La Vita Nuova
The promise of a new life at a wedding is an optimistic rebirth; the loss of a lover is an obligatory
uprooting. Allegra Goodman s La Vita Nuova records the changed life of a freshly dumped bride
to be. As she endures her altered life, Amanda occupies herself by babysitting her student Nathaniel.
Amanda uses irony, dark humor, and juxtaposition as a coping mechanism; instead of facing the
new life she has to live, she uses sardonic reflection to elongate her mourning period.
When Amanda digs up memories of her ex fiancГ©, her timing and choice of anecdote help her
wallow in rejection for longer. Reflecting on her breakup, she says We had too many differences...
For example, I loved him and he didn t love me (Goodman). She proves this with the things she
remembers her fiancГ© saying to her. There are two basic types of ex fiance quotes: insults with
witty retorts from Amanda and compliments contrasted with Amanda s current cynical views. As an
example of the former, while spending time with Nathaniel, Amanda thinks of her fiance s cutting
words: It s hard to be with you, her fiancГ© had said. I feel like I m suffocating. Open a window,
Amanda had said (Goodman). Instead of living in the moment and enjoying Nathaniel s company,
she insists on dwelling on the past.
Amanda s dark humor applied to her current life makes a mockery of her future. Her ... Show more

By bringing her dress into her 1st grade art class, Amanda allowed the loss of her fiance to incite
the loss of her job. After peeling back an outer layer of literary prose, Amanda is able to reveal to
the reader that Dante s La Vita Nuova details the perfect masochistic love. She then proceeds to
revel in its darkness, responding to a compliment with You re not supposed to say that... You re
supposed to write a sonnet (Goodman). Amanda wants to stay unhappy and unmoving; she admires

Four Principles of Management
Four Principles of Management
Jacqueline Garcia
University of Phoenix
November 10, 2007
Many Fortune 500 companies have management training programs. A company must always have
the competitive edge over its competitors. These companies must invest in creating curriculums to
help the mangers create motivation in the employees as well as attain the goals set forth by the
corporation. According to the Random House Unabridged Dictionary, managementis the act or
manner of managing: handling, direction, or control; skill in managing, the person or persons
controlling and directing the affairs of a business institution, etc. A great manager must know and

The organization needs to have open communication at all times so the employees feel comfortable
in voicing opinions and complaints. Management must always be motivating the team because of
the highly stressful environment. Motivation comes in the form of verbal praise to monetary
incentives at the end of every month. This is a gear that must be in constant motion to make the
employees happy and efficient.
The final principle is controlling. This is the management function of monitoring performance and
making the necessary changes (Bateman, 2007). Keeping an eye on things is the way to be
absolutely certain that everything is going according to plan. Problems will arise but this is why
the plan executed in the beginning will help to create solutions.
Bank of America, being so large, is monitored all the time. We must adhere to state and federal laws
and regulations. Meetings are done frequently to address issues that are happening around the
United States which may directly or indirectly affect performance. The manager of each team
monitors the individuals with all the high tech screens on their computers. Controlling what can be
controlled and having a contingency plan for when problems occur keep the bank at its high peak
in the financial realm.
The four management principles are applied to all great companies. Planning helps set the stage for
the organizing the team to its appropriate places. Leading generates loyalty, and

Seasonal Affective Disorder Case Studies
Peter, Another great post, great detailed writing that offers explanation for Seasonal Affective
Disorder (SAD). Because your post combined with mine, more or less covered the majority of
information, I am taking the discussion in an entirely different direction to present my
hypothesis regarding a factor that might have played into the SAD diagnosis of the case study. I
am purposing that perhaps the newscaster was spending less time in the studio and more time
outside, traveling, taping her stories in advance to be shown later. Field reporting would be the
correct term. I looked at CNN and found that the average newscaster is on air three hours per day,
in the studio (CNN, 2005). Then I looked the lighting that is used in news studios and used for
SAD light therapy, in most cases high CRI (color rendering index) lamps are used in TV studios
and in light boxes used for light therapy (LightTech LightSources, 2016).... Show more content on

Continuing my research, I tried to find if news reporters and anchors suffer with SAD, and found
nothing. I then found an article on lumen and lux. Lumen is the amount of light given off from the
light source and lux is the amount that reaches the person. The lights that are used in light boxes,
for medical phototherapy are 10,000 lux [the same as daylight]. And SAD clients sit relatively
close to the light box. In TV studios, even though the lights are the same lumen, they are on the
average only 1000 lux. My theory is not

Real Estate Planning Case Study
Plan description
In 2010, there is a large investment house company that wants to launch an aggressive campaign
to encourage long term stock investments among private UK investors. This defined returns plan
draws attract investors who look for higher returns than available in deposit accounts, but also
want to be concerned that at least the capital that they invested could be repaid. In general, this
plan provides with different investment terms over four, five, six years, whose returns are 24%,
37.5%, and 45% respectively. At the end of each term, investors could get a fixed return if the
level of the FTSE 100 index is not lower than the level on 11 January 2010 (initial index level).

In other words, it is better to grasp some information about product s issuer in case of the firm may
go bankrupt in the future. After all, this security contract will expire after five years.
Opportunity cost risk. Briefly, individuals could not withdraw a plan easily before maturity date
because not all of the capital will be refund. Therefore, people cannot reinvest if a good project
appears and the yield of the new one is the opportunity cost for investors.
Liquidity risk. It means that an asset cannot be traded rapidly enough in the market to avoid a
loss. Obviously, investors could get back the money if they could sell the plan as quick as
possible, otherwise they will make a great loss especially when expiration date is approaching.
Inflationary risk. When inflation happens, it will undermine the performance of investment. The
capital will be shrink since actual return is not as high as the nominal return. Although investors
will receive money on maturity, the asset would be depreciated.
The types of option
Based on different characteristics about plans, four years and six years plan should be cash or
nothing option and barrier option respectively. Note that there are two assumptions: 1. Investors
will not withdraw plan before maturity, so this option is European option 2. This is a call option
because investors hope that final index is greater than initial index. That is, the calls could offer
profits when

have to learn from us, (A Z Quotes), but what most people fail to assimilate is that animals have
given humans erudition on many subjects. Throughout history, animals have helped with

Environmental And Environmental Issues During The...
Environmental Issues and the Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution took pace from the 18th to 19th centuries. It was a period when rural
areas became industrial and urban. Before the Industrial Revolution, engineering was mainly
done in people s homes. They used hand tools and sometimes basic machines. Industrialization
put an end to that, using powered, advanced machinery, factories and mass production. This
made engineering much faster, easier and more efficient. It even increased the amount of factory
made goods, as well as the variety of them. Industrialization improved the living conditions for
people in the middle and upper classes. The poor and working classes had to do the dangerous
jobs, for a very low amount of pay, while working in harmful conditions. So many people from the
rural areas were moving to the urban areas for work, that they couldn t keep up. This caused
overpopulation. Homes were overcrowded, and people were living in polluted and unsanitary
conditions, which made them more at risk of diseases. Pollution is one of the most environmentally
negative impacts of the Industrial Revolution. Air, water, and soil pollution were extremely bad
during the Industrial Revolution. Industrialization polluted the air, water and soils due to the waste
products that factories generate. Most factories and industries require water for their work. When
water is involved in these processes, it encounters metals, chemicals, and wastes, that will
contaminate it. They are then dumped into oceans and rivers. Doing so, kills fish and other sea
animals, decreasing the population. Farmers us this water to grow their crops. Using contaminated
water then affects the quality of their crops. When the farmers use the water in their soil, it can
cause soil pollution. This pollution will destroy plants if anything or anyone comes in contact with
it, it can cause long lasting health issues. Air pollution can cause a variety of illnesses for people
and the environment. With all of these pollutions, there comes an increase in global warming.
Global warming causes glaciers to melt, extinction of animals, floods, tsunamis and hurricanes,
which are some of the deadliest natural phenomena. If any of these phenomena

The comparison between me or any other creature of the animal kingdom in reference to me as a
student would have to be like that of the reduviidae otherwise referred to as the assassin bug . It
s consistent thirst for a meal is but a mere reflection of my thirst for knowledge. The means of
attack as to which it deploys are quick as well as painless which falls into the nature as to how I
accomplish my goals. If by chance a student falls behind or needs aid I will also help them just as
assassin bugs sometimes hunt in a form of group or pack for their prey. For as many means the
reduviidaehas become an effective in it s means to survive; I have had to adjust my means of
furthering my education.
Though out the years, even as a leader in the U.S. Army, I always perceived myself as a student
never ceasing to learn something new; no different from the assassin bug who craves blood
often feeding on any source to gain a fresh supply. Currently with over 1,000 college credit

Received OJT (On the Job Training) Enabling me to become proficient in the MOS 35F. Lastly,

more; so does the reduviidea feeding on multiple insects as well as even sleeping mammals.

