2. Subject/Character
Our Magazine Real Media Text
A subject/ character is a
really important convention
on the magazine because
its what draws in the
audience’s attention. The
image is suppose to be eye
catching, they usually take
up the majority of room on
the magazine front cover.
Also, the shot is usually a
mid shot or close up. We
followed this convention
because of the high
importance it has.
This real media text have
their main subject in the
centre of the magazine
front cover and it takes up
a lot space. The subject is
usually the protagonist or
antagonist. It immediately
draws a lot of attention to
the front cover.
We have followed this convention because of its
importance, the image is everything. It tends to be
located in the centre of the front page and we have
complied to this. As it is a horror magazine we have
stuck to low key lighting to create a more mysterious
atmosphere.
3. Cover line
Our Magazine Real Media Text
Another important
convention on the front
cover of a magazine are
cover lines. These tell the
audiences what other
articles will be included in
the magazine. They are
usually located on the left
and right sides of the
front cover. They are
normally quite big and
bold as the this catches
the audiences attention.
The cover lines on the real media text
is shown on the left hand side of the
front cover of the magazine. This
magazine in particular has also added
in pictures with the cover lines. This
give more details away with what the
articles will be like.
Overall the main idea of having cover
lines around the outside of the
magazine is so that the centre of the
cover is the picture. We have
complied with this convention. We
have used the same conventions so
that our magazine stays appealing to
our audience.
4. Main Cover Line
Our Magazine
Real Media Text
The main cover line is very important and commonly
used in real media texts. Typically they are used to
showcase the main feature of the magazine. In this
case our magazine is show casing ‘Angela’. As it has to
stand out, they are usually bold and eye catching. This
is definitely a good marketing opportunity also.
This real media text is displayed towards the
bottom the magazine front cover. The main cover
line lets the audience know what the main story of
the magazine is. The red texts goes with the theme
of splatter because red symbolises blood and
scream is a very gory film.
We have followed this convention because it is important for
the audience to get a insight of what they’re purchasing. The
text size can vary but have gone for a bigger text size but not
too big because on horror magazines they tend to use
slightly smaller text.
5. Date line/Price
Our Magazine Real Media Text
The Date line is a convention that we have
decided to follow and incorporate on to
our magazine front cover. It tells the
audience what date the magazine is
realised. Typically found near the date line
is the price. The price of the magazine is a
convention that is essential to have
because it lets the audience know how
much it will be to purchase the magazine.
The above real media text has a
date line that is located at the
very top of magazine. Alongside
the date line is the price of the
magazine. Some magazines also
display the Issue Number, this
lets the audience/buyer know
how many magazines there have
been.
Typically the date
line is found
either at the very
top of the
magazine, we
have stuck to this
convention as we
think that it is the
clearest to the
audience at the
top. However
some real media
texts have the
date line and price
nearer the
bottom.
6. Barcode
Our Magazine Real Media Text
Having a barcode
on the magazine is
another very
important
convention to stick
by just like the
majority of real
media texts do.
They are typically
located on the
bottom section of
the magazine.
This real media text displays its barcode
right at the bottom of the front cover.
sometimes on the barcode the date line
and price can be found.
Overall we have followed the convention of
real media texts to have a barcode to that it
is easily accessible to purchase, allowing the
magazine to be scanned quickly. We decided
to put he barcode at the bottom left hand
corner of the magazine.
7. Website
Our Magazine Real Media Text
Promoting our website on the
magazine is a great convention that
we followed for our magazine.
Generally the website text itself is
very small however it can actually be
located in different places. The
website is a way for audience/buyers
to visually get involved with the film.
The main reason for all these features
is to increase the stock intake and
promote the film in a many ways as
possible.
For a real media text the
website isn’t displayed as
clearly as I would’ve
expected it too. Also, it is
quite small in text
whereas mine is slightly
bigger. Reguardless they
have stuck to this useful
convention.
We followed this
convention because we
thought it was a great
convention to stick to as is
promotes even more
interaction with our
audience.
8. Strap Lines
Our Magazine
Real Media Text
Strap lines are commonly used on magazines of real
media texts. It is located at the very top on the front
cover, right above the mast head. The whole point is to
give a insight to the audience what they will find inside.
Also, they are usually in a different font so it stands out
from the other text.
In this real media text the strap line is found above
the mast head. The strap lines are basically trying to
convince the audience in buying the magazine by
telling them briefly what they can find inside.
We followed to conventions of strap lines because
we liked how they gave the audience a sneak peak
of what they can look forward to reading in out
magazine. Our strap line is located above our mast
head ‘Bloody Lines’.
