Education is a stepping stone for one`s success in life. The
skills, knowledge, and overall experience obtained from
learning provide one with an opportunity to be successful in
life. (Perna, 2013) in her book Preparing today's students for
tomorrow's jobs in metropolitan America, she has provided

She identifies that education. American metropolitan is one
such area that requires one to be highly competent in what they
do. They must be well equipped with the relevant skills, and
knowledge for the jobs that await them. As a result, (Perna,
2013) states that earning a decent living in America requires at

some trained skills. Therefore, this has been the motivational
factor for most of the students. Students understand that
acquiring that diploma, undergraduate degree or even master’s
degree is an avenue to at least a better life. This has given
students from all diversities to work hard.
The research in the book “No longer separate, not yet equal:
Race and class in elite college admission and campus life” by
(Espenshade & Radford, 2013) provides another dimension on
what it entails being a student in America today. Things have
changed over the years and the transition has only made
education accessible to all individuals in society. The ability to
compete in class and on the campus as a whole has given the
students from minority an opportunity to compete for the
limited changes in society. Life has been made easier for all
individuals that value working hard. Therefore, with equal
opportunities in these learning institutions, it all depends on the
ability of the students to initiate appropriate measures that
would eventually make them successful in society.
American society today has high expectations for postsecondary
students. In a society where technology has taken over the
running of the world, it’s the millennial that is changing
everything in society for better. As a result, being a college
3. student to them is a privilege that one should use to ensure that
they make their lives better (Espenshade & Radford, 2013). The
high esteem in which the society has for these students has to be
reflected in studies by working hard to meet the expectations of
the society and also attain their personal goals in life. With
scarce resources in society, it’s the hope of the society that
these students would be able to innovate ways to make their
lives better. To ensure that one attains their dreams and meets
the expectation of society, the American students are under
pressure to beat all odds and achieve their goals in society.
American students have been given an equal opportunity to
study what they want to be provided they meet the
qualifications. This is a free nation with the rights of all
individuals. As an American student one has his /her right that
is protected in the constitution of law. However, there is an
issue of concern when it comes to economies. Some of these
students have to go through the education system but the
economics is not friendly on them. For instance, those studying
on loans have to ensure that they complete and stat paying for
the loans before they can establish themselves and invest
(Winston, 1999). This has put students under pressure such that
they can’t complete their studies and forge ahead to achieve
their dreams but they fast have to pay their outstanding loans.
Being a student in America, one is also entitled to getting a loan
to take care of both tuition fees and personal needs. This has
always proved vital for the students that come from poor
backgrounds as they depend on such loans to pay their bills and
be able to study successfully. However, with the increase in the
amount of money given to the students, there is a debate in
society. There is a need to determine if the amount being given
to students being too much to the students or just enough for
their normal lives (Avery & Turner, 2012). The society is
worried about the borrowing trends among students and poor
expenditure of the amount that’s given to them as a loan.
In summary, being a student in America is a double-faced
experience that must be handled appropriately for the benefit of
4. both society and the students. Society has too many
expectations on the students while the students expect the
society to be lenient on them as they work towards shaping their
destinies. Students have also been put into pressure to achieve
and attain a higher status in society due to the resources that
they have been endowed with. Therefore, to be a student in
America today requires that one works extra hard to meet all the
expectations of the society amidst the challenges that one meets
in the quest to be successful.

