the celebrity ‘Ariana Grande’ .She is the
main focus to the front cover which
attracts the audience. She is using direct

making them feel more connected, this
also supports the ‘Male Gaze’ because
people look at her hoping to be like her
and look at her as a role model. The use
of the white space emphasizes her and
doesn’t distract from her, also showing
a professional finish.

Masthead- Billboard Magazine uses a
geometric sans font that is customized
for the publication. Also this is shown
as the word ‘Billboard’ is a name you
would expect as it reminds the reader
of importance and how the music is
current and important
The colour scheme is black and
white, these colours connotes the
60’s linking in with her helmet. The
style of the magazine is very
minimalistic and the left third is the
fullest, as that is the side which
would be mainly on show in a
shop. This magazine focuses top
songs and albums regardless of
genre.

audiences attentions, makes them want
to read and find out more

few subheadings and plugs but isn’t overly
busy. The colour scheme is black white and
red. Red connoting love and passion.
Masthead - All the Q magazines have the
same design for their masthead, this is
called Brand Identity it is used so the
audience always know the title of the
magazine and when buying the magazine
next, they know exactly what the magazine
is called.
Buzz word – ‘ confessions’ this draws in
the audience and makes them feel
involved as if the are being told a secret.
This shows the magazine has a lot of
gossip.
Main cover line – the main cover line is
‘MADONNA’ this is capitalises the
importance of her as an artist. The font is
large and bold, it stands out and is easily
viable so that it will catch peoples eye.
The mode of address – the magazine is
factual and serious yet the language is very
informal. The front cover says ‘group sex’
showing that Q is not aimed and young
children it has an older target audience.
Use of a pull quote – ‘I’m the queen of
despair’ attracts the reader and makes
them interested as they will think the
quote is from an interview.
Sell lines – Goldie - ‘ I was going to kill
myself’ interests the reader and makes
them want to know more and why she felt
like this.

Ray, it shows her with her tongue out
in a funny sort of pose. She is making
eye contact with the audience making
them feel involved. She is dressed in
fashionable clothes, showing her as a
role model and supporting ‘the male
gaze’. The high key lighting get rid of
all her imperfections, we don’t know
much about her and there is an
absence of information which makes
the reader want to know more,
making them buy the magazine out of
curiosity.
The layout – the magazine is busy and
loud, it is full out subheadings and the
colours are bring and stand out. The
background of the American flag fits
with the ‘a modern American icon’
the free posters is a good way of
selling the magazine, it adds extra
value to the magazine and make
the reader more inclined to buy it.
NME is all about personal touch
and connecting with the reader.

people wonder what he has done to
make him say something like that.

people attention as it is an intense
word which is in capitals, making
people wonder why this has been

5. The layout is busy and full of information.
The left third of the page is chat board of
songs. the other two thirds are the
contents page telling you what's on the
pages. The billboard magazines follow
the same format for each one.
The use of page numbers is convenient
for the reader as it allows them to
navigate to the different pages with ease
making them less likely to spend time
flicking through the bits they find
uninteresting.
The main image on the page catches the
readers eye, showing that she is going to
be one of the main stories, this makes
the reader interested in her and what
she has done to be the most important.
Also there are three more smaller images
of what's on other pages these must also
be important stories, that they want to
draw attention too. The use of the
people as the photos will make people
more interested as they are likely to be
famous people that people will be
interested in.
The page is clearly laid out this makes
it easy for the reader to navigate and
use the magazine productively. The
No1 is clear and bold making is easy
to sport and clear to the reader of
what it is. Also the word ‘CONTENTS’
is bold and clear, again making it easy
to spot.
The colours used are mainly, white,
blue, grey and black. The blue is
used as a boarder separating the
page up in to the different sections
making it clearer to too see where
the different parts start and end.
The blue is also used for some of the
smaller subheading, making them
clear and stand out to the reader.
The word contents is in black with a
light grey background making it
stand out, the same is done with the
No1 but that’s is white on a black
background.

this shows the importance of her and
how she is going to be a big part of
the magazine. She makes eye contact
with the reader, this makes them feel
connect as it is direct address.
The layout is busy and full of
information. It is split in to 3 sections,
the first third is the column of page
numbers laid out clearly so it is visible
and easy for the reader to use. The
other two thirds are made up a large
photo of Adel ands small box for
reviews at the bottom. The contents
uses blond on important titles with a
red background to make it easy for the
reader to spot them.
The main colours used are red, black.
white and grey. The red is used on the
titles and the Q logo to make them
stand out and seem important. The
black is used underneath some one
the titles to make them stand out.

I do not like the way this is laid out I
think it looks to busy and he colours
are boing and don’t look very
interesting.

double page spread. The

making it clear to the

the article match wit the
image with gritty dirty
looking colours, this makes it
look professional and make it
flow, but the blue used make
things stand out and add abit
of colour to the article
making it look less du and
boring.

This creates continuity. The
photo lets the reader know

colourful, making it
interesting for the reader

on. There is limited text and
it is very minimalistic, this
suggests this is like a front
cover for the rest of the
article. The different colour
in the spread make it seem
very simple and playful. The
colours of the clothes she is
wearing fit with the colour
scheme making I look more
sophisticated and

but over the text is a large
red ‘L’. The colours on the
pages are all very neutral
and are mostly blacks and
whites, so this ‘L’ is bright
red is very eye catching
drawing the reader in,
making them want to read

page. It is separated in
the three columns with
smaller paragraphs in
each. There is also
some drop capitals at
he start of some of the
new paragraphs making
it seem more
interesting.
Her name is placed a the
corner of the page. He
‘lady’ is all in lower case
which is very feminine, and
contrasts to the ‘GAGA’
showing more of a
masculine side, implying to
the reader she is ‘gaga’ and
has two sides to her
personality.
