3. I Decided to analyze the most popular and
successful TV magazine ‘Radio Times’. In our
TV listing magazine, we used the convention
of a pull out quote in the article, with the
text wrapped around it. This convention is
typically used it show the key quotes of the
article and documentary. They are always
quotes that are directly relevant and eye
catching and interesting enough to grab the
readers attention and interest them in the
article. ‘Radio Times’ also adopt this
convention but we have developed it by
putting the quote within the article where as
radio times has it outside of the main bulk of
text.
The most bold and important piece of text
on the magazine in the title of the
documentary. We followed the convention
of having it bold and visible but developed
this convention by not having the title text
on the picture but within the column of
the article. I think this has worked well
because it does not distract from our
picture.
4. Both my magazine and radio
tines have used the convention
of the drop cap. This is used to
show where the start od the
article is and grab the readers
eye. We kept our drop cap in the
same color and font as our article
where as the example magazine
has used a red block to match
our color scheme. I don’t thing
using the style would have been
appropriate for our magazine.
5. Our magazine follows the convention of
having a header on our double page spread.
The purpose of the header is to brand the
logo of the magazine. The Radio Times
example doesn’t have an obvious header
like our magazine but it have a small logo in
the top left of the page. I think our use of
the convention is more established as it
shows the reader exactly what they should
expect to encounter on this page.
6. • Radio times is different to the magazines that inspired me
put it follows most key conventions and it has helped me
understand how the conventions can be used and adapted
to suit the target audience of the product. It has also
helped me to realize how I could have improved my own
magazine.
