evening, especially a time for relax
messy (adj.)
untidy or dirty
Ex. Cats are messy.

Ex. It’s kind of boring.
ferret (n.)
a small animal with a
long thin body
Ex. I saw a ferret.
Structure
Past simple tense
The simple past is used to talk about
a completed action in a time before now
You always use the simple past when you
say when something happened, so it is
about certain past time expressions:
frequency: often, sometimes, always
EX. I usually cleaned the house.
a definite point in time: last week, yesterday, six weeks ago
EX. I walked up the mountain on Sunday afternoon.
an indefinite point in time:
the other day, ages ago, a long time ago
EX. People lived in caves a long time ago.
AFFIRMATIVE
- I went for a walk up themountain.
- It was a beautiful sunnyday.
With most verbs the past tense is formed by adding -ed:
call >> called, like >> liked
Irregular verbs change their form in some other way:
see >> saw, drink >> drank
- I walkedup the mountain.
- When did you meet your wife?
- Where did you go for your holidays?
- Did she play tennis when she was younger?
- Did you live abroad?
INTERROGATIVE
We use did to make questions with the past tense:
For the negative and interrogative form
of all verbs in the simple past, always use
the auxiliary 'did''.
NEGATIVE
We use didn’t (did not) to make negatives with
the past tense:
- They didn’t go to Spain this year.
- We didn’t get home until very late last night.
- I didn’t see you yesterday.

Yeah. It’s kind of boring, but I have to clean the bathroom and then the
kitchen, and then the lounge room because I have lots of cats. And the cats
leave hair everywhere. So I always have to clean on Saturday mornings.
Josh: Yes, cats are messy. So what did you do on Sunday?
Shirley: Well, Sunday afternoon, I went for a walk up the mountain.
It was a beautiful sunny day. There were no clouds in the sky.
