Thangkas Research Paper
Almost every culture has some traditional artifact of religious value. For Tibet one example of this
is a Thangka. They aren t just a religious artifact, a Thangka is an artform. That art form is still
used today in modern art in Tibet. A Thangka is a three dimensional object made of various parts.
The main attraction is a picture panel that is painted or embroidered. Some more necessities are a
textile mounting, a silk cover, wooden dowels at the top and bottom and metal or wooden
decorative knobs placed on the bottom dowel (Shaftel). Thangkas were created to communicate
iconographic information in the form of a picture (Shaftel). Thangkas have many rules the artist

Edna St. Vincent Millay
[Women have loved before as I love now] : Burdens and Foiled Expectations Women have loved
before as I love now/ At least, in lively chronicles of the past (lines 1 2). These opening lines seem
to simultaneously show love as something old, trite, and exciting. In [Women have loved before as
I love now] , Edna St. Vincent Millaydescribes the ancient lovestories of the past and how she
relates to them. She writes how she used to seek out the parts which focused on love, describing
the love of past women as something passionate and strong. Millay also goes on to say that out
of all the women alive, she feels that only she connects with the love of the past, and that only
she truly feels love. [Women have loved before as I love now] shows that passionate love is a
joyful burden that is shared by both sexes. When love is typically described, it is thought of as a
joy, almost pure. Most people want to be in love. Millay, on the other hand, seems to represent
passionate love as almost burdensome. When referring to the act of love itself, she describes the
women she identifies with bearing as I bear/love like a burning city in the breast (lines 7 8). She
also states [I] Do suffer love (line 11). The words here are all negative, in contrast to what the
reader would expect. Yet, the narrator also seems to look upon this way of loving with longing.
She seeks the stories of the past, Hunt[ing] the amorous line (line 6). This way of love is how she
wants to feel, and

Lynching In African American History
Losing power can take a toll on the mentality of men. American history proves this theory
frequently over time. It s most prominent during the time of reconstruction in the form of
lynching. Lynching is termed as a killing organized and performed by a group or mob of people.
Some justify it as different from murder and get away from it. That is complete ideocracy.
Lynching is just a subcategory or another form of murder but not a different crime in itself in my
opinion. It was a combination of sadism and racismthat white used to subjugate African Americans
because they were afraid to be equal. For many years, Americans were at the top of the social caste
system and something was coming to ruin the system that has worked to their benefit and it was
called African Americanprogression. African Americans were making a life for themselves and the
white man was not having it. Out of fear, Americans, usually those that felt like they were close to
equal to negro status and less educated, started to use lynching as a way to instill fear into the heart
of the Black community. This did not mean that white Americans wouldn t participate in these
celebrations. Together Americans lynched countless black peopleand nigger lovers by burning,
castrating, and dismembering... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

scared to live my life. Being taught that I am inferior and could never be equal to my brothers

Essay about Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
Many women that become pregnant are unaware of the consequences of drinking alcohol during
pregnancy and the damaging effects it has on the fetus. When a woman who is pregnant drinks
alcohol, the baby is also drinking alcohol. Furthermore, the amount of alcohol that is consumed by
the mother is the same amount the baby receives through the mother s placenta. Many doctors
advise that it is okay for the mother to have an occasional drink, however, some women cannot stop
at one drink, and they continue to drink in excess throughout their pregnancy. Still, even moderate
consumption of alcohol is not wise, because it is still unknown how much alcohol the fetus is able
to tolerate without potential harm. Consequently, a fetus that has been... Show more content on

During the last trimester of pregnancy, the fetus lungs and liver are maturing, and the unborn baby
s liver is unable to handle any level of alcohol. At these stages it is critical for the mother to refrain
from drinking alcohol, in order to ensure the health of the baby. Some effects to the fetus of
drinking alcohol during pregnancy are: prenatal growth retardation, specifically, facial deformities,
and a tendency to be smaller in weight, length, and head circumference. In addition, alcohol causes
neurodevelopment defects and central nervous system dysfunction to the unborn baby. FAS infants
are also at an increased risk for many common birth defects, including congenial heart disease,
abnormalities of the urinary tract and genitals, and spina bifida. Although these abnormalities are
not specific to FAS, they do assist in the diagnosis of the problem.
Many recent studies are claiming that alcohol damages some parts of the brain more than others,
targeting particular biochemical pathways vital to the development, function, migration, and
survival of certain nerve cells. Further research is being done to help find ways that will block
some of alcohol s harmful effects on the fetus. One study has identified specific effects on
molecules that regulate development and others that participate in cell signaling (Christensen 3).

of my book is; No matter how bad it hurts, keep going. On the edge of unconsciousness, Nina
finally managed to wrest Dana s fingers off the trigger. She was pinned and couldn t raise the
gun off the deck, but she managed to turn it around and fire a shot. The blast echoed in the
cramped space and Dana felt a tearing sensation, as if her foot had just been ripped off. But she
managed to continue the stranglehold for a few more seconds, until Nina s body went limp.
Dana rolled onto her back and moaned at the searing pain in her ankle. With no idea what state her
leg was going to be in, she was fearful to look down. Her leg looked OK, but there was blood

Selective Breeding and Mammal Cloning
Demonstrate understanding of human manipulations of genetic transfer and its biological
implications

Selective breeding is the result of human manipulation of genetic transfer. It uses the same principle
as natural selection. However, natural selection is the process of selection by the environment
whereas;selective breeding is a form artificial selection by humans. Hence, selective breeding can
be defined as the artificial process by which desirable or specific traits are selected to produce ideal
breed of animals.
This process of artificial selection is nothing recent as agriculture began thousands of years ago.
Selective breeding however did commence with selection of plants containingdesired traits with the
purpose of producing bigger and easier to harvest grains with a greater yield.
As the decades progressed, technology became widespread and selective breeding started
producing animals for meat, milk, clothes, eggs and several other human desires. Due to selective
breeding, a smaller number of animals were required yet they produced a large amounts and better
quality products. This was possible as the animals were being genetically manipulatedso that they
contained desired traits.
Similar is the case of birds especially chickens and turkeys whose are meat widely popular in a
range of cuisines. There are two different types of

Connotation In The Deaf Community
As history progresses certain terms that hearing people use for the Deaf community have been
changed due to the negative connotation associated with the definitions. Due to the negative
impacts that some terms have there is a need to avoid them to respect the individuals that are in
the Deaf community. The three terms that should be avoided are hearing impaired , Deaf mute ,
and Hearing handicap The term hearing impaired has a negative view towards the Deaf
community and should be avoided. In the past this was an acceptable term to use because it was
thought to be politically correct, but in present time this is not the case. The term impaired
focuses solely on what a Deaf individual is unable to do and implies that the impairment of not
being able to hear needs to be fixed. It also implies that being anything but hearing is not
acceptable and that Deaf individuals are at a societal disadvantage. Deaf individuals do not believe
that they are at a disadvantage nor do they believe that their deafnessis an impairment. Therefore,
this term should not be used all together due to the negative connotation on the Deaf community
and Deaf individuals. Deaf Mute is an offensive term that should be avoided labeling someone that
is Deaf. The term Deaf Mute was used heavily in the 18th 19th century. The term Deaf Mute was
originally not intended to be disrespectful, but the belief was that deafness caused muteness. This
label was associated with Deaf individuals because it

and if he continues I would temp mute him from 5 15 minutes depending on severity.

