Bruce Alan Beutler s Life And Accomplishments
Bruce Alan Beutler was born on December 29, 1957 in Chicago, Illinois. Shortly after being
born, he and his family relocated to Arcadia, California in 1959 due to his father accepting a
position as Chairman of the Department of Medicine at the City of Hope Medical Center in
Duarte, California. His father was a scientist and physician and his mother a technical writer.
From a young age, Beutler was exposed to the world of science and was quickly engrossed with
its endless wonders. He attended public schools up to the age of 13. He then was admitted to
Polytechnic School, a college preparatory school in Pasadena, California. The mission of
Polytechnic School is, To develop the intellect, talents, and character of each student in a
community of learning dedicated to principles of academic excellence that values the uniqueness
and dignity of each member and fosters personal responsibility and service to others (Polytechnic).
No wonder why his parents felt it necessary to enroll him into this prestigious school.
In high school and in college, Beutler began to work in his father s laboratory and conducted his
own authentic research. By age 14 Beutler could purify proteins and characterize ... Show more

they have identified genes required for other functions, including the regulation of iron absorption,

Prevailing Ingenuity in Edgar Allan Poe s
The Purloined Letter.
In crafting the detective mystery, Edgar Allan Poe is the only author credited with inventing a new
genre of literature. His contribution of this brand of story telling greatly influences writers to this
day. The Purloined Letteris the final tale in the trilogy of the clever and cunning amateur detective,
C. Auguste Dupin. In this story, The Prefect of the Parisian police calls upon Dupin to aid in an
investigation that has baffled and frustrated the police. Dupin finds a worthy adversary in the
antagonst, Minister D_. Dupin must identify with the mind of the criminal in order to retrieve a
stolen letter and return it to its rightful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A month later, Prefect G_. returns to Dupin s apartment to report that the letter has yet to be found.
The Prefect offers a reward of fifty thousand francs to anyone who can find it. Upon hearing of the
reward, Dupin hands Prefect G_. a checkbook and tells him to fill out the check and he will turn
over the letter. After taking possession of the found document, G_. rushes from the apartment, and
Dupin informs the narrator how he managed to obtain the purloined letter.
Unknown to the narrator or the Prefect, Dupin, wearing colored spectacles, visits the Minister
under false pretenses. During his visit his eyes search the apartment and he notices a damaged
and soiled letter placed openly on a rack, and determines it to be the document in question. He
purposefully forgets his gold snuffbox as he leaves the Ministers apartment. The next morning,
when Dupin returns to retrieve his forgotten property, a planned disturbance outside of Minister
D_. s apartment allows Dupin to replace the original document with a fraudulent reproduction he
had prepared the night before. This done, he exits the apartment, leaving Minister D. stripped of
the power of blackmail over the Lady. He also leaves in the false document a message for Minister
D_. to let him know who had made a fool of him.

Analysis Of The Sighet Ghettos In Night By Elie Wiesel
In Night, Elie Wiesel descriptively shares his Holocaust experience in each part of his survival.
From the ghettos to the Death March and liberation, Elie Wiesel imparts his story of sadness,
suffering and struggle. Specifically Wiesel speaks about his short experience in the Sighet ghettos.
Ghettos were implemented early on in the Holocaustfor the purpose of segregating and
concentrating the Jews before deportation to concentration camps and death camps. Depending on
the region, ghettoization ranged from several days to multiple years before deportation. All Jews in
ghettos across Europe would eventually face the same fate: annihilation ( Ghettos ). Wiesel s
accurate account of the Sighet ghettos illustrates the poor living conditions, the Judenrat and Jewish
life in the ghetto as well as the design and purpose of the two Sighet ghettos. Wiesel s description of
the Sighet ghettos demonstrates the similar characteristics between the Sighet ghettos and other
ghettos in Germany and in German occupied territories in addition to the differences between the
various ghettos. The Jews of the Sighet ghettos remained within the ghettos only for a short period
of time. As a result, they never encountered starvation or mass death as experienced in other
ghettos. Nevertheless the Jews endured crowded living conditions. The ghettos were relatively
small: one in the center of town occupied four streets, and another smaller one extended over
several alleyways on the outskirts of town

Two factories were used: one in Huzhou, the other in Quzhou, both in Zhejiang province. Among
the initial products were the Haoqing, a 4 door sedan, later the LG 1 station wagon and most
recently the PS4 sports car. Geely Motors was the first Chinese private enterprise to build
passenger cars. In 2000 the Haoqing, equipped with a 4 cylinder Toyota engine, was introduced.
Geely presented the PS4 sports car at the Shanghai Automobile Show of 2005, and started to sell
them in China during 2006 (Exhibit 2 in Appendix A). By 2005 Geely Motors had four
production facilities. One was a joint venture between Geely (53%) and the Quzhou Holding Co.
(47%), an investment company listed in Hong Kong. Since 2003, Geely had also been working
with Daewoo on a joint venture. In 2006 this venture had produced a new model of the PS4 sports
car which had just been introduced at the 2006 Detroit International Auto Show. By 2006 overall
production capacity for the four facilities were about 360 000 cars (Table 1).

Abnormal Intracellular Zinc Metabolism Caused By...
Abnormal Intracellular Zinc Metabolism Caused by Disruption of the TRPL1 TMEM163 Protein
Interaction
Keywords: Zinc, TRP ion channel, Lysosomes, TMEM163, MLIV
Mucolipidosis type IV (MLIV) is a human lysosomal storage disorder characterized early in life by
neurodegeneration, visual impairment, low muscle tone, and impaired secretion of gastric acid1.
MLIV is caused by loss of function mutations or deletions in the Mucolipin 1 gene2 resulting in the
absence or a dysfunctional protein product called transient receptor potential mucolipin 1
(TRPML1) ion channel. TRPML1 consists of six predicted transmembrane (TM) domains with
channel features showing inward rectification, and non selective permeability to calcium (Ca2+),
zinc (Zn2+), iron (Fe2+), and manganese (Mn2+) 3. Some of the cellular phenotypic
characteristics of TRPML1 dysfunction include hyperacidic lysosomes, lysosomal swelling, and
lipid accumulation. More recently, irregular levels of specific trace metals have been suggested to
contribute to the abnormal cellular phenotype, as well as the progressive cell degeneration
associated with TRPML1 dysfunction4.
The permeability of Zn2+ to TRPML1 suggests that this ion channel may play a role in Zn2+
regulation. A recent investigation of cytoplasmic Zn2+ accumulation in TRPML1 dysfunctional
cells suggests the possibility that this protein may normally function to transfer Zn2+ from the
lysosome to the cytoplasm5. Other studies suggest a significant increase of Zn2+ in the

Yoga and the Mind
Conquer the mind and you can conquer anything. That is a popular saying amongst Yogis (yoga
instructors) very few people recognize the truth and meaning behind this statement. There is a clear
connection between the health benefits associated with yoga having to do with the body, power
strength, balance, flexibility. Few people are aware of the multiple benefits it can serve for the brain
and mindas well. Is there a clear benefit and connection between mind and body when practicing
yoga? Yoga can supposedly improve depressive symptoms and immune function, as well as
decrease chronic pain, reduces stress, and lower blood pressure. These claims have all been
made by yogis over the years, and it sounds like a lot of new age foolishness. Surprisingly,
however, everything in that list is supported by scientific research. (psychologytoday.com) The
main struggle in yoga is to overcome the challenge, each pose is challenging, and your goal is to
breathe and remain calm throughout the struggle and to find your inner peace and keep going.
This is a strong concept to conquer; the mind of course often does whatever it wants. The true
gain one finds is when one does overcome the struggle; it is the process where one benefits.
Studies have shown a correlation between yoga and how one handles stress.Yoga retrains your
brain in how it reacts to the automatic stress response.( Korb) When the body first senses stress, the
first reaction is to quit and to become tense and

