2. Camera angles & movement
In the establishing shot, we recognise that this music
video is some sort of comic, with the artist being the
drawing in this shot which shows his significance.
This implies that the music video has some sort of
narrative because it is a comic. Furthermore we can
link this too Goodwin’s features of a music video and
that there is a relationship with the music and visuals
which shows it is illustrative.
Moreover, after the comic is introduced to show
the narrative inside it, it then cuts to a mid shot of
an actor who is reading the comic. This could imply
that she has some significance with the comic and
has an interest in it, but once again we see the
relationship of music and visuals because the visual
of the woman creates a good tone which reflects
on the music.
3. Editing
The main editing technique we see in this video is the
comic animations what are shown when the girl goes
into the story. This helps the viewers recognise that this
is a narrative and that the actor in this story has fell in
love with the character which she is reading. This links to
Goodwin's features again as there is a relationship
between the lyrics and visuals. However seen as it is
only a comic it is not real but leaves ambiguity at the
end when the artist comes out of the comic at the end.
Furthermore, another editing technique we is cuts.
Continuously we see the cuts from the comic into real
life. This shows the contrast between real life and the
comic life and how when she enters the comic she
escapes the real life what she lives in.
4. Mise-en-scene
The location takes part in two places in the music video. For
example there is the part when they go inside the comic
and then back in real life when the actor is in the café and
runs home. This shows the contrast between the two
locations because in the comic she is having fun and doing
what she likes but in real life she is lonely in the café and
isn’t as happy when she gets home because she thinks the
character in the comic has died. However, we can also link
the to Goodwin's features as there is a relationship
between the lyrics and the visuals when they are in these
locations.
The costume in this video is quite
stereotypical for that time. For
example the artist is wearing leather
jacket and jeans and the female
actor is wearing a dress. This shows
the typical dress sense of this
decade and would probably inspired
fans to buy these sort of clothes at
this time.
5. Sound
Firstly, we can point out that in Goodwin's features the relationship
between lyrics and visuals are quite clear. For example the title of
the video is “take on me”. So this implies the fact that he is trying
to win over a woman like he does in the comic but he also tries to
tell the woman that it will be difficult for a relationship. We see this
when they get chased and she's has to escape the comic life
