied that the sexual phenotype of gametophytes is heavily influenced by its social environment
(Atallah Banks, 2015). As discussed earlier, disparities between male and female gametophytes
regarding environmental resources, which can be limited with increased spore densities, is critical
in determining sex, which was shown through experimentation conducted by scientists Granger and
Sturey, when studying the effect of antheridiogen concentration and spore size on gametophytes
size in C. ferns. Their experimental results suggest the notion that gender could be directly
influenced by the effect of antheridiogen and gametophyte growth under set environmental
conditions, as well as if predisposed genetic mutations, which could alter the ACE s effect within a
population, are taken into account. Their evidence also suggests that gender can be indirectly
altered concerning other unaccounted for developmental factors, such as the rate at which
gametophyte growth occurred, but more research is required on this matter (Granger Sturey,

Literary Analysis Of The Stranger By Charles Camus
While studying many works of literature, several themes present themselves in in depth readings,
such as the theme of otherness in Albert Camus The Guest . This story centers on a character, an
outsider, who is trying to fit into the society in the story. It may not be the fact that the stranger is
different in looks, culture, or language like it is in this short story, but it is just the fact that they are
not the same, which causes them to be the outsider and fulfill the role of the otherness. As we look
through the short story The Guest , and through the short novel The Stranger , we can see that
Albert Camusis working towards the idea of Otherness and how it can affect societies where the
otherness is seen as undesirable.
Otherness, as defined by Merriam Webster, is the quality or fact of being different. In The Guest
and in The Stranger we are able to see the use of Otherness . The pattern of otherness and trying
to find common ground between the characters is prevalent in Camus works set in Algerian
French control. Daru and the prisoner are the complete opposites of each other culturally,
linguistically, and ethnically; they are set up to be each other s other from the beginning, and yet,
they seem to be able to find some kind of common ground. I am interested in why Camus made it
so that these two men, who are strangers in the beginning, can be seen as comrades near the
ending. I will compare these two works by Camus and find out the purpose of his

Napoleon s Greed and Ambition Essay
Napoleon Bonaparte was historically not only the powerful invader but also the ambitious king.
Napoleon made various works that effected France and the other country significantly,
conquering almost of countries in Europe. Almost people in France praised Napoleon when he
won in any war or any invasion. From successful occupation, people started to consider Napoleon
as a god of the war and large numbers of people followed his order. Napoleon seems as the
greatest emperor in the world. However, Napoleon was only concerned on his greed and ambition,
which made questionable political decision and poor military decisions, changing him as an
outcast. Having the highest spot in Europe, Napoleon changed to be arrogant and be rude himself.

At first, he was not concerned on the national problems because he was too tired and needed
relaxation with his family. However, later, he found that France was becoming ruined and
decided to make the coup against parliament. Lucien Bonaparte, a younger brother of Napoleon
Bonaparte, made Napoleon the offer to become one of three governing consuls, but Napoleon
rejected. He wanted to take the throne of France. Napoleon had his own greed that wanted to be
popular and did not prefer people to forget his victories by uncompleted invasion, Although he had
been given a hero s welcome by the populace he knew that this type of fame was fleeting, and he
also recognized that recent French military victories in Holland and Switzerland had somewhat
tarnished his own unfinished effort in Egypt. When he made the coup against parliament, Napoleon
mentioned the true liberty and the republic. He then transported his spirited oratory to the beautiful
gardens and the waiting troops with whose aid the republic would be established. Napoleon called
his troops for coup, saying that the real republic finally established. However, people did not
consider this action as the republic. One deputy said And the Constitution? You already destroyed
the Constitution when you violated it. No one respects it anymore, and the other people said Down
with the tyrant. From the successful coup, Napoleon took the most authority in France, but present
a bad image . In May 1804, congress

  • 2. The Angel Of Death Research Paper The Angel of Death The Nazi party rose to power in 1933 under the leadership of Adolf Hitler, and would soon unleash a reign of terror and death upon Europe. However, Hitler was not directly responsible for all of the terror to ensue; there were many Nazi followers and soldiers who committed unspeakable crimes of war and other atrocious acts even as far as crimes against humanity. One such man was Dr. Josef Mengele. Mengele was born March 16th, 1911 in GГјnzburg, Germany. He received his Ph. D. in physical anthropology in 1935, when he was 24 from the University of Munich. A few years later, in 1937 he was the assistant to Dr. Otmar von Vercheur who was famous for his research on twins. In 1945, Mengele fled Germany. He was caught by US soldiers who later released him, not realizing who exactly he was. Mengele