Both Mary Shelley s В‘Frankenstein and Bram Stoker s...
Both Mary Shelley s В‘Frankenstein and Bram Stoker s В‘Dracula are concerned with
representations of evil . Which creation/character do you find most frightening and why?
Evil features in both В‘Dracula and В‘Frankenstein but the personification of this evil is different
in both novels. A feeling of menace and doom pervades В‘Draculabecause of his supernatural
powers. One feels that he has control of the evil and he has the power to manipulate the
environment and people for his own ends. В‘Frankenstein centres on the creation of a monster
made from parts of dead bodies and the fear created by the monster due to circumstance and the
ignorance of society. Also, one feels a certain amount of apprehension that the monster is deserted

Mina realises this and pleads with the men to not tell her anything that might give their plans away.
I found Dracula particularly vivid in detail, this contributed to making the novel more
frightening, the horror and blood filled images were described so brilliantly that I could not
help but imagine them. Her white night dress was smeared with blood, and a thin stream
trickled down the man s bare breast, which was shown by his torn open dress. The attitude of the
two had a terrible resemblance to a child forcing a kitten s nose into a saucer of milk to compel it
to drink. This horrifying scene continues, His eyes flamed red with devilish passion, his aquiline
nose opened wide and quivered at the edges; and the white sharp teeth, behind the full lips of the
blood dripping mouth, champed together like those of a wild beast. In В‘Frankenstein the monster
does not wish to spill blood and uses strangulation as his only method of killing, the murder scenes
are not described in as much horrific detail and this leads to a less frightening view of the novel.
To me, Dracula is a corrupt person, devoid of any human feelings, he does not wish to and cannot
feel compassion for any other living soul, he is completely self involved and lives a solitary life,
the only companions of his kind are the three female vampires. The difference with Frankenstein s
monster is that he is a creature corrupted by

Obesity Is A Bad Addiction
Obesity is anabnormal accumulation of body fat, usually 20% or more over an individual s
ideal body weight. Obesity is associated with increased risk of illness, disability, and death.
National Health recommends 2000 kcal per day; of course it varies by people s physical
engagement activity. Nowadays there are loads of statistics which show that the substantial cause
of obesity is not extensive intake of food, but lack of exercises and intake of fatty and sugary
food. For instance, 30 years ago people used to eat more than today, yet they were more physically
active and they ingested more quality food.
Obesity is certainly a bad addiction, it is one of the most common bad habits, because it is easily
accessible and it is cheap. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Indirect tax it tax that increases the price of a good, so that consumers are actually paying the tax
by paying more for the products. An indirect tax is most often thought of as a tax that is shifted
from one taxpayer to another, by way of an increase in the price of the good. Fuel, liquor and
cigarette taxes are all considered examples of indirect taxes, as many argue that the tax is actually
paid by the end consumer, by way of a higher retail price. Those taxes include VAT and duties.
There are some arguments that those taxes can be either positive or negative to economic
progression.
As we can see there are two different types of indirect taxes. One is inelastic and other is elastic.
They differ because of their steepness of grading, representing the demand curve. In this case
sugar would be some kind of hybrid, because it is not fully addiction substance, but many people
can t imagine day without one. When the demand is inelastic consumer have to spend more money
on the tax than producer, which makes government to raise most revenue. However this would
decrease a really small percent of consumers, which will not be willing to buy this item. So this
would allow government to set up gradually higher prices and there would be obvious increase in
the country revenue, which will allow government to spend more money and to cover all the cost of
the sugar consumption.
Tax incidence is an economic term for the division of a tax burden between

High Rates Of Adverse Neonatal Outcomes
Abstract
Background: High rates of adverse neonatal outcomes have been reported among women with HIV.
In high income countries, small for gestational age (SGA) and pre term birth (PTB) are among the
most prevalent of these outcomes and have been variously associated with antiretroviral treatment,
ethnicity/race, psychosocial risk and lack of prenatal care. While evidence demonstrates that both
medical and social factors contribute to LBW and PTD, risk factors for HIV positive women in
Ottawa, Canada, have not been well described.
Objective: To estimate the proportion and risk factors of SGA and PTB outcomes and characterize
temporal trends among HIV positive women giving birth at an urban hospital in Ottawa, Canada.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study reviewed all cases of pregnant women with HIV
receiving prenatal care and/or giving birth at The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) between June 1990 and
July 2010. Data were collected on socio demographics, medical history, and adverse obstetric
outcomes. Univariable logistic regression was used to identify factors associated with small for
gestational age (90% health insurance coverage in our cohort, which provides for HIV and
obstetrical care, and prenatal programs in Ottawa.

Stephen King s Insight On Dreams
Stephen King s insight on dreams are all based on personal experiences. King begins by
comparing the functionality of a dream to a mirror I ve always used dreams the way you d use
a mirror to look at something you couldn t see head on . By using this idea of dreams being like
mirrors, King is able to alleviate his writer s block by depicting his dreams directly onto paper.
An example would be when King had already written seven to eight hundred pages of his novel
which he could not seem to finish. Then later reveals how a nightmare provoked the ending, he
states how he woke up frightened yet at the same time relieved he d finished the book.
According to King all he had to do at this point was to take his dream and transfer it to paper.
Without a doubt, King s personal experiences can justify why he believes dreams are a way that
people s minds illustrate the nature of their problems. Or maybe even illustrates the answer to their
problem in symbolic language .
After reading Stephen King s essay, it is easy to conclude that his dreams are extremely valuable to
his writing. King makes it clear that he has a consistent writing habit, but an unpredictable though
process. King also believes that a strong writer can dream while awake. He illustrates many
example where he uses dreams to create or finish a novel or film. This approach is random and
unpredictable. An example of his approach would be when he was working on the Salems Lot.
King explains how he relied on a nightmare

The Expansion Of The Deferred Action For Childhood...
President Clinton overstepped her limits as President of the United States to implement the
expansion of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Policy through an executive order. An
action that was previously enacted by President Barack Obama but was quickly canceled in the
decision of US v. Texas. She, or anyone that retains the position of the presidency, does not have the
authority to enact immigration policy under the nation s constitution and thus violates the
separation of powers doctrine as outlined by our Founding Fathers in Federalist Paper #47.
In the case at bar, there are four questions that must be answered: (1) Does this case deal with a
non justiciable issue? (2) Does the Commerce Clause give congress authority over immigration
policy? (3) Does Congress power to establish a uniform rule of naturalization give it authority over
immigration? And (4) Does the Take Care Clause allow the president to change US immigration
despite the previously mentioned congressional powers? At the end of this argument, I hope your
honors will decide that the case at bar deals with a justiciable issue and that the president s actions
are deemed a violation of the constitution of the United States.
The issue of whether President Clinton s implementation of DACA is a justiciable issue must be
addressed first. Baker v. Carr (1962) establishes the political question doctrine. This test determines
that any legal dispute dealing with separation of powers, foreign affairs,

Richard Wagner remains one the most respected and controversial figures in the world of opera

negative image of the composer due to his racist leanings. Richard Wagnerwas born in Germany on
May 22, 1813, to become one of the most popular artists of that time for his epic operas . Though
he was written off by his teachers as weak in music, he wrote his first drama when he was 11 years

How Did The Clock Impact The Ancient World
Many of the greatest inventions ever to be created were coined in ancient China. Soap,
gunpowder, even alcohol was first made in China, long ago. The clock, however, is, I believe, the
most important of all the great chinese inventions. It tells us when to get up in the morning, when
to be at school, at work, how long to brush your teeth, everything! The world runs completely on
time, and it s all because of a certain man who changed the course of the future by just wanting to
find out how to tell time more precisely than sundials and non mechanical water clocks.. Yi