Henry David Thoreau
Biographical Summary
Henry David Thoreau was born on July 12, 1817 in Concord, Massachusetts, and was the son of
John Thoreau, a pencil maker, and Cynthia Dunbar ( Henry... Ency. of World). Growing up in a
modest New England family, Thoreau was one of four children and was accustomed to living
practically (McElroy). As his family was permanently poor, he came to accept a moderate lifestyle,
which may have later influenced his thoughts on the necessities of life ( Henry... Ency. of World).
As a child, he enjoyed exploring nature and was fascinated by its beauty. In his novel Walden, he

of World). His abolitionist efforts and support of civil disobedience were a large part of the
legacy he left behind. He did not advocate violence, but instead encouraged the defense of what is
true and good. Though his works were not very popular when he was alive, his writings and
philosophy greatly influenced many important world figures... the reformer Leo Tolstoy of Russia,
Mohandas Gandhi of India, Martin Luther King Jr., and other leaders of the U.S.Civil Rights
Movement were inspired by Thoreau s ideas ( Thoreau... West s).
Critical Analysis Henry David Thoreau was an influential writer, abolitionist, and leader of the
transcendentalist movement. Through his work, he emphasizes the intriguing pursuit of personal
truth beyond societal definitions. His sagacious observations about human nature are admirable,
and his explanation of the corruption of society is thought provoking. Though he advocates
individualism, he seems to doubt humans ability to completely remove themselves from society,
as this way of life demands. In his novel Walden, he says, The mass of men lead lives of quiet
desperation (Thoreau 5). Thoreau sees the laboring men of his society, and after concluding that
they are ignorant, claims that it is a fool s life, as they will find when they get to the end of it, if
not before (Thoreau 3). Loren Eiseley, a natural science writer, said that Thoreau sometimes had
difficulty in seeing men or, by contrast, sometimes saw them too

Dracula As A Gothic Novel Analysis
Dracula is told through a series of letters, journals, newspapers, and other writings instead of a
single, connected narrative. In literature, Dracula would be not only classified as a Gothic novel
but also an epistolary novel. The letters and journals in Stoker s novel tell the reader the plot of the
story; In the beginning of Draculaafter the reader leaves Jonathan and enters Mina s world, Mina
and Lucy exchange letters back and forth setting up the rising action of the plot of the novel. In
the journals provided by characters in Dracula contained lifelike details about mundane lives.
Stoker uses his characters to create attachment between them and the reader; Reading about a
character s life and believing it to be ordinary gives the reader a sense of realism that is not
provided in most fictional novels. In David Galens Dracula Novels for students, he states It also
helps to counterbalance the supernatural aspects of the novel by making it seem as if the book is
true (Galens 3). In epistolary novels, the point of view is always typically first person. On the
other hand, in Dracula the reader encounters many first person journal entries, this causes the
reader to try and figure out what is going on by piecing together each person s journal entries
encompassing why Dracula is also in Gothic literature due to its mysterious counterparts. Epistolary
novels were on the rise in Stoker s lifetime. Bram Stokers works were often influenced by what was
going on during his life. Bram Stoker lived through many social and political reforms in the
Victorian erawhich can be seen in his writing.
Works created in the Victorian era often idealized the Victorian society values. Dracula
encompasses how Victorians wanted to live and hard truths about Victorian fears. Victorians
were people who lived by set limits and their own morals. In Bram Stoker s novel, his characters
embody how Victorians should and should not be. Victorians biggest fear is their morals being
affected. In Leila May s article Foul things of the Night : Dread in the Victorian Body , she backs
up this claim by stating The greatest anxiety seems to be that of moral and social decomposition, as
if the stench of death might be detected in the very

Native American Tribes Of Native Americans In The 17th And...
During the 17th and 18th centuries, the Illinois were an Indian tribe situated around the Great
Lakes. As with most other Native American tribes, they encountered the French expanders. The
French were expanding their territories to the Great Lakes because of fur trading. They traded fur,
clothes, jewels, and food with the Illinois. After encountering the Illinois traditions and customs, the
French wanted to overpower them and place the tribe under their way of life. A strong Catholic
country, the French despised the Illinois s polygamous and polytheistic lifestyle. In an attempt to
convert the tribes to Catholicism, the French sent missionaries to spread the Gospel and teach the
faith. They were not met with as much adversity as expected. Illinois Indian women were attracted
to Catholicism because of the freedoms the faith gave them from their everyday lives and the
strong influence of a prominent woman from within the tribe. Societal norms in the 17th and 18th
centuries dictated that men fill the role of the head of the household. Similarly, the Illinois men
held power within the tribe. Not only were they in charge of hunting wild game and trading with
the French, but they were also given power over women in their homes. According to document 3,
if a husband found his wife unfaithful, he was given permission to kill her. However, this rule did
not apply to the women. Men were allowed to participate in sodomy and polygamy. They could

The Pros And Cons Of Honey Bees
I am writing to inform you regarding a noteworthy issue that is concerning the world. One that
expects you to take immediate action and prevent the consequences that would ultimately allow the
bees to continue to suffer. Albeit little in size, honey bees and different pollinators are essential in
the creation of sustenance for people and numerous animals. Around 33% of our crops desire
pollination, that would diminish production without these crucial bees. (sos bees.org) Of the whole
U.S. farming industry, $29 billion originate from crops that require pollination. (cnn.com) Despite
their undeniable significance, honey beepopulaces have gotten little consideration and are
discovering it progressively hard to survive.
A recent report conducted by the Bee Informed Partnership demonstrated that beekeepers in the
United States lost 44 percent of their bumble bee settlements in a one year traverse. This denotes
the second year that summer misfortunes equal winter misfortunes of bees. This would resemble
that one day you came to the dinner table and had an average meal. Following one year, the
measure of the food you eat decreased by 44 percent. Consistently after that, a similar thing

Examples Of Free Will In A Midsummer Night s Dream
The theme, fate vs. free will, occurs multiple times in A Midsummer Night s Dream. Fate vs.
free will, occurs in Acts, One, Two, Three, Four, and Five. Shakespeare uses the magic of fairies,
or character to influence situations and people. The fairies take away free will on multiple
occasions, which creates conflict or a comical tone during scenes. Few occurrences of free will
take place in A Midsummer Night s Dream. Firstly, Eques will not allow Hermiato marry Lysander.

Puck manipulates Titania and Bottom through magic. Titania loses all free will, while Bottom
is changed into a donkey against his will. For example, And thy fair virtue s force perforce doth
move me On the first view to say, to swear, I love thee (3.1, 140 41, Shakespeare). Titania loves
Bottom, who has the head of a donkey, against her free will. Oberon placed a love potion on
Titania s eyes, which resulted in Titania loving Bottom. Furthermore, Bottom was changed into a
donkey by Puck. The lines, I see their knavery: this is to make an ass of me; to fright me, if they
could (3.1, 119 20, Shakespeare), allow the reader to know Bottom has the head of a donkey. In
Scene Two, Hermia, Helena, Lysander, and Demetrius have conflict. In the lines, Now she holds
me not; Now follow, if thou darest, to try whose right, of thine or mine, is most in Helena (3.2,

free will results in conflict. In the lines, I will not trust you, I, nor longer stay in your curst
company. Your hands than mine are quicker for a fray, my legs are longer though, to run away
(3.2, 341 44, Shakespeare), Helena is attempting to run away from the situation because Hermia was
upset with the situation. Act Three summarizes the conflict. Shakespeare uses the loss of free will

The Pancreas Relative Essay
1. Describe the anatomic location of the pancreas relative to the other organs in the upper portion
of the abdominal cavity. The pancreas is about 6 inches long and sits across the back of the
abdomen, behind the stomach and liver, leveled with the top of the small intestine and it also
borders the liver, spleen and kidneys. The head of the pancreasis on the right side of the abdomen
and is connected to the duodenum (the first section of the small intestine) through a small tube
called the pancreatic duct. The narrow end of the pancreas, called the tail, extends to the left side of
the body.