because they could lead to viruses, or inappropriate videos.

will be permanently banned. Anything related to this will also result in the ban hammer.
/ Indirect Advertisement: Any non OPCraft link posted will be deemed as Indirect Advertisement,
most of the time it is Youtubevideos, and the punishment is perm mute.
/ Mute Evasion: This is when a player finds a way to chat to others while muted. The most
common way people do this is by putting items into the auction that are named something that
relates to talking to someone else such as putting up bedrock in the auction that is named Join my

Essay about Feminism and Changing Perceptions of Motherhood
Societal perceptions of motherhood in North America have changed drastically over the last century
and continue to change. Due to prescribed traditional gender roles, the concept of motherhood has
historically been latent in the concept womanhood, in that a woman s ability to reproduce was seen
to be an inherent part of her identity. Thus there existed societal pressures not only for women to
become mothers, but to fit into the impossible standard of being the perfect mother. However, as the
feminist movement gained more ground and women were increasingly incorporated into the
workforce, these traditional views of genderroles and in turn motherhood were challenged. As the

They argue that this media driven debate pins working mothers against stay at home mothers in
order to divert the dialogue away from the real issues such as affordable health care, quality
childcare, gender and racial equality, fathers roles in parenting, media effects, fair wages and
benefits, and family friendly work arrangements (204). They state that in this culture of mother
blame, mothers have been blamed for causing problems in regards to childhood development such
as, epilepsy, colitis, asthma, ulcers, arthritis, anorexia nervosa, and a multitude of more severe
problems in children (207). However, they argue that it is now accepted that these disorders are in
fact not caused by poor mothering... (208). Another issue with the Mommy Wars debate is that it
portrays a universal kind of woman white, affluent, and heterosexual ignoring the fact that there are
many different kinds of mothers of all backgrounds, sexualities, and economic statuses which can
make those who are not reflected as the average mother, feel inadequate. The authors further argue
that these messages that working mothers are harming their children are what discourage women
from economic participation and achievement and can have a negative impact on a mother s
perception of herself which in turn can affect her performance as a parent. It seems that the

The country can proudly claim the progressive and radical shifts made in response to the demands
of lgbt community. Why even in the twenty first century people have to fight for equal rights as
they encounter discriminations based on sexual attitude and identity in a country that stands for
democratic and secular rules? There are many such questions one needs to ponder on, as we try to
understand the position of the lgbt community of the US juxtaposing its achievements to the ones
made in other countries across the world. Confronting homophobia, eradicating hate crimes and
providing equal rights to the lgbt community are all to be considered considerable achievements of
the society. The United States has been a country, that has seen innumerable radical movements and
fights for lgbt acceptance, presumably progressive as we still have countries that suppress the
existence of sexually marginalised community by all means.
The argument that sexual orientation is already given and it is biological becomes immaterial, when
considering the plethora of sexual cultures that one can find in the US. History makes the evidence

society. Let us not forget that many books based on the theme of homosexualitywere banned, to

Analysis Of Patrick Barclay s Award Winning Work
Mourinho: A Critical Analysis of Patrick Barclay s Award Winning Work
The Structuration
Patrick Barclay divides the book into eight distinct parts, each having a totally different
significance, while none of those parts relates to the previous one, not in context of Jose Mourinho
s life, but of his traits as an individual as well as a manager. The eight parts are:
1.The Premier One
2.Welcome to England
3.The Formative Years
4.Jose Who?
5.Behind the Mask
6.From Infighting to Ecstasy
7.Mayhem in Madrid
8.Happy to be Back
Barring the first chapter wherein Barclay narrates the tale of the orgulous Jose Mourinho outshining
his idol Louis Van Gaalat the time of the book s publication, all the others have been written so as
to take the reader from all the way back in the early 2000s to 2015 again, where the author finally
ends his literary morceau of Jose Mourinho s praise, which, though irritating at times, is equally
striking for the one reason that the Portuguese is always recognised for his haughty behavior it s
easy to come up with a hate account on Jose Mourinho than one that elevates his status not just as a
manager, but a father, a husband and a friend.
Furthermore, there are divisions within the eight chapters of the book at least three among them
all that serve Barclay s motive of not messing all the incidents and stories up, thereby being
favourable for any reader since it s one particular time period that the author is always talking about

Galileo Dbq
DBQ: Was Galileo really a heretic?
Claim: Galileo was not really a heretic because he may have been trying to expand and
interpretation of the Bible, and he most likely did not directly ever say that the Bible was wrong.
It is plausible that Galileo may have been trying to expand, or change the way that the church had
interpreted the Bible. A main point in this was that in his letter, he never outright said that the
church was wrong, or that the Bible was wrong. He did, however, constantly imply that there was
something wrong with the ideas. As a devoted Catholic who was high ranking, an influential power,
and having political connection in the Catholic Church, it would have been unimaginable that
Galileo would say the the Bible was wrong. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An important thing to remember is that is the 16th and 17th centuries, there was no separation
between State and the Church. Most/all rules in the State had to do something with the Bible and
how it had been interpreted, and it anyone had opposed the ideas of the Bible, they would not only
get punished by the church, but also by the State. This made it laborious to try to prove an idea
with science, just as Galileo was trying to do. Not even the smallest accusation about the church
was taken lightly, As you know, the Council [of Trent] prohibits interpreting the Scriptures contrary
to the common agreement of the holy Fathers. (Document B). At this point Galileo had only just
started his discoveries, and sharing them with the public and church. Even though Galileo never
explicitly vocalized that the scriptures were wrong, just by throwing the idea out that the Earth
revolved around the Sun, caused disagreement from the Church and State. The timing that Galileo
started to speak about his discoveries and thoughts about the universe was not the best. He started
to say his ideas only a little after Bruno. Galileo supported Bruno s idea on how the universe
worked. This was probably not the best idea for Galileo, considering that Bruno had been burned to
death in 1600, for the popular belief that he was going against the Bible. The main difference

Homecoming Bruce Dawe Analysis
Bruce Dawe is an Australian poet who expressed his anti war standpoint and frustration with
society and individuals through his poetry. He had experience in a wide range of occupations and
wrote his poetry during the late 60 s and early 70 s in order to convey his thoughts on these issues
to a broader audience. This point of view is especially evident in his poem Homecoming which
documents the grief and frustration experienced post warand Weapons training that focusses on a
satirical re telling of the orders of a drill sergeant.
In the poem Homecoming Dawe laments the pointless waste of life as a result of the Vietnam War
while also sympathising in an omnipresent way. In conjunction to this he displays an almost