Yi Xing, the inventor of the first clock, originally invented it for horoscopes, astronomical
purposes, and of course the time of day. Now, of course, we use it for much more then that. The
whole human society runs by the clock, and without the development of this specific clock, time
would be completely different. It would be like missing the first step on the stairs. You would
fall down them and land on your face. Where would that put time now? Would we still be stuck
on sundials and shadows? Maybe people would have abandoned that time set, and adopted a
whole other system of time. People would have different intervals of time, different ways of
telling time, different everything! However, the clock was made, and so no one even notices
because they are too busy running off to the next place. All because of time. Too bad Xing s
clock didn t make time longer! The clock Z=Xing made is very important for today s society.
Even if it was too futuristic for its time and wasn t used too often, the design for this clock was
used time and time again, and it developed into the clock we know

One Flesh by Elizabeth Jennings
Lying apart now, each in a separate bed,
He with a book, keeping the light on late,
She like a girl dreaming of childhood,
All men elsewhere it is as if they wait
Some new event: the book he holds unread,
Her eyes fixed on the shadows overhead.
Tossed up like flotsam from a former passion,
How cool they lie. They hardly ever touch,
Or if they do, it is like a confession
Of having little feeling or too much.

The Camp Cross Croutons Essay example
The Camp Cross Croutons The Camp Cross Croutons is the name of the first community I felt I
truly belonged to and that belonged to me. In this paper I will be reflecting on this significant
culture I was part of, and then viewing it as a system, through the lens of new science . I will
explore the sometimes paradoxical notions of emergence, autopoiesis, Maturana s
biology of cognition , structural coupling, chaos and dissipative structures.
Camp Cross, and the Croutons From the time I was three, Camp Cross was a familiar summer
getaway for me.

Autopoietic systems are closed structurally, but open to their environment. All parts of the
system work together to create or re create themselves by changing or replacing their
components(Capra 2002). Autopoiesis is life s fundamental process for creating and renewing
itself, for growth and change. (Wheatley 2006). While autopoiesis was initially observed and
developed at the level of microbiology, it can apply to any living organism, including people and
groups. The paradox of an autopoietic system is that while it creates itself in order to preserve
itself it will also change in whatever ways are necessary in order to insure further self generation.
(Wheatley 2006).
I see the Croutons as both a group of self generating organisms and as a self
generating organism as a whole. I am quite certain I created aspects of myself through
my interactions with the Croutons. It is not that I didn t exist before the time I spent
there, but I do think there were ways I had not acknowledged or appreciated myself
and that I created a stronger, more present way of being with the new patterns of behavior
I experienced. Additionally, I became less concerned with belonging at school or at
home because of the feeling of belonging my membership in the Croutons gave me.
The organism that was the Croutons started with a dozen of us in 1969.

Earplugs At Concerts Research Paper
The Importance of Earplugs at Concerts
Earplugs are not the coolest addition to your outfit, but they are an important, and often
overlooked, asset at concerts. If you are a regular concert goer that opts not to wear earplugs, you
are in serious risk of permanently damaging your hearing. In fact, the most common cause of
hearing loss is noise induced and can occur from just a single event such as a concert. The good
news is that there are fantastic products on the market that can help avoid any hearing loss brought
about by loud concerts.
How Your Hearing Works
Your hearing relies on tiny, delicate hair cells within your inner earthat carries energy from sounds
to your brain. Loud noises blast and tear these hairs which can cause permanent ... Show more

After around 85 decibels, you are at serious risk of damaging your hearing permanently. A
motorcycle engine revving sits at around 100 decibels, and at 110 decibels you can experience
loss of hearing after only two minutes. A loud concert can range anywhere from 100 to 120
decibels, with heavy rock band Manowar claiming the title of loudest concert ever, at a recorded
level of 129 decibels.
What Type Of Earplugs To Look For
It is perfectly normal to experience temporary pain or ringing in the ears following a loud concert.
However, if you regularly attend live events it is important that you protect your hearing
sufficiently. More to the point, you also want to hear the music going on, so make sure you are
getting the right type of ear plug. A standard foam ear plug will make the music softer, which is
great for your ears. However, it will also muffle the sound and dampen your concert experience.
High fidelity earplugs are a perfect balance of protection and quality to make sure you can enjoy
live music and performances, burden free. High fidelity earplugs work by creating a flat attenuation
in the sound, essentially turning down the sound of the music but not the

Tropical Wave Research Paper
A tropical wave emerged into the Atlantic from the west coast of Africa on September 14. After
detaching from the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) on September 18,[7] the wave quickly
developed into a tropical depression about 575 mi (925 km) west of the Cabo Verde Islands.[3]
Moving northwestward, the depression intensified according to ships and satellite imagery,[7]
becoming Tropical Storm Faye on September 19.[3] The cyclone then moved westward and was
unable to intensify further due to increasing wind shear,[7] before weakening to a tropical
depression on September 23.[3] Shortly thereafter, Faye turned to the north, crossing an upper
trough axis over the central Atlantic. Southwesterly flow aloft allowed the system to re

Summary Of Barbie-Q By Sandra Cisneros
The story Barbie Q was written by Sandra Cisneros who grew up with a strong male influence in
her family, being the only female in a family of six male kids. She began writing at a young age
and became an accredited author in 1978 with a Masters degree in Fine Arts at an Iowa Writers
Workshop (Cisneros 339). The story Barbie Q is is a work with a strong emphasis on
underprivileged females being overruled by society. Cisneros point of the story is to identify that
the pressures of females to be in pristine condition and anything less is considered invaluable or
worthless.
The work of Cisneros exposes the societal pressures of females in everyday life and the
inequitable treatment of those that have a better wealth situation than others. The story starts off
with two young girls discussing the dolls they see in the store but knowing not to ask for one.
The reason the girls know to not ask for one is because their family can t afford a brand new doll.
Specifically one of the girls says, We have to make do with the barbies they have now (Cisneros
339). Due to the money issues, the girls feel like they have fewer opportunities in the cultural
time period. When they finally can t afford the dolls they arrive at a farmers market where they
see a set of dolls for cheap. The dolls were discovered to be damaged physically with a burning
down of a warehouse where they were stored. This connects to the constant maltreatment of females
in the society in that the ones that are

THE ISSUE OF PRODUCT OF NATURE IN PATENT LAW
INTRODUCTION
There exist several areas where further research and development is essential to promote the
longevity of mankind and enhance the quality of life, and since the aim of the patent system is to
promote innovation, it incentivises the same by looking after the financial aspect of the research
through funds and research grants. At the same time, certain domains of extremely important
research, requiring heavy funding, fall into the patent ineligible category, hit by one or more of the

A CHRONOLOGY OF SELECTIVE JUDGEMENTS ON PRODUCT OF NATURE
A product of nature could be understood as something which exists in nature and the invention or
discovery of which is bereft of significant human intervention. Ex parte Latimer was one of the
earlier cases which disallowed for a patent for a natural product. The Judge opined that the fibre
for which a patent was requested existed in a natural state in the needles of the Australian pine
and its existence was also known of. However, a couple of decades later, in Parke Davis Co. v.
H.K. Mulford Co., a purified version of adrenaline was found to be patent eligible by Judge Hand,
who stressed on the difference in kind, not in degree. The US Supreme Court found an aggregation
of naturally occurring non inhibitive microorganisms to be lacking for a patent . While the Court
accepted that the combination was a step forward and useful, the fact remained that the state of
inhibition was its natural state and had nothing to do with human intervention, and hence, this
naturally occurring phenomena ought to be part of the common knowledge for all men.
One of the major cases , post the enactment of the 1952 Patents Act held that there was nothing in
the wording of the statute that disqualified a

