He laughed and then went on to explain what a liberal–arts college actually is. Like many others, I
believed a common misperception about the liberal–arts. In "The New Liberal Arts" by Sanford J.
Ungar, the writer explains wrong ideas about the liberal–arts to a college–based audience including
students, professors, and administration. He explains the importance and relevance of a liberal–arts
education. Ungar claims that it is a better investment than narrow, specific technical training because
it prepares students for career placement by giving them skills in communicating effectively,
thinking creatively, and understanding comprehensively. I agree with Ungar and I think he
successfully explains the reasons why liberal arts are important and relevant in today's society.
First, the logic of the article focuses on why students should have a balanced, well–rounded
understanding of the world to be successful in life rather than having a career–based education that
is only focused on one aspect. There were no obvious fallacies found in Ungar's argument beyond
the generalization about costs for all colleges thus not focusing primarily on the financial situation.

study literature" (2016), argues that college students should be able to pursue on the major they want
rather than listen to what their parents want for them. He supports his argument by providing
testimonies, statistical evidence, and studies. The author's purpose is to encourage all students to
consider becoming a liberal arts major. Out of all his appeals, his strongest were both logical and
ethical because he provided an amount of sources that build up his credibility. In the other hand, the
article lacks on emotional appeal. Overall, he delivers a well structured article that hits the points on
why we should consider majors like liberal arts and how students take majors that their parents
prefer. To build his argument Pearlstein uses logical appeal that demonstrates to be one of his

as the student. The title provides the basic to justifying the claim. The title can grave the readers
attention in the first paragraph or have them hurtle away. The title of Sanford, "The New Liberal
Arts" catches the readers attention. The word "New" made the reader want to know what was the
new liberal arts. So the reader will dig into the first page to find out what the new liberal arts is. The

Every year, millions of high school seniors make a decision on where they want to attend college.
One of the ideas these students have to consider is if they want to attend a vocational college or a
liberal arts college. While some students feel very strongly one way or another, many students don't
even know what a liberal arts education is. For a Christian liberal arts college, their answer should
be simple. Jeffry C. Davis once said in his book Liberal Arts for the Christian Life that "Rightly
understood, the pursuit of Christ is the supreme liberal art–the fundamental discipline that sets us
free." (Davis 23) I believe that Davis is right on target with this quote, that anyone who is seeking
true and complete freedom should be seeking Jesus Christ.
But still, what is a "liberal arts" education? There's no one clear–cut answer to that question, and

I'd like to use the definition that was originally used for liberal arts. In the same book as before,
Davis states that

Colleges do put equal emphasis on liberal arts and STEM when they are looking at a student's
academic resume which is one of the reasons why they are crucial. A liberal arts credit could be
what makes or breaks a student's acceptance letter. Colleges require four years of English Language
Arts, the same amount that is required of math and at some colleges even more than is required of
science (since some colleges only require three years of science). Yet it is deemed less important.
