LO3 EVIDENCE FOR MY PHOTOSHOOT
1. Evidence for my photoshoot
The location for my photoshoot was
Jubilee Park in
Ringwood because it is an iconic area
where a bench would be, which was the
main prop on my artists’ album. I also
ensured I picked a suitable day where the
weather was dry and clear, so the pictures
would be suitable with good quality for
my album.
First, I gave my actor a brief introduction about how I want her to pose to the camera and
what kind of facial expressions should be made prior to the different shots and close ups of
his face. The expression I advised for my actor to do was a straight face but almost looking
into the distance. This kind of facial expression would show confidence and show the typical
teenager. I also checked if my actor was wearing the correct clothing and if the genre was
conveyed through the style of his clothing. I wanted my actor to wear a simple white t-shirt
or a chilled sweater or hoodie, black ripped jeans and Nike 97s trainers. Hip-hop singers
usually wear ‘cool’ and popular clothing. My inspiration was Bryson Tiller and he shows the
typical Hip-hop style, also including accessories such as a watch, to also show the
contemporary style.
Before entering the forest, I communicated the risk assessment or any hazards prior to the
photoshoot so the actor and I were kept safe.
I walked around the forest to begin with and took
some location pictures and also looked at what
kind of lighting looked the best around the forest.
The weather was rather sunny so I had to make
sure the pictures were taken against the sun and
not towards it, which would have made the
pictures very hard to see.
I continued to take some more location pictures
but was not happy with them as the sun was
shining so bright into the camera and so the picture
became bad quality. Here is a picture taken of the
river with the sun in the picture. Usually the sun
streaking in the picture would make it look
effective, as shown in the first picture above, but
then here on the left, you cannot see the river sas
the sun has taken over the whole photo and made it
2. unclear to see. From this, I learnt to not take a picture-facing front on to the sun, as it is
unclear as to what the picture is actually of.
Afterwards, I placed my actor on the bench and made him pose looking to the left, straight to
the camera, and to the right to get contrasting angles of the actor. I found the sun bright here
so had to get the right wide shot angle.
At this point, the photoshoot was going well and the angles were accurately taken, without a
tripod. In my recce, I had to decide what camera angles I wanted to use because I had to
choose carefully as I was taking the photos by hand so I had to ensure the photos weren’t
blurry without having a stable place to prop the camera on.
Above on the left is the picture that will be used on the CD album to advertise the artist. I had
a cap as a prop to reiterate the style of the artist and the genre of the album. Also my Hip-
hop inspiration, Bryson Tiller, wore a cap in most of his concerts and I thought it looked
really stylish. I made sure the cap wasn’t covering my actor’s face but I decided to take a
front on shot so you could see that the actor was looking to left and perhaps shows that he’s
too important to look straight at the camera. This kind of shot showed confidence of my
typical teenage artist.
Here are some pictures of me with the camera, taking pictures of my actor on the bench.
I took pictures of my actor in a flowerbed and took it from a bird’s eye view, because it looked
like an effective picture. I also thought it could be used on one of the album covers because it
shows contrast of the location and how the bench wasn’t the main picture on the album.
3. Lastly after I had pictures taken of my actor and ones I was happy with, I decided to take
pictures of my actor’s clothing and props. I did this because I wanted to highlight on the
album what the typical clothing style of this Hip-hop genre was.
I asked my actor to wear Nike 97 trainers because they are popular shoes that most teenagers
wear and would recognise them.
I also took a picture of my actor’s watch to highlight the contemporary style of the album. I
also made sure the quality was really clear, as the shot was a close up and I wanted to show
the watch as a symbolised prop to show the genre of the album. I will add these photos to one
of the album covers to show the main style of the artist and to promote the album’s teenage
target audience.
