Siddhartha Gautama, known as the Buddha, was born approximately 2,500 years ago in India and was a member of the Sakya clan. Seeking enlightenment, he meditated under a pipal tree and attained enlightenment, becoming known as the Buddha. He then taught others for the first time in Sarnath and spent the rest of his life traveling around India teaching that life involves suffering caused by craving and desire, but this suffering can be overcome through moderation and by following his teachings of non-violence, karma, and independent thinking.

2.  Siddhartha, also known as Gautama, the founder of
Buddhism,was born about 2500 years ago.
 Buddha belonged to a small gana known as Sakya
gana.
 In young age , he left home, wandered for several
years in search of knowledge , went to meeting with
other thinkers.
 He decided to find his own path to realisation and
mediated for days under a peepal tree at Bodh Gaya in
Bihar, where he attained enlightment.After that , he
was known as the Buddha or The Wise One.

3.  Buddha then went to Sarnath , near Varanasi, where
he taught for the first time.
 Buddha spent the rest of his life travelling on
foot,going from place to place, teaching people , till he
passed away at Kusinara.

4.  The Buddha taught that life is full of suffering and
unhappiness.This is caused because we have cravings
and desires(which often cannot be fulfilled).
Sometimes,even if we get what we want , we are not
satisfied,and want even more(or want other
things).He described this as Thirst or Tanha.
 Buddha taught that this constant craving could be
removed by following moderation in everything.
 Buddha also taught people to be kind and to respect
the lives of others,including animals.
 Buddha taught that the results of our actions (called
Karma),whether good or bad affects us both in this life
and the next.

5.  Buddha taught in the language of the ordinary
people-’Prakrit’.
 Buddha also encouraged people to think for
themselves rather than to simply accept what he said.
