TECHNIQUES &
CONVENTIONS
- One technique I will use will be close ups, I will use lots of these in my
video. I will have these when she is lip-syncing, I would also like the
occasional extreme close up of her lips when she sings. I will also be
using the close ups to show the emotion when she is singing, using the
close ups to focus on her facial expressions.
- I will also be using a few fast clip montages, I think these are very
effective and help to make the video look more dynamic and fit well with
the beats in the song. As my video will be most just my artist
performing, these montages will help to add more to the video and
make it visually pleasing and more exciting for the viewer to watch.
- The other two main shots I will be are long shots and medium close
ups, as my video is all about the artist and showing her and what she
looks like to her viewers medium close ups are a good way of being
able to show her quite clearly but also show enough movement in the
video to make it look dynamic. The long shots will be used occasionally,
these will be to show more of the background and locations which are
being filmed in, but as theses aren't very key to the video style they
wont be used as much. Another use for the long shots is the show more
dynamic shots of the artist and show her full body off.

5 opportunities of your ideas
- My idea for the video is quite open, I want to play around with
lots a different shots, this means when I come to editing it
together hopefully I will have lots of footage so I wont be short
for ideas and ways to put it together.
- The song I am using can also be made in to many different
style of videos, so if I begin to start my filming and it doesn’t
work like I hoped I wont be stuck for different things to do.
- The ideas for my video don’t require I very professional
background, I want it to be quite relaxed and more about the
artist, so I just need simple backgrounds that wont be a
distraction.
- If I did need a more busy background I live near plenty of
places that would be perfect for filming.
- I have the equipment supplied for my for free by college, this
means I can film my video with good quality cameras, and edit it

and can also interfere with the lighting.
- My performer my not turn up, so I would have to look to
finding someone last minute.

producers have, this means the fillers I could use wont be as

Brief biographical background – Selena was born July 22, 1992,
in Grand Prairie, Texas. She began her acting career with a 2
year run on the kids' show Barney and Friends. She then did
some small parts on the Disney Channel's The Suite Life of
Zack & Cody and Hannah Montana. In 2007, she was the lead
for Wizards of Waverly Place playing Alex, and then in 2009
released her album Kiss & Tell. Her other projects over the
years include the 2013 film Spring Breakers and the 2015
bringing out the album Revival, with single "Good for You."

FINAL IDEA – TRACK
SUMMARY
Summary/analysis of track [consider meaning,
content, duration, pace and style of the song]
The track I will be using is Selena Gomez, same old
love. This is almost like a break up song, it is about
being fed up and moving on. It is a fast pace song but
quite sad so also has some slower parts. The content
of this video I want to have lots of fast pase shots, all
focusing on her and some parts of lip syncing. This s
a typical pop song and will be focused on her artist
not the lyrics. The song is around 4 and a half mins
but im going to cut it down to around 3 as the last min
or 2 is just a repeated of the chorus.

FINAL IDEA – YOUR IDEA
Your creative concept/video synopsis [describe your interpretation, use of
imagery or narrative, genre conventions, etc]
My aim for my music video is to be like an a]Ariana Grande or
Selena Gomez video, I want the shots to be very much
focused on my artist, I was her to look appealing to the fans,
and also to have song of the clips of her lip syncing. I want
the video to be simple yet exciting and entertaining, I will try
and make this happen by having lots of footage so I can have
many different clips moving at a fast pase, this will make it
look energetic and dynamic and will help to make the video fit
in with the upbeat song, and fit in with the pop genre
conventions. Pop videos tend to use the women artist sex
appeal to attract the male viewers and I think I will try to do
this in my video too as it is a song about moving on and
getting over some one so I think that having her looking good
will help to show that she is moving on in the video and will

BUDGET TARGET
You have provisionally given an outline target of £2000 to
make your music video
This target should include a 10% contingency [that means your
budget should allow for £200 pounds within the budget – so
realistically you aim lower than £1800]
Your budget should account for everything, except your own

may be able to balance your budget later, there will have to be
a compromise somewhere

LOCATIONS
You need to identify locations and plan a recce.
What are the limitations and risks, eg distance, access, cost, weather?
How will you manage this?
A cheap option for a location to use is a friends house, I would be able to
use this for free or a very low cost. I could also use my own house for
some parts of the video which don’t need to show the room. So close ups
for the lip sinking could be done in a normal room on a white background,
this option would help me keep the costs down a lot this would give me
more money to spend on the equipment.
A hired studio would be very expensive. To hire for a day would be
around £140 for £280 for 2 days. If need be I could use the studio for one
day and a house for another if it is too expensive, you can also hire out
the studio for a few hours, this would be good if you only needed a small
amount of filming in the studio.
Another location I could use is a garden/park this would be a free, it is
also a nice way of being able to get lots of different shots and have lots of
different lighting. Also I could go somewhere like museum gardens, but

EQUIPMENT

who do you need to speak to get this kit? What is available? When?