The Abc Murders Chapter Summaries
The second book I read over the summer break was a page turning mystery novel, The ABC
Murders, written by one of my favorite authors, Agatha Christie. This book is another installment
of Christie s Detective Hercule Poirot series. In this novel, Poirot shares a letter he received from
the ABC Murderer telling him to watch out for the small town, Andover, on the upcoming 21st,
the following Friday, with his friend Captain Hastings. Poirot had feared that a murder would
occur on that day. However, when Friday finally rolls around, no murder is reported. The pair

Agatha Christie. I especially enjoyed the character, Hercule Poirot, because not only is he a great
detective and able to analyze clues and evidence, but he can also use his intelligent mind to help

Spartacus Film Analysis
Spartacus, 1960, is a film directed by Stanley Kubrick based on the Novel Spartacus by Howard
Fast. The film follows the life of a slave named Spartacus who fought for his own freedom which
led to the Third Servile War. The Third Servile War, also named the War of Spartacus, was slave
insurrections against the Roman Republic. Although Spartacuss main enemy is all of Rome and its
culture, like most heroes portrayed in film, Spartacus s main antagonist is a Roman senator Marcus
Licinius Crassus, whose ultimate goal is to become dictator of Rome. However, does the film
Spartacus follow closely to historical facts, or is it another film dramatized to entertain the public
as Hollywood does? Hollywood dramatizing historical events in historyis not necessarily
considered a bad thing. But how far will Hollywood go to dramatize historical events in order to
entertain the public? With the addition of Hollywood flair, it removes the impact that film had on
Spartacus according to historical accuracy.
Robert Rosenstone, a professor of California Institute of Technology, has written many different
genres from history, fiction, poetry, etc., has said, historical film has been making its impact upon
us for many years now, and its time that we began to take it seriously. By this I mean we must

A Lost City Found Among The Coral Reefs Of The Pacific
A lost city found among the coral reefs of the Pacific, Nan Mandol is now ruins adjacent to the
eastern shore of the island of Pohnpei that once was the capital of the Saudeleur Dynasty until
1628 (Ayres et al. 1992). Recently, a research group from the Southern Methodist University led by
Mark D. McCoy found the earliest direct evidence of monument building at Nan Madol(McCoy et
al. 2016). This is a significant discovery that pushes back the initial age of dynasty in the Pacific
over 100 years, and provides anthropologist a new way to study the evolution of society. Before
this discovery, scientists had set the date for the first dynasty in the Pacific to around 1300 CE.

The age they established was 1180 CE, over 100 years earlier than was previously assumed. The
reason for its enhanced effectiveness is based around measuring the basalt samples carbon 14
content, and comparing it with the carbon 14 activity in modern and background samples. We
report the earliest secure dates on the construction of monumental architecture in the remote islands
of the Pacific located at the site of Nan Madol on Pohnpei Island in Eastern Micronesia. High
precision uranium series dating of coral from the tomb of the Saudeleur Dynasty indicate political
control over the entire island was established by AD 1180 1200 (770 750 yr) (McCoy et al.
2016). This evidence is a strong indicator that Nan Mandol has had significant influence on other
communities within Eastern Micronesia due to its early establishment. According to Clark et al.
(2007), evidence drawn from monumental architecture is one of the greatest indicators for
prehistoric socio political organization. Nan Mandol is therefore opening a door to study the
establishment of kingdoms in the Pacific. The island of Pohnpei is important for two reasons:
First its archaeology, second its geology. First, the date of settlement for Pohnpei has been
estimated at AD 1 (1950 cal yr BP) (Athens et al.1990). According to Hanlon et al. (1988),

Carbon Fiber As A Chemical Compound
Carbon fibre is a chemical compound that is composed of a long chain of carbon atoms bonded to
each other using covalent bonds. The covalent bonds are formed under extreme conditions of heat
and pressure and may combine a carbon compound with a piece of plastic or a polymer. The carbon
occurs in very thin strands that have a diameter smaller than that of a human hair though it is
credited to having the five times the tensile strengthof steel and two times its stiffness although it
the carbon compound has only two thirds the weight of steel. In modern times, carbon fibre is
commercially synthesised in industries as it has a wide variety of applications in tasks requiring
strength while at the same time minimising weight such as in aeroplane body panels.
Fibre glass, on the other hand, is made up of melted glass that is blown, elongated or extruded to
for a string like material. Fibreglass has an advantage over carbon in that the synthetic manufacture
of fibreglass is easier as it does not require high temperatures to be produced. The material,
however, has nearly similar physical properties to carbon regarding strength, weight and modulus of
elasticity.
In this laboratory report, we will investigate the tensile properties of the above two materials.
Introduction
The aim of the lab session was to study the properties of composite materials by testing the
materials in tension. The test composite materials to be tested comprised of carbon and fibreglass

Ventricular Tachycardia Lab
Ventricular Tachycardia
An dysrhythmia of the heart is an irregular heartbeat rhythm. Ventricular tachycardia is an
dysrhythmia in which the lower chambers of the heart, the ventricles, beat unusually fast.
The heart rate is measured with an electrocardiogram, or ECG. This is a machine that measures the
electrical impulses from the patient s heart. This is displayed on a monitor or ECG graph paper. The
boxes on the graph paper measure time. Five small boxes are equal to one large box. The large
box represents two tenths of a second.
The atrial contraction is represented by the P wave. This is an upward, or positive wave of the line

The SA node is the primary pacemaker of the heart. It starts the heartbeat by spontaneously
contracting, causing the rest of the heart to contract in a wave.
The wave spreads through the atria before reaching the atrioventricular node, or AV node, located
just above the right ventricle. The AV node focuses the wave into the ventricles, contracting the
ventricles. Should the SA node fail, the AV node can take over as the primary pacemaker at a rate
of forty to sixty beats per minute.
Should both the SA node and the AV node fail, there is a tertiary pacemaker, the perkinje fibers.
Perkinje fibers are located near the bottom of the ventricles and can stimulate contraction at a rate
of twenty to forty beats per minute.
If the perkinje fibers or the AV node becomes irritated, they can begin contraction of the ventricles
at speeds well above normal. Other causes of ventricular tachycardia include heart disease and
medications.
When the ventricles are contracting at a rate greater than one hundred beats per minute, the heart
becomes inefficient. Blood cannot properly fill the ventricular chambers before it is forced out.
This decreases the amount of oxygenated blood circulating through the body.
The lack of oxygen in the body causes the heart to attempt to pump more blood, forcing the
ventricles to work even harder. Should the

the environment, his pragmatic method to enforce stricter gun control policies, and his constructive
outlook on reforming illegal immigration policies. Biden, an alumnus of the University of
Delaware and Syracuse Law School, was elected to the United StatesSenate at age 29. He served as

Assume that the federal government has imposed an increase in the gasoline tax of 50 cents per
gallon, effective in three months. How might a motel franchise headquarters organization
estimate the effect on demand that this new tax would have for their member motels, which are
located in all parts of the country? How could a restaurant chain organization operating turnpike
food services make such an estimate? How could a regional airline? Increasing the gasoline tax
of 50 cents would definitely reduce the amount of gasoline brought and sold, and this can have a
huge impact for a motel franchise whether if the demand or supply is perfectly inelastic. For a
restaurant, we will be looking at raising the price of the food and also implying taxes on shipping
food cost. As for the regional airline, a slight increase of the airline ticket will be applied as a sort
of taxes (example September 11 fee). The tax revenue will rise and the increase of the tax gasoline
will also increase government tax revenues.Case Problem: 2