For example Weapons Training he combines the dehumanisation of soldiers and the harsh nature of
war with blatant racist comments in a way which seems devoid of meaning, however it discusses
deeper issues by disparaging the harsh treatment of these soldiers and the lack of empathy that is
shown to them. There are many examples littered throughout the poem Weapons Training which
expose these underlying themes and techniques which Dawe has used to explicate his point. An
example of one of the aforementioned techniques is the sexual innuendo of when you go down
there...the old crown jewels...because of your position your chances of turning the key in the
ignition considerably reduced? which also incorporates a rhetorical question as its climax. This
quote illustrates the idea that Dawe was employing sarcasm to expand upon his central point in that
he allows the reader to infer what is not explicitly stated and ridicule the way in which the drill
sergeant as the narrator explains how the soldiers must take care in battle, demonstrating the awful
treatment of the new recruits. Following on from this, the drill sergeant utilises a variety of military
jargon words coupled with demoralising comments when speaking to the soldiers. This adds to the
harsh feeling of the poem and highlights the negative attitude of the drill sergeant and his goal of

The Contributions Of The Solidarity Fund
The Solidarity Fund was organized to invest its member s retirement savings in local companies
with the goal of promoting economic development. The two primary missions are to make access to
professionally managed retirement accounts more available to all and to support job growth in
Quebec. They support local development through investment in local small and medium sized
companies or by investment in outside companies whose activities benefited the providence. They
seek investments that bring a fair return and also other nonfinancial criteria. As part of their due
diligence in looking at investment possibilities they prepared a social audit. The Fund prepared this

Essay on Using Steroids to Gain the Perfect Body
Using Steroids to Gain the Perfect Body
In our days, most people have set the goal and dream to have the perfect body. They believe by
having this image, they will be popular and/or attractive. People want to achieve the body that
they desire, like a super star, a hero in a Hollywood movie, a strong soldier, and an Olympic
athlete. However, what are the extent people will go to get the perfect body? The biggest problem
for those who dream to have a beautiful body today, as many people know, is the consumption of
steroids. It is amazing what people and athletes will do to enhance their performance, strength and
muscle size by taking steroids. Whether right or wrong people who use steroids to become the

These steroids are made to emphasize and promote muscle growth but without the masculinizing the
user as much as testosterone does (Silverstein, p.18). Anabolic steroids were first used to help
World War II victims put on weight at the end of the war. Anabolic steroids were intended for the
sick people, but instead of this, healthy people often abuse these steroids because they want to gain
muscle (Morris, p.230).
There are three major benefits from steroid use and they are: first, athletes will attain a greater
increase in lean muscle mass and strength when it is used with a combination of hard training and
the drug; second, the athlete s body suffers less breakdown as this decrease in muscle breakdown
and recovery time permits more frequent training sessions at higher intensity and for longer
periods of time (Lukas, p.7); and third but not least benefit, the increased aggressiveness they are
believed to simulate as this increased aggressiveness may drive athletes to train harder and longer
without the usual fatigue (Rogak, p.11). Other positive effects of using steroids are increases in:
storage of muscle glycogen; blood volume; a general boasting of the immune system; and the
reduction of body fat percentage. The effects are maintained as long as the athlete continues the
steroid use (Silverstein, p.17).
Unfortunately, anabolic steroids have many side effects. Some short term side effects include high

Descriptive Essay About Taco Madre
Taco Madre is a new Mexican restaurant that opened in Niles, IL. There were several reasons why
this restaurant caught my eye. The interior was designed wonderfully but the location didn t seem
like a good fit, the food was tasty, the people who went were from all age groups, and the music
was entertaining. This restaurant had mostly pros with one con, but, overall, this is a restaurant that
everyone should try because it has a taste of Mexico with a modern style.
The first time I went to Taco Madre, I noticed the location right away. This restaurant recently
opened in my area, so my friends and I decided to check it out and get a bite to eat. I noticed it
was located next to Papa Johns and a Wings restaurant. Because, there are other restaurants
surrounding the premises, it will create competition. My first impression was to dock some points
because of where it was located, but the interior area made up for it.
As I stepped inside the restaurant, the first thing that caught my eye was the walls because it
had the same design as the menu. It struck out because the patterns of the flowers that were
imprinted on the walls showed a lot of colors, which helped brighten the room and add a sense of
dimension/comfort. Not only were the colors of the walls vibrant, but so was the salsa bar
because it was presented with a wide range of spices to choose from. Moreover, Taco Madre had
an excellent variety of food choices. Some of the food they served were tacos, burritos, and
tortas. The menu was not overbearing like the Cheesecake Factory, but it was not limited like
another restaurant. The aroma of the Mexican food would make anyone salivate, the food has
always tasted fresh; plus, they put extra cilantro with a lime on the side. My friends and I
combined the individual tables to make a gigantic seating arrangement suitable for the six of us. I
ordered a Mahi mahi, which is fried fish; there is an option of flour or corn tortilla, and for dessert I
ordered flan. The flan had vanilla ice cream, cherries, and whipped cream added to the top. The
Mahi mahi was cooked to perfection, and the flan consisted of sugary ingredients, and the sweet
taste filled my mouth. Another factor that struck out to me was

The Cold War Of 1945-1991
So be it
Will the United States or the Soviet Union continue propaganda or resort to an attack? Many
democracies across the world like North America, Western Europe, Japan grew in prosperity after
World War II ended. The United States became the world s wealthiest and most powerful country.
These democracies rivaled the United States economically. The United States and the Soviet Union
had many differences that didn t cause a full fled war, but a quiet, propaganda and secretive filled
war that pushed both to the edge. This was known as the Cold Warof 1945 1991. The main causes
of the war were sphere of influence, Ideology, and military factors. The contradiction of who threw
the first punch still occurs today; in this case, the Soviets were most responsible for the Cold War
because of the, Iron Curtain speech, fears of the West, and the spread of communism. In conclusion,
despite the evidence that supports the United States, the Soviet Union was most responsible for the

WEDNESDAY, March 4, 2015 (HealthDay News) U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval of
Opdivo (nivolumab) has been expanded to include advanced non small cell lung cancer (NSCLC),
the agency said Wednesday in a news release.
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the United States, having been diagnosed more

Opdivo was clinically compared to another anti cancer drug, docetaxel, in a study involving more
than 270 people with NSCLC. People who received Opdivo lived an average of 3.2 months longer
than people given docetaxel, the FDA said.
The most common side effects of Opdivo are fatigue, shortness of breath, muscle and bone pain,
loss of appetite, cough, nausea and constipation. More severe adverse effects included immune
reactions involving healthy organs, including the lungs, colon, liver, kidneys and hormone
producing glands.