was never found alive again. It was said that after he escaped, he befriended a Nazi supporter in Brazil named Wolfgang Gerhard, who hid Mengele for years and even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is hard to imagine someone able to do such horrible things to a person and be able to calmly walk them to their deaths as if it was nothing. Like the Nazi system Mengele was able to let people believe in a false sense of security, thinking they had the system, and Mengele s intentions figured out while they were unknowingly being led to their demise. Josef Mengele was a revered scholar and one of the most infamous members of the Nazi party known of today, especially through the crimes against humanity he committed from his work with experimentation and torture on twins and many others. In most pictures found of Mengele he is showing off his gap toothed smile, but behind that smile is the terrible Angel of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fig. 1 Distribution of Egretta thula throughout North and South America based on seasons. Habitat Snowy egrets inhabit marshes, ponds, swamps, and mudflats (Bull Farrand). Since snowy egrets are wading birds, like other herons and egrets, they prefer habitats that are close to water. Wading birds breed and build their nests in close proximity to water, allowing them to have access to food while raising their young. In North America, the snowy egret s favorite habitats include salt marshes, shallow bays, and mangroves. Snowy egrets prefer similar habitats throughout South and Central America and the Caribbean (Weslosky, 2002). Conservation Biology Life cycle and reproduction Breeding colonies, sometimes of multiple different species, form on islands surrounded by water or guarded by a vegetative buffer. Such features are presumed to be desirable due to the protection they provide from predators on the ground (Frederick, 2002). Nests are often built using sticks, reeds, and other vegetation and constructed in trees, shrubs, or other aquatic vegetation (Elphick, 2014). A clutch consists of 3 5 eggs, a pale blue green in color, laid in a nest located in a bush or reedbed, specific to the species of egret (Bull Farrand, 1994). Breeding season begins in March or early April and males will perform both flight and vocal displays to attract females. Snowy egrets are social nesters

  • 5. Apologization Of Apology An apology is an admission that you have done something wrong and regret doing so. It can be difficult to admit that you have made a mistake. You have to let go of any defensiveness and ego and refrain from backtracking. No one likes the complicated, defeated feelings that come from being wrong. Apologizing requires humility and the willingness to place the needs of those you have wrong above your own. It is imperative that you specify whether you are really sorry for your actions or if you are only sorry that you were caught. With that said, I once had to apologize for making fun of a friend s weight without realizing the effect that it would have on her. Before apologizing, I first had to specifically recount what I was sorry for and acknowledge ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Make Me Like A Well Watered Garden MAKE ME LIKE A WELL WATERED GARDEN It was the spring of 1980. My husband Ken and I had been in our first pastorate in the San Joaquin Valley of California, known as the nation s Garden Spot , for almost a year. During the summer of 79, several of our church members had generously shared with us the fruits of their labors in their gardens and it seemed that everyone had a garden. Thus, when the spring of 1980 arrived, I, who never liked working in the dirt; I, who would rather wash, starch and iron shirts than dig in a flower bed or weed a garden, decided we should have a vegetable garden. The former pastor had two BIG ONES so surely, with the help of my pastor husband, who was reared on the farm, we could have a lovely garden that would produce enough vegetables to feed us through what Californians refer to as winter. Being the submissive wife that I was, I asked Ken what I needed to do first. He borrowed a tiller (whatever that is) and began to prepare the soil for seeding. All the weeds were cleared away, so that nothing was left but beautiful rich, brown dirt. Then he made these little indentations, called furrows, down through the freshly plowed dirt and smoothed it all out to perfection. Then I had to do the REAL work I dropped the seeds in those little furrows. He came along behind me, covered the seeds with dirt, patted it down just so, and then watered the entire plot. I was so proud! I had planted a garden! About three days later I said to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Directed by Francis Ford Copolla, this intriguing courtroom drama reveals the ordeals of a young lawyer and associate entering the realm of unscrupulous money hungry company s scams. They were totally unqualified to try the case of a life time, but every underdog has his day . To become a Rainmaker is Rudy Baylor s (Matt Damon) ambition, to try the case of a lifetime and make the big bucks fall from the sky. Another setting quite effectively featured is St. Peter s hospital, housing battered Riker. Entering the dim and gloomy cafeteria, contrasting the brightly lit, disinfected, starched white walls of the hospital rooms and hallways, gives the viewer a peek inside Riker s world of pain, confusion and poorly administered bandages. The courtroom, where most of the action takes place, is the epitome of law and order. The squeaky clean marble floors and polished wooden beams display the