This software allows users to calculate the life cycle cost (LCC) of equipment based on reliability, maintainability, and availability models. It accepts cost inputs like acquisition, operation, maintenance, and other costs. The LCC is calculated as the sum of these costs minus any revenues. The software contains modules for equipment data, cost calculation, sensitivity analysis, report generation, and more. It uses mathematical formulas and simulations to analyze how the LCC would be impacted by varying parameters over the life of the equipment.

A real-time system is used when there are rigid time requirements on the operation of a processor or the flow of data, and thus is often used as a control device in a dedicated application.
Sensors bring data to the computer. The computer must analyze the data and possibly adjust controls to modify the sensor inputs.
Systems that control scientific experiments, medical imaging systems, industrial control systems, and some display systems are real-time systems.
Also included are some automobile-engine fuel-injection systems, home-appliance controllers, and weapon systems.

Software Requirements
Descriptions and specifications
of a system
What is a requirement?
• May range from
– a high-level abstract statement of a service
or
– a statement of a system constraint to a
detailed mathematical functional specification
• Requirements may be used for
– a bid for a contract
• must be open to interpretation
– the basis for the contract itself
• must be defined in detail
• Both the above statements may be called
requirements
Example Example
……
4.A.5 The database shall support the generation and control of
configuration objects; that is, objects which are themselves groupings
of other objects in the database. The configuration control facilities
shall allow access to the objects in a version group by the use of an
incomplete name.
……
2
Types of requirements
• Written for customers
– User requirements
• Statements in natural language plus diagrams of the
services the system provides and its operational
constraints.
• Written as a contract between client and
contractor
– System requirements
• A structured document setting out detailed
descriptions of the system services.
• Written for developers
– Software specification
• A detailed software description which can serve as a
basis for a design or implementation.
User requirements readers
• Client managers
• System end-users
• Client engineers
• Contractor managers
• System architects
System requirements readers
• System end-users
• Client engineers
• System architects
• Software developers
Software specification readers
• Client engineers (maybe)
• System architects
• Software developers

We will come back to user
and system requirements
Functional requirements
• Statements of services the system
should provide, how the system
should react to particular inputs
and how the system should behave
in particular situations.
Functional requirements
• Describe functionality or system services
• Depend on the type of software,
expected users and the type of system
where the software is used
• Functional user requirements may be
high-level statements of what the
system should do but functional system
requirements should describe the system
services in detail
Examples of functional
requirements
1. The user shall be able to search either
all of the initial set of databases or
select a subset from it.
2. The system shall provide appropriate
viewers for the user to read documents
in the document store.
3. Every order shall be allocated a unique
identifier (ORDER_ID) which the user
shall be able to copy to the account’s
permanent storage area.
4
Requirements imprecision
• Problems arise when requirements are
not precisely stated
• Ambiguous requirements may be
interpreted in different ways by
developers and users
• Consider the term ‘appropriate viewers’
– User intention - special purpose viewer fo ...

Wireless communication involves the transmission of information over a distance without the help of wires, cables or any other forms of electrical conductors.
Wireless communication is a broad term that incorporates all procedures and forms of connecting and communicating between two or more devices using a wireless signal through wireless communication technologies and devices.
Features of Wireless Communication
The evolution of wireless technology has brought many advancements with its effective features.
The transmitted distance can be anywhere between a few meters (for example, a television's remote control) and thousands of kilometers (for example, radio communication).
Wireless communication can be used for cellular telephony, wireless access to the internet, wireless home networking, and so on.

2. Introduction
• This Software is used to calculate the Life Cycle Cost (LCC) of an equipment based on
Reliability, Maintainability, and Availability using appropriate methods to simulate, which
would otherwise have to be done manually and is difficult to analyze.
• This tool helps to analyze the LCC based on various governing parameters like Acquisition
Cost, Operational Cost, and Maintenance Cost etc.
• Various reports can be generated using this software for good decision-making
• The software is developed using J2EE and MySql
• The software is developed with the applicable mathematical formulas. Costs are derived or
calculated with a given cost estimating methods
2
3. Description
• The Software is designed to map any given system architecture into corresponding cost
elements based on reliability, availability and maintainability of the components.
• Each part of the system is configurable in its subcomponents and the importance of any
component in estimating the cost of system can be identified.
• To estimate LCC of an equipment, the tool accepts the cost inputs such as acquisition,
operation, maintenance and other costs of the equipment.
• The LCC of equipment is the sum of the Acquisition Cost, Operational Cost, Maintenance Cost
and Other Costs. Any revenues accrued shall be deducted from the LCC. LCC is calculated for
various parameters like operating hour per year etc. Where ever applicable the calculations
are done by considering inflation rate
3
4. Description contd..
• The system uses database for storing the information related to various cost elements of
various equipments and also provides a data base for equipment details.
• Generally LCC is done by a particular scientist at a given point of time, hence data base is
created with author name (scientist) as the main element to retrieve the details of the
equipment, costs etc.
• The software contains several modules. They can greatly enhance the calculation the LCC of