Comparing The Genesis Flood And The Epic Of Gilgamesh
Throughout the Genesis Flood, Atrahasis Flood and the Epic of Gilgamesh flood, there are
many different ways to interpret the different views of The Flood. These different narratives in
these stories have their own explanation on how this myth took place and the different beliefs
that occurred during this flood. The way you portray each narrative is based on what exactly
your beliefs are. When comparing the Genesis Flood narrative to that of the Gilgamesh Flood
narrative, there are many similar symbols throughout both narratives. In the Genesis version of
the flood, God had chosen to send the flood because the humankind he had created was evil and
he saw their wickedness. For my par, I am going to bring a good of waters on the earth, to
destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth
shall die (Genesis 6:18). This excerpt from the narrative shows that one God had chosen to send
the flood to destroy all humankind that he had originally created. Just like this narrative, the
Gilgamesh Flood narrative, a God by the name of Enlil orders a flood to destroy humankind.
Decided that the great gods should make a flood (Gilgamesh XI 109). This quote states how that
a flood was to be sent for the city of Shuruppak. In the Genesis narrative there was a righteous
man by the name of Noah that was chosen to build the ark. Make yourself an ark of cypress
wood; make rooms in the ark and cover it inside and out with a pitch (Genesis

The Museum Of Modern Art Christmas Card
While the LOVE sculpture is in fact a sculpture, it actually originated as a print image for the
Museum of Modern Art Christmas card in 1964. Shortly after it became a popular postage stamp,
while finally becoming a sculpture in 1970. The idea behind this work of art originated when the
Museum of Modern Art asked Indiana to design a Christmas card. He reflected upon his nomadic
childhood, remembering posters he had frequently seen at a Christian Science churches with the
words God is love(Robert Indiana Works.) He took this concept of love and stacked the LO on
top of the VE in red, green, and blue, and added further interest by tilting the O. While this
became a popular icon in the United States and beyond, Indiana refused to copyright his famous
image and variations of it. Since this image was being rapidly reproduced by the public, many
people incorrectly labeled Indiana as a sell out, even though he made very little money from his
famous LOVE sculpture(Wilde.) Robert Indiana, birth name Robert Clark, was born in New

Defoe s Robinson Crusoe and Swift s Gulliver s Travels are both novels which focus on the
nature of the middle man, whether this refers to social position, severity of feeling, or even
geographic location. One of the major points at which Swift most directly satirizes Defoe s work
concerns the underlying conventions of the these values, and their capacity to improve the lives
and the minds of those who hold them. Throughout Robinson Crusoe, the novel s protagonist
learns of the truth of the importance of holding to moderation; something which he learns through
suffering the consequences of his own rash actions. Crucial to this is the idea of pre destination,
providence, and of a rational order to the universe an order that only the middle class is able to
discover. If one considers Swift s work alongside the vision that is presented in Robinson Crusoe,
then it is clear that the former presents a satireof the very idea, central to Defoe s work, that such
events can be made comprehensible according to a schema of divine providence and conventional
morality. To understand Swift s satire, we must first understand how Gulliver s Travels and
Robinson Crusoe are similar, yet inherently different. The opening chapters of Robinson Crusoe
place the novel within the context of a providential moderation and a desire to refuse the natural
constraints of duty and familial obligation. This is made clear in the opening speech given to the
narrator by Crusoe s father, in

Televised Courtrooms In Canada
Televised Courtrooms
Against
If we let the courtrooms be televised to the public, they will start to lose faith in the court system
if they do not like what they see. Citizens who watch the programs are most likely going to have
a bias and will desire a final judgement that will go one way more than the other. A judge s or
jury s verdict might cause mass hysteria which can have negative effects to a jury member s
personal life and the reputation of the justice done in Canada. The country will ridicule the judge
even though they do not understand the law fully themselves and criticize the jury for
unanimously voting for someone to be guilty or not guilty when the viewers want a differing
response. The jury do not know everything going on outside of the court and what the media is
saying therefore the nation might have an opposing opinion to them. Their faces will be plastered
on television for anyone to see and for anyone to judge them. This will stress out an already
uncomfortable jury. Alternatively, another result could be the jury being swayed by the public to
select a certain decision instead of their own. As a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Criminal cases being more publicised will cause the viewers to be distressed about the number of
murders and robberies occurring in Canada. The media will catch fire over these felonies causing
many people to talk and spread the news making it seem like there is an epidemic of crimes even
though the police reported crime rate in Canada has been decreasing for over 2 decades. However,
since the news stations and media will be broadcasting to the public about all these scandals and
modify some of the facts to make it more entertaining , many people will believe it and think there
are many criminal acts committed in Canada than there really are. The point here is that what the
media chooses to focus on often times becomes the facts regardless of what the actual facts

Metamorphosis By Kafka Research Paper
Kafka s short story Metamorphosis absurdist novel has a number of absurdities in it for the
reader to relate to in their life. There were two that stood out, Gregory, the main charater, turning
into an insect and the family carrying on in life trying to not make a big deal out to the situation.
In the beginning, Gregory awakes to find himself having difficulties rolling out of bed. Slightly
concerned about his troubles with getting out of bed quickly subsided to his worries about
missing work. Although some people have experienced this in the past relating this to a bad back
or old age , Gregory knew something was seriously wrong but tried to hide it instead of calling for
help. Afterwards, he finds himself having unusual body parts for

Literary Explication Of Acquainted With The Night
Literary Explication of Acquainted with The Night In the poem Acquainted with The Night by
Robert Frost, the speaker of the poem has walked around at night a lot in his life. He has walked
away and back to somewhere in the rain. He has walked in the city and beyond, perhaps out of
the city. He has been down the lonely dark streets. He walks by a watchman, but did not look
because he did not want to have to give an explanation of what he was doing there. He has
stopped to listen to a voice calling out from another street, hoping that is was someone that was
looking for him. The speaker looks up at a luminary clock , which is the moon, but was not very
satisfied with the time that it has shown. He ends up referring to the first line of the poem, he has
been acquainted with the night. Robert Frostuses symbolism, setting, and the speaker himself to
tell the story of the man who has been acquainted with the night. The first literary element used in
Acquainted with The Night is symbolism. Darkness and light are used in the poem, more being
the lack of light. The poem could be seen as a metaphor of depression and loneliness. Even though
it is night time, the moon still reaches the streets, a symbol of hope. The first line establishes the
setting of the poem, I have been... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of the imagery in this poem seems to be far away and distant from the moon, to the far
away cry that is heard. The physical distance can be seen as a metaphor for the speaker s
psychological distance. In addition to being lonely, the speaker feels disconnected and far away. In
line 3 the speaker has passed the furthest city lights (Frost, 1928). By walking, the speaker has
created this distance himself. In line 11 the moon is used as the most distant image in the poem.
And further still an unearthly height (Frost, 1928). The speaker feels so distant from other humans
that he feels a little unearthly

