This document provides an overview of an introduction to reference and information services course being taught at San Jose State University in Fall 2010. It includes: - Background on the instructor Lori Bell and her experience in various library settings - An outline of fundamental concepts and processes in reference work - Descriptions of the responsibilities and essential skills of reference librarians - An assignment for students to work in partners to create a pathfinder on a topic and for a particular library or audience - An overview of components of the reference process and developing professional skills.