Female Gothic As A Literary Era Of Gothic Literature
The term gothic serves as the ideal backdrop for a literary era of suspense, mystery, and terror. A
haunted mansion bursting with secrets, a naГЇve helpless heroine, and the male hero that saves the
day are all quintessentially gothic. When Ellen Moers first coined the term Female Gothic in her
1976 book, Literary Women, she defined it as the work that women writers have done in the literary
mode that, since the eighteenth century have been termed Gothic (Moers). Her argument that
Female Gothic literature is a code for women s fear of domestic entrapment, especially within their
own bodies as was mainly experienced in childbirth and motherhood, was quite influential. Anne
Williams, in her book The Art of Darkness: A Poetics of Gothic, argues that Female Gothic can be
further dissected to include its intention to criticize the patriarchy while educating and socializing
its female readers with an affirmation of absolute independence and strength. The Female Gothic is
often pursued and haunted by a villainous patriarchal figure, but finds salvation on her own accord
and more importantly, within herself. Another element of Female gothic is madness and
monstrosity as an explanation for why the female would deviate from the conventional norm.
Gerald s Game, an adaptation of a Stephen King novel by the same title, can be analyzed from the
Female Gothic lens, suggesting that the gothic literature mechanisms can also be applied to
contemporary tales of female strength and

car requires you to use both feet. The clutch allows you to shift into another gear and turn on the
car. Now that you have an understanding of the clutch, turning on the car will be no problem. To
turn on the car, leave the shifter in neutral (you know it is in neutral when you can wiggle the
shifter knob) put your right foot on the brake, press the clutch with your left foot and turn the
key. When the car turns on, take your foot off the clutch. A common mistake people make is
riding the clutch, or keeping your foot on the clutch too long, which causes the clutch to burn
out. Now, you want to put it in gear to make the car go. To make the car go, press the clutch with
your left foot, shift to 1st gear, press the gas a little and slowly take your foot off the clutch while
giving it a little more gas. Now that you have the car going, pay close attention to the RPM gauge.
A common RPM gauge is shown

Poverty Of Poverty And Poverty
About 22,000 children die each day as a result of poverty ( Child Mortality Rate Drops ). On their
website, The World Bank calculated that the amount of people living in extreme poverty was
likely to fall below ten percent in 2015. Even though the poverty rate has decreased, there are still
many people living in extreme poverty. One billion children in the world live in poverty and
organizations like Compassion International are helping give them a new life ( Poverty Facts and
Stats ).
What is poverty? There are two specific aspects of poverty. The first aspect is material poverty.
This is the lack of life sustaining materials. Many people do not have the resources or money to
obtain these materials. Examples of these materials would be clean water or nutritious foods.
The second aspect of poverty is spiritual poverty. People living in spiritual poverty have no way
of hearing about the gospel. They do not have churches or missionaries in their villages to tell
them the good news of God. There is a large number of children living in both of these types of
poverty and are searching for ways to escape them. One of the main reasons why poverty is so
prevalent in the world is because people are ignorant and selfish. They would rather spend their
money on expensive cars and clothes than help buy clothes to dress a child who has nothing at all.
Another reason why poverty is so prevalent is because there are not enough job opportunities for
people to support their children. With no

The German Invasion Of Poland
Introduction The German invasion of Poland on September 1st 1939, was an experimental display
of the most advanced and intense form of warfare the world had ever seen. With such a drastic use
of power and with aspirations expanding so wide, the German Wehrmacht 1, along with the Soviet
Union and a small Slovak contingent, soon escalated a central European battle into a global
conflict. The target of Poland, for such an experiment had been strategically chosen as a
geographical and logistical advantage, a self proclaimed repossession of pre World War one land
ownership, and an eastern front barrier with Germanys newly established pact/ally (via the Molotov
Ribbentrop Pact), the USSR. The concept of Blitzkrieg warfare had been developed by tactical
lessons learned during and most influentially, toward the end of World War One. When combined
with technological innovations developed until the advent of World War two, Nazi Germanywould
possess a devastating brainchild that would eventually grow into the Shock and Awe technique of
combat that we see today.2 The execution of the invasion hailed the Germans with the overall
victory they sought, however their technique of the experiment were far from calibrated. The
invading German army received heavy and unanticipated losses from Polish defenders, even though
Polish defense lines fell within two days of initial invasion. Motivated by the protection of their
people and the sanctity of the newly established country of Poland

Mise High Scene Analysis
3.3 Technique
Twin Peaks uses breaks of conventions of mise en scene frequently. In episode eight of season
two, several figures of the police force are lined up and the camera has a steady angle for minutes
. Gordon Cole walks from person to person, shaking their hands and thanking them for their great
work. The scene looks unnatural and the steady camera reinforces this impression. It looks like
someone filmed a boss from a company thanking his employees, which is what actually is
happening: The director is thanking his actors for good work. The scene is unnecessary for the plot
and does not relate to anything else during the story which is also an indicator that through the use
of an unconventional mise en scene, a scene which parallel ... Show more content on

Lester Nygaard is chased by the police on a snowmobile, which is a common scene in action
movies such as James Bond. The picture follows the conventions of mise en scene, showing the
fast vehicles and the tension in the faces of the characters with cuts from many different camera
angles. According to the rules of mise en scene, a fast and action packed music would be fitting
for such a chase. In its place though, the filmmakers used a slow, melancholic and cautious music.
Sound and action are in contrast and the rules of mise en scene, which Sergei Eisenstein called
synchronization of sound (The Film Sense 1974: 69), are again contradicted. So, Fargo works
with contrasts of expected events due to certain compositions of mise en scene while Twin Peaks
over stylizes scenes and lets the director himself explain techniques of how a picture is composed.
With those different approaches, both series revise conventional use of

Essay On Boron On Semen Quality
to boron on semen quality was conducted on boars. Supplemental dietary boron enhanced sperm
velocity characteristics and possibly normal morphology without influencing other measures of
sperm production and semen quality (Korkmaz et al., 2011). The boron group s abstinence time
was found to be longer than that of the control group (Naghii and Saman, 1997a). Korkmaz et al.,
(2011) diagnosed oligozoospermia for one of the first two semen samples while the other had a
diagnosis of asthenozoospermia; both cases were accompanied by varicocele. These findings
indicate that for both the boronand control groups, exposure to boron does not play any significant
role in the cases of incompatibility with the normal semen profile. Korkmaz et al.,... Show more

Boron added to the extender had no negative effect on the post thaw motility values and also
increases progressive motility. With respect to all the extenders spermatozoa motility values being
higher than the control group, it can be concluded that this could have positive effects on fertility
(Tirpan and Tekin, 2015). Sodium pentaborate may have provided intracellular energy
requirements especially in freezing and thawing processes. The high motility ratios without the
usage of glucose, which plays an important role in the foreseen energy mechanisms, give rise to
the thought that boron may be used as an energy source for post thaw process. Boron added to the
extender had no negative effect on the post thaw motility values and increases progressive motility.
It can be concluded that different amounts of sodium pentaborate added to the extenders have a
positive effect on semen s fertility ability. In the researchers conducted on humans (Turkez et al.,
2007) and rats (Ince et al., 2010) it was notified that boron element reduces lipid peroxidation and
thus has an antioxidative effect. Similar to these studies, when the data from the moderate boron

