The document outlines a student's digital graphic narrative development project, which includes shape tasks, rotoscoping, film quotes, text-based images, comic books, photo stories, and illustrations. It provides evaluations of each task, discussing what was liked and opportunities for improvement. Idea generation includes mind maps for stories like "The Three Little Pigs" and "The Ugly Duckling" along with proposals, mood boards, and feedback on the proposed book idea.
5. Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I really like my pig, as I feel the shape fit well together
and really make a good shape that looks like a pig.
What would you improve if you did it again?
I would improve by adding more detail to the house and
otter as they lack details.
7. Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I like how the body looks, I feel I have god the
shapes made well and you can clearly tell what it
is.
What would you improve if you did it again?
Next time I would take more time in adding the
details, and features as this is unfinished.
10. Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I like my UP film quote, I think the way I made the
balloons is very effective and is easy to identify as
the film.
What would you improve if you did it again?
I would want to re do the text on my lion king
quote as it doesnât look very effective, and it is
hard to read.
12. Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I really like the one where there is a
pattern/image behind it I think this loos very
effective and eye-catching.
What would you improve if you did it again?
I would next time be more adventurous when
editing my texts, by adding more colours or
making them more obviously distorted.
17. Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I like these images in this style, I think when the
colours are used they can make the image look
more affective and eye catching.
What would you improve if you did it again?
Try another image and make it more colourful, I
would like to do one which is more adventurous.
19. Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I like how my images loo, I think they look
effective as I have made them look like a cartoon.
What would you improve if you did it again?
The photos I took were not that good, I think next
time I would spend more time planning how to
take my images more effectively.
21. Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I like the shaping of my character, I feel it is the style
I am going for when making my story.
What would you improve if you did it again?
Im not a very confident drawer, so I feel It could
look a lot better if I had made it on Photoshop so It
wouldnât have been hand drawn.
23. Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I like the texture of the snow I used on the
ground, I think this makes the image look more
realistic.
What would you improve if you did it again?
I would make more effort with the trees, by
making a few different ones, with different
colours and sizes.
25. Idea Generation
The three little pigs
Story â the pigs make three different
houses out of different materials, the wolf
comes and blows 2 down but the third one
stays stable, so he tries to climb in the
chimney but he gets burnt.
Moral â hard work pays off
There are no real bad themes or language in
this, it will also be able to fit with in 8-12
pages as it is quite a short story.
It shouldnât take too long to do as there are
only four characters, three of which are
pigs. There will also only be a few different
locations to make which will help speed up
the making.
Locations â There will be a setting for each
of the pigs houses, and also the settings for
when they are finding the straw, sticks and
bricks to make the houses.
Characters â there will be the wolf, and
three little pigs to be made, the pigs will be
easier as I can make one and copy it and
just add a little something different on the
each one to tell them apart.
The ugly duckling.
Story â ducklings are born, one is grey and ugly. He is
bullied by the other ducks by the way he look, this
make him very sad. He runs away and is sad for a very
long times. He goes to the river one day to watch the
pretty ducks swim, when he gets to the water he sees a
pretty duck looking at him, then he realizes this is his
reflection and he is now a beautiful swan.
Moral â donât be afraid to be yourself.
The vocab and themes are not to dark for young kids, it
will also fit between 8-12 pages as it is a small story.
It shouldnât take me too long to make as there will only
be a couple settings and a few different ducks to
create.
Locations â There will be one for when he is little this is
of some grass with a small river which will be used a
few times. There will also be one of where he runs
away to, and lastly the new lake which is is on when he
finds out he is no longer ugly.
Characters â there will be 2 ducks for the main duck,
one when he is ugly and one when he transforms.
There will also be a mother duck, and the 3 or 4 other
sibling duckling to be made. And lastly there will be the
2 or 3 pretty ducks/swans he sees towards the end.
28. Mood board of chosen idea
This is the colour
scheme I want for
my story, I want it
al Christmas colous,
very bright. Greens,
reds and whites will
be mostly used.
29. Mood board of chosen idea
This is the idea I have
for what the inside
of the grotto, or
workshop area will
look like on the
inside. It looks cozy
and is very
Christmassy with the
lights and tinsel, this
will help to keep the
children interested
as it is so bright and
eye catching.