The common bile duct originates in the liver and the gallbladder and produces another important
digestive juice called bile. The pancreatic juices and bile that are released into the duodenum, help
the body to digest fats, carbohydrates, and proteins. Endocrine Function: The endocrine component
of the pancreas consists of islet cells that create and release important hormones directly into the
bloodstream. Two of the main pancreatic hormones are insulin, which acts to lower blood sugar,
and glucagon, which acts to raise blood sugar. Maintaining proper blood sugar levels is crucial to
the functioning of key organs including the brain, liver, and kidneys.
4. Describe the hormonal control of the secretion of bile and pancreatic juice during the digestive
process.
5. Explain why proteases are secreted in an inactive state and describe the means by which
proteases are activated in the stomach and small intestine. The enzymes protease, amylase and
lipase, are potent enzymes that are capable of digesting the pancreatic cells a process called
autodigestion. To protect themselves from autodigestion in case the digestive enzymes accidentally
get turned on, pancreatic cells produce enzymes in inactive form called zymogens, which are stored
in membrane bound sacks called zymogen granules. Enteropeptidase (also called enterokinase) is
an enzyme produced by cells of the duodenum

Masculinity of the Romantic American Male in Cooper s Last of the Mohicans and Irving s
Legend of Sleepy Hollow
James Fenimore Cooper s Last of the Mohicans and Washington Irving s Legend of Sleepy Hollow
are valuable examples of literary heavyweights of the Romantic era, but in addition, can also be
used to chart sociological changes within the male gender during pre Romantic and Romantic years.
But because neither Cooper nor Irving s works should be distanced from their cultural backdrops
when considering the socially reflective nature of their work, exploring basic historical conditions
surrounding the changing concepts of masculinity can serve as a useful move.

According to Rotundo, the ideal man was one who ruled as head of his household, believed in the
crucial concept of duty, and upheld stern Puritan religious of morality and social behavior (as the
pleasant, mild mannered, devoted man of the community ). This good man image seems to
coincidentally parallel the English patriarchal gentleman of the seventeenth century.
Social and economic changes around 1820 to 1860 stimulated the Commercial Period, which
produced two distinct spheres of influence: the business world of men and the private domestic
world of women (Grace 10). Instead of the home being a means of production, industry s influence
was being felt for the first time, and with its arrival, men became connected to the public realm
more clearly, and conversely, women to the private realm (10).
But some of the changes also stemmed from politics of the day. At the time of the Revolutionary
War, political upheaval pitched American sons against American fathers, and England s social
influence over her angered citizens began to wane (Manhood 18). Michael Kimmel, author of
Manhood in America: A Cultural History, comments on fledgling America s disenchantment with
British culture:

Specific Word Analysis
Specific words can drastically change someone else s perspective. While some words are heard
and spread around, you don t know its true meaning until it is directed at you.
For me, the word that means so much to me is rejection . It was never really spoken about when
I was young, but it didn t mean I knew what it meant. I constantly felt rejected, whether it was at
school or in society itself. It took control of my childhood; I always kept my mouth shut along
with my ideas in my head. I believed that as soon as I opened my mouth, it would lead me into
instant rejection. My feelings towards this word was highly unhealthy.
I begun to feel this way when I signed up for kindergarten here in the United States. I didn t know

Mexican American, Chinese American and Vietnamese American make up the 1.5 and second

society on average they have only a few years of schooling or no schooling, limited urban job skills
and little or no knowledge of English. Immigrants to the United States are usually called first

The difference between the pervious generation and second generation is that pervious generation
immigrants conflicted between loyalty to their native country and desire to belong in the new
country while the second generations are not. According the article Becoming Ethnic or Becoming

strength in order to aide her on her quest, because: In every generation there is a Chosen One. She

Welcome to the Hellmouth ). In this series, the Slayer is known as Buffy Summers, and the series
follows her as she faces one apocalypse after another, graduating school, dealing with boys and
life and death and all the issues that one expects to arise from a coming of age series. What
makes Buffy unique is that unlike the rest of the Slayers from the generations before her, she
has a collection of friends who help her answer her calling, and together, they create an
enthralling cast that keeps the viewers coming back to relive each episode. Feminists have
hailed Buffy as being one of the most prominent series that deals with feminist issues and
provides viewers with a strong female figurehead; others, however, look at the show with a more
critical eye, wondering just what kind of feminism and feminist ideals are being portrayed in the
series. This paper will touch upon most of these ideas, yet for now, the focus will be on the
character of Buffy herself. . The main character of the series is a young woman who is named
Buffy Summers. Buffy s character is summarized rather neatly by Elana Levine in her essay, Buffy

India s First Genetic Breeding Program Using The Germ...
Keggfarms was established by Vinod Kapur in the year 1967. It is one of India s oldest poultry
centric organisations, set up with the intent to make essential contributions to the development of
poultry in India. This was made possible by pioneering India s first Genetic Breeding Program
using the germ plasm (pure breeding stock). Keggfarms was among the first companies, in the
developing world to come up with this with demonstrable results. As a result of Keggfarms
intervention, India could stand as the only country outside the developed world, which is self
sufficient and self reliant in high yielding poultryand is able to compete favourably with the very
best in the world. Therefore, this industry has developed on the basis of a concept that was
pioneered and validated by Keggfarms.
Vinod Kapur says that he started dreaming about establishing a poultry breeding farm after a deeply
thoughtful, but casual conversation with his father in 1963. The facts that poultry breeding was a
pristine and untested genre in India and related to social concerns were major motivational factors
for him. He quit his position at Western Indian Match Company (WIMCO) to create India s first
genetic poultry breeding farm that he had purchased from Parks Poultry Farm in the United States.
Keggfarms successful experience at genetically breeding poultry in India eventually led the still
protectionist Indian government to mandate that all poultry breeding stocks be bred in India.

The Hero In Odysseus In Homer s The Odyssey
To most people, a hero is a person who is admired for their courage, noble qualities, outstanding

Odysseus shows how clever and talented he is many times throughout The Odyssey. Odysseus is
very cunning, but this does not make him a villian because he uses it to help his crew survive on

The Energy Of Energy Usage
Introduction
Historically, the distillation of alcohol (spirits, wine and vodka) has been a high end consumer in
terms of energy usage. According to U.S. Dept. of Energy, there are more than 40,000 distillation
columns in North America and they consume 40% of the total energy used to operate plants in
chemical industries [1]. As a result, researchers have focused their efforts towards developing
distillation columns that are more compact, utilize compressors to recirculate latent heat and
possess more effective separation technology in order to reduce energy consumption.
The principal topics of research that pose effective solutions to these present day energy challenges
are: the use of divided wall columns (DWC), self heat recuperation ... Show more content on

[3] shows that by using dividing wall columns, the uninstalled equipment cost for the total column
configuration is reduced by about 10%. The capital costs savings result from a reduction equipment
quantity. There are also indirect benefits; a dividing wall column requires less plot area, shorter
piping, electrical runs and smaller storm runoff system [3]. When compared to a conventional two
column system, capital costs savings of up to 30% is typical [2]. In summary, fully thermally
coupled columns/configurations/ arrangements require less energy than conventional counterparts,
because of providing operating conditions that avoid or minimize entropy of mixing formation,
which in case of conventional configurations occurs, more or less pronounced, at the feed stage, the
ends of the columns, and due to remixing of internal flows [8].
Self Heat Recuperation Technology
In order to separate ethanol contents from water, enormous amounts of heat must be applied to the
azeotropic mixture during distillation. According to Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau,
an ethanol water mixture must be distilled at 78.3 degrees Celsius to reach the 80 proof content
level of standard vodka [9]. As a result, the heat needed to distill vodka creates the need to explore
sources of recycled energy. As investigated by Matsuda et al., self heat recuperation technology
utilizes not only latent heat but also the sensible