tradition of the courtroom and the importance of all which takes place in this setting. Other settings also lend credit to the film, the tackiness of Bruiser Stone s office, the peace and beauty represented at the jewellry store where Riker is employed amidst visits to the hospital, and the dark and secretive cinema, where Baylor and Riker share a tender moment. All settings are effectively and appropriately chosen and are very apt in relevance to the storyline of the film. The storyline is one of the most crucial parts of a successful film, though the actors who portray their characters realistically are the absolute essence of the production. • 10. A Task Force A task force was formed to examine issues surrounding null hypothesis significance testing and the publication of research studies regarding these results. As a result of this task force, recommendations were made to revise statistical sections of the APA publication manual. But before these revisions were implemented, the Board of Scientific Affairs (BSA) recommended to initiate discussion of these changes, the task force publish an article in American Psychologist, hence this article. I will break down these suggestions in methods, results and discussion. METHODS It is important in the design portion that the researcher is very clear and concise on the type of study they are conducting, and making it clear if there are multiple goals. By making the design section clear and concise, there is no question on what the researchers are trying to accomplish and what their goals are. Defining a population is critical to any conclusions in an article. The definition of the population, including any control groups, of the study must be clear and concise, including the characteristics, which can affect the interpretation of the data. Within the population we have the sample, the procedures of which need to be clear and concise as well, including all relevant information. If the data is clustered or stratified, as opposed to random samples, we must include that information as it will affect interval estimates. Sample size can be critical to the results of a study, to it is important ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Five Motivation Theories In today s working stressful environment, motivation is necessary for more productivity. Motivation is considered as force to achieve specific goals. In an organization a manager or leader should always motivate his/her subordinates to perform work. There are number of motivational theories given by social scientist. But we will focus on the five main theories which are given below: Hertzberg s two factor theory Maslow s hierarchy of needs Hawthorne effect Expectancy theory Three dimensional theory of attribution I will explain these theories in detail and how they can be implemented in work environment. Hertzberg s two factor theory this theory is also known as dual factor theory or motivation hygiene theory. In 1950, psychologist Frederick Hertzberg developed motivational theory. After the research among various employees, Hertzberg found that below two factor influence employees satisfaction and motivation: Motivational factors: these factors increase satisfaction and motivation among employees. Some of these factors are promotion, recognition of work and enjoying the work. As I mentioned these factors increase satisfaction and motivation, but their absence does not create dissatisfaction among employees. Hygiene factors: In the absence of these factors, employees don t feel motivated and satisfied. Examples of these factors are relationship with managers and co workers, salary, benefits, company policies. Implementation in workplace for the motivated and satisfied ... • 12. Postmodern Views On The State Postmodern Views on the State Many societies have experienced post modernization as the de centralization of society, politics, and economy as well as the decline of the various dominant modernization paradigms, which structured industrial society both formally and informally in the past decades (Best and Kellner 1997; Drake 2010). In social are, for example, the ethnic or cultural bases of many nationalities have started to dissolve and societies have become more multiethnic, multicultural, fragmented and melting pots of various hybrid postmodern identities (Jessop 2015:157). In political era, scholars have advanced the end of ideology thesis during the end of the 1980s and especially with the collapse of the Soviet Communist Bloc. The liberalism, individualism, post modernist discourses were triumphant and announcing the dawn of a new era in which early ideological conflicts would disappear as a source of political conflict on the global scale (Fukuyama 1993). In economy field, at the start of the twenty first century, almost everyone can realize the significance of economy not just in deciding elections but also in shaping the broader processes of the state. Scholars also argue that we are now living in an age of pocket book politics , which means that with the decline of traditional political ideologies, narrowly conceived economic self interest has been the overwhelming driving force of the political processes (Pierson 2011:81). • 13. Toxic Masculinity In Lord Of The Flies Within Lord of the Flies, we see firsthand the violence and destruction that lies within humanity, and boys in particular. Without society, they fell apart. They committed atrocities that go against every rule, every social expectation, we see in humanity. Although Lord of the Flies shows important ideas about boys place in society, it also allows the reader to form damaging views on ideas such as