Presentation Inspiration KineticFuture: Leadership Communications Coaching               5194300-407670<br />Meaning Matters<br />One of the young mums in our village was involved in a road accident.  A young girl of 18 was hit by a speeding lorry as she walked on the wrong side of the road.  Jane had to give first aid to the girl and call the ambulance.  She’s a shy lady with two sons and crosses the same road with her dogs.  Miraculously the girl lived.<br />The incident also transformed Jane into an excellent communicator and presenter.<br />Jane began a campaign to change the speed limit.  She started a petition and galvanised the local community.  She lobbied the local councilors.  She stood up and spoke at the local council meeting.  She became a mini celebrity in the local media.  The speed limit was changed.<br />The point of this story is that if you believe that what you are communicating is important you will communicate with power.  What people buy into is not “slick” presenters but people who are authentic, who have a clear vision, who really believe that what they are doing is important and will help the audience.  When we analysed what makes a phenomenal communicator to develop our coaching model this is one of the four stand out factors that make the “greats” great.<br />If you work in an area which is your passion, you are lucky.  Work out a clear message, keep believing and don’t be afraid to let that belief shine through.<br />But let’s face it many of us have to talk about things which we feel are quite routine.  Well, you’re going to have to dump that view.  You’re going to have to find something that matters on that topic, something that you can be passionate or energetic about if you want people to listen and take action.<br />Try using these questions to talk yourself into feeling passionate about the subject.  Get cross. Get animated.  Talk to yourself out loud.  Pretend you are in a debate defending your point of view.  Get yourself into the right zone.  You can even share some of these thoughts with the audience.<br />How does this fit into the bigger picture?  If we don’t get this right what’s the impact?  Small steps matter.<br />What are the benefits to the audience?  This can really help us.<br />If we can get agreement here, will it lead to exciting and important new things?<br />Does this piece of the puzzle matter – what are the implications of knowing this information?<br />Getting the audience to buy in to this is important to my career.<br />

Meaning Matters

  • 1. Presentation Inspiration KineticFuture: Leadership Communications Coaching 5194300-407670<br />Meaning Matters<br />One of the young mums in our village was involved in a road accident. A young girl of 18 was hit by a speeding lorry as she walked on the wrong side of the road. Jane had to give first aid to the girl and call the ambulance. She’s a shy lady with two sons and crosses the same road with her dogs. Miraculously the girl lived.<br />The incident also transformed Jane into an excellent communicator and presenter.<br />Jane began a campaign to change the speed limit. She started a petition and galvanised the local community. She lobbied the local councilors. She stood up and spoke at the local council meeting. She became a mini celebrity in the local media. The speed limit was changed.<br />The point of this story is that if you believe that what you are communicating is important you will communicate with power. What people buy into is not “slick” presenters but people who are authentic, who have a clear vision, who really believe that what they are doing is important and will help the audience. When we analysed what makes a phenomenal communicator to develop our coaching model this is one of the four stand out factors that make the “greats” great.<br />If you work in an area which is your passion, you are lucky. Work out a clear message, keep believing and don’t be afraid to let that belief shine through.<br />But let’s face it many of us have to talk about things which we feel are quite routine. Well, you’re going to have to dump that view. You’re going to have to find something that matters on that topic, something that you can be passionate or energetic about if you want people to listen and take action.<br />Try using these questions to talk yourself into feeling passionate about the subject. Get cross. Get animated. Talk to yourself out loud. Pretend you are in a debate defending your point of view. Get yourself into the right zone. You can even share some of these thoughts with the audience.<br />How does this fit into the bigger picture? If we don’t get this right what’s the impact? Small steps matter.<br />What are the benefits to the audience? This can really help us.<br />If we can get agreement here, will it lead to exciting and important new things?<br />Does this piece of the puzzle matter – what are the implications of knowing this information?<br />Getting the audience to buy in to this is important to my career.<br />