Perspective Of Perspective
Perspective is the way that people perceive things in the world around them. Common influences
include the way people grow up and how they live their lives. Perspectives are always changing,
and different events in life can cause them to be a certain way. The way we build perspective
depends on who we are as people and they are very important. They affect the way we process
information and make decisions about things in everyday life. Another strong influence to

Often, we absorb most the select information that we have access to without realizing it. As a result,
people may remember events different than they happened without realizing it. It is even common
that the memory itself changes the more it surfaces in our minds. When we remember situations,
we are not remembering the event. We are actually remembering the last time we remembered it, so
we will not end up remembering it the same way. At the same time, our mind changes a memory
every time we think. This could lead to the publishing biased information. Historians must have to
come to a common decision or agreement when documenting history. They must talk through what
they want to document and then decide what to write down. There are strengths of historians
having different perspectives. For example, they explore the many different sides of something
together. There is more information to sort through, even enough to fill in gaps that others failed to
bridge over. Different sides to a story can help people to understand. There are also weaknesses to
historians having different perspectives. Disagreements can cause confusion and conflict. It makes
it harder to know what the truth is, if everyone seems to have different truths. Information could be

disorders due to unhealthy body weight and eating habits. In the case of the triad, the word active
refers to females who display moderate to high intensity levels of performance. The rate of
performance must be high in order to counterbalance the decrease in calorie intake. Females who

Low bone mineral density can result in stress fractures within a female s body (6). Female athletes
with menstrual dysfunction often display low levels of the reproductive hormones estrogen and
progesterone. When the levels of these hormones are low, it is difficult for bones to retain calcium
which causes a gradual loss of bone mass. It has been proven that when comparing amenorrhic
athletes to athletes with regular menstrual cycles, the bone mineral density if reduced by 14% in
amenorrhic athletes and 27% in regular athletic women (7). All three conditions result in serious
health and body conditions which can decrease a female s ability to participate in physical

Back in the 1800 s there were severe floods in New Orleans that displaced their residents more
than one. The floods occurred in 1816, 1823, and 1849. The levees back then were roughly in the
same places that the levees are during Katrina. During the 1849 flood, many residents homes were
flooded for up to 40 days (Colten 3). In the same article, Colten also says, that almost 2,000

My Jungian type was Extraverted, Intuitive, Feeling, and Perceiving, or ENFP. Alternatively,

Ipv6 And Ipv6 Address Resolution Protocol
Since there are so many IP addresses that need to be handled on the Internet, IPv4 and IPv6 need
a way to keep track and configure them. This is normally referred to as address resolution. This
includes translating network layer addresses into link layer addresses, having automatic
assignments of addresses, and routing data to the correct location on a specific network. IPv4 uses
a protocol called Address Resolution Protocol, or ARP, in order to translate IP addresses into MAC
addresses. A MAC address is the unique number given to the network interface card in each
computing device. The reason this needs to be done is because on many intranet networks, the
internal communication and delivery of data is based off of the MAC address rather than the IP
address. The Dynamic Host Control Protocol, or DHCP, handles the automatic configuration and
assignment of IP addresses in IPv4. DHCP is an internal protocol that takes the MAC addresses
of the NICs on a network, and automatically assigns IP addresses. It also keeps track of them so
that two NICs don t acquire the same IP address. Without DHCP every IP address would have to
be entered manually by the system administrator, which would be incredibly difficult considering
how many devices can potentially access a network. IPv6uses similar methods to perform both of
those functions, but there are still important differences that exist to improve the way that IPv6
performs. Instead of ARP, IPv6 uses the Neighbor Discovery Protocol

Life Changing Moment In Life
When reminiscing on my past I m able to recall the certain moments, which have led to a path
where I find myself at a cross road. Searching through the databases of my mind, I m reminded of
cherished memories, though I attempt to pinpoint the times in which I have been successful in my
decision making; I cannot help but deliberate whether my past conveyed such a challenging
decision. My futureis unpredictable, and my choices will decide my prolonged existence; positive
or negative I must act on them now, or else I will miss the train to my forthcoming. Through the
life changing moments, which led to my admiration for the ones close to me; I have found what
identifies me as an individual. Nonetheless, will it be enough for the rapid pace at which my future
emerges?
Life changing, it s a term to identify an event that will forever transform someone, and the life
they are currently living; sounds self explanatory, though it isn t such a simple phrase.
Considering the expression; life changing is watching a friend fight cancer, battling each day not
knowing if she will get better. Moreover, Parents who are combating a recession, struggling to
generate money with the profession they find themselves in; moving from house to house trying
to stay joyful to a child who may not identify the extent of the situation. Trails such as these have
caused my life to be significantly altered. However, these events are only a minor fraction of my
narrative. For instance, I ve helped lead a movement against bullying, being triumphant with the
results. Furthermore, I had the opportunity to represent my school at a World Leadership
Conference, being able to express heartache, happiness, and love to individuals, some who have
experienced horrible tragedies, was such an eye opening experience. These events in my life have
erupt a fire in my soul, and striving to build upon each situation will only be beneficial for my
future endeavors.
Reflecting these life changing moments, I come to a realization that not all memories are so
influential, but more of a comforting feeling. My family vacations to Walt Disney World helped
bring imagination and inspiration inside of a young boy s mind. Playing on my childhood play set

VPN
Introduction:
VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. VPN is a data network connection that makes use of the
public telecommunication infrastructure but maintains privacy through the use of a tunneling
protocol and security procedures. It operates much like a Wide Area Network (WAN). Most
companies actually leased lines, but in either case both solutions are very expensive. As the
Internet became more widely available people started creating VPN solutions that took advantage
of the cheap network access. The idea was to use the Internet s existing links to create a virtual
circuit.
Advantages and Disadvantages of VPN:
Virtual Private Network presents some advantages over the traditional network technologies. VPN

Extranet: Extranet VPNs between a company and its strategic partners, customers and suppliers
require an open, standards based solution to ensure interoperability with the various solutions that
the business partners might implement. The accepted standard for Internet based VPN is the
Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) standard. Equally important is traffic control to eliminate
bottlenecks at network access points and guarantee swift delivery of and rapid response times for
critical data. (A)
VPN Protocols: One of the most popular protocols for VPN is PPTP, which stands for Point to
Point Tunneling Protocol. PPTP is actually an extension to PPP (Point to Point Protocol) which is a
standard for a traditional dial up networking. What PPTP does is packaging data within PPP
packets, and then encapsulates PPP packets within IP packets, that is called datagrams, so they can
be ready for transmission through an Internet based VPN tunnel. PPTP supports authentication,
encryption and packet filtering. The second popular protocol for VPN is IPSec, which stands for
Internet Protocol Security. One of IPSec features is that it includes an integrity check that ensures
that no packets are deleted, added or tampered with during transmission. The other feature is that
IPSec uses machine level certificates which authenticate

Barbie Role Model Essay
Barbie is more than just a doll for young girls, it became a role model for them. Barbie was a
friend, a fashion archetype, and a stylist who transformed young girl lives. Many young girls
were impacted with Barbie s in a materialistic way. For instance, Barbie s clothing style and
accessories became an obsession for young girls to be just like them. Young girls wouldn t even
play with other toys and only focused on their beautiful Barbie, who became their best friend. It
was like these young girls were infatuated with their Barbie Dolls. As time went on, Barbie started
to influence young girls and the media to believe that outer beauty matters, and girls were taught
that they needed to be thin. After looking at these ads in more detail I... Show more content on

There is a new version of Barbie that came out, Slumber Party Barbie. This Barbie caused a lot of
controversy in our society. The reason being, the doll came with a scale that only went up to 110
pounds and a diet book. There was also a sign that said, How to lose weight? Don t eat (HuffPost
UK,2017). Mattel, the maker of Barbie, had numerous complaints from many parents. Due to that,
researchers ran an experiment to test whether the doll did influence young girls on their body
image. There was a survey that was conducted with women that played with Barbie s when they
were younger, 18 out of 25 stated that they would rather be hit by a truck than be fat. In another
experiment that was done by scientists, young girls would be exposed to three different dolls.
On one hand, the young girls that viewed the Barbie had a self image problem, and a desire to be
thin compared to the other girl that looked at the other two dolls. The conclusion of this
experiment proved that young girl s role model was Barbie, and being exposed to that doll
impacted them in a negative manner. As a result, these girls developed an eating disorder. The
empirical reasoning or the bottom up thinking was specific data was collected, and after further
analysis supported the hypothesis. Barbie s do have a significant influence on

