Textual Analysis Assignment
For this assignment I decided to analyze a sculpture that is currently standing on
SIUE s campus. The sculpture is located near Peck Hall, and can be described as a
large iPhone that appears to have a cracked home screen. I decided to use this
sculpture for a facet of reasons. The first reason being that it illustrates the issues
humanity has with using technology. Another reason I decided to use this image is it
what the first sculpture on campus that lead me to think critically about how it
represents the culture on campus. The final reason behind my selection of this image
is that this is one of the more popular sculptures on campus among my peers.
Throughout this essay I will be explaining how the sculpture I chose relates to the

In a similar fashion to the interview that I conducted before, I began by asking her
what she thought the sculpture says about our culture. She responded by claiming
that since the artwork was created by a student that the sculpture was a product of
SIUE as a sub culture. She went on to say that the shattered screen likely has
something to do with technology failing humanity. She elaborated by saying that she
thought the cracked screen illustrated the flaws of technology. She concluded by
saying that as technology continues to advance there will always be flaws. In
comparison, my professor s perception to the sculpture and mine were very
Preparing A Brownie Pie
The best part of any meal is at the end. A good dessert can hurt or make a meal. A
good pie or a hot brownie with vanilla ice cream could be an excellent ending to a
nice meal. To make the end of the meal really delicious why not combine to two
into one. To end your meal in an amazing way mix, bake, and devour a brownie pie.
When baking a brownie pie having the right ingredients is a must. Having a good
pie crust is essential. Pillsbury pie crust will work and taste the best. Leave the crust
in the freezer until one hour before making the pie. While it is defrosting start
mixing the ingredients for the pie. The ingredients needed for the brownie pie are: 2
cups sugar, 2 cups cocoa, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, Вј all purpose flour, 2 sticks of
melted butter and a pinch of salt. Once all the necessary ingredients have been added
to the mixing bowl, it s time to bake the pie.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

place the pie back in the oven and let it bake for 45 minutes. When the time is up
take a toothpick and stick the middle of the pie. When you remove the toothpick if
there is any brownie stuck to it then the pie is not done. The toothpick should come
out looking just like when it went in. if there is filling stuck then let the pie bake 5

Persuasive Essay On Belief
Belief having an affinity in believing something is true. This single word, vague,
and short. As submissive as it is, Belief tends to get on roads that it never means
to. The road diverges into two, and a choice has to be made. Manipulation passes, and
it takes a hold of Belief. Without any knowledge, he willingly follows. This is the
basis of a belief. I love the manipulation angle. Usually I think of belief as such a
positive, hopeful word. But you are right... it is equally dangerous. Good. The basis
of belief, has been shattered explain a bit. By what? How so? . All the pieces of it
have been scattered everywhere. You can t do much with a puzzle piece if you don t
know where it goes, so get ready to visualize. Visualize the perfect end point for your
belief, whether it s a 5 piece or an 1000 piece puzzle. It always makes sense to start
with the corner pieces first, so we are going to do that.
Transition a bit more fully here? So what is cognitive bias then? It is what makes
our minds believe things, without even giving us a choice. These mechanisms in our
head cause us to make usually biased and unfair decision, which is why it s
important to be aware of them. Take the idea of bandwagoning of course, the most
known bias. This is where you just do what everyone else is doing, without any
personal regard to yourself or to anyone else, all because someone else is doing it.
You may think that you aren t susceptible, but everyone is because it happens
subliminally. and
Effects Of Legalizing Marijuana
There are many great effects on the legalization of marijuana. Marijuana can help
with Medical issues. Marijuana also has different street names like pot, weed, gas,
and etc. Legalizing weed is a controversial topic to all. This paper will compare the
pros like reducing cancer and tax revenue and cons like memory loss of legalizing
marijuana. People want it illegal, others want it legal. Preferably marijuana shall be

Colleges Vs Independent Colleges
According to the latest U.S. Census, 33.4 percent of Americans (just over 105
million people) reported having a bachelors degree; only ten years ago this number
was 28 percent; in 1940, 4.6 percent (Wilson). With this in mind, the importance of
secondary education becomes self evident. Where people decide to obtain their
educationwill ultimately influence the rest of their lives. The common struggle of
choice appears between universities and independent colleges (those not under
authority of universities). Both have upsides and downsides as well as similarities
and differences that can make the choice difficult. An effective way to choose
between attending a universityor college, however, is to consider the focus of the
school, offered programs,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Colleges and universities are largely the same and contain very few differences.
How a student will choose a school will depend on what criterion will they hold. If
they wish to stay in one place throughout their post secondary education, are not
that concerned with tuition, and/ or love social aspects of the college experience ,
a university may be the best bet. If a student is not concerned with moving from
school to school, holds what they pay in high esteem, and/or is not too concerned
with socialization, a college may be the best fit. There may also be a compromise,
where someone gets an under graduate degree from a college, and decides to further
their education at a university. Regardless of where someone decides to take their
education past high school, it is still a win for our country and our global society.
Every waking moment there are more and more people that hold college degrees and
essentially make a further educated society that can continue to

A Broadway Dream Book Analysis
Picture it. Broadway during the 1920s. Florenz Ziegfeld produces a revue called
Ziegfeld s Follies. Girls appear in elaborate costumes bordering on the risque.
Gangsters are running rampant from Al Capone to Bugs Moran to Machine Gun
Kelly. This is the world in which Agnes Bobbie Storey finds herself.
Agnes family lived in Leaholme until the war nearly closed their inn, forcing them
to find work in London. Shortly afterward, her father dies of Spanish Influenza,
and Agnes is forced to find a job to help support her family. She manages to land a
job at a restaurant belonging to a friend of her father. It is here that she wins The
Most Beautiful Barmaid in London contest. This sparks Andre Charlot to offer her a
spot in his revue that is traveling to Broadway. She immediately accepts, thus
beginning her love affair with fame, success, and New York City.
A Broadway Dream by Jane Hill is a fiction based on the historical person by the
name of Bobbie Storey. Amazon has this correctly classified as historical fiction or
biographical fiction; however, it was incorrectly classified as romance on OBC. The
book is fairly short with only about 200 pages.
It may seem odd, but my favorite part of this story was the ending. I am not familiar
with the history of the 1920s nor the life of Bobbie Storey. Therefore when I read the
ending, I was actually taken aback. To me, the ending contributed to the reality of the
story. It s unfortunate that I cannot share this ending, but I

On the receiving end, the demodulator works by detecting one or both of the
frequencies, often with a band pass filter, regenerating the input signal. You can also
use a signal processor to convert the carrier from time domain to frequency domain
with a fourier transform, and then pick off the signal that way.) The FSK method of
modulating/demodulation is typically limited to low frequency signal rates, such as
300 bits per second
1.2.2: FSK DEMODULATION:
FSK demodulation is the process of recovering the original signal by detecting the
frequencies involved in the original modulation. Typically, this is done with a
bandpass amplifier tuned to one of the two frequencies, followed by a amplitude
demodulator. The output is the original signal. It is possible, though often
unecessary, to use two bandpass ampliers, one for each frequency, but this is
redundant. It is also possible to use a digital signal processing technique to perform a
fourier transform on the input signal, but that can be complex and costly.
This is the method used in very early modems, up to around 1200 baud.
It is also possible, using FSK, to send multiple signals across one line. Simply pick
suitable frequencies for each modulation state, and mix the outputs into one
consolidated analog signal. On the other end, you have multiple bandpass filters
running at the same time and, as long as the chosen frequencies are

INTRODUCTION
The global electricity sector is now facing major challenges i.e. exponentially
increasing electricity demand, fight against climatic changes and increasing trends
towards massive urbanization. The first challenge of ever mounting demands results
in continuous depletion of traditional power generation sources; these are centralized
power generation like thermal power plants i.e. combustion (coal, oil, natural),
nuclear power plants etc. and are not suited for environmental and cost issues. The
second challenge relates to the regulation of Greenhouse gas emission. These gases
are responsible for increasing the global temperature. Two third of the global
emission are carbon emissions linked to the energy sector. The third major... Show

Reduction in the overall costs.
It becomes easier to find the site for small generators.
Gas turbines, internal combustion engines methods for small generators have been
perfected and are widely practiced and others renewable resources like water, wind
solar energies are also finding wider application in recent years.
Proper allocation and sizing of DG will improve the voltage profile of electrical
power system and reduces losses in the system.
Increased utilization of transmission and distribution network capacity because DG s
units are closer to consumers and this will reduces the stress on transmission system.
Combined heat and power group do not require large and expensive heat networks.
DG s installation time is less and investment risks are also not so high.
If DG s are properly allocated, they will improve system reliability and power quality.

