1. This is the contents page heading, which is the largest piece of writing and in the centre of the page. The main article which was featured on the cover is the largest most prominent photograph on the contents page making the readers eye draw towards it. Here the date is shown so that the reader knows which issue they are reading, so they are aware that this is up to date indie music news. For each article that they have shown on the contents page there is a quote from the artists, to show that this is an interview. As well as this there is a small description of the article so the reader knows what it is about. The page of the feature is shown in bold, this helps the reader flick to the parts of the magazine that they find most interesting. This plus section show what else is the magazine, without detailed description. These may be the features that are less appealing for the mass target audience to read.

2. This magazine has used the magazine name on the contents page making the style consistent. This contents page has been organised into the main weekly features of the magazine showing headings for that feature. This tells regular readers where the regular features are in the magazine as they are likely to buy the magazine for these. Like most magazines the main article on the cover is again the main article on the contents page, this is to draw the reader into the most interesting article even when they’re just flicking through. This contents page also has a detailed summary of the article helping the potential buys to know what its about without reading the entire magazine. NME has used the contents page to advertise the subscription of the magazine. This is probably the best place to advertise this as most people will see it even if they do not buy or read the whole magazine. Subscription is how most magazine make a large proportion of their sales so it is very important.