Disadvantages Of War
When two people are angry and hurt each other, it is called a fight. When two countries are angry
and try to hurt each other, it is called war. War was fought when two countries are not ready to
solve out their problems by talking together. The Wars Often fought because one country wants
some source or all of the land that another country has. If it wants the land badly enough, it will
fight to try to win it. Sometimes when other countries see this problem, they might get into the war
to protect the country that wants to keep its land. This is how countries involved to protect each
other. It is called forming an alliance. When groups of countries, or alliances, fight, it is
sometimes called a world war. War always never a good thing because people were killed, some
people get hurt, and it all costs a lot of money. But sometimes wars have to be fought because they
want to protect themselves, and they want to protect others from the enemy who sometimes are in
charge of countries.
The armed conflict of the world over is always perceived from the perspective of the person who
engaged in war. The impacts of these conflicts are most often measured in terms of the strategic and

Arthur Merric Bloomfield Boyd Analysis
Arthur Merric Bloomfield Boyd was born on the 24th of April 1920 and was a leading
Australian artist through the late 20th century. Boyd s work ranges from impressionist
renderings of Australian scene to starkly expressionist figuration, and numerous artworks
highlight both genres. His work features humanitarian issues and many themes such as love,
loss and shame. Boyd comes from an artistic family. This had an affect on his artwork as both of
his parents, Merric and Doris Boyd, were potters and painters while his brothers were both artists,
one a sculptor and the other a painter. This artistic influence helped lead him into becoming an
artist as he was exposed to art from a young age. His humanitarian influences and social
conscience came from writers such as Dostoyevsky and Kafka. Boyd was exposed to these writers
by Jewish immigrant artist Yosl Bergner who was his teacher at Melbourne night classes, which
Boyd started attending at age 14 after leaving school. After this time his talent was nurtured by his
grandfather who was a landscape artist.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His work then moved into a distinct period of depictions of fanciful characters in urban settings
after moving to the inner city where he was influenced by his contact with European refugees.
After this he was conscripted where he did not enter active duty but did create expressionistic
wartime artworks. these artworks were considered powerful and painful images of the outcast as
they pictured those not fit for service and the crippled. An example of this is Cripple in smoke
from factory chimney. This artwork pictures a crippled person created out of the smoke from a
nearby chimney. After the war Boyd, together with John Perceval founded a workshop at
Murrumbeena and started to create other forms of art including pottery, ceramic painting and

Dynamic Character In Interpreter Of Maladies
Mr. Kapasi the protagonist of the story Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri is a dynamic
character. A dynamic character is a character that changes while a static character doesn t

aspect of the Das family he notices is that they were all like siblings (Lahiri 449) and he is
surprised that the parents were regularly responsible for anything other than themselves (Lahiri

How To Use Anabolic Steroids
The use of steroids does not only risk the ineligibility of an athlete, but it also can negatively affect
their health mentally and physically. Anabolic steroid use increases strains and tears of the tendons
and ligaments connected to the muscle. These steroids come with a very high price tag. Steroids
affect the joints and create a breakdown in the joint area because the muscle that s being built puts
tremendous amount of stress on the joints. So, although the muscles may grow and the athlete may
have unbelievable power and strength gains, in the long run, it is just going to put a tremendous
amount of stress on the joints (Kuhn). Many athletes do not realize how much strain they actually
put on their muscles, and they tend to take larger amounts of these substances.... Show more content

Anabolic steroids are also known to increase the number of red blood cells, increase the factors
in the blood that produce blood clots, and can increase blood pressure by causing fluid

Anabolic steroids have been known to cause an increased sense of wellbeing, and at toxically
high doses hypomania, which is an elevation of mood and a need to always be active, which is a
mental disease. Even with the idea that the use of these drugs can cause mental diseases, it is not
known to be addictive. Since it can cause hypomania, it is likely that once an athlete has stopped
taking these steroids, they become very depressed. Taylor Hooton was a normal high school student

Why Is Adrienne Rich Claiming An Education Summary
In Adrienne Rich s essay, Claiming an Education , the author speaks about the female experience
against the male dominated academic scene. Despite the fact that this essay was written in 1979, a
number of Rich s points seem timeless. Rich encourages young women to insist on a life of
meaningful work. As a seventeen year old student, I have often heard from my femalecompanions
that they anticipate a higher educationas an opportunity to hunt down a spouse. The frequency
and zeal of this conclusion, seeing education only as means of marriage, strikes me as
particularly pitiful and archaic. Adrienne Rich s thesis in Claiming an Education aptly expresses
the array of roles women hold in societies, the benefits, and weaknesses of our education system,
as well as the struggles that women are exposed to. She successfully develops her thesis statement
by the effective use of a variety of methods of development and various literary devices to improve
her writingquality and to help readers interpret her message. I agree with Rich s thesis statement
because education entails being responsible for oneself, not just for women, but for all students.
Rich uses effective methods of development to further expand her thesis statement. The use of
compare and contrast and definition is seen in certain sections of the essay. Comparing and
contrasting illuminates the subtle differences and similarities, which increases the reader s
understanding. For instance, Rich compares the definitions

can transmit data over longer distances. Fiber optic cables support world s internet, telephone
systems and cable television. Fiber optic cables transmit signals using pulses of light generated
by light emitting diodes (LEDs) or tiny lasers. The cable consists of one or more strands of
glass, each only slightly thicker than a human hair. The center of each strand is called the core.

Ruling Into The Experience Machine
When first asked about whether or not I would get in the experience machine, I was confused and
torn between the two choices. On one hand, I could plug into the machine and go through whatever
experience I wanted and simply live it out in the machine. This is extremely tempting due to the
absence of responsibility what person wouldn t wantto go at least 2 years without having to worry
about any job, school, or other duties to stress them out? It is also tempting because of the
opportunity to be able to experience many things that probably would not be possible in the real
world for the common person (like me). Imagine being able to experience and have the memory of
an exciting and adventurous activity such as climbing Mt. Everest, without having to be in any
actual danger or pay for any of the expensive costs that are associated with such an adventure....

sort of way is not part of that plan. It also seems as if my life would be a waste if I spent even as
little as 2 years in the machine. Instead of spending the 2 years meeting real new people or going
through a real experience, you would just sit in the machine getting experiences that are solely for
your own pleasure and have no actual meaning in the real

relatively abstract ideas that address the phenomenon of clinical interest to the project as well as to
the discipline of nursing. The concept of interest for this EBP is self management (SM).
Improvements in self management (SM) as a result of an evidence based depression care