Values Of A Warrior Society As Seen In Beowulf
The Values of a Warrior Society As Seen in Beowulf When Nelson Mandela, the
president of South Africa died, thousands of people gathered to say their goodbyes.
It was not a happy and joyous occasion but rather one where people were mourning
of the loss of a great man. They may not have personal known him but they know of
the great things that he has done to make the world a better place. To them, it is what
made his deathdifficult and sad. However, if we lived in a warrior society his death
would not have something to mourn; instead we would celebrate his life. This is seen
in the epic Beowulfas the people of Geatland lay him to rest and celebrate his life.
The celebration reveals that the society knows what a great king is and that... Show

Scyld s funeral is not a somber occasion, but rather a joyous celebration. The people
do not mourn that he is dead but rather rejoice for the life that he led. Their
celebration shows that they do not grieve death. In this warrior society death is
seen as honorable. The one who has died has given the ultimate sacrifice, death, for
their people. They may have followed their leader into battle and died or they may
have died of old age as is the case with Scyld. This is confirmed later on when
Beowulf is speaking Hrothgar on the death of his best thane. Beowulf states, Wise
sir, do not grieve. It is always better to avenge dear ones than to indulge in mourning.
For every one of us, living in this world means waiting for our end. Let whoever
can win glory before death. When a warrior is gone, that will be his best and only
bulwark (lines 1384 89). This statement solidifies what is hinted at earlier on in the
epic during Scyld s funeral. It is part of a heroic code. Death is what comes to
people who have earned it in their dedication to a cause or great warriors who have
earned it. Since death is found to be so honorable, the people do not mourn for the
loss of their king but celebrate his death. Scyld s funeral plays an important role in
discovering what was important to the society at this time including honor in death
and the qualities found in a great
A Guide To The Other Side By Robert Imfeld
Do you know that ghosts are the souls of deceased people wandering around and
spirits are any kind of departed paranormal beings? The book I am reading is titled,
A Guide to the Other Side , and is written by Robert Imfeld. This story is about a 13
year old boy named Baylor Bosco who has the ability to communicate with people
who have crossed over. He also has a twin sister whose name is Kristina Bosco who
guides him through life, teaching him about his gift. One major event that takes place
throughout the entire story is about an entity, named the Sheet Man who decides to
try to send a message to both Kristina and Baylor. This event results in Baylor trying
to figure out if this spiritis evil or in trouble. If I were telling a friend about this
entire story in two minutes, I would tell them that this book is like an episode of the
show GhostAdventures because of the number of ups and downs there are.

I chose this quote because it foreshadows the suspenseful roller coaster of events
that will definitely happen in the story itself. I believe this quote relates to the
theme of this book to never give up and to become independent because Baylor has
to obviously live his life with enough drama in middle school, but even more
because of his gift to solve mysteries. All in all, this quote explains the amount of
electricity this book will certainly take you through, meaning it has you flipping
page after page wondering what s going to happen next, just like if you get

The Cultural Theory Of Masako Odawa s Culture
Masako Odawa was Harvard and Oxford educated, spoke five languages and held a
position as a career diplomat in Foreign Ministry with many possibilities for a
bright future. However, at 29 she gave all that up to marry Crown Prince Naruhito.
Western observers criticized her decision, they viewed her choice as an attack on
her personal freedom since. However, to Japanese, Masako s decision was a natural
consequence of her role, as a daughter and as a member of the royal family. Culture,
thus, plays a crucial role in interpreting a situation. The values of a society influence
the creation of the self concept and choice of the individual. Masako s choice aligned
with the values of her culture. Cultural differences are present when a choice is made
and the interpretation of it. However, to better understand this, this paper will explore
the cultural differences found in self esteemand cognitive dissonance.
The self esteem motive is people s need to see themselves as good, competent and
descent. Self esteem is constructed by the individual, a person s self concept
develops in part by the thinking styles and values of the culture they belong or
identify with. While maintaining a positive self image is the basic tenant, having a
high self of esteem has a myriad of benefits; it protects people against thoughts of
their mortality, let s them feel more optimistic towards the future, motivates people to
persevere in challenging situations, and allows them to set higher goals for
Compare And Contrast Traveling Through The Dark And...
Poetry is a very powerful mechanism through which writers can tell their readers
something about themselves or the world around them. The language used, as well
as other elements within Traveling Through the Dark by William Stafford and
Woodchucks by Maxine Kumin, display the speakers psychology and what sort of
relationships they have with the animals, as well as their deaths in their respective
works. The speakers have arguably polar opposite opinions towards nature and have
different reactions and emotions to their dilemmas. However, these two poems do
have some similar aspects. In Traveling Through the Dark , Stafford uses a simple
and dark word choice to convey the grimness of his speaker s moral dilemma. He

As mentioned before, Traveling Through the Dark showcases the relationship
between man and nature in a more sympathetic and thoughtful way. The speaker
had to make a decision based on the well being of the unborn fawn as well as the
other drivers who may swerve if the doe is left where she was hit. He ultimately
chose to push the deer over the edge after he deliberated within himself. The
speaker wanted to ensure the safety of the other drivers on the road even if it meant
he had to go against what is conventionally right . The moment he pushed the dead
doe off the road, it showed that we cannot always go with what our values and
morals dictate. Meanwhile, the speaker in Woodchucks was anything but
sympathetic to the deaths of the woodchucks. She went from being annoyed to
downright brutal towards the woodchucks in a span of two stanzas. She was
indifferent towards their deaths by the third through fifth stanzas, even going as far
as to describe how the mother looked as she flipflopped in the air... (Line 20). She
felt no remorse for the deaths and only killed to benefit

what tools they used to farm. Animals and tools that were used to farm The ancient
Egyptians used animals and tools to plant and harvest their crops. They had cattle,
goats, pigs, ducks, cows, and geese to help farm. They used these animals to trample

The Two Side Of ArГЄte In Ancient Greece
Although many of the city states in ancient Greece often disagreed and even went to
war with one another, they all followed a similar ideal. This ideal is ArГЄte. ArГЄte
translates simply to excellence of any kind . The Greeks wanted to be the best
possible they could be. They strove to be like the gods. The two sides of this ideal
were wisdom and action. The two largest of the city states, Athens and Greece, each
strongly represent one of those two sides of ArГЄte.
The city state that leans toward wisdom is Athens. To be a man of wisdom, one has
to develop the mind and philosophical abilities. Athens naturally leaned toward
wisdom given that their patron god was Athena, the goddess of wisdom. Athenians

The Case Law On Horizontal Direct Effect Of Directives
The CJEU case law on horizontal direct effect of directives arguably lacks
consistency in regards to the application of the general principle. The principle of
direct effect was established in Van Gend en Loos v. Nederlandse Administratie
der Belastingen. Although there is no set definition of direct effect, a broader
definition was provided in Van Gend en Loos that it can be expressed as the capacity
of a provision of EU law to be invoked before a national court. However, Van Dyun v.
Home Office established that directives are capable of direct effect. Furthermore,
Marshall v. Southampton established that there could only be vertical direct effect
of directives. This stringent principle has arguable ignited the highly contested
debate of whether or not horizontal direct effect is applicable to directives or if
directives could only have vertical direct effect. However, this essay shall explore
the lack of consistency in case law regarding horizontal direct effect of directives.
Firstly, this paper will delve into the case law of the topic of horizontal direct effect
of directives in efforts to try to highlight its consistency in its approach. Secondly, the
paper will use case law and the opinion of academics (enter the name of the academics
later) to highlight its inconsistencies using the legal mechanisms that have been
introduced by the Courts to try to compensate for the lack of horizontal direct effect
of directives. Namely, indirect effect, incidental horizontal
Assessment Of Country Risk And Opportunities
Assessment of Country Risk Opportunities: UAE