I have to camera options, the better camera is £40 a day more to hire, I
would definitely pick this one if I have enough money, but I will use the
cheaper camera if I need to spend the money on other things. I will use all
the other equipment, lenses, a tripod, lighting. Overall with the cheaper
camera it would come to £472, but with the more expensive camera I
would come to £552, I think either camera would work well so it will
depends more on how much everything else comes to.
Although if I did rent the studio, I wouldn’t need the lighting as that would
be included. So that would help to bring the price down. But it would be
cheaper to use more equipment and use a free house or outdoor location.

FACILITIES
Where will you edit your video? Do you need any other specialist
facilities…?
The only facilities I will need to use is an editing studio.
I found a good deal for renting a studio, it is £180 per day, so for four days
it would cost me £720. This is a really good price compared to others I
have found. Although this price doesn’t included an editor to help you.
But the one I found with an editor who helps, it £420 a day. So I would only
be able to use this studio for 2/3 days so I would have to chose between
the two. I feel for the video I am doing I would need more time to edit over
someone helping.

PERSONNEL
CREW: What is you team? Who is in it? What are each team members
strengths/weaknesses? When are they available?
CAST: Do you need any external performers? When are they available?
Cost implications? Will you have to feed them? Transport them?
For my filming I will have a 2 person crew, these people will be there to
help me set up, carry equipment and just help with little bits. I will also
have one performer all these people will be a my friends doing it for me so
they will be doing it for free. I will pay their expenses, for example food,
and travel. I will put aside £15 per person per day. (2 days for 2 people =
£60)
I will pay for all of them to get a bus to a pick up point which I will drive to
and collect them each day, so they will need two bus returns each that will
be three return tickets. A return ticket from my friends houss to the pick up
point will roughly be £6 return, so that will be £12 each day X3 which is
£36 for the travel.
My petrol costs will be from mine to the pick up point twice a day, so 4 X
£6 will be £24 for the filming days. Also for my editing days I will need to

will need some things to decorate the
rooms, for example fairy lights, possibly
white bedding for any shots on a bed.

I will need a few different outfit options.
id say i would want 4 outfits for the
video, so i would set aside about £100
for these and also i would need money
for the make up and accessories, for
this i will put aside another £50.
SO overall i would need £180 for all
these props and costumes.

OPTION 1
For my location I will book out a studio for 2 days which will come to £280, and I
will also be able to use outside spaces for free which will help to add more
variety in to my shots.
The equipment (camera, tripod and lenses) will come to £400 for two days to
hire, this is a good price and I wouldn’t need to hire the lighting either as the
studio would have that already.
The editing studio I found with no assistant is £180 per day fr a full day, for 4
days this will cost me £720.
My personnel cost for the 2 filming days will come to £120, then adding on the
traveling to york for 4 days for my editing will add another £20 so that will bring
that up to £140 all together.
For props and make up and clothing, I will spend £180 all together.
All together for the 6 days everything will cost me
£1,720.

BUDGET EXPLANATION
AND JUSTIFICATION
I have used the money to the best of my ability by getting the things
I need but for the best price and staying with in the aloud amount. I
have got my equipment al for a good price but also compromised on
having a not as good camera to be able to get two days in the
editing suite.
Also by hiring out a studio for my days I will not need to hire out
extra lighting as the studio will have its own lighting I can use when I
am there.
I will pay for the peoples who are helping me for their transport as
they will have to come along way, I will also provide food for them,
which I have set aside a small amount for a simple lunch.
I will also provide the clothing, props and make up I want the
performer to use, so I have set aside a fair amount to buy just
enough props that I will need. I am just under the amount of money I
have for the shooting, but by coming out slightly under gives me

AND REGULATION
The song I am using for my video is Same old Love by Selena
Gomez, when using this song I would need to ask permission
to use it if not I could be in legal trouble.
Where I am filming my video will be a studio which I will hire, I
will have to sign to agree not to cause any damages and if I do
I will have to pay for them.
My performer will be over 18 so I wont need their parents
permission, but they will still need to sign a contract to agree to
what I am doing and for me to use footage of them and post it
online.
I will have to make a risk assessment to make sure I know of
any hazards in the studio and to make sure I know how to
avoid them and what to do if anything goes wrong.

FIRST 15 SECONDS
The first 15 seconds are just
background noise, not really the music
yet and no singing.
In this i would just have on shot a
panning shot of my performer in a quite
still position with the camera going
around her, showing a close up of her
face and moving round her body while
zooming in and out slowly.
While this is on i would have text come
over the screen with the artist name,
slowly fading n then back out then a few
seconds later the same thing again but
with the name of the song

FAST BEAT

SECONDS
In this fast paced 10
seconds before the singing
starts i will have a fast clip
montage along with the
beat, this will include around
5 different clips which will be
like snippets from later on in
the video. They will all be
the artist doing something
different or wearing a
different outfit, something
that shows he clips are all
different and makes them all
stand out. The will mostly be
of her, a lot being close ups
of her face or shots of her

‘TAKE AWAY YOUR THINGS AND GO
YOU CAN'T TAKE BACK WHAT YOU SAID’
In this first verse it is quite slow and steady still going along with the
beat that was at the start. In this i will have a couple clips, of the
same scene. this scene will be my performer lying on a bed, she will
be lip syncing the whole time through a few different clips, some she
will be looking at the camera others will be from the side, possibly
her sat up not lying down. As i don't know exactly what i want her to
be doing i will shoot the first verse about 3/4 times from different
angles and her in different poses, this will be good as when i come to
edit it together i will have lots of footage and be able to flick between
each shot at which ever point,
FIRST
VERSE
As this is the first line after the fast montage, i
want this to be a very slow clip just focusing on
my performers mouth as she lip syncs the lyrics.