Comparing Robinson Curusoe And Mrs. Louis Stevenson
Stevenson was very sick; on and off for months he was sick. Although it was horrible for him,
those long dreary days drove him towards the love of reading and adventure novels such as
Robinson Curusoe and Swiss Family Robinson. As a child, his nursemaid Mrs. Cummings nursed
him day and night, reading to him his favorite stories when he could not read them himself. She
also listened to Steveson s own written stories, encouraging him to explore his creativity though
writing. Eventually he got better long enough to play with kids his own age, but his love for
reading and writing was never forgotten. Throughout his life, Stevenson found some comfort
through reiterating his life experiences into stories. One most noted being, Travels with a Donkey

Life of a Teenager
The Effects of Teenage Relationships Different relationships affect teenagers in various ways.
Friends impact teenagers almost the same amount as their parents. Teenagers go to their friends
for help or to ask questions that they could not ask their parents about. Most of the time their
friends give them good advice but then there is the down side when they put pressure on their
friends to do something like to smoke, drink, and do drugs. In most cases they tell their friends
how to dress and act when around certain people. Love relationships just make it even harder for a
teenager to get a good education. Some start to fail in school because they are hanging out with
their boyfriend or girlfriend instead of doing their work. Throughout... Show more content on

Close family ties are an important bond for each member of the family. A guy who wants to date
a girl must ask for her parents permission. In case no permission is granted, it is highly unlikely
for the date to actually happen, unless in some cases that the girl and guy sneak out and date out
secretly. However, this is morally unacceptable in Philippine culture. Filipino parents are very
strict with their children having romantic relationships. Brothers are generally protective of their
sisters. Even cousins and other relatives are protective of their young female cousins and
relatives. They become more lenient when their daughters, sisters and relatives reach the legal
age of 18. When picking up the girl at her home for a date, it is common to provide gifts to the
family members (parents, grandparents and siblings) as well. Parents usually want to have
some conversation with the guy and ask about his family and educational background before
they can go out for a date. First Date The first date is officially a time to get to know each other.
The couple ask about each other s backgrounds and it is highly unlikely to have a passionate kiss
after the date. Some girls allow a kiss on the cheek after the first date, but this varies per person
and per couple. Some guys don t even get the chance to hold the hand of their conservative dates.
However, the more liberal females are more open to

History, Preparation, Execution, Results, And Lessons...
Introduction In February 1941, Field Marshal Erwin Rommel received command of the recently
created Afrika Korps. The unit deployed to Libya in order to support the Italian Army that had
recently suffered setbacks against the British forces. For the next two years, Rommel s forces
fought across the North African desert against British forces led by Generals Archibald Wavell,
Claude Auchinleck, and Bernard Montgomery. The culminating point for this campaign was the two
battles of El Alamein, after which the Germans retreated to Tunisia and eventually surrendered.
This case study will examine the history, preparation, execution, results, and lessons learned during
the Battles of El Alamein and how that defeat helped lead to the overall Axis defeat in World War
II (WWII).
History
The fighting on the African continent began before WWII. Italy, in the late 19th century, had
colonies in Libya, Eritrea, and Somaliland (now Somalia). In 1935, Bunito Mussolini, the dictator
of Italy, wanted to have an Italian East African Empire. To accomplish this, his Italian forces
conquered Ethiopia by 1936, forming his empire consisting of Somaliland, Eritrea, and Ethiopia.
The British, meanwhile, provided soldiers for the defense of the Suez Canal in Egypt in
accordance with the Anglo Egyptian Treaty of 1936. With Mussolini declaring war on England and
France in June 1940, Britain found itself surrounded by Italian forces.
Mussolini wanted to link the two sections of his

The Pine Is The Oldest Living Organism On The Planet
Growing in only six states the bristlecone pine is the oldest living organism on the planet. At
4,765 years old the Methuselah is the oldest documented living bristlecone there is, being almost
1,000 years older than its counterparts of the species. The age of this tree can be determined by
the amount of rings that are found when the inner truck is exposed. There is where the truth of the
extraordinary tree and its undeniable ability to outlive all other organisms lies. The bristlecone
having the ability to outlive all other organisms can be questioned but instead of asking how it
lives so long it should be questioned on the reasons for its lengthy pace to die.
The bristlecone pine is known to grow in the White Mountains of eastern California. In that area
conditions are not most desirable and ideal for plants to grow, however the bristlecone has
managed to withstand the harsh conditions and surpass the hands of time. The White Mountains
are an area that experiences short summers with a season for growing only being measured at
several weeks. These mountains also adhere to strong dry winds that travel against rocky souls.
These type of conditions cause any rain water that may fall to either drain off to fast for the plant to
absorb or the water to just evaporate (Matthews, M). With such harsh conditions it is amazing that
the bristlecone is still standing as the oldest living organism, unless it is because of these harsh
conditions that the tree has such longevity.
It may

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps
loyal to the Shah and his regime. He created the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to protect the
revolution within his country and keep the conventional army forces, who remained loyal to the
Shah, from rising up against him. He also hoped that the large population of Shi a Muslims in Iraq
would support his mission and rise up against their secular leader; this would keep the revolution
going strong.
Iran cut all ties with the United States and lost its dominance in the area; it s army was
disorganized and weak. The Iranian Revolution created disorder in many Iranian military units and
Iranian confrontation with the U.S. ensured it would be cut off from its primary weapons supplier.
During the year after the fall of the Shah, many areas of Iran were approaching civil war; this
frenzy in Iran made the country seem much more vulnerable than it really was, and led Saddam
Hussein to feel he had his first genuine opportunity to make Iraq the dominant power in the area
and the Arab world (Cordesman Wagner, 1990).
Hussein knew that there was a possibility that the Shi a population in Iraq could rise against him,
but he also knew there was a chance that he could get the Arabs in the southwest regions or Iran to
rally behind him. Iran publicly supported Shi a and Kurdish rebellion in Iraq and due to tense
relationships and continued border clashes over territorial disputes, tensions increased.
Finally, Hussein recaptured the areas that rightfully belonged to Iraq in