Art Class Analysis
When I first arrived at Boston College, I learned and heard through my peers that taking an art
class was something everyone did Junior or Senior year in order to fulfill the core. I had inferred
that an art class was something easier than other classes that provided more traditional classroom
academics. However, I found this to be strange as I never believed that an art classwas easy; in fact
I believe that an art class can be much more difficult than a class like English, Math, or History.
With classes such as those, there are guidelines, structures, and rules you must follow in a strict way
in order to do well. In Art however, these guidelines, rules, and structures are much more transparent
and open to interpretation. In highschool,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Kant s Categorical Imperative For The Practice Of Modern...
Hamza Rafique
15 June 2014
Should Kant s categorical imperative be supported in the practice of modern medicine?
Introduction
Immanuel Kant saw the importance of autonomy long before the field of medicine was as
advanced as it is now through the second formulation of his categorical imperative: Act in such a
way that you treat humanity, whether in your own person or in the person of any other, never
merely as a means to an end, but always at the same time as an end . Kant recognises that it is
autonomy that allows for self actualisation and the manifestation of one s identity through having
the capacity to make self governed choices. Therefore autonomy factor that gives humans the duty
to treat each other as ends and to violate the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kant provides us with these ethical guidelines however there are cases in medicine which illustrate
that a physician s expertise allows him to see that following a patient s autonomous decision may
lead to further suffering causing the health professional to take a paternalistic course of action.
This ethical problem has lead me to investigate whether medical practice should uphold Kant s
categorical imperative, and if not where should we search for a way forward? I intend to analyse
Kant s ethics to see where its strengths and weaknesses lie when applied to the medical field
before exploring other ethical theories in an attempt to find the most suitable means of decision
making in medicine. I will use case studies to illustrate the point that Kant s ethics, although perfect
for an ideal world, does not work in the medical field, nor does a utilitarian approach. This leads us
toward an intuitionist stance in order to keep the benefits of the categorical imperative offers us
while maintaining applicability to medicine.
How could the categorical imperative work in medicine?
The categorical imperative does have strength in its principled and high minded nature that can be
condensed down into the following three formulations:
Act only according to that maxim whereby you can at the same time will that it should become a
universal law without contradiction.
Act in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in

Essay on Jay Gatsby’s Dangerous Illusions in The Great Gatsby
Jay s Dangerous Illusions in The Great Gatsby
America is a land of opportunity and hopes and dreams can become reality. The American Dream
consists of the notion that the struggling poor can achieve financial success through hard work. F.
Scott Fitzgerald s novel, The Great Gatsby, puts this premise to the test while also warning against
the dangers of believing too passionately in any dream. The central character, Jay Gatsby, proves a
tragic hero who succeeds financially but fails emotionally when he attempts to hold onto something
from the past (Mizener 126). Gatsby not only possesses imaginative dreams, but also idealistic
illusions. These illusions eventually result in the unfortunate downfall of Jay Gatsby. ... Show more

Not a second passes that Gatsby does not obsess about what could have been had things worked

Jay Gatsby s current state is one of emptiness and despair because he fails to live in the present
by dwelling too much in the past. Gatsby and Daisy are alike in the fact that both carry well
forgotten dreams from age to age (Fitzgerald 143), but Daisy has moved on with her marriage to
Tom, while Gatsby is left stretching out his arms toward the dark water in a curious way
(Fitzgerald 25). Gatsby finally musters the courage to become reunited with Daisy Buchanan, with
the help of his next door neighbor, Nick Carraway. Nick holds tea at his house and invites the
unsuspecting Daisy. For a few minutes at least, the two connect with passionate intensity, but Nick
makes the observation that:
There must have been moments even that afternoon when Daisy tumbled short of his dreams not
through her own fault but because of the colossal vitality of his illusion. It had gone beyond her,
beyond everything. He had thrown himself into it with a creative passion, adding to it all the time,
decking it out with every bright feather that drifted his way. No amount of fire or freshness can
challenge what a man will store up in his ghostly heart (Fitzgerald 101).
Gatsby finds himself with Daisy again, yet will not accept that they are not meant to be

The Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC)
In the art and literature memorializing the Civil Rights movement, no one individual is more
prominently represented than Martin Luther King Jr. . He is remembered in books, statues, and
even streets bearing his name in almost every city. One historian said, We trapped King in romantic
images... frozen his legacy in worship. King has become the martyr of the Civil Rights Movement
and his legacy has thus overshadowed the legacy of the other activists and groups who helped move
the Civil Rights movement forward, including the Student Non Violent Coordinating Committee,
an organization created by southern black youth. Though King s actions were powerful tools in the
push for racial equality, his efforts were only a part of the overall impetus driving the United States
towards equality. The Student Non Violent Coordinating Committee ( SNCC ) led activism in a
community based, long term protest fashion. At the same time the Southern Christian Leadership
Council ( SCLC ), the group led by Dr. King, used a media powered and more presentation based
protest method to rally Americans at the national level. Towards the end of the Civil Rights
Movement SNCC became more radical in its approach, eventually leading to its own demise, while
the SCLC stayed religiously peaceful. The different ideas and sometimes contradicting actions of
the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committeeand the Southern Christian Leadership Conference
eventually helped lead to the racial equality as we know it

Technology affects unemployment, economic growth, and organisational structure of jobs.
Through innovation in technology, new jobs are created while old jobs are made redundant. There
is also an overall skill upgrading effect while some tasks are deskilled.
Current stage of technological development gives the opportunity of nonstandard work to the
business world. Examples include freelance, telecommuting, workshifting, home working and the
idea of blended workforce, when standard and nonstandard employes work side by side.
Nonstandard jobs are more common for high skilled, high paid workers; it allows more fredom
and flexibility. Some disadvantages of homeworking and teleworking involve absense of team spirit
and lack of face to face social interactions and sharing ideas. In addition management connot easily
monitor, control the activity and make sure that employees are working towards the same goal.
Recently, applying blogs for knowledge sharing and problems solving across the organisation has
dramatically changed the nature of work. Managers use technological methods to encourage
informal coordination and make the workplase more engaging for benefiting the teamwork. Same
communication tools are utilized between managers of different department to combine their work
together or by partner companies to do business together regardless of time zone and language
issues. On the other hand, the usage of the

Compare And Contrast Virginia Woolf Two Meals
Virginia Woolf uses the respective meals served during her visit at the university to illustrate the

male schools through such adjacency. Woolf, in regard to the poverty of the women s school, and
therefore their position in society, uses diverse structure, diction and imagery to differentiate the
descriptions of the two meals. During Virginia s visit at the two colleges, she experienced two

women s college she had a plain, distasteful meal. The meals served to her both have underlying
meanings. She describes the women s meal in lifeless, repetitive

Masked Identity In Watchman s Watchmen
The story of Watchmen brings into question what it means to be a hero. The comic creates a world
where masked vigilantes aren t necessarily the forces for good that American culture presumes
them to be. The heroes of Watchmen are morally questionable and often don t do what most would
consider right. Often, these vigilantes create their identities, at least partly, for reasons other than
just protecting others. This includes using their identities as a way to wrestle with their feelings on
sex and their own sexualities. Masked identity is used as a form of sexual expression in Watchmen.
It can be used for either expressing revulsion towards sex or as a way of fulfilling the needs of a
character s repressed sexuality. Rorschach is perhaps the most extreme example of a vigilante
who uses his masked identity to express revulsion towards sex. Rorschach finds sex in any way,

