Mathematics library is one of the important sources of acquiring mathematical
knowledge and skills. It serves the purpose of inculcating good reading and study habits
which help in promoting self study and independent work among the students , with the
advent of information technology and cyber, there is a growing decline in reading of books.
The different types of problems and approaches available in different books help the
students in developing their problem-solving ability and adopting different problem solving,
thus making them more open minded and independent. Classroom teaching may leave
many gaps, a good library provide opportunities for fulfilling up the gaps removing doubt.
NEED AND IMPORTANCE
 A mathematics library provides immediate access to the necessary mathematics book.
 It facilitates timely use of the book and inculcate reference skill.
 It promotes efficiency in the organization of library services.
 It helps the mathematics teacher to get acquainted with the latest development and
ancient contributions of mathematics.
 It develop the healthy hobby of reading during the leisure time.
 Habits of self study and self education can be developed.
 It helps to supplement the knowledge learnt in the classroom .The teacher can
give assignments and suggest book for reference.
 Students can improve their general knowledge by reading general books,
magazines ,newspaper , etc.
 It provides the mathematics teacher with an important role in the selection of
relevant books for mathematics library.
FUNCTIONS OF MATHEMATICS LIBRARY
 A mathematics library provides the extra information necessary for
mathematics, since a teacher of mathematics may not find time to go beyond the
prescribed textbook.
 Mathematics learning requires a lot of drill and practice, a particular set of
textbooks cannot serves this purpose . A mathematics library helps in drill and
practice as the students can refer a number of books other than the prescribed
textbook.
 The different types of problem –solving ability and adopting different approaches
to problem solving , thus making them more open minded and independent.
 Classroom teaching may leave many gaps and doubts unclarified. A good library
provides opportunity for filling up the gaps and removing the the doubts
especially in higher classes.
 It provides facilities for the gifted students to satisfy their curiosity and thirst for
mathematical knowledge.
 It provides adequate materials and information necessary for completing the
assignments and homework.
 It helps in developing reference skills necessary for higher education.
ORGANIZATION OF MATHEMATICS LIBRARY
 In mathematics library there should be a good collection of useful books in
mathematics.
 The mathematics teacher should responsible for making a wise selection of
books for the library.
 The library should be attractive and provide an atmosphere for reading.
 It can be decorated with visual aids and pictures of mathematicians ,charts and
posters about their contribution, information on historical development of certain
mathematical concepts ,theorems and so on.
 The seating arrangement of must be comfortable for the students to sit and read.
The book and materials for a mathematics library can be collected and categorized
under the following heads and can be arranged in different cabins and shelves.
• Text books ;
For any subject the textbook is very important . These should be
provision of all the textbooks related to mathematics for each class of the
school according to prescribed syllabus.
• General books:
Books giving general information related to subject matter.
• Reference books :
These are books which meant for further studies.Table of constants , logarithms ,
dictionaries etc.
• Practical books :
Books which provide detailed information of experiments.
• Sourcebooks :
These should include books on methods and techniques of
teaching. These are reference books for teachers to acquaint them innovative
methods and techniques of teaching mathematics.
• Mathematics magazines and journals :
These are very important in mathematics library to develop among
the students the thirst for knowledge of mathematics.

Mathematics library

  • 2. Mathematics library is one of the important sources of acquiring mathematical knowledge and skills. It serves the purpose of inculcating good reading and study habits which help in promoting self study and independent work among the students , with the advent of information technology and cyber, there is a growing decline in reading of books. The different types of problems and approaches available in different books help the students in developing their problem-solving ability and adopting different problem solving, thus making them more open minded and independent. Classroom teaching may leave many gaps, a good library provide opportunities for fulfilling up the gaps removing doubt.
  • 3. NEED AND IMPORTANCE  A mathematics library provides immediate access to the necessary mathematics book.  It facilitates timely use of the book and inculcate reference skill.  It promotes efficiency in the organization of library services.  It helps the mathematics teacher to get acquainted with the latest development and ancient contributions of mathematics.  It develop the healthy hobby of reading during the leisure time.
  • 4.  Habits of self study and self education can be developed.  It helps to supplement the knowledge learnt in the classroom .The teacher can give assignments and suggest book for reference.  Students can improve their general knowledge by reading general books, magazines ,newspaper , etc.  It provides the mathematics teacher with an important role in the selection of relevant books for mathematics library.
  • 5. FUNCTIONS OF MATHEMATICS LIBRARY  A mathematics library provides the extra information necessary for mathematics, since a teacher of mathematics may not find time to go beyond the prescribed textbook.  Mathematics learning requires a lot of drill and practice, a particular set of textbooks cannot serves this purpose . A mathematics library helps in drill and practice as the students can refer a number of books other than the prescribed textbook.  The different types of problem –solving ability and adopting different approaches to problem solving , thus making them more open minded and independent.  Classroom teaching may leave many gaps and doubts unclarified. A good library provides opportunity for filling up the gaps and removing the the doubts especially in higher classes.
  • 6.  It provides facilities for the gifted students to satisfy their curiosity and thirst for mathematical knowledge.  It provides adequate materials and information necessary for completing the assignments and homework.  It helps in developing reference skills necessary for higher education.
  • 7. ORGANIZATION OF MATHEMATICS LIBRARY  In mathematics library there should be a good collection of useful books in mathematics.  The mathematics teacher should responsible for making a wise selection of books for the library.  The library should be attractive and provide an atmosphere for reading.  It can be decorated with visual aids and pictures of mathematicians ,charts and posters about their contribution, information on historical development of certain mathematical concepts ,theorems and so on.  The seating arrangement of must be comfortable for the students to sit and read.
  • 8. The book and materials for a mathematics library can be collected and categorized under the following heads and can be arranged in different cabins and shelves. • Text books ; For any subject the textbook is very important . These should be provision of all the textbooks related to mathematics for each class of the school according to prescribed syllabus. • General books: Books giving general information related to subject matter.
  • 9. • Reference books : These are books which meant for further studies.Table of constants , logarithms , dictionaries etc. • Practical books : Books which provide detailed information of experiments. • Sourcebooks : These should include books on methods and techniques of teaching. These are reference books for teachers to acquaint them innovative methods and techniques of teaching mathematics. • Mathematics magazines and journals : These are very important in mathematics library to develop among the students the thirst for knowledge of mathematics.