LITERATURE REVIEW

5. Literature Review

Introduction
Religion and literature is a journal that focuses on the
discussion of the relationship between the faith and the
traditional forms of any epoch, residence, and linguistic.
Religion is viewed as one's belief in the existence of a
supernatural power that is beyond human understanding and has
a powerful divinity towards social action (Garvin,1982).
However, literature approaches religion differently from
religious literature; this is books and journals that widely
discuss religion. These books involved Ramayana and piranhas.
6. Faith is a broad topic that can be viewed from the perception of
legendary in forms of era, place, and linguistic.
Secular has also defined religion as doctrines made as beliefs
and other mystery beyond human power. They also characterize
religion as myths and theology related to the holy trinity
and religious periodicity. Periodicals and journals of secular
literature that has led to opposition of faith have been written
(Garvin,1982). The question remains unanswered whether
religion is real and exists and whether it is made of theories and
mythical stories as viewed from secular opposition.
Psychology has also played a role in defining religion and
identifying the correlation between religion and literature. As
we know, psychology studies human behavior and their fiction
towards a subject. From psychology as a mirror of society,
religion has some elements of truth and other parts that are
beyond human understanding. It is evident that most human
beings believe in faith and have permanent doctrines containing
such rules of religion (Garvin,1982). Psychology, therefore,
concludes there is power in religion that drives and governs
human action as well as regulating social behaviors.
In the evolving world, there are several religious dominions,
which include Christianity, Islamic, Hinduism, and Buddhism,
which are commonly known. The oldest theological journal is a
scripture from the Hindu religion written between 1500-1200
BCE, and the book recorded a history that has survived for
several centuries.
In the ancient, materials explaining religion such as the Old
Greece's belief had been identified as polytheistic, suggesting
they trusted in many spirits. Yes, the deities we recognize as the
Olympics Deities what many religious scholars know as being at
the heart of the ideology. Indeed, some people follow the Greek
gods and the traditional gods. That current religion of Greek
and Hebrew ancient idols is dubbed "Neopaganism."
Literature review
Literature is commonly established as grouped artworks by
7. different authors and from a different perception targeted to
convince humankind on the frankness of the information. From
English men, religion is sacred and vast; thus, no relevant
conclusion van be made. It is composed of ideas from Christian
literature, symbols, and other features, especially in the modern
world. Charles Taylor, who tries to relate secular and religion in
contemporary society, argues that secular age has not attempted
to drive religion away. Still, the era exemplifies the new
religious position by itself. Faith remains a dominant ideology
though optional in modern society (abbey,2014). Religion, like
literature, is also, at least in part, a human invention. Thus
literature, be it God or religion, cannot be exposed to any
foreign rule. Proper research may have or may not have
religious aspects. Philosophy and religion are not inherently
linked. Religious doctrine can be seen as a collection of
structures, a group of concepts and values, or an experience
such as the practices, attitudes, and daily life of individuals and
communities both of those have complicated relationships with
one another. Many of those are influenced by literature and, in
effect, impact it.
The Faith in Literature (American Academy of Religion,1988).
The literature and theology are deeply intertwined. Not
unexpectedly, it is indeed spirituality a central element in
writing, but this has operated as the very communist manifesto
of many literary works from ancient times to the present times.
Some of the set themes in literature that explain religion include
love themes, betrayal, patriotism, gracefully interaction, and
motherhood.
The government has played a significant role in developing
religion by advocating religion through the constitution and
other agencies. Globally, most countries have observed faith in
being a Christian family or the Islamic religion.
Literature books that address issues concerning religion have
developed up to date. Some of these books include the bible,
which explains about Christian beliefs and the doctrine. The
Islamic faith, as well as a Quran that defines their customs
8. (American Academy of Religion,1988). Using religious books
as a source of law in a court of law and the establishment of
kadhi courts has shown a government effort to support religion.
conclusion
Although sociology has made a significant impact on working
on the interaction among religion and social, political, and
economic change in developing countries, the connection among
faith and explicitly international development has been much
less emphasized. I found no novels and just a couple of
publications dealing specifically with this relationship.
Although much of the studies conducted in gender or human
rights religious studies, for example, apply to the creation, the
correlation has not been made explicitly. For example, there are
several studies about the ways religion works

Research Methods
Mr. Green
According to the paper, the importance of having family
being involved in residential care has been in recognition for a
long while. This can be evidenced in the federal law, which has
been put in place, making it mandatory for the family to be
involved in the care of children. There is an important effort
being seen in the community-based programs requiring the
youths to have a close relationship with their families. This is
an essential attempt because it helps in ensuring that the youth
do not miss out on essential stages as they grow.
The paper states that the physical distance existing
10. between the care facility and the friends and family of the kid is
an immense forecaster of the times at which the family will be
contacting the child. If the detachment between the care facility
and friends is big, then there is higher likelihood of the family
failing to visit the children more frequently. Research states
that children are placed at residential care after numerous
unsuccessful incidents of care in other surroundings. A huge
number of paternities desire for their kids to be put in
residential care units closer to their homes. This is in order to
enable them to be in a position of visiting them more often due
to the decreased physical distance.
As the children stay at the residential programs, they have been
noted to respond positively to the care. Most of them show
higher levels of satisfaction if their families visit them
frequently. As the paper states, the level of satisfaction cannot
be used as a good measure, and it can't be highly relied on due
to its dependence on some clinical measures. When the family is
involved in the children stay at the residential care, children
seem to respond more positively and have their periods of stay
reduced greatly.
The paper states that family involvement is linked to academic
and behavioral improvement. Family involvement produces
lasting positive impacts on the child. The paper notes state that
"greater family involvement has been associated with better
post-discharge permanency and lower readmission rates”
(Huefner et al. 2015). This, therefore, confirms the importance
of the parents being involved with their children in the
residential programs.
Researches have been conducted to help in identifying the
most effective types of contact in children. There is a difference
in the effectiveness of different types of methods of contact,
with the most common methods being face-to-face meetings and
phone contacts. Between the two, face-to-face interaction has
been noted to be more effective than telephone contact.
The face-to-face contact is more effective because it helps in
breaking the monotony and also helps in informing the child
11. that he or she still matters. The problem arises when planned
contacts fail to happen as per the plans. Such instances are very
distressing to the children. "Research has shown that when
planned contacts with families do not occur, children can
become distressed and aggressive"(Huefner et al. 2015). Due to
the difference in the impact of different types of contacts and
the physical distance, researchers carried out research to
determine these facts.
Methodology
The researchers analyzed record data for 350 individuals at a
program for the period between July 2009 and October 2011 and
discharged before January 1, 2012. They also ensured that the
program had conducted a follow-up questionnaire on the
individuals for at least six months. 350 was a good number to
carry out research with and make a viable conclusion. The
researchers also ensured that they corrected records for
different months to avoid being biased. The research
methodology applied by the researchers was also free of bias, as
the respondents were from different states. They also relied on
Monte Carlo to determine the number of subjects needed, thus
doing the research to meet the set standards.
Statistic chosen
The power calculations got from the Monte Carlo model by the
application of the simulation which was projected for the
research indicated that a tester of 351 individuals would be in
power in surplus of 0.80 to successfully identify impact scopes
of at tiniest r being equal to 0.09 for the estimation of the
impacts of the distance and varieties contact of friends and
family results. The data was then analyzed by the use of Mplus
6.0 (Huefner et al. 2015). This was then used to determine the
kind of associations that existed between the distance, contact,
and likelihood estimation used to deal with incomplete data. It
was essential to account for the missing data as well to avoid
having gaps in research.
Results
12. The univariate correlations indicated that instances of increased
distance between the family and the program were directly
linked to limited face-to-face interaction. It was, however, not
linked to the telephone contact. Telephoneinteraction was,
however, linked to an increase in troublesome behavior as well
as limited parting success. The increased distance, which was
linked to fewer visits, was linked to better departure success.
This finding contradicted the research as it would have been
expected greater distance to affect departure negatively due to it
being associated with limited visits.
The physical distance between the family and the program was
linked to the number of face-to-face contacts but not to the total
telephone interactions made. It was related to the number of
visits as families found it easier to visit the programs if they
were in close proximity and found it difficult for longer
distances to visit their children. It was, however, noted that
frequent phone calls were detrimental to the children while
face-to-face visits helped in improving their outcomes.