The Musuo Of Chin Matrilineal Kinship
The Musuo of China: Matrilineal Kinship The practice of matrilineal kinship is considered a myth
by some cultures, but it is indeed very real for the Musuo of China. Matrilineality is the practice of
linear descent through the ancestry of females. Many Western civilizations have a misconception of
what is considered normal on a global scale, but many practices do, in fact, differ widely between
different cultures. To illustrate this, the Musuo s traditions and values in regards to marriageand
familyare based solely on matrilineal kinship, while America s melting pot ideation encourages
unilineal descent, in which the ancestry line can be traced to the wife and/or the husband. In the
paper I will discuss the cultural nature of the Musuo, and the way that marriage and family norms
in Musuo differ from the typical American ideation of family. One indication that Musuo traditions
differ from the American culture in terms of marriage is the lack of a formal union between wife
and husband, as well as the American idea of father and child. According their article Land of the
Walking Marriage (2000), Lu Yuan and Sam Mitchell explain that Musuo fathers do not raise their
own children, but instead cater to their sister s children s needs. American cultural norms include
the belief that blood relatives have a biological attachment to each other, which makes this type of
kinship unacceptable to many conservative minded Americans. Moreover, the dynamics of marital

The Haut Glacier D Arolla
Introduction
A model is a representation of reality, designed to generate outputs from inputs in an attempt to
understand system behaviour (Jones and Gomez, 2010). Many geographers refer to a model by
the classic definition from Kolars and Haggett, 1967: a simplified version of reality, built in order
to demonstrate certain of the properties of reality . Models are often known as analogies which is a
relationship of similarity between two things, a likeness in some function, effect, or circumstance
(Andrews, 1987). Analogue models are only one distinguished in physical geography. Conceptual,
physical and mathematical models are also used (Jones and Gomez, 2010).
Arnold et al., 1998 investigates the behaviour of the Haut Glacier d Arolla in Valais, Switzerland
to predict and explain how glacier drainage systems function. Barron and Washington, 1984, Cox
et al., 2000 and Gildor and Tziperman, 2001 all used a form of climate models. Barron and
Washington, 1984 aimed to explore past climatic change, by investigating the surface temperature
sensitivity by comparing present and cretaceous simulations. Similarly, Gildor and Tziperman, 2001
used a conceptual box model to investigate past climate change, based on oscillations of climate
systems. Cox et al., 2000 also used a climate model, however focussed on future climatic change,
rather than past. The final paper, by Burt and Butcher, 1986 uses a simple rainfall run off model to
explore the hillslope run off system.

Influences Of Moby Dick
The crucial effects that influenced Herman Melville to write his famous novel, The Moby Dick.
From here on, Herman Melville had many life experiences that gave him ideas to write a novel
about this tragic experience he had heard before. This tragic experience was the main influence
in his life to compose his famous novel, The Moby Dick . Speaking about this, Herman was
impressed by the fact he heard about this tragic incident that occurred on November 20, 1820. In
fact, the ship or American whaler where everything happened was named The Essex. The Essex
was Herman s main influence to write the novel due to the fact this novel is based on the real life
experiences Herman went through. Anyhow, Herman was not part of this incident even though he
was stuttered and was shocked by this. Eventually, the crew and the captain, George Pollard Jr,
were able to survive and later on return to Nantucket with the hope of finding another ship to
captain. However, all of this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Herman started to feel a little disappointed in himself because he realized his novel was not selling
much at the moment. Therefore, it was not even close to the popularity this novel has in this

lifetime. Melville s thought the influences he wrote this novel from where not enough to reach the
goal he had with this novel. In particular, The Essex and Nathaniel Hawthorne. Nathaniel
Hawthorne was his second influence to write the novel. Regarding this, Herman Melville dedicated
The Moby Dick to Nathaniel Hawthorne but he was happy with the fact of his literary results.
Notably, Herman had a huge inspiration for Nathaniel Hawthorne due to the fact he is one of the
most respected and admirable writers internationally. Herman had the opportunity to meet
Hawthorne right after he finished writing The Moby Dick in