  • 5. Analysis Of The Sighet Ghettos In Night By Elie Wiesel In Night, Elie Wiesel descriptively shares his Holocaust experience in each part of his survival. From the ghettos to the Death March and liberation, Elie Wiesel imparts his story of sadness, suffering and struggle. Specifically Wiesel speaks about his short experience in the Sighet ghettos. Ghettos were implemented early on in the Holocaustfor the purpose of segregating and concentrating the Jews before deportation to concentration camps and death camps. Depending on the region, ghettoization ranged from several days to multiple years before deportation. All Jews in ghettos across Europe would eventually face the same fate: annihilation ( Ghettos ). Wiesel s accurate account of the Sighet ghettos illustrates the poor living conditions, the Judenrat and Jewish life in the ghetto as well as the design and purpose of the two Sighet ghettos. Wiesel s description of the Sighet ghettos demonstrates the similar characteristics between the Sighet ghettos and other ghettos in Germany and in German occupied territories in addition to the differences between the various ghettos. The Jews of the Sighet ghettos remained within the ghettos only for a short period of time. As a result, they never encountered starvation or mass death as experienced in other ghettos. Nevertheless the Jews endured crowded living conditions. The ghettos were relatively small: one in the center of town occupied four streets, and another smaller one extended over several alleyways on the outskirts of town ... • 8. Abnormal Intracellular Zinc Metabolism Caused By... Abnormal Intracellular Zinc Metabolism Caused by Disruption of the TRPL1 TMEM163 Protein Interaction Keywords: Zinc, TRP ion channel, Lysosomes, TMEM163, MLIV Mucolipidosis type IV (MLIV) is a human lysosomal storage disorder characterized early in life by neurodegeneration, visual impairment, low muscle tone, and impaired secretion of gastric acid1. MLIV is caused by loss of function mutations or deletions in the Mucolipin 1 gene2 resulting in the absence or a dysfunctional protein product called transient receptor potential mucolipin 1 (TRPML1) ion channel. TRPML1 consists of six predicted transmembrane (TM) domains with channel features showing inward rectification, and non selective permeability to calcium (Ca2+), zinc (Zn2+), iron (Fe2+), and manganese (Mn2+) 3. Some of the cellular phenotypic characteristics of TRPML1 dysfunction include hyperacidic lysosomes, lysosomal swelling, and lipid accumulation. More recently, irregular levels of specific trace metals have been suggested to contribute to the abnormal cellular phenotype, as well as the progressive cell degeneration associated with TRPML1 dysfunction4. The permeability of Zn2+ to TRPML1 suggests that this ion channel may play a role in Zn2+ regulation. A recent investigation of cytoplasmic Zn2+ accumulation in TRPML1 dysfunctional cells suggests the possibility that this protein may normally function to transfer Zn2+ from the lysosome to the cytoplasm5. Other studies suggest a significant increase of Zn2+ in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Yoga and the Mind Conquer the mind and you can conquer anything. That is a popular saying amongst Yogis (yoga instructors) very few people recognize the truth and meaning behind this statement. There is a clear connection between the health benefits associated with yoga having to do with the body, power strength, balance, flexibility. Few people are aware of the multiple benefits it can serve for the brain and mindas well. Is there a clear benefit and connection between mind and body when practicing yoga? Yoga can supposedly improve depressive symptoms and immune function, as well as decrease chronic pain, reduces stress, and lower blood pressure. These claims have all been made by yogis over the years, and it sounds like a lot of new age foolishness. Surprisingly, however, everything in that list is supported by scientific research. (psychologytoday.com) The main struggle in yoga is to overcome the challenge, each pose is challenging, and your goal is to breathe and remain calm throughout the struggle and to find your inner peace and keep going. This is a strong concept to conquer; the mind of course often does whatever it wants. The true gain one finds is when one does overcome the struggle; it is the process where one benefits. Which creation/character do you find most frightening and why? Evil features in both В‘Dracula and В‘Frankenstein but the personification of this evil is different in both novels. A feeling of menace and doom pervades В‘Draculabecause of his supernatural powers. One feels that he has control of the evil and he has the power to manipulate the environment and people for his own ends. Mina realises this and pleads with the men to not tell her anything that might give their plans away. I found Dracula particularly vivid in detail, this contributed to making the novel more frightening, the horror and blood filled images were described so brilliantly that I could not help but imagine them. Her white night dress was smeared with blood, and a thin stream trickled down the man s bare breast, which was shown by his torn open dress. The attitude of the two had a terrible resemblance to a child forcing a kitten s nose into a saucer of milk to compel it to drink. This horrifying scene continues, His eyes flamed red with devilish passion, his aquiline nose opened wide and quivered at the edges; and the white sharp teeth, behind the full lips of the blood dripping mouth, champed together like those of a wild beast. In В‘Frankenstein the monster does not wish to spill blood and uses strangulation as his only method of killing, the murder scenes are not described in as much horrific detail and this leads to a less frightening view of the novel. To me, Dracula is a corrupt person, devoid of any human feelings, he does not wish to and cannot feel compassion for any other living soul, he is completely self involved and lives a solitary life, the only companions of his kind are the three female vampires. Indirect tax it tax that increases the price of a good, so that consumers are actually paying the tax by paying more for the products. An indirect tax is most often thought of as a tax that is shifted from one taxpayer to another, by way of an increase in the price of the good. Fuel, liquor and cigarette taxes are all considered examples of indirect taxes, as many argue that the tax is actually paid by the end consumer, by way of a higher retail price. Those taxes include VAT and duties. There are some arguments that those taxes can be either positive or negative to economic progression. As we can see there are two different types of indirect taxes. One is inelastic and other is elastic. They differ because of their steepness of grading, representing the demand curve. In this case sugar would be some kind of hybrid, because it is not fully addiction substance, but many people can t imagine day without one. When the demand is inelastic consumer have to spend more money on the tax than producer, which makes government to raise most revenue. However this would decrease a really small percent of consumers, which will not be willing to buy this item. In high income countries, small for gestational age (SGA) and pre term birth (PTB) are among the most prevalent of these outcomes and have been variously associated with antiretroviral treatment, ethnicity/race, psychosocial risk and lack of prenatal care. While evidence demonstrates that both medical and social factors contribute to LBW and PTD, risk factors for HIV positive women in Ottawa, Canada, have not been well described. King begins by comparing the functionality of a dream to a mirror I ve always used dreams the way you d use a mirror to look at something you couldn t see head on . By using this idea of dreams being like mirrors, King is able to alleviate his writer s block by depicting his dreams directly onto paper. An example would be when King had already written seven to eight hundred pages of his novel which he could not seem to finish. Then later reveals how a nightmare provoked the ending, he states how he woke up frightened yet at the same time relieved he d finished the book. According to King all he had to do at this point was to take his dream and transfer it to paper. Without a doubt, King s personal experiences can justify why he believes dreams are a way that people s minds illustrate the nature of their problems. Or maybe even illustrates the answer to their problem in symbolic language . After reading Stephen King s essay, it is easy to conclude that his dreams are extremely valuable to his writing. King makes it clear that he has a consistent writing habit, but an unpredictable though process. King also believes that a strong writer can dream while awake. She, or anyone that retains the position of the presidency, does not have the authority to enact immigration policy under the nation s constitution and thus violates the separation of powers doctrine as outlined by our Founding Fathers in Federalist Paper #47. In the case at bar, there are four questions that must be answered: (1) Does this case deal with a non justiciable issue? (2) Does the Commerce Clause give congress authority over immigration policy? (3) Does Congress power to establish a uniform rule of naturalization give it authority over immigration? And (4) Does the Take Care Clause allow the president to change US immigration despite the previously mentioned congressional powers? At the end of this argument, I hope your honors will decide that the case at bar deals with a justiciable issue and that the president s actions are deemed a violation of the constitution of the United States. The reason for its enhanced effectiveness is based around measuring the basalt samples carbon 14 content, and comparing it with the carbon 14 activity in modern and background samples. We report the earliest secure dates on the construction of monumental architecture in the remote islands of the Pacific located at the site of Nan Madol on Pohnpei Island in Eastern Micronesia. High precision uranium series dating of coral from the tomb of the Saudeleur Dynasty indicate political control over the entire island was established by AD 1180 1200 (770 750 yr) (McCoy et al. 2016). This evidence is a strong indicator that Nan Mandol has had significant influence on other communities within Eastern Micronesia due to its early establishment. According to Clark et al. (2007), evidence drawn from monumental architecture is one of the greatest indicators for prehistoric socio political organization. Nan Mandol