death, violence, and conflict. When you hear the phrase toxic masculinity , it s usually used as a joke. However, there s a reason that it s a concept. Toxic masculinity is a social science term used to describe the phenomenon within a society where masculine traits, such as anger, violence, egotism, contempt, aggression, as well as showing destructive or apathetic behavior, are rewarded. Normally, these traits are regulated by law and society. When the boys are taken out of society, however, they have no restraints, leading to the boys relying on these traits. In their minds, aggression and violence are good; however, a successful society cannot be made from violence. Even societies such as Sparta valued other traits: honesty, ambition, diligence, duty, strength, loyalty, and bravery. It wasn t just violence; instead, they created a community of us against them , which may have lead to violence, but it wasn t the founding value. In battle, they were told to come back with their shield or on it, which shows the braveryneeded to be a warrior and loyalty to the state. Mandatory education and martial training emphasized duty and diligence. The boys had none of this. Their society was built on violence, aggression, and disorder, with a survival of the fittest mentality. Of course, the way we raise boys isn t going to lead to a healthy society. The characteristics we instill in male adolescents do nothing to contribute to a positive society, and without order and regulations, these characteristics create the oppositeof a positive society. They create a breeding ground for anarchy, chaos, and brutality, even to the point of sadism. Golding is trying to use this story to tell society that we can t afford to promote such traits, that cruelty will only cause problems, that aggression will never lead to a ... Philippines Research Paper 30,000 years ago, it is believed that the Negritos have migrated to the Philippines from Borneo, Sumatra, and Malaya. Following that, the Malayans followed in successive waves. The Malayan culture has survived to this day among certain groups such as the Igorots. The later Malayan tribes that came had more highly developed cultures. In the 14th century, Arab traders introduced Islam to the islands and extended their influence. In 1521, the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan led an expedition around the world, and one of his resting points was in the Philippines. After World War II, Manuel Roxas became the first president of the Republic of the Philippines when independence was granted, as scheduled, on July 4, 1946 from the United States. As time went along, the Philippines had more presidents after Roxas, including Elpidio Quirino, Ramon Magsaysay, Carlos P. GarcГa, and Diosdado Macapagal, all who served 4 year terms. Then, the president after Macapagal, Ferdinand E. Marcos, served as president from 1965 to 1986. During this time, government corruption and civil disorder increased. After a series of fraud attempts in the 1986 elections, Marcos lost his support and Corazon Aquino became president. • 16. Analysis Of Billy Budd By Herman Melville The novella Billy Budd by Herman Melville is a 1924 sea story that has underlying allusions to Christ and the bible as pointed out by many critics. Many have found that Billy s life resembles the plight of Christ, as well as Adam, while Captain Vere is meant to stand as God, and Claggart is left as the role of Satan. These underlying character molds ultimately contribute to the novella as a whole and explore the dilemmas of their Biblecounterparts. William Billy Budd has been described as a Christ like character. His physical appearance remains to be a focus throughout, and his perfection is, ultimately, what attracts all the sailors to him. Billy has an innocence to him that many on the ship have lost. However, nothing is perfect as it seems, as Billy s flaws lead to his demise. Billy s stutter, as well as his childlike mentality when it comes to aggravated situations show that while God can create seemingly perfect beings, Satan and evil also have their say and play a crucial part. Billy s death in the novella can be considered a mirrored image of Christ s death in the bible. Even their last words bear a sense of forgiveness. Billy s final God Bless Captain Vere! , (page 86), is very similar to Christ s, Father, forgive them for they know not what they do. Billy s final exclamation results in a lack of wavering faith and, almost, forgiveness for Captain Vere s condemning William to death. Additionally, as written in chapter 27, Melville compares Billy to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Compare And Contrast Biological And Behavioural... This essay will outline and compare both biological and behavioural perspectives on human behaviour. The history, major discoveries and theories will be discussed along with some of the most influential theorists in each of these two areas of psychology. This essay will also compare the two areas strengths and weaknesses in the field of psychology. Biological psychology is the study of how biology affects a number of psychological processes i.e. how the mind affects the body (Schacter, Gilbert, Wegner Hood 2015). The study of the mind has had many influential figures throughout history that often use each other s ideas as a stepping stone to further advance psychology, some of the first being Plato and Aristotle. Plato believed in nativism and theorised some skills and characteristics are innate and a person is born with them (Schacter et al, 2015). Aristotle, however, was in favour of philosophical empiricism i.e. that all knowledge is acquired