  • 2. La Vita Nuova The promise of a new life at a wedding is an optimistic rebirth; the loss of a lover is an obligatory uprooting. Allegra Goodman s La Vita Nuova records the changed life of a freshly dumped bride to be. As she endures her altered life, Amanda occupies herself by babysitting her student Nathaniel. Amanda uses irony, dark humor, and juxtaposition as a coping mechanism; instead of facing the new life she has to live, she uses sardonic reflection to elongate her mourning period. When Amanda digs up memories of her ex fiancГ©, her timing and choice of anecdote help her wallow in rejection for longer. Reflecting on her breakup, she says We had too many differences... For example, I loved him and he didn t love me (Goodman). She proves this with the things she remembers her fiancГ© saying to her. There are two basic types of ex fiance quotes: insults with witty retorts from Amanda and compliments contrasted with Amanda s current cynical views. As an example of the former, while spending time with Nathaniel, Amanda thinks of her fiance s cutting words: It s hard to be with you, her fiancГ© had said. I feel like I m suffocating. Open a window, Amanda had said (Goodman). Instead of living in the moment and enjoying Nathaniel s company, she insists on dwelling on the past. Amanda s dark humor applied to her current life makes a mockery of her future. Her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After peeling back an outer layer of literary prose, Amanda is able to reveal to the reader that Dante s La Vita Nuova details the perfect masochistic love. She then proceeds to revel in its darkness, responding to a compliment with You re not supposed to say that... You re supposed to write a sonnet (Goodman). • 3. Four Principles of Management Four Principles of Management Jacqueline Garcia University of Phoenix November 10, 2007 Many Fortune 500 companies have management training programs. A company must always have the competitive edge over its competitors. These companies must invest in creating curriculums to help the mangers create motivation in the employees as well as attain the goals set forth by the corporation. According to the Random House Unabridged Dictionary, managementis the act or manner of managing: handling, direction, or control; skill in managing, the person or persons controlling and directing the affairs of a business institution, etc. A great manager must know and implicate the four major principles of management. The principles of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The organization needs to have open communication at all times so the employees feel comfortable in voicing opinions and complaints. Management must always be motivating the team because of the highly stressful environment. Motivation comes in the form of verbal praise to monetary incentives at the end of every month. This is a gear that must be in constant motion to make the employees happy and efficient. The final principle is controlling. This is the management function of monitoring performance and making the necessary changes (Bateman, 2007). Keeping an eye on things is the way to be absolutely certain that everything is going according to plan. Problems will arise but this is why the plan executed in the beginning will help to create solutions. Bank of America, being so large, is monitored all the time. We must adhere to state and federal laws and regulations. Meetings are done frequently to address issues that are happening around the United States which may directly or indirectly affect performance. The manager of each team monitors the individuals with all the high tech screens on their computers. Controlling what can be controlled and having a contingency plan for when problems occur keep the bank at its high peak in the financial realm. The four management principles are applied to all great companies. Planning helps set the stage for the organizing the team to its appropriate places. Leading generates loyalty, and ... • 4. Seasonal Affective Disorder Case Studies Peter, Another great post, great detailed writing that offers explanation for Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Because your post combined with mine, more or less covered the majority of information, I am taking the discussion in an entirely different direction to present my hypothesis regarding a factor that might have played into the SAD diagnosis of the case study. I am purposing that perhaps the newscaster was spending less time in the studio and more time outside, traveling, taping her stories in advance to be shown later. Field reporting would be the correct term. I looked at CNN and found that the average newscaster is on air three hours per day, in the studio (CNN, 2005). Then I looked the lighting that is used in news studios and used for SAD light therapy, in most cases high CRI (color rendering index) lamps are used in TV studios and in light boxes used for light therapy (LightTech LightSources, 2016).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Continuing my research, I tried to find if news reporters and anchors suffer with SAD, and found nothing. I then found an article on lumen and lux. Lumen is the amount of light given off from the light source and lux is the amount that reaches the person. The lights that are used in light boxes, for medical phototherapy are 10,000 lux [the same as daylight]. And SAD clients sit relatively close to the light box. In TV studios, even though the lights are the same lumen, they are on the average only 1000 lux. My theory is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Environmental And Environmental Issues During The... Environmental Issues and the Industrial Revolution The Industrial Revolution took pace from the 18th to 19th centuries. It was a period when rural areas became industrial and urban. Before the Industrial Revolution, engineering was mainly done in people s homes. They used hand tools and sometimes basic machines. Industrialization put an end to that, using powered, advanced machinery, factories and mass production. This made engineering much faster, easier and more efficient. It even increased the amount of factory made goods, as well as the variety of them. Industrialization improved the living conditions for people in the middle and upper classes. The poor and working classes had to do the dangerous jobs, for a very low amount of pay, while working in harmful conditions. So many people from the rural areas were moving to the urban areas for work, that they couldn t keep up. This caused overpopulation. Homes were overcrowded, and people were living in polluted and unsanitary conditions, which made them more at risk of diseases. Pollution is one of the most environmentally negative impacts of the Industrial Revolution. Air, water, and soil pollution were extremely bad during the Industrial Revolution. Industrialization polluted the air, water and soils due to the waste products that factories generate. Most factories and industries require water for their work. When water is involved in these processes, it encounters metals, chemicals, and wastes, that will contaminate it. They are then dumped into oceans and rivers. Doing so, kills fish and other sea animals, decreasing the population. Farmers us this water to grow their crops. Using contaminated water then affects the quality of their crops. When the farmers use the water in their soil, it can cause soil pollution. This pollution will destroy plants if anything or anyone comes in contact with it, it can cause long lasting health issues. Air pollution can cause a variety of illnesses for people and the environment. With all of these pollutions, there comes an increase in global warming. Global warming causes glaciers to melt, extinction of animals, floods, tsunamis and hurricanes, which are some of the deadliest natural phenomena. If any of these phenomena ... In his novel Walden, he says, The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation (Thoreau 5). Thoreau sees the laboring men of his society, and after concluding that they are ignorant, claims that it is a fool s life, as they will find when they get to the end of it, if not before (Thoreau 3). • 13. Dracula As A Gothic Novel Analysis Dracula is told through a series of letters, journals, newspapers, and other writings instead of a single, connected narrative. In literature, Dracula would be not only classified as a Gothic novel but also an epistolary novel. The letters and journals in Stoker s novel tell the reader the plot of the story; In the beginning of Draculaafter the reader leaves Jonathan and enters Mina s world, Mina and Lucy exchange letters back and forth setting up the rising action of the plot of the novel. In the journals provided by characters in Dracula contained lifelike details about mundane lives. Stoker uses his characters to create attachment between them and the reader; Reading about a character s life and believing it to be ordinary gives the reader a sense of realism that is not provided in most fictional novels. In David Galens Dracula Novels for students, he states It also helps to counterbalance the supernatural aspects of the novel by making it seem as if the book is true (Galens 3). In epistolary novels, the point of view is always typically first person. On the other hand, in Dracula the reader encounters many first person journal entries, this causes the reader to try and figure out what is going on by piecing together each person s journal entries encompassing why Dracula is also in Gothic literature due to its mysterious counterparts. Epistolary novels were on the rise in Stoker s lifetime. Bram Stokers works were often influenced by what was going on during his life. Bram Stoker lived through many social and political reforms in the Victorian erawhich can be seen in his writing. Works created in the Victorian era often idealized the Victorian society values. Dracula encompasses how Victorians wanted to live and hard truths about Victorian fears. Victorians were people who lived by set limits and their own morals. In Bram Stoker s novel, his characters embody how Victorians should and should not be. Victorians biggest fear is their morals being affected. As with most other Native American tribes, they encountered the French expanders. The French were expanding their territories to the Great Lakes because of fur trading. They traded fur, clothes, jewels, and food with the Illinois. After encountering the Illinois traditions and customs, the French wanted to overpower them and place the tribe under their way of life. A strong Catholic country, the French despised the Illinois s polygamous and polytheistic lifestyle. In an attempt to convert the tribes to Catholicism, the French sent missionaries to spread the Gospel and teach the faith. They were not met with as much adversity as expected. Illinois Indian women were attracted to Catholicism because of the freedoms the faith gave them from their everyday lives and the strong influence of a prominent woman from within the tribe. Societal norms in the 17th and 18th centuries dictated that men fill the role of the head of the household. Similarly, the Illinois men held power within the tribe. Not only were they in charge of hunting wild game and trading with the French, but they were also given power over women in their homes. Feminists have hailed Buffy as being one of the most prominent series that deals with feminist issues and provides viewers with a strong female figurehead; others, however, look at the show with a more critical eye, wondering just what kind of feminism and feminist ideals are being portrayed in the series. This paper will touch upon most of these ideas, yet for now, the focus will be on the character of Buffy herself. . The main character of the series is a young woman who is named Buffy Summers. • 27. India s First Genetic Breeding Program Using The Germ... Keggfarms was established by Vinod Kapur in the year 1967. It is one of India s oldest poultry centric organisations, set up with the intent to make essential contributions to the development of poultry in India. This was made possible by pioneering India s first Genetic Breeding Program using the germ plasm (pure breeding stock). Keggfarms was among the first companies, in the developing world to come up with this with demonstrable results. As a result of Keggfarms intervention, India could stand as the only country outside the developed world, which is self sufficient and self reliant in high yielding poultryand is able to compete favourably with the very best in the world. Therefore, this industry has developed on the basis of a concept that was pioneered and validated by Keggfarms. Vinod Kapur says that he started dreaming about establishing a poultry breeding farm after a deeply thoughtful, but casual conversation with his father in 1963. The facts that poultry breeding was a pristine and untested genre in India and related to social concerns were major motivational factors for him. He quit his position at Western Indian Match Company (WIMCO) to create India s first genetic poultry breeding farm that he had purchased from Parks Poultry Farm in the United States. Keggfarms successful experience at genetically breeding poultry in India eventually led the still protectionist Indian government to mandate that all poultry breeding stocks be bred in India. The Hero In Odysseus In Homer s The Odyssey To most people, a hero is a person who is admired for their courage, noble qualities, outstanding acheivements and sacrificing their life for others. Heroes in Greek mythology were often seen as a people who were clever, talented, courageuos, noble, had great strenght, had great victories in battle, connections to the gods and to other supernatural forces. Odysseusshows many signs of heroic traits throughout his quest in The Odyssey. Odysseus is put into numerous life threatening situations but he overcomes them. While Odysseus is overcoming the obstacles he is presented with, he demonstrates that he has the characteristics of a hero. Odysseus shows no