30. Mood board of chosen idea
This s how I
want my
reindeers to
look, I want
them to be
quite
cartoony, but
look cute as
well as it is a
children's
book they can
look less
realistic.
33. Proposal
Dimensions
For my book I think I will have around 10 pages.
Story Overview
There are three reindeers who have been asked by Santa to help build a sleigh that is
strong enough to carry all the presents. He gives them a year to build it, the first
reindeers starts straight away, the second one starts a few months till Christmas and
the third starts the night before. Santa comes to test the sleighs. The second and third
reindeers sleighs break as they didn't try hard enough when building them, but the first
reindeers sleigh doesn't break and holds all the presents, ad for his hard work Santa lets
him lead the front of the sleigh on Christmas.
Export Format
I will be exporting it as either a PDF or a JPEG.
Advantages: These files can be compressed so the files size becomes smaller, this
means it can be sent to others more easily. It also keeps its quality.
Disadvantages: These file can only be viewed on adobe software, which can be
inconvenient for some people. Also once compressed the file cant be re-edited.
34. Deadline
I will have till the third of February to complete the production of my book.
Audience
My audience will be both boys and girls ages 3-5. I felt that have my book suited to
both genders will make it more appealing to the parents when buying it, as they can
have one book instead of two. The geodemographics for my book is British children
mainly, as it will be written in English. Also my book is to do with Christmas, so
children who are maybe from different countries may not celebrate Christmas, so
they wont be interested in the same way an English child will be. My book will most
likely be appealing to all the children as both boys and girls get equally excited over
Christmas.
Production Methods
To make my backgrounds and characters I think I will use a mix of both the shapes
and rota scoping, as i feel this will be the best way to get the look for the characters I
am aiming for. The rota scoping will be helpful when making my background as I will
be able to get the shapes of pants in the background in more detail and the shapes
will look realistic. I will also use the shapes for a lot of the bigger more simple shapes
as this is quick and easier than the rota scoping an will help save me time, so I can
add more detail in the time I have.
35. What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?
A lot of thought when into the proposal and this is
clearly shown thought the detail in it. The story is
well thought through and the target audience is very
clearly known.
The only improvement that could be made is adding
more advantages and disadvantages for the Export
Format and who the reindeers are as the first
reindeer get to lead the slay however normal it is
Rudolf
What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been
further developed?
You have clearly thought about other ideas in detail
and know clearly how you would do them and have
been thought through just as much as the actually
idea
36. What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?
You have gone into a good amount of detail referring
to the the audience and production techniques that
you are going to use. I feel that these cover how
your finished product is going to look as well as the
creation process.
Try and add the dimensions of the paper size that
you are going to be using in your piece of work to
better understand how your finished product is going
to be expressed.
What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been
further developed?
You have provided a strong range of mood boards
which help to demonstrate the type of book you are
trying to create. The individual mood boards
dedicated to the characters shows that you are
putting a large emphasis on character development
which is a key part of the story telling process.
Maybe try and adapt more on the mind map that you
have produced. Whilst all the content there is useful,
it could use some more information to back it up.
Possible information could be how you aim to adapt
the childrenâs tale into your own book, or information
based on the environment the book is set in as well
as many more alternatives.
37. What are the strengths of the proposal? What areas of the proposal need further work?
I like your story idea and I think that it is perfect for
people aged between 3-5. I like the how the story is
easy to understand so that the children will be able
to read it with ease. I like the detail that has been
gone into with the productions methods and I think
that the methods that you have chosen to complete
your 10 pages will be the most effective.
For the proposal I wouldnât change much but if I was
to change one thing it would be to add some more
disadvantages and advantages when it comes to the
file types.
What are the strengths of the idea generation? What areas of idea generation could have been
further developed?
I like how you have done lots of mood boards that
show each individual part of the story and how you
have covered it in mass detail. This means you will
have lots to use for you Rotoscoping. I also like how
you have used two different stories in the mind map
section. I like how you have gone into lots of detail
with the second mind map and you have looked into
each section in good detail.
