The lymphatic system includes lymph, lymphatic vessels, lymph nodes, and lymphatic organs. It functions to reabsorb excess interstitial fluid, transport dietary lipids, and help the immune system. The main components are lymphatic capillaries that pick up interstitial fluid and lipids from the intestines, collecting vessels that drain into lymph nodes, and two major ducts - the thoracic duct and right lymphatic duct - that return lymph to the bloodstream. Lymph nodes filter the lymph and help fight infection and disease.
