• Expand on theme from last week (English for
Research Publication Purposes, or ERPP) in order
to develop “content knowledge” for midterm
assignment;
• Consider “argument” in conjunction with “take-
home” message: the importance of knowing
what point you want to make;
• Revisit some linguistic points from Essay 2;
• Revise and add to Essay 2, this time arriving at a
conclusion.

Goals for the week • Expand on theme from last week (English for Research Publication Purposes, or ERPP) in order to develop “content knowledge” for midterm assignment; • Consider “argument” in conjunction with “take- home” message: the importance of knowing what point you want to make; • Revisit some linguistic points from Essay 2; • Revise and add to Essay 2, this time arriving at a conclusion.

Students may initially struggle with academic essays. The research has broad implications. Students may not understand what an argument actually entails. The overarching theme of the course was grammar. The two genres are considered starkly different. Therefore, this issue warrants further investigation.
