1. TASK E: PLANS FOR IMAGE TAKING
I will be using Saxon Du Plooy as my actor to portray my male artist. This is because he is
the exact target audience I wanted to portray, which was 16-18 as an older aged teenager. I
also wanted a cool looking and modernized male rapping artist to be on my Hip-Hop album,
inspired by other male artists; Bryson Tiller.
I have used inspirations from my male artist I researched in my case study, Bryson Tiller,
because his Hip-Hop and Contemporary R&B genre of music and style is exactly what I want
to create as my artist. His style really reflects his cool and modernized music in his album,
for instance he wears very relaxed clothing when performing on stage, as his target
audience are teenagers, with a similar clothing style, which is the exact style I want to
portray.
I have chosen to use my actor as he has brown hair and I wanted to
create a current look of Bryson Tiller. I like the style of my actor’s hair,
so it will look modernized and stylish under the black cap he will be
wearing in the photoshoot.
I have also chosen to choose Saxon as my actor because he has a
confident stance about him and it will look good on my Hip-Hop album
as I want them to come across as dominant and cool so people can look
up to my artist as an idol perhaps. Moreover, I could make my artist pull
a straight face or a smile and still the strong and confident stance and
character would be portrayed, which is exactly what I am wanting to
come across on my album.
My actor already has good stylish dress sense which is why choosing
him would be good as my artist. In this picture, the style of clothing is
very similar to my artist’s style of clothing anyway; baggy t-shirt under a
hoodie, tracksuit trousers and trainers. In my photoshoot, I will add more
things to my actor, but the overall dress sense here was what I am
looking for as my new artist.
The main costume choices I will ensure my character is wearing will consist of the following
images:
Firstly, the first picture shows some black ripped jeans and a baggy white-shirt. I will ensure
to include my actor with this outfit because it is a relaxed and stylish look. The white t-shirt
could potentially show muscle, which could promote the CD album better, so more target

audience interested are engaged with the photos and could perhaps be persuaded to buy
the album. The ripped jeans also show the current time we are in, and that the target
audience of teenagers are wearing these kind of jeans, so it’s just a mainstream and stylish
look to go for.
Next, I have added a picture of Bryson Tiller, being my inspired look, wearing a black cap
and a stylish watch. I have chosen my actor to wear a cap to look current and have a cool
style about him, being a rapper. The look of him wearing a cap also hides his face, so he
looks like he is too busy rapping or looks modernized to match his Hip-Hop genre. I will also
make sure my actor has a stylish watch, also in the photo, to show how the new artist is also
quite expensive and has a stylish but expensive branded outfit of clothing. This would help to
set a good idol look for the target audience so teenagers look up to this artist.
Lastly, I would like the artist to wear some sort of trainers. In this picture I am showing Nike
Air 97, which are reflective Nike shoes that reflect in the dark or in a flash. I think this would
be cool because the stylish and modernized look has been portrayed. Also as the target
audience is aimed at older teenagers, many of them may already have these trainers so they
know how expensive and cool looking they are already. In addition, having the same style as
someone famous, could make them feel good about themselves, having the same style as
someone well-known and easily recognised. I think also, looking back at Bryson Tiller’s style,
that trainers or comfortable shoes are more common to be worn with a relaxed, current
looking outfit compared to smart shoes that would be most commonly worn with a suit.
I have decided not to choose any big props, like a guitar or any sort or big instruments. This
is because on my Hip-Hop album I want to emphasise how stylish my character looks, and I
think if I use any large props the attention of the actor’s style will be taken away by the large
objects used in the photos. Instead of using any props, I will ensure my actor to look down at
his watch and clasp his hands together, so the attention of the audience is at his expensive
style, and, he will be wearing a cap, so he could put a hand on his head to show his modern
style of his cap.
A set prop I would perhaps like to use would be a bench, because I thought it would look
quite cool if my actor stands or squats on top of the bench to hold a position for the shoot. If
he is bending down, he could easily show off his style and would portray his mischievous
character, being shown stood on a bench.
I would like my actor to be modelled on a big object, for instance a bench to show how his
ripped jeans are on show and potentially to look down, so his cap covers his face. This
portrays the character is striking and up to no good, as standing on a bench isn’t really the
correct thing to do. I could also have my actor to widen his arms or clasp his hands to show
how modern and young he is and that he is a normal teenager but clearly recognised by
anyone.
I could also do more photo shoots of my actor, posing with his face facing the side, with a
close-up of the side of his face. I will ensure he pulls a straight face, so he conveys a cool
look and looks confident in his stance and his eyes. I will also choose to take other images of
him standing confident, with his hands in his pockets perhaps, to show his modern look of an
everyday teenager. Again, he will not smile so he looks intimidating to look at. The long shot,
from head to toe, can show his whole outfit and his stance. I would want him to look down at
the floor, so you can see the side of his face and his jawline, so he portrays a confident look

and too busy to look at the camera. I could also take long shot images of him walking so he
again looks very active and confident in the way he walks, with his arms by his side.