through experience, yet current scientists do not consider that nativism and empiricism are entirely accurate (Schacter et al, 2015). Aristotle also believed that the brain existed to cool the blood, as during that time people were sceptical that an organ could be responsible for behaviour (Kolb, Whishaw Teskey 2016). The next major advancement in biological psychology was the introduction of phrenology by Francis Gall, Gall s theory suggested that all psychological capabilities had a specific place in the brain (Schacter et al, 2015). This theory later turned out to be correct, although was overshadowed by Gall s insistence that he could state a person s character dependant on the size of lumps and indentations on a person s skull, which he thought would represent the size of that brain region beneath (Schacter et al, 2015). Due to this, in spite of a large following, phrenology was quickly discredited. Biologist Pierre Flourens, unhappy with Gall s research, began removing localized areas of the brain in various animals to observe their behaviour (Schacter et al, 2015). Flourens then found that animal s movements differed to those with intact brains. This mirrored a situation for surgeon Paul Broca with whom one of his patients had damage to the left side of ... • 20. The Second Treatise Of Government In the Second Treatise of Government, Locke explains human beings right of private property as a natural, enforceable right that men are granted with in the state of Nature as part of his larger justification of the replacement of the state of Nature by civil governments. The basis of Locke s interpretation of such right comes from God s ownershipof what God creates, including both human beings and worldly resources. While human beings ownerships of their bodies are granted directly through God, Locke laid out 3 main conditions to be sufficed in order to justify private appropriations of worldly resources. This paper will examine Locke s premises regarding the state of Nature and his explanations of these conditions, compare them with Rousseau s version of requirements for private holdings in The Social Contract, and at the same time discuss whether each condition for private appropriation is sufficient in his effort of justifying unlimited properties. To begin with, Locke believes that at the state of nature, human beings are given the right of properties, and private appropriations can occur as long as they fulfill three main criteria. Such assumption allows Locke to discuss private properties without the interference of other parties, including civil governments. According to Locke, human beings and their private properties are protected by nature as God s will to expect human beings to thrive and to develop, also driven by human beings natural rights of living and ... Drinking and driving needs to be stopped, and when society comes together as one to tackle a problem such as this, anything is possible. The only thing left to do is fight this war and observe the outcome. First and foremost, the legal blood alcohol content while driving in the U.S. is currently at .08%. This is relatively high compared to many countries. A research article on Science Daily reports that More than 100 countries around the world have limits set at BAC 0.05 percent or below . Some may argue that this limit of .08% needs to be reduced, while some see it the other way around and they agree with this amount. In reality, blood alcohol content is very sensitive in the fact that just being a small margin above or below .08% can really make a difference regarding the level of impairment for the drinker. Studies at the University of California conclude that they find no safe combination of drinking and driving no point at which it is harmless to consume alcohol and get behind the wheel of a car . The novel Paper Towns by John Green is an extremely impactful tale that displays several themes to its readers. However, in converting this story into film, Margo and Q were unable to receive the proper development they received in the book and therefore it was detrimental to the theme of Perceptionversus Reality. Instead, she went urban exploring with upperclassmen and usually sat alone writing. One character even said, She seemed pretty depressed actually. (Green 205). This detail gives more depth to her character and makes Margo seem more real, but it was excluded from the screenplay. The audience was not able to get a glance of the authentic girl behind the mystery, which takes away from the theme. At another point in the book, Q and his friends discover a grimy, asymmetrical Margo, who reacts harshly to their presence in her barn. This moment shows the reality of Margo, who is just a regular girl, and this shatters most of the amazing, cool perceptions Q s friends had for her. This is a crucial moment for both Margo s characterization and Perception versus Reality in the story, but the movie chose to cut it. Without these crucial aspects of the novel absent from the movie, Margo s character does not seem to evolve and the idea of Perception against Reality is lost. Margo and Q are both the main focus of the story of Paper Towns and their lack of depth in the movie version is very disastrous. It lead to a loss of intellectual appeal, especially for the themes, like, for example, Perception versus Reality. This loss of characterization and intellect were caused by deliberate changes made in the movie, which is unfortunate because it could have been prevented. • 27. Impact Of Childhood On British Romantic Poetry The Impact of Childhood on British Romantic Poetry How did changing ideas in regard to childhood