The UAE has one of the most diversified economies in the region. Abu Dhabi holds
90% of the Federation s hydrocarbon reserves. A down side of that is that now the
UAE is dependent on the revenues Abu Dhabi can obtain from the reserves. On the
other hand, the service industry in Dubai has been booming, as Dubai has the 7th
largest port in the world and has become the largest business center in the region.
Additionally, there seems to be political stability across the Federation, which
increases the chances of people doing business. There have been reports of the lack

After the decrease on the price of oil, Abu Dhabi was the most affected, which
made investing in the oil industry a priority in order to make the price of oil go
back up. Additionally, the decline of the oil price caused the revenues to decrease,
which created a public deficit for the country. The government, however, is dealing
with the weak budget revenues well as it has implemented a reform of energy
subsidies, deregulation of domestic hydrocarbon price, and finally, it has increased
the price in electricity and water.
In regards to the account balance, it will remain positive but its levels will be
subpar compared to previous years. The opening of the Iranian market this year
will be highly beneficial, as it will incentivize imports in both the oil and non oil
industry. Non oil exports are 60% of the exports of Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The

The beginning of the UAE s central bank can be traced to the the UAE Currency

currency, the Qatari Riyal. During that period of time, the UAE Currency Board
had no central banking powers, and its focus was on UAE s currency, gold, and
foreign exchange. All of that changed in 1980 when a law was passed, which
dissolved the UAE currency and created The Central Bank of the United Arab

MSG Gina R. Aceves Task Organization during Operation Anaconda
The war in the Middle East was in full effect and the United States Central Command
(CENTCOM) already had forces in the Afghanistan area of responsibility (AOR).
These pre positioned troops were the result of intelligence reports that showed the
Taliban and al Qaeda were hiding out in the Shahi Khot valley in Afghanistan.
CENTCOM S poor task organization for the multiple coalition forces on the ground

The lack of tactical control (TACON) with the amount of different forces engaged in
the operation made command authority an issue. (Fleri, Howard, Hukill, Searle, 2013)
The Joint Task Force (JTF) did not have the TACON it should have had with the
SOF. Prior to the start of the JTF Mountain, the SOF operated under the control of
the Joint Special Operations Task Force and bypassed the Joint Commander. SOF
groups needed to be inserted at a time when the air support was not bombing the
valley.
Task force command and control (C2) was a major issue when key staff elements
were not present. The continuing air support need for the attack on the valley
required more air controllers than CENTCOM would allow the JTF to have in the
AOR. Without enough air liaisons for each group they began to us the air control
elements of the Airforce.
Taa 18-22 Case Study
The Army has already established the need for maintaining an operational reserve,
through former and current TAAs, capable of breaching AC capability gaps to meet
joint force requirements. However, the analysis lacks resources to accomplish this
guidance effectively. The demand for RC forces requires generating more operational
unit readiness to fully complement the rotational forcepool to meet the deployment
demand at the same standard as the AC. After conducting a Doctrine, Organization,
Training, Materiel, Leadership and Education, Personnel, Facilities and Policy
(DOTMLPF P) analysis, both overarching recommendations address an identified
capability requirement and associated capability gap that could be mitigated with a
non materiel solution with changes or existing capabilities in five, organization,
training, personnel, facilities, and policy, of the eight functions.
Recommendation: Maintain current RC force structure capacity and capabilities

To implement the recommendations the organization needs to maintain the current
force mix and capability distribution currently allocated in TAA 18 22 and future
TAA 20 24 must maintain a balanced force that would provide necessary flexibility
to maintain an operational reserve. In spite of recent force turbulence, the current
force sizing and rebalance initiatives should stabilize RC formations to preserve the
Army s strategic depth while providing enough balance to complement operational
capabilities across all components. The current force mix and structure appears to
meet current joint demands and the RC cannot afford to reduce the already lean
force if they are to keep up with the operational demand. Leveraging the operational
reserve current capacity is more responsive and less costly than generating new

#12. Identify What Triggers a Flare in You
Every Lupus Warrior has gone through lupus flares in life... How many times?? Not
sure. The lupus symptoms get worse during a flaring accompanied with chronic pain
and fatigue. It is important to understand that these symptoms don t happen to be
active all by themselves. There has to be a trigger or stressor that causes the flare.
As no lupus patients have similar symptoms, they don t have an identical set of
triggers. However, the common triggers include Stress, infection, sun exposure, or
even seasonal flue. When you identify trigger within time, you can put in best efforts

#15. Alcohol; time to be more cautious
When it comes to alcohol, it is advised to have it responsibly. However, when it
comes to a Lupus sufferer things are bit more critical. Undoubtedly, they are
vigilant, but in certain situation that is not enough. If you are on Methotrexate or on
NSAID drugs like naproxen or ibuprofen, alcohol can interfere with the drugs. As a
result either the drugs could work as they were supposed to or in severe cases you
end up with an internal bleeding or an upset stomach.
That is definitely not desirable; consult your doctor to ensure the alcohol part.
#16. Build Your Own Support System
Okay, building seems to be a real hard work. Let s settle down with acquiring the
support. Only a person living with Lupus knows how it is. Constant frustration,
anxiety, depression succumb on a daily basis if you have Lupus or any other chronic
autoimmune disorder.
The only breakthrough of these emotional turbulences would be seeking some
compassionate support. Generally, family, friends, and loved ones serve best to

fighting lupus and helping you to cope up with the Lupus flare ups. Here are few of

What Led To The Downfall Of Rome Dbq
Rome: the world s superpower of the time of Christ, until they became so powerful,
they gave up. Their laziness, corruption, and weakness lead to their demise. This
great empire started as a republic, then a kingdom, and then the blazing empire that
conquered the world. Many things led to their demise, but I have gotten the most
important factors for the downfall of the Empire of Rome. First up, the foreign
invasions that capsized Rome. According to document D, it states what the weak and
lazy roman army was up against. Extremely vicious warriors who slaughtered their
enemies on horseback, with almost no weaknesses, who pillaged the roman empire
until it was nothing but ruins. That was just one group of invaders. According to
document C, there were 3 others that were also extremely difficult to fight. And even
worse for Rome s sake, they came from every direction! This is why Rome had no
chance.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rome eventually got very lazy, and so did its army. According to document B, it
states that the foot soldiers wore breastplates and helmets, but eventually asked to
train without the breastplates, and then the helmets. So eventually, they went head
first into battle with no protection! This proved that the roman army stood no chance
against Germanic tribes/other kingdoms. And you know who s fault that is, the
Emperors themselves! Speaking of which... The most important for last, what I
know is the main factor for the fall of Rome, is bad leadership. According to
document A, there were 22 emperors in 50 years, most of them dying horribly
(assassination, battle, etc.). Bad leadership brings up another main problem in the
empire, Economic problems and corruption. The emperor s blew off gigantic
amounts of money for parties and other useless things, instead of helping the dying
empire. This lead to people taking Justice into their own
The Outsiders Comparison Essay
There is the novel, The Outsiders, and the movie that s being compared and when
being compared the novel is better. There are different examples such as detail, time
frame, imagination, and important scenes that weren t shown in the movie. The
novel is better because it includes more detail such as character development. The
movie skips the first chapter which talks about who the characters are and their
backstory about why they are considered greasers. The novelhas more dialogue
which helps with the story s structure. One example is how the movie only
included the most importants parts and didn t explain how Ponyboy and Johnny
got to the church or how Johnny recovered so quickly. Imagination is an important
part to why the novel is better. Imagination is a big part of the book, The Outsiders,
because you get to hear it the way you want and depict it the way you see the
characters in your head, the movie is the opposite of that since you have to see it in
a fixed point of view of the directors perspective. One example is how they showed
soda without blonde hair and two bit looking short and stubby. When hearing the
story you get to depict how angry or happy someone is. Let s talk about how the time

