Magazine Publishers Analysis
Bauer
• Bauer was founded in 1875.
• Bauer Media Group is a European-based media company, headquartered in Hamburg, Germany
that manages a portfolio of more than 600 magazines, over 400 digital products and 50 radio and
TV stations around the world.
• The portfolio includes print shops, postal, distribution and marketing services. Bauer Media
Group has a workforce of approximately 11,000 employees in 17 countries. They have a revenue
of approx. 2,4 billion euros (2013).
• They are a multi-platform media group, with locations across the UK. Following their purchase of
Emap in 2007 (A British media company). Bauer has acquired a collection of media brands that
includes Heat and Grazia as well as a portfolio of national radio brands such as KISS FM UK and
Magic.
• Bauer are also involved in music publications such as Q magazine which Bauer took over from
EMAP. Other music magazines such as Kerrang and MOJO.
Independent Publisher i-D magazine
• i-D is a British magazine dedicated to fashion, music, art and youth culture. i-D was founded by
designer and former Vogue art director Terry Jones in 1980. The first issue was published in the
form of a hand-stapled fanzine with text produced on a typewriter. Over the years the magazine
evolved into a mature glossy but it has kept street style and youth culture central.
• In 1984, Tony Elliott became a publishing partner with 51% share of the company. Jones
remained editor-in-chief and creative director, but he also worked on other commercial
projects. In 2004, Jones - together with his wife Tricia, regained total control of the
company. i-D acquired in Vice Media.
After doing all of this research I would choose to publish my magazine with a big
corporation, as I believe that it would reach its full potential my magazine is very current and
new. Companies such as Bauer are already in partnership with similar magazines which
some I have took inspiration from. By signing with a big publisher I understand that they
may change my magazine or add to it but I think that would be a possible good thing as
they are expanding its success and also the company may have a different outlook on the
magazine.

Bauer • Bauer was founded in 1875. • Bauer Media Group is a European-based media company, headquartered in Hamburg, Germany that manages a portfolio of more than 600 magazines, over 400 digital products and 50 radio and TV stations around the world. • The portfolio includes print shops, postal, distribution and marketing services. Bauer Media Group has a workforce of approximately 11,000 employees in 17 countries. They have a revenue of approx. 2,4 billion euros (2013). • They are a multi-platform media group, with locations across the UK. Following their purchase of Emap in 2007 (A British media company). Bauer has acquired a collection of media brands that includes Heat and Grazia as well as a portfolio of national radio brands such as KISS FM UK and Magic. • Bauer are also involved in music publications such as Q magazine which Bauer took over from EMAP. Other music magazines such as Kerrang and MOJO.

Independent Publisher i-D magazine • i-D is a British magazine dedicated to fashion, music, art and youth culture. i-D was founded by designer and former Vogue art director Terry Jones in 1980. The first issue was published in the form of a hand-stapled fanzine with text produced on a typewriter. Over the years the magazine evolved into a mature glossy but it has kept street style and youth culture central. • In 1984, Tony Elliott became a publishing partner with 51% share of the company. Jones remained editor-in-chief and creative director, but he also worked on other commercial projects. In 2004, Jones - together with his wife Tricia, regained total control of the company. i-D acquired in Vice Media. After doing all of this research I would choose to publish my magazine with a big corporation, as I believe that it would reach its full potential my magazine is very current and new. Companies such as Bauer are already in partnership with similar magazines which some I have took inspiration from. By signing with a big publisher I understand that they may change my magazine or add to it but I think that would be a possible good thing as they are expanding its success and also the company may have a different outlook on the magazine.
