This document summarizes a study that compared the ethanol productivity of two recombinant fermenting strains - Zymomonas mobilis 8b and Saccharomyces cerevisiae DA2416 - on pretreated source-separated organic waste. Source-separated organic waste was pretreated using thermal screw press and cellulose-organic-solvent lignocellulose fractionation. Enzymatic hydrolysis using Accellerase 1500 achieved 90% sugar yield. Both strains achieved similar ethanol yields of 0.48g/g based on sugar consumed, though S. cerevisiae DA2416 performed slightly better with a process yield of 0.49g/g.
