1. In terms of films influencing our decision to devise a film
based around a detective, we decided to base our film off a
multitude of different of different crime-triller films as well as
television shows. Such as; True Detective, China Town as
well as Memento. Despite Memento not truly being a crime-
thriller in which there is a main detective character, we thought
that we would chose this film to pluck aspects of the neo-noir
genre, since we were aiming for that genre as well as the
crime-thriller genre when devising our film opening. True
Detective played a massive role in the influential process of
devising our film since we truly wanted to create a piece
similar to what we have seen in True Detective. We tried our
best to base our character as close as we could to the
character seen in the television show, we did this through
costume, props as well as the characters personality.

2. Similar to a massive hollywood blockbuster. I created several
institutional companies, those being; Teepee Studios as well as
Eclipse Pictures. I decided that both of these companies were to be
production companies, so they were in charge or distribution,
marketing, the final production of the film. Similar to a big six
company such as: 20th Century Fox, the company in which I carried
out some thorough research on in order to possibly mimic some of
the companies attributes when devising my own company due to the
massive success of 20th Century Fox.

3. When it came to designing the costume our actor (myself) was going to
wear on the day of filming, we truly just based our costume on that of
Rust Cohle, the main character in True Detective. Throughout the
television drama, you can see the character wearing a handful of white
shirts and work trousers paired with basic black work shoes. This is how
we wanted to approach our character when styling him since we saw
the success from True Detective and we wanted our film to succeed as
if it was a big blockbuster. So we mimicked the costume design from
this particular show. As you can see in the images down below, we tried
our best to style our character to match Rust Cohle from True Detective
with the whole, creased shirt and loose tie look.

4. To keep the genre of noir film thriving, we decided to
approach our film titles with a sheer amount of
simplicity to show respect for the slowly dying genre.
We thought it best to keep our titles clean and precise
to minimise confusion for our audience. We decided to
go for a typewriter like font to once again enforce this
idea of slight noir film into our opening the remind the
audience of the whole detective aspect of the film.

5. In terms of keeping our audience on the edge of their
seats only at the opening of the film. Jordan and I
thought it best to use somewhat dramatic music. We
ended up using quite over the top music in which
portrayed our opening as somewhat of a film trailer.
Similar to the popular television drama: SouthLand,
the music in that opening sequence is rather dramatic
to draw the audience into the hectic world of an LA
cop. We wanted to portray a similar concept when it
came to the sound of our opening which is one of the
reason why we chose to se the dramatic music instead
of bland, uneventful sound/music.

6. In terms of lighting, we took a lot of inspiration from the neo-noir film Fight
Club. We decided to base our lighting techniques off this film since we saw
them as very gritty and unedited which added to the neo-noir theme of the
film. The grittiness and darkness of the lighting seen in Fight Club makes for a
brilliant atmosphere, since it draws the audience into the film world and makes
them want to delve deeper into the film and continue watching. In order to
achieve this grit in terms of lighting, I had to add a slight bit of colour
correction to our film in the post production stages. But we also decided to use
natural lighting as well as lighting that was already set up (desk lamps, ceiling
lighting) instead of setting up studio lights to add an aspect of naturalism as
well as grit to our film.