Monothelitism as Opposed to Dyothelitism
Monothelitism is a subject concerning Jesus having two natures but one will. The
opposing, which is commonly known as Dyothelitism, is the idea that Jesus has both
two natures and two wills. Monothelitism was a heresy that occurred during the 7th
century. (Chapman) This controversy started with Emperor Heraclius who wanted to
unite people under one idea. With the help of Sergius of Constantinople, they got
Pope Honorius to agree with the idea that Christ had one energy. Pope Honorius,
however, was later condemned of heresy. Sophronius, a monk who lived in Palestine,
disagreed with the compromise that was made, he made it clear that he thought that
Dyothelitism was an important aspect of Christianity. In 638, the Emperor responded
to Sophronius ideas with an edict titled Exposition of the Faith which said that
people were no longer permitted to discuss the matter, and that Christ had one will.
( History of the Christian Church... ) There was support for this idea, though there
was resistance as well. Specifically, Maximus Confessor and Pope Martinus. These
two were very strong in their position of support for Dyothelitism. In 648, Emperor
Constans II made an edict titled Type that he hoped would create peace. The edict
called for silence on the topic that was being debated, and took a neutral view on the
subject. The emperor was later informed that Monothelitismhad been declared a
heresy. Constans II, in response to this, imprisoned the pope and made sure he

Analysis Of The Poem The Darkness Within Men By Steve...
12 Years a Slave positions utter beauty between and within scenes of violence and
abjection to inspire poignant reflection; frequent tranquil landscapes emphasize
gruesome acts and remind us of man s capability for despicable amorality. Though
we often like to sequester slavery to a time and a place no longer existent, it was not
19th century Louisiana that committed these heinous acts but rather the privileged
white men who occupied the territory. Louisiana landscapes are and always will be
beautiful; it is man that muddies our retrospective visions. Yet, Steve McQueenallows
us to breathe for the beauty itself often provides relief from horrific previous scenes;
he simply does not create empty breaks. We both reflect on the darkness within men
and wonder exactly how this beauty affects and/or represents the various characters.
The jarring juxtaposition of beauty and abjection inspires psychological introspection
for we are never awarded with beauty from subjective points of view (it is presented
from anonymous angles). The cotton picking scenes and the scene in which Solomon
rows down the river illustrate the jarring effects beauty and abjection create when
presented simultaneously. Both enforce a separation between man and nature and
emphasize the heinous through means of polar comparison, yet also tie visual beauty
to the retention of hope. Beginning with the cotton picking sequences, Steven
McQueen frequently uses a wide far shot and captures the blinding white
Analysis Of The Creation Myth
The Creation Myth is found within Genesis and is about the creation of man, the
first one is named Adam. Adam was created out of dust in God s image. He was
placed within a utopia, the Garden of Eden, with all the provisions he needed to live
in happiness forever. However, this predetermined destiny never came to be. During
this story, we see another character emerge, she is called a woman and is named Eve.
Eve is treated much differently than Adamis, and is blamed for the change in Adam s,
and therefore all human kinds, fate. The reader can see a gender hierarchy emerge
during the creation myth, and notices the difference in treatment between Adam and
Eve. The order of creation is one way to notice the differences in Adam and Eve.
The Lord God created Adam first. He then tells Adam the rules of the Garden of Eden
, He says You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from
the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will
certainly die. (Genesis 2, Adam and Eve). The Lord God then creates Eve, never
telling her the rules of the Garden of Eden. He is given the job of informing Eve of
the rules, this puts him in a position of power and authority over her.
Adam and Eve were created for two different purposes. Adam was created to care for
the Garden of Eden. However, as read in Genesis 2, the Lord God says It is not good
for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him. (Genesis 2, Adam and
Eve.) It is easy

The appraisal is for job performance and a gateway to bring up personal issues
outside of the appraisal documentation. Consequently an employee may become
flustered when the conversation turns personal rather than work related.
Employees may feel that they are being judged on their personal life rather than
their performance and organizational related issues. There may be personal issues
brought up if they were directly affecting the employee s performance and
adherence to organizational processes and procedures. According to Sabir (2016)
the appraisal of the employee should be focused on work activities and the

material should be laid out with copies for the employee for them to reference as
the sequence of events goes on. This is not a party or social gathering so the
atmosphere must be professional in all aspects. It is essential that the employee is
well aware of the appraisal date and time. The time should be within normal work

The Grandfather Clause (1898-1915)
Before the Civil war took place, African Americans underwent merciless oppression
and many cases about tortured African Americans surfaced during the era. The
Grandfather Clause (1898 1915) was one such cunning step to deprive the African
Americans of voting and other rights. It was enacted by the southern states of
America. This clause was the answer to the Reconstruction law (1865 1877). The
fourteenth amendment provided equal rights to the African Americans. They were
given as much liberty as the white people. After a brief period of implying this
amendment, a new law was framed. It said that the voting rights differed on the basis

The whites were so adamant to protect their community; they took oppressive

Essay On Changing Car Oil
While most people nowadays, rarely think about changing their car oil. But little
do they know, that regularly changing a car s engine oil is one of the most
important things you can possibly do to keep a car running without any problems
or mishaps. Without regular oil changes, the old oil inside of a car, will break
down and clog a car s oil filter, causing a hefty price for repairs and replacements.
The general population, might not know this, but changing the oil of a car is both
inexpensive and easy.
The change begins by driving the car into a driveway or a spot with enough

As soon as the oil cap bolt has been screwed back on, new oil has to be added.
Locate the the fill hole at the top of the engine. If location cannot be verified, look
to the left of the engine, and there should be a cap. Before anything is done, it is
heavily recommended that vehicle capabilities are checked in the owner s manual, to
insure how much oil the vehicle can take. Too much oil intake may cause blockage,
so please be wary.
Once the new oil has been inserted, it is recommended that the engine is turned off
and on to double check that everything is running smoothly with the oil pressure.
This can be verified, by checking the red engine light turn off and on after startup. If
that is not the case, then a bolt is not tightened properly, and is oozing out liquid or oil.
As another verification method, the dipstick can be pulled out of the vehicle to
double check the pressure. This is located to the bottom left of the engine. It
generally looks like a long metal rod. Simply pull this out, and check to see if both
holes on the bottom of the stick are shaded in with oil. If this is the case, then a
successful oil change has been

Analysis Of The Book Blood Red Road
Saba s True Goal
Romance can be a part of someone s life, but it isn t always the main focus. In the
article I Can t Think About Kissing: Strong Female Protagonists and Romance in
Dystopian Young Adult Fiction , university student Mollie Hall discusses romance
in dystopian novels: Romance is pursued, but it is a side pursuit in the female
protagonist s journey instead of the goal. (Hall 5). This statement is true in the
novel Blood Red Road by Moira Young. Saba is a girl with a plan, who has had her
brother stolen from her own home. She vows to get her brother back and sets off on
a journey, meeting many interesting, villainous, and kind characters. That being said,
Saba finds a bit of romance. This, however, is not her main goal. This is evident
during Saba s first meeting with Jack, her need for help, and her thoughts on her
relationship with Jack. To begin, the initial meeting between Saba and Jack
demonstrates a romantic viewpoint in the novel. Upon seeing Jack, Saba instantly
feels a sense of love from her heartstone, a necklace charm that heats up when you
are near your heart s desire:
I pull out the heartstone tucked safe inside my vest. It s warm. No. Hot.
That s strange. I look at the sky. The sun s dyin [sic.] in the west. The day should be
cooling down. (Young 180)
At this moment in time, we know that Jack is a romantic interest in the story. He is

Soul Food Junkies Research Paper
Approximately twenty three million Americans live in food deserts. Food Deserts
are categorized as areas that are more than a mile away from a supermarket, and
these areas happen to be concentrated in urban and impoverished cities. Living in
these food deserts has resulted in approximately sixteen million children in America
experiencing foodinsecurity multiple times throughout the year. This means they do
not have access to healthy food choices, which results in their main nutritionintake
coming from heavily processed foods. The documentaries Soul Food Junkies with
Byron Hurt, and Super Size Me with Morgan Spurlock both identify key issues in
Americas eating habits. Habits that are leading to obesity, chronic heart issues,

