This document discusses the management of polytrauma. It notes that trauma is one of the leading causes of death for those aged 14-24 years old. Trauma management involves several phases: pre-hospital care including basic and advanced life support, early hospital care such as resuscitation and secondary assessments, operative care like thoracotomy, intensive care, and convalescence or rehabilitation. Optimal treatment of pneumothorax from blunt chest trauma involves inserting a chest tube in the mid-lateral hemithorax.
