editorial.
Editorial Copy consists of:
 news stories
 features
 columns
 departments
 readers’ letters
 sidebars
 photo captions
 journalistic apparatus
What is the goal?
The goal is to make a cover
that both represents the
contents of the magazine
and visually jumps out from
the sales rack.

DO’s and Don’ts
1) Cover images should have substance and
should relate to the content.
2)Titles and Cover lines should be shown
clearly and legibly, must work with the
other texts.
3)Cover lines should use unified fonts and
colors.
Using the Grid System
 organize information into rows,
columns of text, images and margins
 providing basic structure for each
page
 pure text: 2 or 3 columns
 text and pictures: grid with rows and
columns of squares
 the use of rule of thirds
 after developing grid system, you can
now extend elements out of the grid