Fast foods are one of the biggest contributors. The documentary, Super Size Me ,
shows a very detailed journey that Morgan Spurlock takes to investigate the real
effects of consumption of McDonalds. Morgan Spurlocks deal is to eat McDonald
s for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day for thirty days. During this time his
health would be tracked by a gastroenterologist, cardiologist, and a general
practitioner in order to receive accurate medical attention and tracking. Within Mr.
Spurlocks first two to four days he had vomited and started his days just not feeling
well for no clear reason. As the study continued, Spurlock showed signs of
depression, headaches, mood swings from withdrawal from eating the food, as well
as gaining twenty four pounds, increasing his cholesterol by sixty five, and moving
his body fat from eleven percent to eighteen percent over the course of the thirty day
meal plan. This documentary was made in response to the suing of McDonald s, and
the trial was dismissed when no proof that McDiets were contributors to Americas
increased obesity rates. Yet the results of the thirty day diet showed detrimental
effects, not to mention the people who eat this way for
A Context Dependent Memory Experiment Essay
The experiment is as follows; one hundred students, randomly selected, participated
in a context dependent memory experiment. twenty five were in each of the four
following learn recall situations; hot room hot room, hot room cold room, cold
room cold room, cold room hot room. They were asked to spend thirty minutes
learning a list of thirty words. The next day they were asked to recall those words in
a fifteen minute time period. There are no results.
Context Dependent Memory in Environments with Hot and Cold Temperatures
Context dependent memory is the concept that things are often best recalled in the
same environment that they were learned. Smith and Vela (2001) provide four
hypotheses as to how context dependent memory works. They appear as follows;
reinstatement is the idea that memory is better when testing occurs in a reinstated
environment as opposed to a different environment (Smith Vela, 2001) and this is true
across all studies (Smith Vela, 2001), outshining implies that non contextual cues
when used for guiding memory often diminish or eliminate the effects of contextual
cues (Smith Vela, 2001), Overshadowing is the concept that if one s incidental
environmental context is suppressed during learning, then environmental information
will not be encoded and stored in memory, thereby reducing or eliminating effects of
experimenter manipulated environments on memory (Smith Vela, 2001), and finally
mental reinstatement
Nacirema Research Paper
The one aspect I choose to discuss is the bathing process, especially this is so
different where I m from and I still hope to find a place in the USA that is a little
more open minded.
In Northern Europe, when you say I go to a sauna, it means you are going to a
resort that has many different saunas and a swimming pool. Usually, there is a
restaurant, a place where you can have a facial, massage, and you are guaranteed a
relaxing day. After a day at the resort, you charged your battery, and you feel
rejuvenated. While you are in the resort, you do not wear swimwear. In the sauna,
you sit on a towel, and only the restaurant requires a bathrobe. Male and female are
mixed and some people bring their children. This resort is not some nudist camp;
this is a part of our culture. The following quote comes from Body Ritual among
the Nacirema. The supplicant entering the temple is first stripped of all his or her
clothes. In everyday life, the Nacerima avoids exposure of his body and its natural
functions. Bathing and excretory acts are performed only in the secrecy of the
household shrine. (p.180) When I tried to go to a spa in The States for the first time,

Men Are From Mars WomanAre From Venus. This book will explain it all, and I
guess we are just wired differently. I m 41 and I still don t understand man. They
say this, and they do that. Sometimes you try to tell your man something and I don t
think he doesn t listen and sometimes I will ask are you listening, they just respond
different. In an anthropologist point of little boys are more competitive and the one
who uses language the best will become the leader of the whole group, where women
want to be equal, the friendship between girls is different and a girl often wants to
have a best friend. This makes the communication between male and female a little
challenging. We just don t understand each other in the right
Josiah Bartlett s Accomplishments
Josiah Bartlett, delegate of New Hampshire in the Continental Congress, was born
on November 21, 1729 in Amesbury Massachusetts. His parents were Stephen and
Hannah Bartlett. In the beginning Bartlett studied and practiced the science of
medicine at Kingston, New Hampshire, He began his studies when he was only 16
years of age and continued them throughout his life. At the age of 21 he became
well known as an experienced doctor in Kingston and was depended upon by many
because of his experience and talent as a doctor. On January 15, 1754 he married his
cousin Mary Bartlett and throughout their marriagethey had eleven children. Marry,
Lois, Miriam, Rhoda, Hannah, Levi, Josiah, Josiah, Ezra, Sarah, and Hannah. Both of
their daughters named... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is not exactly one of the most famous names for signing the Declaration of
Independence and unlike John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, or
John Hancock he was not known as a main character in the movie 1776. Though he
was a member of the Continental Congress and his vote and signature counted just
as much as anyone else s, he was not as well know and talked about as some of the
others portrayed in the movie. I wanted to write this paper about him because I
wanted to show accomplishments and the importance of other people in the
congress that are not as famous or well know. In other words I wanted to show
others the behind the scenes of lesser characters in the movie. Just because
someone in a movie is not shown as much as others, or is not portrayed as an
important or famous member of something does not mean that they do not have any
say nor have they not done anything important in their lives. For example by
watching the movie I don t think I ever would have known or even thought that
Bartlett had accomplished so many things or that he had done so amazingly well in
politics or in medicine. According to my research Bartlett was a very important man
in Kingston and New Hampshire in general and without looking into this more I
would have never guessed any of this. This is just one of those things that show you
can t always believe what you see in movies, though obviously congress did not sing

Cacoyannis Stereotypes In Euripides Trojan Women
But now, Troy is no more. Nothing will ever rise from this mound again. Sacked.
Gutted. A smoldering ruin (Euripides 41). This description of Troy from Trojan
Women by Euripides is perfectly embodied by Michael Cacoyannis in the 1971 film,
The Trojan Women. With screams of terror, dust in the air, and chaos throughout the
ruined streets of Troy, Cacoyannis paints a violently surreal portrait of the sorrowful
Trojan women, ripped apart by the lengthy war. Although some artistic liberties were
taken with the recreation of this ancient play, I believe Cacoyannis choices expand
upon the legends of Helenand help to further illustrate the brutal tales of Troy. The
overall plot is devout to Euripides original Trojan Women and contains practically...

Although Papas is visually polar opposite to the blonde, classical Greek beauty
which Helen is commonly depicted as I appreciate Cacoyannis take on the woman
who started such an exhausting war (Hughes 9). The darkened hair and bold eye
makeup which Papas wears gives this Helen an evil atmosphere, emphasizing the
innocence of the Trojan women and the torture they are being subjected to. In one
scene, the temptress asks for water. The guards surrounding her are not supposed to
give into her pleas, however, one guard catches sight of Helen s glimmering eyes
and falls under her spell. The awe struck Greek guard pours some water for Helen
into a pan and the starving and dehydrated Trojan women are forced to watch Helen
not drink the water, but wash her feet and body with it. Papas is demanding,
confident, and masterfully portrays the detested beautiful
The Beginning Of Buddhism And India
The beginning of Buddhism started in 5th century B.C. in India (Violatti).
Siddhartha, also referred to as Buddha, was said to have seen the suffering of the
world and set out a way to fix it. He was said to have reached a state of
enlightenment that was said to have begun at the end of attachments. These
attachments were said to have been able to be achieved through a large amount of
meditation and analysis of the world (Violatti, Buddhism). Buddhism does not have
a direct set of books to follow but there are two books Sutras (Sanskirt) and Suttas
(Pali) that are said to have been the words of Buddha and many Buddhist live by
those words ( Buddhist Sacred Texts ). Hinduismhad a different start then Buddhism,
it was said to have started... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What people are brought back as is said to be determined by what they had done in
their previous life, Buddhist are more likely to call it rebirth. Hinduism says Just
as a man discards worn out clothes and puts on new clothes, the soul discards worn
out bodies and wears new ones (2.22) (V. Jayaman) This is talking about
reincarnation because it is believed that a person s soul take over a new body
whether it is of an animal or if it comes back as a person. The Buddhist thinking on
reincarnation is The constant state of flux, renewal and metabolic change that we
experience physically (birth, old age, sickness, and death) and in our minds (the
forming, existing, changing and ceasing of thoughts) are what we call the wheel of
rebirth Master Hsing Yun (Peto). Yun was talking about how what people do during
their life and the changes they go through effects how they are going to be reborn.
When comparing Hinduism and Buddhism on reincarnation they are very similar,
even though it is more commonly called rebirth by Buddhism. Both of them believe
that what they do in their life affects what they come back as in their next life.
Enlightenment can occur during meditation and is a realization in a person that
allows them to make a change and see the world in a different light and many believe
it is a liberation of a person s soul. It may make people to go on a mission or go live
in exclusivity so
Substance Abuse In The Workplace Essay
Substance abuse is one of the largest growing problems in the world. In addition to
the growth and wide spread popularity of alcohol and recreational drug use, the
international drug trade and alcohol distribution garners tens of billions of dollars a
year in both legal and illegal revenue. This simply serves as an indicator for how
common drug and alcoholhas become on a global scale. Although there is a portion
of the worldwide population which uses substances in a moderated and controlled
manner, substance abuse is becoming a prolific problem and a concern of epidemic
proportion. One of the most significant issues is the increasingly common practice of
drug and alcohol abusein the workplace. Substance abuse in the workplace provides
multiple ethical concerns, both from the standpoint of the employee and management.
Although corporations, companies, and institutes normally have well defined policies
guiding the response procedures for suspected or known substance abuse, there are
often deviations from practiced interventions and misinterpreted reactions to the issue.
In the 21st century, drug use and substance abuse has become a leading problem in
the workplace environment and is providing administrative and management
leadership agencies with challenging ethical dilemmas. Aside from the safety and
liability issues drug use can cause for employers, businesses and organizations, there
is a growing ethical responsibility for leadership members to establish and apply
History Of The Silk Road
Have you ever wondered where a lot of the food we eat today and medicine and items
we use today that can be important to our religion or race or has been important to
our life growing up can be from the silk road. Food such as plums, melons, peaches,
and pears and items such as silk, pills, and color dye. The silk road has done many
thing to help us all around now let s get into how they could ve played an role in our
life.
The first thing we ll be talking about is the culture, I got my information from The
language most used in the silk road is Khotanese, Tocharian, Sogdian, and Chinese.
Some food there is lamb, mutton, dried fruits, and of course noodles. Some of the
famous most used animals over there in the silk road are Camels, sheep, and yaks.
Some of their clothing options were woolen wraps and silk clothes which they later
on dyed for patterns and color. Finally on our way to ideas they had on the silk road.
The second thing we ll be talking about is Technology/Innovations. I got my
information from both these sites Some things that came from the silk road were
gunpowder, compass, printing, glassware, crossbow, and some knowledge about
silkworm breeding and silk spinning. Some more items they made that were cool
were snow white ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the more rare, interesting plants over there were a plant called the
metasequoia, cherry blossoms trees, and even the china cypress, all these cultures
could be why we have some of the things today. China only traded at first because