shape the newly developing Romantic style in poetry and literature? During the 19th century, the subject of childhood sparked debate among society (Metz). According to popular Enlightenment thinkers of the age, and a majority of society, youth had been considered as essentially just smaller versions of adults. That is to say, children were seen as young adults that simply lacked life experience, but were still mentally and physically capable of dealing with adult problems and responsibilities. This was eventually brought into question as the Industrial Revolution was set in full swing and working class children were sent off to make money for their families (Reynolds). People began to question the ethics of exploiting children as factory workers that had to be exposed to dangerous, physically taxing, and often traumatizing conditions. At the same time, a new literary movement was beginning to form. In reaction to the logic, reason, and lack of emotion brought on by the Enlightenment and Neoclassicism (which was prevalent in society and literature at the time), the Romantic era began. Romantic writers rejected the ideas of Enlightenment thinkers and favored emotion and imagination above strict logic and reason. As a result, many Romantic poets and writers began to question the idea of children and adults being functionally and emotionally equal to each other. This emerging idea ... Questions on Innovation Management and iPod Licensing Innovation Management IPod Licensing Question 1 Innovation management and organisational characteristics Innovation is one word that is commonly used, but the real meaning of the word has never been revealed to the masses that use the term almost every day. Now, what is Innovation? Innovation is the process by which an invention or an idea is transformed into a tangible good or service, which people can actually pay, or something that is a result of the process. For an idea to qualify to be an innovation, a replication of an idea must occur at economical cost and must meet a certain need. Innovation therefore is a purposeful appliance of imagination, initiative and information in deriving value from resources, it also encompasses all the processes by which the new ideas are engendered and turned into useful products. In business particularly, innovation results from the application of a scientific or rather the technical idea that can reduce the gap between the expectations and the ideas of the consumers and the performance of the companies products. • 36. A Streetcar Named Desire Essay The film A Streetcar Named Desire was an original play by Tennessee Williams then was later made in film form by Elia Kazan. I think A Streetcar Desire Named Desire could be seen as a narrative because it is based on one of the characters lives, it shares a story about this woman named Blanche DuBois who was a schoolteacher is now on a search for what comes next in her life, like where does she go from where she is now? Blanche is trying to find a place where she belongs and somewhere she can call her own. My expectations from seeing the filmA Streetcar Named Desire, I expected this to be in depth about Blanche s life that she lives. The plot for the most part does convey her life and that is good how the author/director was able to portrayed that and I think that is the most developed part of the plot of this film, and even early on I see some different things from the play. I think this film told a story of how Blanche went to live with her sister and she tried to help her sister from her husband. The time that A Streetcar Named Desire was made since it was filmed in 1951, it was based off the1940s during the time that World War II, which I think at that time it was a good fit in history. I think that s film had an effect on society because, I think it shows the effect on how women back then used to get treated by society, in this time period women were treated unfairly and unjust because of the fact that they were women. • 40. Analysis Of Sophistication By Sherwood Anderson And... Both Sophistication by Sherwood Anderson and Running out of Music by Constant Squires use symbols, conflict and character development to represent the complexity of connection. The corn field that George Willard views and the time that Nately gives Lucinda music symbolize the fulfillment that results from being able to depend on others. George Willard takes Helen White and wanders out into the countryside. Together and in silence, They went along a path past a field of corn that had not yet been cut. The wind whispered among the dry corn blades (Anderson 5). Similarly Lucinda walks back towards her house in silence until Nately says, ...so I don t know if I can get to everything, but I ll try hard. Let s meet here same time two weeks from today, and I ll give you what I ve got (Squires 16). In order to become tall, a stalk of corn needs all the other corn in the field to survive. A single stalk of corn is unable to stand by itself. In a similar manner Lucinda would not be able to grow and mature if she did not have Nately to bring her music. Nately is like the other corn in field, supporting Lucinda and helping her mature. If one stalk of corn tried to stand on its own, it would be blown over by the whispered wind . The whispered wind is similar to Nately sharing music with Lucinda because Nately is not supposed to see Lucinda, their meeting, two weeks from today , is like a whispered secret between the two of them. As the whispered wind shares messages through the corn, Nately shares music with Lucinda. She depends on him to meet her two weeks from today and give her music. Lucinda