What are mass,
volume, and density?
Mass
 Amount of matter in an object

Metric Unit of Mass = gram

       Method of Measurement:

       Electronic Balance
       Triple Beam Balance
       Double pan Balance
Volume
 Amount of space occupied by an object

Metric Unit of Volume = Liter or cm3

       Method of Measurement:

       Length x Width x Height
       Liquid Displacement
Density
 Mass per unit volume

Metric Unit of Density = g/mL or g/cm3

       Method of Measurement:

       Use the formula: mass
                         volume
How can I measure volume by
          displacement?
 Put a measured amount of water in a
    graduated cylinder
 Drop in an irregular shaped object
 Note water level
                    Final water level (volume)
                 – Initial water level (volume)
                   = volume of irregular object
Reflection
We have spent several days learning about the Scientific Method
  and Metric System of Measurement

In your binders write for me:
 1-2 Paragraphs about the Scientific Method: What did you
learn?, Is there something you don’t understand?, Are you
   comfortable with the terms?

 1-2 Paragraphs about Metric Measurement: What did you
learn?, Is there something you don’t understand?, Why should
we know the Metric System of Measurement?