road heck it would probably take us a lot of years to trade something and come up

The Effects Of Exorcism On The Evil Spirit
In all aspects of life, people come across things that simply cannot be explained.
Whether people choose to believe something or not; it still is prevalent in life.
Exorcism is the expulsion or attempted expulsion of an evil spirit from a person or a
place (https://www.google.com). In horror films, the main focus during the exorcism
is on the evil spirit. Films have negatively drawn our attention to evil spirit because
it is more interesting to watch. But in reality, behind every exorcism there is an
exorcist that risks his life to save another: And the exorcist, who risks more than
anyone else in an exorcism, flits across the screen as necessary but, in the end, not so
interesting as the sound effects (Martin 8). Exorcists are the... Show more content on

An exorcist risks his life during an exorcism and has to be prepared for the end
result he may die or a part of him may die. Many exorcists are not the same after
they come in contact with pure evil. (Martin 10). Not all exorcisms are preformed
because of the possession of another human being. In fact, most exorcisms are
preformed in haunted buildings infested with evil spirits, which is known as demonic
infestation. The other types of infestation are oppression and possession. Oppression
is when a demon focuses on a particular person and possession is when the person
has allowed the demon to take over its whole body. The most common form,
demonic infestation, occurred in the Cranmer house. Bob Cranmer had bought his
childhood dream house. But, after a few months of living there, a demon had
made itself present. Bob Cranmer had brought in Father Mike Salvagna, a priest,
and Adam Blai, a psychiatrist, to get rid of the demon. The demon s name was
Moloch, whom was usually associated with child sacrifice in the Old Testament.
Moloch was in complete control of all possession in the house. After the priest
threw holy water on the walls, Moloch fought back by making the walls bleed;
which there was no scientific evidence in how the blood had gotten there. The
strange part of this story is that the demon did not cause a scene as the priest
preformed the exorcism. Bob Cranmer described it like a
Light And Dark In The Godfather
Francis Coppola emphasizes the secrecy of the Mafia by concealing their shady
business practices with low key lighting and dark colors. Well said; nice topic
sentence.] The lack of light and color gives off a powerful feeling of savagery owing
to the reality of the story. Other than Orson Welles Citizen Kane, selected as the
greatest film in motion picture history for three decades by the American Film
Institute, The Godfathercreates the most impressive display of film noir ever. Films
predating this one rarely experimented with low lighting because no director had the
audacity to take the risk. That and no one had the right script for it. Interesting The

She elaborated by saying that she thought the cracked screen illustrated the flaws of technology. She concluded by saying that as technology continues to advance there will always be flaws. In comparison, my professor s perception to the sculpture and mine were very

As submissive as it is, Belief tends to get on roads that it never means to. The road diverges into two, and a choice has to be made. Manipulation passes, and it takes a hold of Belief. It is what makes our minds believe things, without even giving us a choice. These mechanisms in our head cause us to make usually biased and unfair decision, which is why it s important to be aware of them. Take the idea of bandwagoning of course, the most known bias. With this in mind, the importance of secondary education becomes self evident. Where people decide to obtain their educationwill ultimately influence the rest of their lives. The common struggle of choice appears between universities and independent colleges (those not under authority of universities). If a student is not concerned with moving from school to school, holds what they pay in high esteem, and/or is not too concerned with socialization, a college may be the best fit. There may also be a compromise, where someone gets an under graduate degree from a college, and decides to further their education at a university. Regardless of where someone decides to take their education past high school, it is still a win for our country and our global society. Every waking moment there are more and more people that hold college degrees and essentially make a further educated society that can continue to

  • 8. A Broadway Dream Book Analysis Picture it. Broadway during the 1920s. Florenz Ziegfeld produces a revue called Ziegfeld s Follies. Girls appear in elaborate costumes bordering on the risque. Gangsters are running rampant from Al Capone to Bugs Moran to Machine Gun Kelly. This is the world in which Agnes Bobbie Storey finds herself. Agnes family lived in Leaholme until the war nearly closed their inn, forcing them to find work in London. Shortly afterward, her father dies of Spanish Influenza, and Agnes is forced to find a job to help support her family. She manages to land a job at a restaurant belonging to a friend of her father. It is here that she wins The Most Beautiful Barmaid in London contest. This sparks Andre Charlot to offer her a spot in his revue that is traveling to Broadway. She immediately accepts, thus beginning her love affair with fame, success, and New York City. A Broadway Dream by Jane Hill is a fiction based on the historical person by the name of Bobbie Storey. Amazon has this correctly classified as historical fiction or biographical fiction; however, it was incorrectly classified as romance on OBC. The book is fairly short with only about 200 pages. It may seem odd, but my favorite part of this story was the ending. I am not familiar with the history of the 1920s nor the life of Bobbie Storey. Therefore when I read the ending, I was actually taken aback. To me, the ending contributed to the reality of the story. It s unfortunate that I cannot share this ending, but I

The FSK method of modulating/demodulation is typically limited to low frequency signal rates, such as 300 bits per second 1.2.2: FSK DEMODULATION: FSK demodulation is the process of recovering the original signal by detecting the frequencies involved in the original modulation. Typically, this is done with a bandpass amplifier tuned to one of the two frequencies, followed by a amplitude demodulator. The output is the original signal. It is possible, though often unecessary, to use two bandpass ampliers, one for each frequency, but this is redundant. It is also possible to use a digital signal processing technique to perform a fourier transform on the input signal, but that can be complex and costly. This is the method used in very early modems, up to around 1200 baud. It is also possible, using FSK, to send multiple signals across one line. Simply pick suitable frequencies for each modulation state, and mix the outputs into one consolidated analog signal. On the other end, you have multiple bandpass filters running at the same time and, as long as the chosen frequencies are

CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION The global electricity sector is now facing major challenges i.e. exponentially increasing electricity demand, fight against climatic changes and increasing trends towards massive urbanization. The first challenge of ever mounting demands results in continuous depletion of traditional power generation sources; these are centralized power generation like thermal power plants i.e. combustion (coal, oil, natural), nuclear power plants etc. and are not suited for environmental and cost issues. The second challenge relates to the regulation of Greenhouse gas emission. These gases are responsible for increasing the global temperature. • 11. Values Of A Warrior Society As Seen In Beowulf The Values of a Warrior Society As Seen in Beowulf When Nelson Mandela, the president of South Africa died, thousands of people gathered to say their goodbyes. It was not a happy and joyous occasion but rather one where people were mourning of the loss of a great man. They may not have personal known him but they know of the great things that he has done to make the world a better place. To them, it is what made his deathdifficult and sad. However, if we lived in a warrior society his death would not have something to mourn; instead we would celebrate his life. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scyld s funeral is not a somber occasion, but rather a joyous celebration. The people do not mourn that he is dead but rather rejoice for the life that he led. Their celebration shows that they do not grieve death. In this warrior society death is seen as honorable. The one who has died has given the ultimate sacrifice, death, for their people. They may have followed their leader into battle and died or they may have died of old age as is the case with Scyld. This is confirmed later on when Beowulf is speaking Hrothgar on the death of his best thane. Beowulf states, Wise sir, do not grieve. It is always better to avenge dear ones than to indulge in mourning. For every one of us, living in this world means waiting for our end. Let whoever can win glory before death. When a warrior is gone, that will be his best and only bulwark (lines 1384 89). This statement solidifies what is hinted at earlier on in the epic during Scyld s funeral. It is part of a heroic code. Death is what comes to people who have earned it in their dedication to a cause or great warriors who have earned it. Since death is found to be so honorable, the people do not mourn for the loss of their king but celebrate his death. Scyld s funeral plays an important role in discovering what was important to the society at this time including honor in death and the qualities found in a great

However, to Japanese, Masako s decision was a natural consequence of her role, as a daughter and as a member of the royal family. Culture, thus, plays a crucial role in interpreting a situation. The values of a society influence the creation of the self concept and choice of the individual. Masako s choice aligned with the values of her culture. Cultural differences are present when a choice is made and the interpretation of it. The Case Law On Horizontal Direct Effect Of Directives The CJEU case law on horizontal direct effect of directives arguably lacks consistency in regards to the application of the general principle. The principle of direct effect was established in Van Gend en Loos v. Nederlandse Administratie der Belastingen. Although there is no set definition of direct effect, a broader definition was provided in Van Gend en Loos that it can be expressed as the capacity of a provision of EU law to be invoked before a national court. However, Van Dyun v. Home Office established that directives are capable of direct effect. Furthermore, Marshall v. Southampton established that there could only be vertical direct effect of directives. This stringent principle has arguable ignited the highly contested debate of whether or not horizontal direct effect is applicable to directives or if directives could only have vertical direct effect. The government, however, is dealing with the weak budget revenues well as it has implemented a reform of energy subsidies, deregulation of domestic hydrocarbon price, and finally, it has increased the price in electricity and water. In regards to the account balance, it will remain positive but its levels will be subpar compared to previous years. The opening of the Iranian market this year will be highly beneficial, as it will incentivize imports in both the oil and non oil industry. Non oil exports are 60% of the exports of Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The increase of imports will lessen but it will remain stable, as the local currency, the Emirati Dirham is pegged to the U.S. dollar which appreciated this year. The beginning of the UAE s central bank can be traced to the the UAE Currency Board, which was created in 1973 with the purpose of replacing the UAE s former currency, the Qatari Riyal. During that period of time, the UAE Currency Board had no central banking powers, and its focus was on UAE s currency, gold, and foreign exchange. All of that changed in 1980 when a law was passed, which dissolved the UAE currency and created The Central Bank of the United Arab

Taa 18-22 Case Study The Army has already established the need for maintaining an operational reserve, through former and current TAAs, capable of breaching AC capability gaps to meet joint force requirements. However, the analysis lacks resources to accomplish this guidance effectively. The demand for RC forces requires generating more operational unit readiness to fully complement the rotational forcepool to meet the deployment demand at the same standard as the AC. After conducting a Doctrine, Organization, Training, Materiel, Leadership and Education, Personnel, Facilities and Policy (DOTMLPF P) analysis, both overarching recommendations address an identified capability requirement and associated capability gap that could be mitigated with a non materiel solution with changes or existing capabilities in five, organization, training, personnel, facilities, and policy, of the eight functions. Their laziness, corruption, and weakness lead to their demise. This great empire started as a republic, then a kingdom, and then the blazing empire that conquered the world. Many things led to their demise, but I have gotten the most important factors for the downfall of the Empire of Rome. First up, the foreign invasions that capsized Rome. According to document D, it states what the weak and lazy roman army was up against. Extremely vicious warriors who slaughtered their enemies on horseback, with almost no weaknesses, who pillaged the roman empire until it was nothing but ruins. That was just one group of invaders. According to document C, there were 3 others that were also extremely difficult to fight. And even worse for Rome s sake, they came from every direction! This is why Rome had no chance.... And you know who s fault that is, the Emperors themselves! Speaking of which... The most important for last, what I know is the main factor for the fall of Rome, is bad leadership. According to document A, there were 22 emperors in 50 years, most of them dying horribly (assassination, battle, etc.). Bad leadership brings up another main problem in the empire, Economic problems and corruption. The emperor s blew off gigantic amounts of money for parties and other useless things, instead of helping the dying empire. This lead to people taking Justice into their own

There are different examples such as detail, time frame, imagination, and important scenes that weren t shown in the movie. The novel is better because it includes more detail such as character development. The movie skips the first chapter which talks about who the characters are and their backstory about why they are considered greasers. The novelhas more dialogue which helps with the story s structure. One example is how the movie only included the most importants parts and didn t explain how Ponyboy and Johnny got to the church or how Johnny recovered so quickly. Imagination is an important part to why the novel is better. Imagination is a big part of the book, The Outsiders, because you get to hear it the way you want and depict it the way you see the characters in your head, the movie is the opposite of that since you have to see it in a fixed point of view of the directors perspective. • 31. Monothelitism as Opposed to Dyothelitism Monothelitism is a subject concerning Jesus having two natures but one will. The opposing, which is commonly known as Dyothelitism, is the idea that Jesus has both two natures and two wills. Monothelitism was a heresy that occurred during the 7th century. (Chapman) This controversy started with Emperor Heraclius who wanted to unite people under one idea. With the help of Sergius of Constantinople, they got Pope Honorius to agree with the idea that Christ had one energy. Pope Honorius, however, was later condemned of heresy. Sophronius, a monk who lived in Palestine, disagreed with the compromise that was made, he made it clear that he thought that Dyothelitism was an important aspect of Christianity. In 638, the Emperor responded to Sophronius ideas with an edict titled Exposition of the Faith which said that people were no longer permitted to discuss the matter, and that Christ had one will. ( History of the Christian Church... ) There was support for this idea, though there was resistance as well. Specifically, Maximus Confessor and Pope Martinus. These two were very strong in their position of support for Dyothelitism. In 648, Emperor Constans II made an edict titled Type that he hoped would create peace. The edict called for silence on the topic that was being debated, and took a neutral view on the subject. The emperor was later informed that Monothelitismhad been declared a heresy. • 33. Analysis Of The Poem The Darkness Within Men By Steve... 12 Years a Slave positions utter beauty between and within scenes of violence and abjection to inspire poignant reflection; frequent tranquil landscapes emphasize gruesome acts and remind us of man s capability for despicable amorality. Though we often like to sequester slavery to a time and a place no longer existent, it was not 19th century Louisiana that committed these heinous acts but rather the privileged white men who occupied the territory. Louisiana landscapes are and always will be beautiful; it is man that muddies our retrospective visions. Yet, Steve McQueenallows us to breathe for the beauty itself often provides relief from horrific previous scenes; he simply does not create empty breaks. We both reflect on the darkness within men and wonder exactly how this beauty affects and/or represents the various characters. The jarring juxtaposition of beauty and abjection inspires psychological introspection for we are never awarded with beauty from subjective points of view (it is presented from anonymous angles). The cotton picking scenes and the scene in which Solomon rows down the river illustrate the jarring effects beauty and abjection create when presented simultaneously. Both enforce a separation between man and nature and emphasize the heinous through means of polar comparison, yet also tie visual beauty to the retention of hope. Beginning with the cotton picking sequences, Steven McQueen frequently uses a wide far shot and captures the blinding white
  • 34. Analysis Of The Creation Myth The Creation Myth is found within Genesis and is about the creation of man, the first one is named Adam. Adam was created out of dust in God s image. He was placed within a utopia, the Garden of Eden, with all the provisions he needed to live in happiness forever. However, this predetermined destiny never came to be. During this story, we see another character emerge, she is called a woman and is named Eve. Eve is treated much differently than Adamis, and is blamed for the change in Adam s, and therefore all human kinds, fate. The reader can see a gender hierarchy emerge during the creation myth, and notices the difference in treatment between Adam and Eve. The order of creation is one way to notice the differences in Adam and Eve. The Lord God created Adam first. He then tells Adam the rules of the Garden of Eden , He says You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die. (Genesis 2, Adam and Eve). The Lord God then creates Eve, never telling her the rules of the Garden of Eden. He is given the job of informing Eve of the rules, this puts him in a position of power and authority over her. Adam and Eve were created for two different purposes. Adam was created to care for the Garden of Eden. However, as read in Genesis 2, the Lord God says It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him. (Genesis 2, Adam and Eve.) It is easy