depends on Nately in the same way that all the corn stalks in the field depend on the other corn stalks to grow tall and mature. The corn in the field that George observes and the set times where Nately gives Lucinda music represent the fulfillment that comes from being able to rely on others. George s desire to disconnect from his past and Lucinda s desire to connect to her past represent the struggles of remembrance. George grew up in Winesburg and he still lives there now. His uncles and father were part of Christopher Columbus second voyage to America. There were rumors of all the gold, spices and other valuables going around Europe, so the Spanish built small colonies on the island of Hispaniola. Las Casas in 1502 traveled to the New World to serve as an officer of the king. He was given a group of Native Americans forced to serve and obey him. However he released his laborers and spent the rest of his life protecting the Native Americans. Bartolome de Las Casas view of the Native Americans was quite accurate. • 44. Broken Window Theory Research Paper Broken Windows policing refers to a form of policing that is based upon the broken windows theory, which serves as a metaphor for disorder within neighborhoods. According to this theory, a direct relationship exists between levels of disorder/incivility within a community and subsequent occurences of serious crime; therefore, the greater the disorder, the greater chance of serious crime offenses occuring, and vice versa. Broken windows policing works in cohesion with this theory to combat disorder within a neighborhood/community before it manifests into serious crime (ie: fix the broken window before the entire house becomes neglected or ruined). To do this, foot patrol was enforced, which, in additon to battling disorder, attempted to improve community engagement, partnership, and trust. Broken windows (ie: foot patrol) policing is different from traditional policing in several ways, the biggest of which is the way that police integrates/communicates with the public. This style of policing is much more intimate, and allows the police to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hermaphrodite Fern Experiment Discussion: Statistical analysis of the experiment shows that the data of the ANOVA single variable test comparing the means for percentages of male gametophyte density, where no outliers were present, yielded a p value of 0.00861, which is a p value 0.05, which suggests a possible relationship between spore density and male sex determination. Therefore, the means can be described as being significantly different, meaning that we can fail to reject the hypothesis that, if spore density is elevated, environmental resources will be limited among spores, promoting the development of male or hermaphrodite ferns with increased levels of ACE, due to their higher self sufficiency, in comparison to female ferns. However, within this experimental... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... ferns). This process of pheromonal regulation of reproductive traits protects ferns from the harmful effects of inbreeding, which would reduce genetic variation within the species and create vulnerabilities within a population. This would lead to a reduction in their numbers, as it has been studied that the sexual phenotype of gametophytes is heavily influenced by its social environment (Atallah Banks, 2015). As discussed earlier, disparities between male and female gametophytes regarding environmental resources, which can be limited with increased spore densities, is critical in determining sex, which was shown through experimentation conducted by scientists Granger and Sturey, when studying the effect of antheridiogen concentration and spore size on gametophytes size in C. ferns. Their experimental results suggest the notion that gender could be directly influenced by the effect of antheridiogen and gametophyte growth under set environmental conditions, as well as if predisposed genetic mutations, which could alter the ACE s effect within a population, are taken into account. Their evidence also suggests that gender can be indirectly altered concerning other unaccounted for developmental factors, such as the rate at which gametophyte growth occurred, but more research is required on this matter (Granger Sturey, ... • 50. Literary Analysis Of The Stranger By Charles Camus While studying many works of literature, several themes present themselves in in depth readings, such as the theme of otherness in Albert Camus The Guest . This story centers on a character, an outsider, who is trying to fit into the society in the story. It may not be the fact that the stranger is different in looks, culture, or language like it is in this short story, but it is just the fact that they are not the same, which causes them to be the outsider and fulfill the role of the otherness. As we look through the short story The Guest , and through the short novel The Stranger , we can see that Albert Camusis working towards the idea of Otherness and how it can affect societies where the otherness is seen as undesirable. Otherness, as defined by Merriam Webster, is the quality or fact of being different. In The Guest and in The Stranger we are able to see the use of Otherness . The pattern of otherness and trying to find common ground between the characters is prevalent in Camus works set in Algerian French control. Daru and the prisoner are the complete opposites of each other culturally, linguistically, and ethnically; they are set up to be each other s other from the beginning, and yet, they seem to be able to find some kind of common ground.