The Epidemic Of The Pharmaceutical Industry

Side effects of toxoplasmosis include brain inflammation, headaches, seizures, comatosis, lung
infection and many more side effects. The drug Daraprim has been around a long time of 60
years, and is a standard treatment for those who are infected with HIV and other parasitic
infections(Pollack, Andrew.). Former hedge fund manager, Martin Shkreli, and his
pharmaceutical company known as Turing Pharmaceuticals purchased the drug which was
priced at 13.50 per pill(Pollack, Andrew.). What Martin Shkreli did with his purchase of the pill
wise hike the price up over 5000% making the pill cost $750 per pill(Pollack, Andrew.). This
forces hospitals to use different treatments which are not as effective as the pill Daraprim.
Turing Pharmaceuticals is not the only one to manipulate, drug prices in such a manner.
Cycloserine, a drug used for tuberculosis, raised the price of its drug from $500 dollars for 30
pills, to $10,800 for 30 pills(Pollack, Andrew.). A California based Pharmaceutical company,
Gilead, charged up to $1000 for a new ВЁwonderВЁ drug called Sovaldi, which treats the lethal
Hepatitis C virus(Pollack, Andrew.). There is a trend of making the most useful drugs cost a
ridiculous amount of money; and it is because of financial reasons. According to the U.S
Department of Health and Sciences more than 3.2 million people have chronic Hepatitis C, and
drugs like Sovaldi have very little competition, making them able to manipulate

Future Privacy Of Data Analysis
Future Privacy of Information Technologies to Protect Personal Data In a modern life, from the
minute a person is born, a digital record is created. From that point on, the individual s behavior

when government collect data about our health, education and income, we hope that the data are

the database and in application code, Sharemind routinely applies cryptographic safety for
private data throughout the analysis process step, and Private data cannot be made public
without using special functions that need the compromise of some servers before publication
data. Different type of privacy There are four type of privacy levels. they are record level, source
level, output level and cryptographic privacy. First, Record level privacy is most important in
statistical surveys and setups where databases are published. Second, source level privacy is
very like record level privacy, but the difference is privacy does not easily report the issue of
privacy leaks as a result of a large number of frequent requests. Third, Output level privacy looks
directly at the result the data analysis more specifically in how much the outputs of a data removal
process leak material about its inputs. This is because breaking output level privacy means that we
learned something about the private inputs that we should not have learned. Forth, Cryptographic