SECOND VERSE
For this verse i just one one clip for the whole length on it, not cutting
between different ones.
I want this clip to be very about her emotions so it fits in well with the song.
I would have her on her knees sat down for this clip, unsure were as of
now, could be on the floor on the bed.. anywhere as it will be more focused
on her not the background.
I will start it on a close up of her eyes then very slowly start to zoom out.
So as it gets the second line of the song it is her full face, the further out
slowly as she keeps singing.
I'M ON MY KNEES, RIGHT NOW, 'OW
For this sentence in the verse this is the point where
the camera will have zoomed out and be high angle
shot over my performer showing her on her knees.

For my chorus i will have my performer
in the bed, i will have her being quite
dramatic. I want the sheets to be like
half covering her, this way she can
move them around when she moves
making it look more visually appealing.
CHORUS X2
CHORUS X2
For the second part of the chorus i will
have like a clip montage of lots of
different clips, these will all be her
messing around, dancing in some way. It
will be a mix of medium shots and close
ups. Some possible clips from outside
and different locations.

In this verse it is talking about how she's
not wasting anytime on the guy, so for
this one I want to have my performer
getting ready – by doing her lip stick as
she lip-syncs, I will have this as a close
up of her face. This will then pan around
to the back of her head, videoing her
from behind in the mirror.
VERSE 3
VERSE 4
In this verse it is the same as one
before in terms of lyrics, so I will do
this with the same sort of shots but
just in a different location. It will be a
lot of close ups with a zooming out
shot towards the end.

In this part of the video,
I'm going to have her sat
on a chair/stool, and
while it mainly being one
long clip of her signing to
the camera, it will have
light changes and really
fast short clips coming in
at random parts just to
make it look more
dynamic to fit with the
sound of this part of the
song.

My main location will be in my own home (8
Ratten Row Bishop Burton) It will mostly be
shot in my own bedroom. I have asked
permission from both my mum and dad who
have both given me permission to film in this
location. I may also film in the garden, this has
been agreed to by my parents too.
The other location I may also use, more as a
back up or if I need a few more shots with more
access to bigger lights, I will be sing the studio
at York College. This can also be used for
more shooting if something goes wrong with
my first location.

RISK ASSESSMENT
Risk Control Measure
Slips, trips and falls while using
equipment/looking through
viewfinders.
• Ensure you are familiar with your surroundings, any planned movements and that the
location is safe.
• Any camera movements should employ a spotter for the camera operator, directing the
movement safely.
Manual handling carrying equipment • Do not carry/move equipment beyond your comfort level.
• Request help when transporting equipment/share amongst crew.
• Adhere to manual handling methods for carrying items.
Lost/stolen equipment • Do not leave any equipment unattended.
Electrical equipment, extension/data
cables and plugs- electric shock
• Do not touch any equipment that appears faulty and report it to the tutor/technician.
Filming high angle shots • Be carful when filming above someone as if the camera is dropped it could damage the
equipment and hurt the person, wearing the safety strap will help to prevent this.

• Make sure she is wearing appropriate clothing and being careful when she is wearing
her heels. Need to take away anything on the floors which could be a potential hazard.

PRODUCTION SCHEDULE
My first two week will be my pre production and my planning, I will use this time to
plan how I will shoot my video and what problems I may face and how I will over
come then when filming. I will also plan the shots I will need to take when I do my
filming, I will also make sure I have enough footage so that I will not run out when I
begin editing. I will also use this time to plan my editing and what I will want to make
my video look like when I have collected all my filming. For example planning what
shots I will want and where I will put them in the video. I will also need to ensure I
book out my kit in these weeks as if I leave it too late I may not be able to get any for
when I need it. I will make sure I have all the equipment, props and people I need for
shooting before I break up for half term.
For my third week I will have my first day of shooting, hopefully I will have all my
filing done in this one day, if not later on that week or the start of the next week I will
have time to shoot a few more bits in the studio. I will watch back over all my footage
before I go back to college and pick which clips I will want to use and which I will not.
For the next two week after half term it will be all about editing my video, I will start
by grouping together the footage I will use and making sure I have enough for the
video, I will start putting the clips together along with the music and checking it all
works well, I will make sure to leave enough time to film more shots if I need to so I
wont run out of shots. I will also use overlays to make y video more interesting so I