If I was to change one thing it would to be to go into
the same amount of detail in the first mind map that
you did the second.
38. Feedback Summary
Sum up your feedback.
All feedback said there is lots of detail being put in, the mind maps were also mention
and how they show what I am going t do very clearly. A couple of times it was mentioned
that I should add more on to my mind maps too, for example more about how I am
changing the stories.
Which parts of your feedback do you agree with and why?
I agree that I need to add in the dimensions of the paper, I thought I had added it but I
didn't. I also agree that I might want to go in to more depth about how the other few
stories were.
Which parts of your feedback do you disagree with and why?
I disagree that I need to add more to my mind maps about how i am changing the story, I
think that I have shown this very well and it is clear how I will change the story.
39. Original Script
Once upon a time there was an old mother pig who had three little pigs and not enough food to feed them. So when they were old enough, she sent them out into the world to seek their fortunes.
The first little pig was very lazy. He didn't want to work at all and he built his house out of straw. The second little pig worked a little bit harder but he was somewhat lazy too and he built his house out of
sticks. Then, they sang and danced and played together the rest of the day.
The third little pig worked hard all day and built his house with bricks. It was a sturdy house complete with a fine fireplace and chimney. It looked like it could withstand the strongest winds.
The next day, a wolf happened to pass by the lane where the three little pigs lived; and he saw the straw house, and he smelled the pig inside. He thought the pig would make a mighty fine meal and his
mouth began to water.
So he knocked on the door and said:
"Little pig! Little pig! Let me in! Let me in!"
But the little pig saw the wolf's big paws through the keyhole, so he answered back:
"No! No! No!
Not by the hairs on my chinny chin chin!â
Then the wolf showed his teeth and said:
"Then I'll huff
and I'll puff
and I'll blow your house down."
So he huffed and he puffed and he blew the house down! The wolf opened his jaws very wide and bit down as hard as he could, but the first little pig escaped and ran away to hide with the second little
pig.
The wolf continued down the lane and he passed by the second house made of sticks; and he saw the house, and he smelled the pigs inside, and his mouth began to water as he thought about the fine
dinner they would make.
So he knocked on the door and said:
"Little pigs! Little pigs!
Let me in! Let me in!"
But the little pigs saw the wolf's pointy ears through the keyhole, so they answered back:
"No! No! No!
Not by the hairs on our chinny chin chin!"
So the wolf showed his teeth and said:
"Then I'll huff and I'll puff
and I'll blow your house down."
So he huffed and he puffed and he blew the house down! The wolf was greedy and he tried to catch both pigs at once, but he was too greedy and got neither! His big jaws clamped down on nothing but
air and the two little pigs scrambled away as fast as their little hooves would carry them.
The wolf chased them down the lane he almost caught them. But they made it to the brick house and slammed the door closed before the wolf could catch them. The three little pigs they were very
frightened, they knew the wolf wanted to eat them. And that was very, very true. The wolf hadn't eaten all day and he had worked up a large appetite chasing the pigs around and now he could smell all
three of them inside and he knew that the three little pigs would make a lovely feast.
So the wolf knocked on the door and said:
"Little pigs! Little pigs! Let me in! Let me in!"
But the little pigs saw the wolf's narrow eyes through the keyhole, so they answered back:
"No! No! No! Not by the hairs on our chinny chin chin!"
So the wolf showed his teeth and said:
"Then I'll huff and I'll puff
and I'll blow your house down."
Well! he huffed and he puffed. He puffed and he huffed. And he huffed, huffed, and he puffed, puffed; but he could not blow the house down. At last, he was so out of breath that he couldn't huff and he
couldn't puff anymore. So he stopped to rest and thought a bit.
But this was too much. The wolf danced about with rage and swore he would come down the chimney and eat up the little pig for his supper. But while he was climbing on to the roof the little pig made
up a blazing fire and put on a big pot full of water to boil. Then, just as the wolf was coming down the chimney, the little piggy off with the lid, and plump! in fell the wolf into the scalding water.
So the little piggy put on the cover again, boiled the wolf up, and the three little pigs ate him for supper.