  • 4. Edna St. Vincent Millay [Women have loved before as I love now] : Burdens and Foiled Expectations Women have loved before as I love now/ At least, in lively chronicles of the past (lines 1 2). These opening lines seem to simultaneously show love as something old, trite, and exciting. In [Women have loved before as I love now] , Edna St. Vincent Millaydescribes the ancient lovestories of the past and how she relates to them. She writes how she used to seek out the parts which focused on love, describing the love of past women as something passionate and strong. Millay also goes on to say that out of all the women alive, she feels that only she connects with the love of the past, and that only she truly feels love. [Women have loved before as I love now] shows that passionate love is a joyful burden that is shared by both sexes. When love is typically described, it is thought of as a joy, almost pure. Most people want to be in love. Millay, on the other hand, seems to represent passionate love as almost burdensome. When referring to the act of love itself, she describes the women she identifies with bearing as I bear/love like a burning city in the breast (lines 7 8). She also states [I] Do suffer love (line 11). The words here are all negative, in contrast to what the reader would expect. Yet, the narrator also seems to look upon this way of loving with longing. She seeks the stories of the past, Hunt[ing] the amorous line (line 6). This way of love is how she wants to feel, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Lynching In African American History Losing power can take a toll on the mentality of men. American history proves this theory frequently over time. It s most prominent during the time of reconstruction in the form of lynching. Lynching is termed as a killing organized and performed by a group or mob of people. Some justify it as different from murder and get away from it. That is complete ideocracy. Lynching is just a subcategory or another form of murder but not a different crime in itself in my opinion. It was a combination of sadism and racismthat white used to subjugate African Americans because they were afraid to be equal. For many years, Americans were at the top of the social caste system and something was coming to ruin the system that has worked to their benefit and it was called African Americanprogression. African Americans were making a life for themselves and the white man was not having it. Out of fear, Americans, usually those that felt like they were close to equal to negro status and less educated, started to use lynching as a way to instill fear into the heart of the Black community. This did not mean that white Americans wouldn t participate in these celebrations. Together Americans lynched countless black peopleand nigger lovers by burning, castrating, and dismembering... • 6. Essay about Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Many women that become pregnant are unaware of the consequences of drinking alcohol during pregnancy and the damaging effects it has on the fetus. When a woman who is pregnant drinks alcohol, the baby is also drinking alcohol. Furthermore, the amount of alcohol that is consumed by the mother is the same amount the baby receives through the mother s placenta. Many doctors advise that it is okay for the mother to have an occasional drink, however, some women cannot stop at one drink, and they continue to drink in excess throughout their pregnancy. Still, even moderate consumption of alcohol is not wise, because it is still unknown how much alcohol the fetus is able to tolerate without potential harm. Consequently, a fetus that has been... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the last trimester of pregnancy, the fetus lungs and liver are maturing, and the unborn baby s liver is unable to handle any level of alcohol. At these stages it is critical for the mother to refrain from drinking alcohol, in order to ensure the health of the baby. Some effects to the fetus of drinking alcohol during pregnancy are: prenatal growth retardation, specifically, facial deformities, and a tendency to be smaller in weight, length, and head circumference. In addition, alcohol causes neurodevelopment defects and central nervous system dysfunction to the unborn baby. FAS infants are also at an increased risk for many common birth defects, including congenial heart disease, abnormalities of the urinary tract and genitals, and spina bifida. Although these abnormalities are not specific to FAS, they do assist in the diagnosis of the problem. Many recent studies are claiming that alcohol damages some parts of the brain more than others, targeting particular biochemical pathways vital to the development, function, migration, and survival of certain nerve cells. Further research is being done to help find ways that will block some of alcohol s harmful effects on the fetus. One study has identified specific effects on molecules that regulate development and others that participate in cell signaling (Christensen 3). The cell adhesion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It uses the same principle as natural selection. However, natural selection is the process of selection by the environment whereas;selective breeding is a form artificial selection by humans. Hence, selective breeding can be defined as the artificial process by which desirable or specific traits are selected to produce ideal breed of animals. This process of artificial selection is nothing recent as agriculture began thousands of years ago. Selective breeding however did commence with selection of plants containingdesired traits with the purpose of producing bigger and easier to harvest grains with a greater yield. As the decades progressed, technology became widespread and selective breeding started producing animals for meat, milk, clothes, eggs and several other human desires. Due to selective breeding, a smaller number of animals were required yet they produced a large amounts and better quality products. • 10. Connotation In The Deaf Community As history progresses certain terms that hearing people use for the Deaf community have been changed due to the negative connotation associated with the definitions. Due to the negative impacts that some terms have there is a need to avoid them to respect the individuals that are in the Deaf community. The three terms that should be avoided are hearing impaired , Deaf mute , and Hearing handicap The term hearing impaired has a negative view towards the Deaf community and should be avoided. In the past this was an acceptable term to use because it was thought to be politically correct, but in present time this is not the case. The term impaired focuses solely on what a Deaf individual is unable to do and implies that the impairment of not being able to hear needs to be fixed. It also implies that being anything but hearing is not acceptable and that Deaf individuals are at a societal disadvantage. Deaf individuals do not believe that they are at a disadvantage nor do they believe that their deafnessis an impairment. Therefore, this term should not be used all together due to the negative connotation on the Deaf community and Deaf individuals. Deaf Mute is an offensive term that should be avoided labeling someone that is Deaf. The term Deaf Mute was used heavily in the 18th 19th century. The term Deaf Mute was originally not intended to be disrespectful, but the belief was that deafness caused muteness. This label was associated with Deaf individuals because it ... Due to prescribed traditional gender roles, the concept of motherhood has historically been latent in the concept womanhood, in that a woman s ability to reproduce was seen to be an inherent part of her identity. Thus there existed societal pressures not only for women to become mothers, but to fit into the impossible standard of being the perfect mother. We set the standards of our own yardsticks to measure a sexual identity as valid/ invalid, normal/ abnormal, natural/ unnatural, acceptable/ unacceptable, moral/ immoral and finally good / bad. Why even in the twenty first century people have to fight for equal rights as they encounter discriminations based on sexual attitude and identity in a country that stands for democratic and secular rules? Confronting homophobia, eradicating hate crimes and providing equal rights to the lgbt community are all to be considered considerable achievements of the society. The United States has been a country, that has seen innumerable radical movements and fights for lgbt acceptance, presumably progressive as we still have countries that suppress the existence of sexually marginalised community by all means. Claim: Galileo was not really a heretic because he may have been trying to expand and interpretation of the Bible, and he most likely did not directly ever say that the Bible was wrong. It is plausible that Galileo may have been trying to expand, or change the way that the church had interpreted the Bible. A main point in this was that in his letter, he never outright said that the church was wrong, or that the Bible was wrong. He did, however, constantly imply that there was something wrong with the ideas. Most/all rules in the State had to do something with the Bible and how it had been interpreted, and it anyone had opposed the ideas of the Bible, they would not only get punished by the church, but also by the State. This made it laborious to try to prove an idea with science, just as Galileo was trying to do. Not even the smallest accusation about the church was taken lightly, As you know, the Council [of Trent] prohibits interpreting the Scriptures contrary to the common agreement of the holy Fathers. The timing that Galileo started to speak about his discoveries and thoughts about the universe was not the best. He started to say his ideas only a little after Bruno. He had experience in a wide range of occupations and wrote his poetry during the late 60 s and early 70 s in order to convey his thoughts on these issues to a broader audience. This point of view is especially evident in his poem Homecoming which documents the grief and frustration experienced post warand Weapons training that focusses on a satirical re telling of the orders of a drill sergeant. In the poem Homecoming Dawe laments the pointless waste of life as a result of the Vietnam War while also sympathising in an omnipresent way. In conjunction to this he displays an almost condescending view of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example Weapons Training he combines the dehumanisation of soldiers and the harsh nature of war with blatant racist comments in a way which seems devoid of meaning, however it discusses deeper issues by disparaging the harsh treatment of these soldiers and the lack of empathy that is shown to them. There are many examples littered throughout the poem Weapons Training which expose these underlying themes and techniques which Dawe has used to explicate his point. An example of one of the aforementioned techniques is the sexual innuendo of when you go down there...the old crown jewels...because of your position your chances of turning the key in the ignition considerably reduced? which also incorporates a rhetorical question as its climax. This quote illustrates the idea that Dawe was employing sarcasm to expand upon his central point in that he allows the reader to infer what is not explicitly stated and ridicule the way in which the drill sergeant as the narrator explains how the soldiers must take care in battle, demonstrating the awful treatment of the new recruits. Following on from this, the drill sergeant utilises a variety of military jargon words coupled with demoralising comments when speaking to the soldiers. This adds to the harsh feeling of the poem and highlights the negative attitude of the drill sergeant and his goal of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The interior was designed wonderfully but the location didn t seem like a good fit, the food was tasty, the people who went were from all age groups, and the music was entertaining. This restaurant had mostly pros with one con, but, overall, this is a restaurant that everyone should try because it has a taste of Mexico with a modern style. The first time I went to Taco Madre, I noticed the location right away. This restaurant recently opened in my area, so my friends and I decided to check it out and get a bite to eat. I