 Assessment
Overview
 My teaching method will be to use a student center
learning classroom by dividing the students into
learning teams. These learning teams will give
students the opportunity to learn through diversity and
collaboration while students complete units in
volleyball, tennis, soccer, basketball, pickle ball,
ultimate Frisbee, softball and football. Students will
also be participating in fitness activities to improve their
overall health. Included is an example of student
centered learning during a volleyball unit in my
classroom.
Goals
 Students will collaborate in learning
 Students will develop leadership
 Students will increase their knowledge and skill
in the unit of Volleyball
Objectives
 Students will effectively lead drills and teams
 Students will effectively work together to score a point
with the pass, set and spike method
 Students will analyze how to keep score and properly
rotate
 Students will demonstrate leadership during peer skill
instruction and team activities
 Students will gain knowledge of volleyball rules
How is Learning Impacted?
 Learning is impacted through the student centered
classroom as teachers and students collaborate and
develop relationships that are challenging, relevant to the
student’s lives and can be connected to real life situations.
Students are assessed on their mastery of content,
knowledge and skills. The students have many
opportunities to demonstrate what they have learned. As
the expert learner, the teacher supports the learning
environment by providing opportunities for reflection,
collaboration, and leadership. A student centered learning
environment allows students to develop the skills to succeed
in life.
Articulation
 Vertical possibilities – Expert learner (teacher) will
provide knowledge of volleyball, demonstrate correct
techniques of skills, and will provide tools to the student
captains to share with their learning teams. Teacher
will provide equipment needed to complete all the task.
Expert will monitor and provide feedback to the
students, and participate in class safety.
Articulation
 Horizontal possibilities – Students will collaborate to
complete a common goal (Example – working to score
a point using the three hit method of pass, set, spike.)
Students will experience leadership opportunities as
captains of a team for each unit. Leadership will
involve organizing the team folders, completing
attendance, teaching a skill, and keeping records of
completed team activities.
Special Considerations
 Rainy days – Gym space becomes over crowded when
classes assigned to outside spaces must come inside.
Teacher needs to have a back up lesson plan for the
limited space days.
 Special needs students – Are there students in the
class that have special needs.
Professional Development
 SPARK curriculum and work shops that provide great
ideas for class collaboration.
 Observe master teachers
 Join a PLC (Professional Learning Community)
Assessment
 Pre assessment completed by students to provide a
baseline of skill level (skill test).
 Reflection journals of learning
 Written Quiz on Rules of the game
 Post assessment completed by students to test
volleyball skill (skill test).
 Teams evaluate each other in collaboration, leadership,
team work and skill improvement.