is therefore opening a door to study the establishment of kingdoms in the Pacific. The island of Pohnpei is important for two reasons: First its archaeology, second its geology. First, the date of settlement for Pohnpei has been estimated at AD 1 (1950 cal yr BP) (Athens et al.1990). According to Hanlon et al. (1988), ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Carbon Fiber As A Chemical Compound Carbon fibre is a chemical compound that is composed of a long chain of carbon atoms bonded to each other using covalent bonds. The covalent bonds are formed under extreme conditions of heat and pressure and may combine a carbon compound with a piece of plastic or a polymer. The carbon occurs in very thin strands that have a diameter smaller than that of a human hair though it is credited to having the five times the tensile strengthof steel and two times its stiffness although it the carbon compound has only two thirds the weight of steel. In modern times, carbon fibre is commercially synthesised in industries as it has a wide variety of applications in tasks requiring strength while at the same time minimising weight such as in aeroplane body panels. Fibre glass, on the other hand, is made up of melted glass that is blown, elongated or extruded to for a string like material. Fibreglass has an advantage over carbon in that the synthetic manufacture of fibreglass is easier as it does not require high temperatures to be produced. The material, however, has nearly similar physical properties to carbon regarding strength, weight and modulus of elasticity. In this laboratory report, we will investigate the tensile properties of the above two materials. Introduction The aim of the lab session was to study the properties of composite materials by testing the materials in tension. Ventricular tachycardia is an dysrhythmia in which the lower chambers of the heart, the ventricles, beat unusually fast. The heart rate is measured with an electrocardiogram, or ECG. This is a machine that measures the electrical impulses from the patient s heart. This is displayed on a monitor or ECG graph paper. The boxes on the graph paper measure time. Five small boxes are equal to one large box. The large box represents two tenths of a second. The atrial contraction is represented by the P wave. The SA node is the primary pacemaker of the heart. It starts the heartbeat by spontaneously contracting, causing the rest of the heart to contract in a wave. The wave spreads through the atria before reaching the atrioventricular node, or AV node, located just above the right ventricle. The AV node focuses the wave into the ventricles, contracting the ventricles. Should the SA node fail, the AV node can take over as the primary pacemaker at a rate of forty to sixty beats per minute. Should both the SA node and the AV node fail, there is a tertiary pacemaker, the perkinje fibers. Perkinje fibers are located near the bottom of the ventricles and can stimulate contraction at a rate of twenty to forty beats per minute. If the perkinje fibers or the AV node becomes irritated, they can begin contraction of the ventricles at speeds well above normal. Other causes of ventricular tachycardia include heart disease and medications. When the ventricles are contracting at a rate greater than one hundred beats per minute, the heart becomes inefficient. Blood cannot properly fill the ventricular chambers before it is forced out. This decreases the amount of oxygenated blood circulating through the body. The lack of oxygen in the body causes the heart to attempt to pump more blood, forcing the ventricles to work even harder. Should the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Female Gothic As A Literary Era Of Gothic Literature The term gothic serves as the ideal backdrop for a literary era of suspense, mystery, and terror. A haunted mansion bursting with secrets, a naГЇve helpless heroine, and the male hero that saves the day are all quintessentially gothic. When Ellen Moers first coined the term Female Gothic in her 1976 book, Literary Women, she defined it as the work that women writers have done in the literary mode that, since the eighteenth century have been termed Gothic (Moers). Her argument that Female Gothic literature is a code for women s fear of domestic entrapment, especially within their own bodies as was mainly experienced in childbirth and motherhood, was quite influential. Anne Williams, in her book The Art of Darkness: A Poetics of Gothic, argues that Female Gothic can be further dissected to include its intention to criticize the patriarchy while educating and socializing its female readers with an affirmation of absolute independence and strength. The Female Gothic is often pursued and haunted by a villainous patriarchal figure, but finds salvation on her own accord and more importantly, within herself. Another element of Female gothic is madness and monstrosity as an explanation for why the female would deviate from the conventional norm. Gerald s Game, an adaptation of a Stephen King novel by the same title, can be analyzed from the Female Gothic lens, suggesting that the gothic literature mechanisms can also be applied to contemporary tales of female strength and ... Many people do not have the resources or money to obtain these materials. Examples of these materials would be clean water or nutritious foods. The second aspect of poverty is spiritual poverty. People living in spiritual poverty have no way of hearing about the gospel. They do not have churches or missionaries in their villages to tell them the good news of God. There is a large number of children living in both of these types of poverty and are searching for ways to escape them. One of the main reasons why poverty is so prevalent in the world is because people are ignorant and selfish. • 50. Why Is Adrienne Rich Claiming An Education Summary In Adrienne Rich s essay, Claiming an Education , the author speaks about the female experience against the male dominated academic scene. Despite the fact that this essay was written in 1979, a number of Rich s points seem timeless. Rich encourages young women to insist on a life of meaningful work. As a seventeen year old student, I have often heard from my femalecompanions that they anticipate a higher educationas an opportunity to hunt down a spouse. The frequency and zeal of this conclusion, seeing education only as means of marriage, strikes me as particularly pitiful and archaic. Adrienne Rich s thesis in Claiming an Education aptly expresses the array of roles women hold in societies, the benefits, and weaknesses of our education system, as well as the struggles that women are exposed to. She successfully develops her thesis statement by the effective use of a variety of methods of development and various literary devices to improve her writingquality and to help readers interpret her message. I agree with Rich s thesis statement because education entails being responsible for oneself, not just for women, but for all students. Rich uses effective methods of development to further expand her thesis statement. The use of compare and contrast and definition is seen in certain sections of the essay. Comparing and contrasting illuminates the subtle differences and similarities, which increases the reader s understanding. For instance, Rich compares the definitions ... The fusion splicers need periodic maintenance which involves regular cleaning, occasional replacement and electrode alignment. 6.Fusion splicing is mainly used with single mode fiber unlike mechanical splicing which works for single mode fiber as well as multi mode fiber. Apparatus required Fusion Splicer A fiber optic fusion splicer is a device that uses an electric arc to melt two optical fibers together at their end faces, to form a one long fiber. The resulting joint, or fusion splice, permanently joins the two glass fibers end to end. Therefore, optical light signals will transmit from one fiber into the other with very little loss. Fiber Cleaver Fiber cleaver that scribes and breaks (cleaves) the fibers to be spliced exactly, because the quality of the splice will depend on the quality of the cleave. On one hand, I could plug into the machine and go through whatever experience I wanted and simply live it out in the machine. This is extremely tempting due to the absence of responsibility what person wouldn t wantto go at least 2 years without having to worry about any job, school, or other duties to stress them out? It is also tempting because of the opportunity to be able to experience many things that probably would not be possible in the real world for the common person (like me). Imagine being able to experience and have the memory of an exciting and adventurous activity such as climbing Mt. Everest, without having to be in any actual danger or pay for any of the expensive costs that are associated with such an adventure.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main reason to not plug into the experience machine, for me, would be that it goes against my religious views as a Christian. God has a plan for everyone and I feel like spending two years in a machine that only gives me the pleasure of certain events without affecting the world in any sort of way is not part of that plan. It also seems as if my life would be a waste if I spent even as little as 2 years in the machine. Instead of spending the 2 years meeting real new people or going through a real experience, you would just sit in the machine getting experiences that are solely for your own pleasure and have no actual meaning in the real ... The Conceptual-Theoretical-Empirical (CTE) Introduction The Conceptual Theoretical Empirical (CTE) structure for this evidence based project (EBP) highlights the importance of self management from a self regulation and health promotion standpoint. The conceptual component of the CTE framework for this EBP refers to a set of relatively abstract ideas that address the phenomenon of clinical interest to the project as well as to the discipline of nursing. The concept of interest for this EBP is self management (SM). Improvements in self management (SM) as a result of an evidence based depression care management intervention will be assessed. The theoretical structure is utilized to provide propositions that narrow down and describe the concept in relatively concrete and specific terms... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the end of the trial, the authors concluded that a self regulation intervention can improve asthma control, quality of life, and healthcare utilization in older ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