The success attained in life is a result of the knowledge and

life that opens up opportunities
and avenues through which an individual can always fight to
ensure that he makes his life better.
This presents me with the situation of the American students
and the need to understand what
entails being a student in America today. Various factors
influence how students engage in their
academic lives; some have been challenges that have motivated
them while some have always
pulled down the ladder making it difficult for them to achieve
their academic goals. Therefore,
this paper explains some of the challenges that American
students face in their daily lives as
students in some of the prestigious universities and colleges in
the world.

identifies that education is the key to the success that’s highly

must be well equipped with the relevant skills, and knowledge

the motivational factor for most of the students. Students

students from all diversities to work hard, it’s no longer about
the whites-only but all races
compete for such opportunities with the minorities
understanding that a good grade is the most
effective way of beating the dominant groups in society.

The study was done by (Espenshade & Radford, 2013) in their
book No longer separate,
not yet equal: Race and class in elite college admission and
campus life provide another
dimension on what it entails being a student in America today.
Things have changed over the
years and the transition has only made education accessible to
all individuals in society. The
16. ability to compete in class and on the campus as a whole has
given the students from minority an
opportunity to compete for the limited changes in society. Life
has been made easier for all
individuals that value working hard. Therefore, with equal
opportunities in these learning
institutions, it all depends on the ability of the students to
initiate appropriate measures that
would eventually make them successful in society.
Espenshade & Radford, (2013) in their study they also
emphasized the high esteem that
students in colleges and universities are seen in society. society
views these students as the
saviors of the society in the future and their expectations from
the students so high that students
have no option but to work hard against all odds to meet these
expectations. The resources are
scanty just as it’s the case for the employment opportunities.
Therefore, to ensure that one attains
their dreams and meets the expectation of society, the American
students are under pressure to
beat all odds and achieve their goals in society.
Additionally, the study by (Winston, 1999) in his Journal of
Economic Perspectives he
17. provided an analysis of the economics that students face in
these institutions of higher learning.
he describes the process as one of the most effective ways in
which young Americans regardless
of their ethnicity and race have been given equal opportunities
to shape their destine. However,
there is an issue of concern when it comes to economies. Some

establish themselves and invest. In his argument, he believes
that the academic system has put
the students on the pressure to achieve their dreams under tough
conditions.
The author also argued on the productivity of the inputs that
were being put into the
academic infrastructure. The government is pumping a lot of
resources into the system in terms
of student loans, subsidies, costs and the pattern of distribution
is also creating a hierarchy
among the students because the students receive different
amounts. As a result, there is already
an inequality among the students with the resources being used
in this industry not being used in
the right use. There are those students that receive loans yet
they can always take care of their
tuition fees. Winston, (1999) thus argues that the impacts of the
inputs put in the education sector
are not reflecting in society due to the increased debt among
students with limited job
opportunities.
19. Students` loan is also another issue that has been an area of
debate in the nation for a
while. The study by (Avery & Turner, 2012) focuses on the
loans given to the students; with the
research issue being to determine is the amount issued out is
enough or too much to be issued to
the students. However, they argue that college education has
become one of the modern lottery
investments that take place in society today. The amount that
students are borrowing to finance
their academics has grown spontaneously over the last decade
but due to the increased needs and
pressure to have some needs similar to the peers has made
students compete for these loans.
Therefore, the author argues that despite the amount of loaned
being high this is one of the best
modern lottery games that students play with the target of
having better outcomes at the end of
their studies.
