Li-Fi technology uses visible light communication (VLC) to transmit data wirelessly using LED light bulbs instead of radio waves. It provides higher security than Wi-Fi since light cannot pass through walls. Li-Fi has significantly higher data transmission rates, up to 10Gbps, and has advantages like avoiding radio interference and utilizing the unused visible light spectrum. • Harald Hass, a professor at the University of Edinburgh who began his research in the field in 2004, gave a debut demonstration of what he called a Li-Fi prototype at the TED Global conference talk on Visible Light Communication in Edinburgh on 12th July 2011.

7. Wi-Fi vs Li-Fi
• Li-Fi can be thought of as a light-based Wi-Fi. That is, it uses light
instead of radio waves to transmit information.
• Instead of Wi-Fi modems, Li-Fi would use transceiver-fitted LED
lamps that can light a room as well as transmit and receive information.
• Wi Fi is great for general wireless coverage within building and Li Fi is
ideal for high density wireless date coverage in confined area and for
relieving radio interference issues.

9. Advantages of Li-Fi
• Li-Fi can solve problems related to the insufficiency of radio frequency
bandwidth because this technology uses Visible light spectrum that has

Wi-Fi cannot.