signs of being a villian throughout the entire story as he tries to get back to Ithica, his home, and reunite with his wife, family and friends. Odysseus shows how clever and talented he is many times throughout The Odyssey. Odysseus is very cunning, but this does not make him a villian because he uses it to help his crew survive on their quest back to Ithica. Odysseus does not use his cunning to trick innocent people into doing something for Odysseus personal gain. • 29. The Energy Of Energy Usage Introduction Historically, the distillation of alcohol (spirits, wine and vodka) has been a high end consumer in terms of energy usage. According to U.S. Dept. of Energy, there are more than 40,000 distillation columns in North America and they consume 40% of the total energy used to operate plants in chemical industries [1]. As a result, researchers have focused their efforts towards developing distillation columns that are more compact, utilize compressors to recirculate latent heat and possess more effective separation technology in order to reduce energy consumption. The principal topics of research that pose effective solutions to these present day energy challenges are: the use of divided wall columns (DWC), self heat recuperation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... [3] shows that by using dividing wall columns, the uninstalled equipment cost for the total column configuration is reduced by about 10%. The capital costs savings result from a reduction equipment quantity. There are also indirect benefits; a dividing wall column requires less plot area, shorter piping, electrical runs and smaller storm runoff system [3]. When compared to a conventional two column system, capital costs savings of up to 30% is typical [2]. In summary, fully thermally coupled columns/configurations/ arrangements require less energy than conventional counterparts, because of providing operating conditions that avoid or minimize entropy of mixing formation, which in case of conventional configurations occurs, more or less pronounced, at the feed stage, the ends of the columns, and due to remixing of internal flows [8]. Self Heat Recuperation Technology In order to separate ethanol contents from water, enormous amounts of heat must be applied to the azeotropic mixture during distillation. According to Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, an ethanol water mixture must be distilled at 78.3 degrees Celsius to reach the 80 proof content level of standard vodka [9]. As a result, the heat needed to distill vodka creates the need to explore sources of recycled energy. As investigated by Matsuda et al., self heat recuperation technology utilizes not only latent heat but also the sensible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Perspectives are always changing, and different events in life can cause them to be a certain way. The way we build perspective depends on who we are as people and they are very important. They affect the way we process information and make decisions about things in everyday life. Another strong influence to perspectiveis emotionand memory. Often, we absorb most the select information that we have access to without realizing it. As a result, people may remember events different than they happened without realizing it. It is even common that the memory itself changes the more it surfaces in our minds. When we remember situations, we are not remembering the event. We are actually remembering the last time we remembered it, so we will not end up remembering it the same way. At the same time, our mind changes a memory every time we think. This could lead to the publishing biased information. Historians must have to come to a common decision or agreement when documenting history. They must talk through what they want to document and then decide what to write down. There are strengths of historians having different perspectives. It has been proven that when comparing amenorrhic athletes to athletes with regular menstrual cycles, the bone mineral density if reduced by 14% in amenorrhic athletes and 27% in regular athletic women (7). All three conditions result in serious health and body conditions which can decrease a female s ability to participate in physical activities. • 38. Ipv6 And Ipv6 Address Resolution Protocol Since there are so many IP addresses that need to be handled on the Internet, IPv4 and IPv6 need a way to keep track and configure them. This is normally referred to as address resolution. This includes translating network layer addresses into link layer addresses, having automatic assignments of addresses, and routing data to the correct location on a specific network. IPv4 uses a protocol called Address Resolution Protocol, or ARP, in order to translate IP addresses into MAC addresses. A MAC address is the unique number given to the network interface card in each computing device. The reason this needs to be done is because on many intranet networks, the internal communication and delivery of data is based off of the MAC address rather than the IP address. The Dynamic Host Control Protocol, or DHCP, handles the automatic configuration and assignment of IP addresses in IPv4. DHCP is an internal protocol that takes the MAC addresses of the NICs on a network, and automatically assigns IP addresses. It also keeps track of them so that two NICs don t acquire the same IP address. Without DHCP every IP address would have to be entered manually by the system administrator, which would be incredibly difficult considering how many devices can potentially access a network. IPv6uses similar methods to perform both of those functions, but there are still important differences that exist to improve the way that IPv6 performs. Instead of ARP, IPv6 uses the Neighbor Discovery Protocol ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He is remembered in books, statues, and even streets bearing his name in almost every city. One historian said, We trapped King in romantic images... frozen his legacy in worship. King has become the martyr of the Civil Rights Movement and his legacy has thus overshadowed the legacy of the other activists and groups who helped move the Civil Rights movement forward, including the Student Non Violent Coordinating Committee, an organization created by southern black youth. Though King s actions were powerful tools in the push for racial equality, his efforts were only a part of the overall impetus driving the United States towards equality. The Student Non Violent Coordinating Committee ( SNCC ) led activism in a community based, long term protest fashion. At the same time the Southern Christian Leadership Council ( SCLC ), the group led by Dr. King, used a media powered and more presentation based protest method to rally Americans at the national level. Towards the end of the Civil Rights Movement SNCC became more radical in its approach, eventually leading to its own demise, while the SCLC stayed religiously peaceful. The different ideas and sometimes contradicting actions of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committeeand the Southern Christian Leadership Conference eventually helped lead to the racial equality as we know it ... • 48. Compare And Contrast Virginia Woolf Two Meals Virginia Woolf uses the respective meals served during her visit at the university to illustrate the variation between the two schools. Woolf makes a powerful distinction between the female and male schools through such adjacency. Woolf, in regard to the poverty of the women s school, and therefore their position in society, uses diverse structure, diction and imagery to differentiate the descriptions of the two meals. During Virginia s visit at the two colleges, she experienced two distinct situations. At the men s college she was served a fancy, full course dinner while at the women s college she had a plain, distasteful meal. The meals served to her both have underlying meanings. • 49. Masked Identity In Watchman s Watchmen The story of Watchmen brings into question what it means to be a hero. The comic creates a world where masked vigilantes aren t necessarily the forces for good that American culture presumes them to be. The heroes of Watchmen are morally questionable and often don t do what most would consider right. Often, these vigilantes create their identities, at least partly, for reasons other than just protecting others. This includes using their identities as a way to wrestle with their feelings on sex and their own sexualities. Masked identity is used as a form of sexual expression in Watchmen. It can be used for either expressing revulsion towards sex or as a way of fulfilling the needs of a character s repressed sexuality. Rorschach is perhaps the most extreme example of a vigilante who uses his masked identity to express revulsion towards sex. Rorschach finds sex in any way, shape, or form to be one... Later, just before Laurie and Dan attempt to have sex for the first time, Laurie calls Dan inhibited and Dan is physically unable to have sex (225 227). In the dream Dan has after the failed sex, Dan does not feel like he has been completely undressed until he not only removes his clothes, but removes the skin of Dan to reveal the Nite Owl underneath (228). This visually represents Dan is not himself and at his most sexually uninhibited until he becomes Nite Owl. In the dream, he also needs Laurie to turn from being dressed as a dominatrix he encountered, the representation of desires slightly more conventional than his own, to being her own masked identity, Laurie Jupiter, to fit his own desires. • 50. The Musuo Of Chin Matrilineal Kinship The Musuo of China: Matrilineal Kinship The practice of matrilineal kinship is considered a myth by some cultures, but it is indeed very real for the Musuo of China. Matrilineality is the practice of linear descent through the ancestry of females. Many Western civilizations have a misconception of what is considered normal on a global scale, but many practices do, in fact, differ widely between different cultures. To illustrate this, the Musuo s traditions and values in regards to marriageand familyare based solely on matrilineal kinship, while America s melting pot ideation encourages unilineal descent, in which the ancestry line can be traced to the wife and/or the husband. In the paper I will discuss the cultural nature of the Musuo, and the way that marriage and family norms in Musuo differ from the typical American ideation of family. One indication that Musuo traditions differ from the American culture in terms of marriage is the lack of a formal union between wife and husband, as well as the American idea of father and child. According their article Land of the Walking Marriage (2000), Lu Yuan and Sam Mitchell explain that Musuo fathers do not raise their own children, but instead cater to their sister s children s needs. American cultural norms include the belief that blood relatives have a biological attachment to each other, which makes this type of kinship unacceptable to many conservative minded Americans. Moreover, the dynamics of marital behavioral ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. The Haut Glacier D Arolla Introduction A model is a representation of reality, designed to generate outputs from inputs in an attempt to understand system behaviour (Jones and Gomez, 2010). Many geographers refer to a model by the classic definition from Kolars and Haggett, 1967: a simplified version of reality, built in order to demonstrate certain of the properties of reality . Models are often known as analogies which is a relationship of similarity between two things, a likeness in some function, effect, or circumstance (Andrews, 1987). Analogue models are only one distinguished in physical geography. Conceptual, physical and mathematical models are also used (Jones and Gomez, 2010). Arnold et al., 1998 investigates the behaviour of the Haut Glacier d Arolla in Valais, Switzerland to predict and explain how glacier drainage systems function. Barron and Washington, 1984, Cox et al., 2000 and Gildor and Tziperman, 2001 all used a form of climate models. Barron and Washington, 1984 aimed to explore past climatic change, by investigating the surface temperature sensitivity by comparing present and cretaceous simulations. Similarly, Gildor and Tziperman, 2001 used a conceptual box model to investigate past climate change, based on oscillations of climate systems. Cox et al., 2000 also used a climate model, however focussed on future climatic change, rather than past. The final paper, by Burt and Butcher, 1986 uses a simple rainfall run off model to explore the hillslope run off system. To what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Influences Of Moby Dick The crucial effects that influenced Herman Melville to write his famous novel, The Moby Dick. From here on, Herman Melville had many life experiences that gave him ideas to write a novel about this tragic experience he had heard before. This tragic experience was the main influence in his life to compose his famous novel, The Moby Dick . Speaking about this, Herman was impressed by the fact he heard about this tragic incident that occurred on November 20, 1820. In fact, the ship or American whaler where everything happened was named The Essex. The Essex was Herman s main influence to write the novel due to the fact this novel is based on the real life experiences Herman went through. Anyhow, Herman was not part of this incident even though he was stuttered and was shocked by this. Therefore, it was not even close to the popularity this novel has in this present time. To illustrate, The Moby Dick only sold around three thousand copies in Melville s lifetime. Melville s thought the influences he wrote this novel from where not enough to reach the goal he had with this novel. In particular, The Essex and Nathaniel Hawthorne. Nathaniel Hawthorne was his second influence to write the novel. Regarding this, Herman Melville dedicated The Moby Dick to Nathaniel Hawthorne but he was happy with the fact of his literary results.