Morgan Spurlocks deal is to eat McDonald s for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day for thirty days. During this time his health would be tracked by a gastroenterologist, cardiologist, and a general practitioner in order to receive accurate medical attention and tracking. Within Mr. Spurlocks first two to four days he had vomited and started his days just not feeling well for no clear reason. As the study continued, Spurlock showed signs of depression, headaches, mood swings from withdrawal from eating the food, as well as gaining twenty four pounds, increasing his cholesterol by sixty five, and moving his body fat from eleven percent to eighteen percent over the course of the thirty day meal plan. This documentary was made in response to the suing of McDonald s, and the trial was dismissed when no proof that McDiets were contributors to Americas increased obesity rates. Yet the results of the thirty day diet showed detrimental effects, not to mention the people who eat this way for

A Context Dependent Memory Experiment Essay The experiment is as follows; one hundred students, randomly selected, participated in a context dependent memory experiment. twenty five were in each of the four following learn recall situations; hot room hot room, hot room cold room, cold room cold room, cold room hot room. They were asked to spend thirty minutes learning a list of thirty words. The next day they were asked to recall those words in a fifteen minute time period. There are no results. Context Dependent Memory in Environments with Hot and Cold Temperatures Context dependent memory is the concept that things are often best recalled in the same environment that they were learned. Smith and Vela (2001) provide four hypotheses as to how context dependent memory works. They appear as follows; reinstatement is the idea that memory is better when testing occurs in a reinstated environment as opposed to a different environment (Smith Vela, 2001) and this is true across all studies (Smith Vela, 2001), outshining implies that non contextual cues when used for guiding memory often diminish or eliminate the effects of contextual cues (Smith Vela, 2001), Overshadowing is the concept that if one s incidental environmental context is suppressed during learning, then environmental information will not be encoded and stored in memory, thereby reducing or eliminating effects of experimenter manipulated environments on memory (Smith Vela, 2001), and finally mental reinstatement

Nacirema Research Paper The one aspect I choose to discuss is the bathing process, especially this is so different where I m from and I still hope to find a place in the USA that is a little more open minded. In Northern Europe, when you say I go to a sauna, it means you are going to a resort that has many different saunas and a swimming pool. Usually, there is a restaurant, a place where you can have a facial, massage, and you are guaranteed a relaxing day. After a day at the resort, you charged your battery, and you feel rejuvenated. While you are in the resort, you do not wear swimwear. In the sauna, you sit on a towel, and only the restaurant requires a bathrobe. Male and female are mixed and some people bring their children. This resort is not some nudist camp; this is a part of our culture. The following quote comes from Body Ritual among the Nacirema. The supplicant entering the temple is first stripped of all his or her clothes. In everyday life, the Nacerima avoids exposure of his body and its natural functions. Bathing and excretory acts are performed only in the secrecy of the household shrine. (p.180) When I tried to go to a spa in The States for the first time, I bailed ... He is not exactly one of the most famous names for signing the Declaration of Independence and unlike John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, or John Hancock he was not known as a main character in the movie 1776. Though he was a member of the Continental Congress and his vote and signature counted just as much as anyone else s, he was not as well know and talked about as some of the others portrayed in the movie. I wanted to write this paper about him because I wanted to show accomplishments and the importance of other people in the congress that are not as famous or well know. In other words I wanted to show others the behind the scenes of lesser characters in the movie. Just because someone in a movie is not shown as much as others, or is not portrayed as an important or famous member of something does not mean that they do not have any say nor have they not done anything important in their lives. For example by watching the movie I don t think I ever would have known or even thought that Bartlett had accomplished so many things or that he had done so amazingly well in politics or in medicine. According to my research Bartlett was a very important man in Kingston and New Hampshire in general and without looking into this more I would have never guessed any of this. This is just one of those things that show you can t always believe what you see in movies, though obviously congress did not sing in order to make
  • 47. Cacoyannis Stereotypes In Euripides Trojan Women But now, Troy is no more. Nothing will ever rise from this mound again. Sacked. Gutted. A smoldering ruin (Euripides 41). This description of Troy from Trojan Women by Euripides is perfectly embodied by Michael Cacoyannis in the 1971 film, The Trojan Women. With screams of terror, dust in the air, and chaos throughout the ruined streets of Troy, Cacoyannis paints a violently surreal portrait of the sorrowful Trojan women, ripped apart by the lengthy war. Although some artistic liberties were taken with the recreation of this ancient play, I believe Cacoyannis choices expand upon the legends of Helenand help to further illustrate the brutal tales of Troy. The overall plot is devout to Euripides original Trojan Women and contains practically... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The darkened hair and bold eye makeup which Papas wears gives this Helen an evil atmosphere, emphasizing the innocence of the Trojan women and the torture they are being subjected to. In one scene, the temptress asks for water. The guards surrounding her are not supposed to give into her pleas, however, one guard catches sight of Helen s glimmering eyes and falls under her spell. The awe struck Greek guard pours some water for Helen into a pan and the starving and dehydrated Trojan women are forced to watch Helen not drink the water, but wash her feet and body with it. In addition to the growth and wide spread popularity of alcohol and recreational drug use, the international drug trade and alcohol distribution garners tens of billions of dollars a year in both legal and illegal revenue. This simply serves as an indicator for how common drug and alcoholhas become on a global scale. Although there is a portion of the worldwide population which uses substances in a moderated and controlled manner, substance abuse is becoming a prolific problem and a concern of epidemic proportion. One of the most significant issues is the increasingly common practice of drug and alcohol abusein the workplace. Substance abuse in the workplace provides multiple ethical concerns, both from the standpoint of the employee and management. Although corporations, companies, and institutes normally have well defined policies guiding the response procedures for suspected or known substance abuse, there are often deviations from practiced interventions and misinterpreted reactions to the issue. In the 21st century, drug use and substance abuse has become a leading problem in the workplace environment and is providing administrative and management leadership agencies with challenging ethical dilemmas. Aside from the safety and liability issues drug use can cause for employers, businesses and organizations, there is a growing ethical responsibility for leadership members to establish and apply

But in reality, behind every exorcism there is an exorcist that risks his life to save another: And the exorcist, who risks more than anyone else in an exorcism, flits across the screen as necessary but, in the end, not so interesting as the sound effects (Martin 8). Many exorcists are not the same after they come in contact with pure evil. (Martin 10). Not all exorcisms are preformed because of the possession of another human being. In fact, most exorcisms are preformed in haunted buildings infested with evil spirits, which is known as demonic infestation. The other types of infestation are oppression and possession. Oppression is when a demon focuses on a particular person and possession is when the person has allowed the demon to take over its whole body. The most common form, demonic infestation, occurred in the Cranmer house. Bob Cranmer had bought his childhood dream house. But, after a few months of living there, a demon had made itself present. Bob Cranmer had brought in Father Mike Salvagna, a priest, and Adam Blai, a psychiatrist, to get rid of the demon. The demon s name was Moloch, whom was usually associated with child sacrifice in the Old Testament. Moloch was in complete control of all possession in the house. After the priest threw holy water on the walls, Moloch fought back by making the walls bleed; which there was no scientific evidence in how the blood had gotten there. The strange part of this story is that the demon did not cause a scene as the priest preformed the exorcism. Bob Cranmer described it like a
