The lymphatic system is a network of tissues, vessels, and organs that transports lymph fluid through the body and helps protect against foreign invaders. It contains lymphatic tissue including diffuse and nodular lymphoid tissue. Lymph fluid is absorbed from tissues and contains similar constituents to blood. The lymphatic system contains primary tissues like bone marrow and thymus that create lymphocytes, and secondary tissues like lymph nodes, spleen, and tonsils. Major lymphoid organs are lymph nodes, spleen, thymus, and tonsils, with common lymph nodes found in the groin, armpits, and neck.