noticed it was located next to Papa Johns and a Wings restaurant. Because, there are other restaurants surrounding the premises, it will create competition. My first impression was to dock some points because of where it was located, but the interior area made up for it. As I stepped inside the restaurant, the first thing that caught my eye was the walls because it had the same design as the menu. It struck out because the patterns of the flowers that were imprinted on the walls showed a lot of colors, which helped brighten the room and add a sense of dimension/comfort. Not only were the colors of the walls vibrant, but so was the salsa bar because it was presented with a wide range of spices to choose from. Moreover, Taco Madre had an excellent variety of food choices. Some of the food they served were tacos, burritos, and tortas. The menu was not overbearing like the Cheesecake Factory, but it was not limited like another restaurant. The aroma of the Mexican food would make anyone salivate, the food has always tasted fresh; plus, they put extra cilantro with a lime on the side. My friends and I combined the individual tables to make a gigantic seating arrangement suitable for the six of us. I ordered a Mahi mahi, which is fried fish; there is an option of flour or corn tortilla, and for dessert I ordered flan. The flan had vanilla ice cream, cherries, and whipped cream added to the top. The way you portray each narrative is based on what exactly your beliefs are. Ngo Dinh Diem The Short lived Corrupt Regime of Ngo Dinh Diem Ngo Dinh Diem was sent into Vietnam two weeks before the signing of the Geneva Accords as the Prime Minister of the new government in Saigon, appointed by Bao Dai in June of 1954. He claimed that the only guaranteed resolution to a noncommunist government was a Catholic. Catholicism was a minority privileged sector of South Vietnamsociety which made U.S. officials apprehensive. Notably Diem had influential connections in Washington who advocated insistently that regardless of any weaknesses Diem may possess, he was the only Vietnamese politician with the determination and the credentials to wage a successful struggle against communism and preserve an independent government in the South (William... • 42. Comparison Of Swift s Robinson Defooe And Robinson Crusoe Defoe s Robinson Crusoe and Swift s Gulliver s Travels are both novels which focus on the nature of the middle man, whether this refers to social position, severity of feeling, or even geographic location. One of the major points at which Swift most directly satirizes Defoe s work concerns the underlying conventions of the these values, and their capacity to improve the lives and the minds of those who hold them. Throughout Robinson Crusoe, the novel s protagonist learns of the truth of the importance of holding to moderation; something which he learns through suffering the consequences of his own rash actions. Crucial to this is the idea of pre destination, providence, and of a rational order to the universe an order that only the middle class is able to discover. If one considers Swift s work alongside the vision that is presented in Robinson Crusoe, then it is clear that the former presents a satireof the very idea, central to Defoe s work, that such events can be made comprehensible according to a schema of divine providence and conventional morality. To understand Swift s satire, we must first understand how Gulliver s Travels and Robinson Crusoe are similar, yet inherently different. The opening chapters of Robinson Crusoe place the novel within the context of a providential moderation and a desire to refuse the natural constraints of duty and familial obligation. This is made clear in the opening speech given to the narrator by Crusoe s father, in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Televised Courtrooms In Canada Televised Courtrooms Against If we let the courtrooms be televised to the public, they will start to lose faith in the court system if they do not like what they see. Citizens who watch the programs are most likely going to have a bias and will desire a final judgement that will go one way more than the other. A judge s or jury s verdict might cause mass hysteria which can have negative effects to a jury member s personal life and the reputation of the justice done in Canada. The country will ridicule the judge even though they do not understand the law fully themselves and criticize the jury for unanimously voting for someone to be guilty or not guilty when the viewers want a differing response. The jury do not know everything going on outside of the court and what the media is saying therefore the nation might have an opposing opinion to them. Their faces will be plastered on television for anyone to see and for anyone to judge them. This will stress out an already uncomfortable jury. Alternatively, another result could be the jury being swayed by the public to select a certain decision instead of their own. As a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The media will catch fire over these felonies causing many people to talk and spread the news making it seem like there is an epidemic of crimes even though the police reported crime rate in Canada has been decreasing for over 2 decades. However, since the news stations and media will be broadcasting to the public about all these scandals and modify some of the facts to make it more entertaining , many people will believe it and think there are many criminal acts committed in Canada than there really are. • 45. Literary Explication Of Acquainted With The Night Literary Explication of Acquainted with The Night In the poem Acquainted with The Night by Robert Frost, the speaker of the poem has walked around at night a lot in his life. He has walked away and back to somewhere in the rain. He has walked in the city and beyond, perhaps out of the city. He has been down the lonely dark streets. He walks by a watchman, but did not look because he did not want to have to give an explanation of what he was doing there. He has stopped to listen to a voice calling out from another street, hoping that is was someone that was looking for him. The speaker looks up at a luminary clock , which is the moon, but was not very satisfied with the time that it has shown. He ends up referring to the first line of the poem, he has been acquainted with the night. Robert Frostuses symbolism, setting, and the speaker himself to tell the story of the man who has been acquainted with the night. The first literary element used in Acquainted with The Night is symbolism. Darkness and light are used in the poem, more being the lack of light. The poem could be seen as a metaphor of depression and loneliness. Even though it is night time, the moon still reaches the streets, a symbol of hope. She also listened to Steveson s own written stories, encouraging him to explore his creativity though writing. Teenagers go to their friends for help or to ask questions that they could not ask their parents about. Most of the time their friends give them good advice but then there is the down side when they put pressure on their friends to do something like to smoke, drink, and do drugs. In most cases they tell their friends how to dress and act when around certain people. Love relationships just make it even harder for a teenager to get a good education. In case no permission is granted, it is highly unlikely for the date to actually happen, unless in some cases that the girl and guy sneak out and date out secretly. However, this is morally unacceptable in Philippine culture. Filipino parents are very strict with their children having romantic relationships. Brothers are generally protective of their sisters. Even cousins and other relatives are protective of their young female cousins and relatives. They become more lenient when their daughters, sisters and relatives reach the legal age of 18. • 48. History, Preparation, Execution, Results, And Lessons... Introduction In February 1941, Field Marshal Erwin Rommel received command of the recently created Afrika Korps. The unit deployed to Libya in order to support the Italian Army that had recently suffered setbacks against the British forces. For the next two years, Rommel s forces fought across the North African desert against British forces led by Generals Archibald Wavell, Claude Auchinleck, and Bernard Montgomery. The culminating point for this campaign was the two battles of El Alamein, after which the Germans retreated to Tunisia and eventually surrendered. This case study will examine the history, preparation, execution, results, and lessons learned during the Battles of El Alamein and how that defeat helped lead to the overall Axis defeat in World War II (WWII). History The fighting on the African continent began before WWII. Italy, in the late 19th century, had colonies in Libya, Eritrea, and Somaliland (now Somalia). In 1935, Bunito Mussolini, the dictator of Italy, wanted to have an Italian East African Empire. To accomplish this, his Italian forces conquered Ethiopia by 1936, forming his empire consisting of Somaliland, Eritrea, and Ethiopia. The British, meanwhile, provided soldiers for the defense of the Suez Canal in Egypt in accordance with the Anglo Egyptian Treaty of 1936. With Mussolini declaring war on England and France in June 1940, Britain found itself surrounded by Italian forces. Mussolini wanted to link the two sections of his ... • 49. The Pine Is The Oldest Living Organism On The Planet Growing in only six states the bristlecone pine is the oldest living organism on the planet. At 4,765 years old the Methuselah is the oldest documented living bristlecone there is, being almost 1,000 years older than its counterparts of the species. The age of this tree can be determined by the amount of rings that are found when the inner truck is exposed. There is where the truth of the extraordinary tree and its undeniable ability to outlive all other organisms lies. The bristlecone having the ability to outlive all other organisms can be questioned but instead of asking how it lives so long it should be questioned on the reasons for its lengthy pace to die. The bristlecone pine is known to grow in the White Mountains of eastern California. In that area conditions are not most desirable and ideal for plants to grow, however the bristlecone has managed to withstand the harsh conditions and surpass the hands of time. The White Mountains are an area that experiences short summers with a season for growing only being measured at several weeks. These mountains also adhere to strong dry winds that travel against rocky souls. These type of conditions cause any rain water that may fall to either drain off to fast for the plant to absorb or the water to just evaporate (Matthews, M). With such harsh conditions it is amazing that the bristlecone is still standing as the oldest living organism, unless it is because of these harsh conditions that the tree has such longevity. • 50. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps loyal to the Shah and his regime. He created the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to protect the revolution within his country and keep the conventional army forces, who remained loyal to the Shah, from rising up against him. He also hoped that the large population of Shi a Muslims in Iraq would support his mission and rise up against their secular leader; this would keep the revolution going strong. Iran cut all ties with the United States and lost its dominance in the area; it s army was disorganized and weak. The Iranian Revolution created disorder in many Iranian military units and Iranian confrontation with the U.S. ensured it would be cut off from its primary weapons supplier. During the year after the fall of the Shah, many areas of Iran were approaching civil war; this frenzy in Iran made the country seem much more vulnerable than it really was, and led Saddam Hussein to feel he had his first genuine opportunity to make Iraq the dominant power in the area and the Arab world (Cordesman Wagner, 1990). Hussein knew that there was a possibility that the Shi a population in Iraq could rise against him, but he also knew there was a chance that he could get the Arabs in the southwest regions or Iran to rally behind him. Iran publicly supported Shi a and Kurdish rebellion in Iraq and due to tense relationships and continued border clashes over territorial disputes, tensions increased.
