Innovative Approaches to Corporate Management
Innovative approaches to Corporate Management
Felipe Guadalupe Innovative approaches to Corporate Management
A company is only as strong as its weakest link. In order for it to succeed in today s competitive
market, the company will have to depend on the acquisition and application of good, relevant
knowledge on which to base its decisions. For that to happen, good and sound decision making has
to be a part of everyday business. Therefore, corporate managers have taken innovative approaches
to corporate management by creating consistency and unity towards a purpose, along with an
environment where both the company and employees can excel.
Experienced managers have come to realize how they impact their subordinates and that most ...

He gave them full reign over the ship by establishing three rules. The crew could not do anything
that would damage the ship, hurt themselves or others, or waste taxpayers money.
In the end it would pay off. The ship s retention went from 20% to 100%. That team spirit had
finally unfolded to show a display of new founded camaraderie through out the ship which helped
earn them the Spokane Trophy for the best ship in the Pacific Fleet.
It is important to exhibit and practice good leadership qualities to have people willingly follow your
instructions. Companies not only need good leaders, they need good managers as well to controls
resources and expenditures to allow the company to prosper. There are many different models of
management strategy that corporate management can follow to assist them in helping their
company evolve. Process based management, corporate entrepreneurship, and Total Quality
Management (TQM) are some of them, just to name a few.
Process based management deals with how companies provide products and services to their
customers. It focuses on five areas to help develop longevity for the company. First is promoting
a process based culture, where people are trained in the mindset of learning a process so that they
do not even have to think about what they are doing, they just react to a learned behavior. Second,
there is managing end to end business processes. Here is where the focus is on how to improve on
the process from start to finish,

Discuss The Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Abbabfrica...
After the Zimbabwe Africans People Union (ZAPU) and the Zimbabwe African National Union
(ZANU) were banned by the Rhodesian state, they fled to Zambia and Mozambique. There, they
formed the insurgent organizations Zimbabwe People s Revolutionary Army (ZIPRA) and the
Zimbabwe African National Liberation Army (ZANLA), respectively. While the two parent
political parties differed in their ideological views regarding the inclusion of Maoist philosophy in
their Marxism, their militarymovements did not differ significantly in their structure or behavior.
The recruitment patterns of both organizations followed similar patterns, with the movements
engaging in forced conscriptionin the early years before eventually becoming volunteer
organizations once they were firmly established. The individuals who joined consisted of both
youth from the African intelligentsia and uneducated individuals from the tribal frontier areas. Both
guerrilla organizations were led by cadre who received their orders from a military council within
the parent political organization, reflecting a clear subordination of military forces to the civilian
leadership. In the earliest days of the conflict, the guerrilla fighters were recruited from the political
movements within Rhodesia. The volunteers were given cover stories that they were leaving the
country to attend academic courses, when in reality, they were being sent abroad to receive
military training. By the late 1960 s, the existing supply of

The Sliced-Crosswise Only Tuesday World Summary
A.Eternium Cylinders, or stoners as the characters in The Sliced Crosswise Only on Tuesday
World call them, are essentially pods in which people will hibernate until their next day arrives.
Eternium cylinders could be scientifically based on cryonics, in which a person s body will be
frozen and their bodily functions will pause until they are taken out of the chamber. This is
significant in The Sliced Crosswise Only on Tuesday World by Philip Jose Farmer because the
world has become overpopulated and the only way to reduce the stress is to have groups of
people live only one day a week. B.A glittering metallic framework, scarcely larger than a small
clock, and very delicately made. This is an excerpt from H.G. Wells The Time Machine in which
the time traveler is displaying a small replica of his time travel device to his friends. This small
model has the same capabilities as its full size counterpart, as was demonstrated in the novel as the
model launched into the future (or the past). This model is scientifically based in the theory of
time travel and how our perception of time could be altered. This model time machine is significant
to the story because the time traveler uses it in an attempt to convince his friends that he himself is
going to be the first person to travel into the future. C.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Soma is a means of mind control in Aldous Huxley s Brave New World. Soma is a drug given to
the citizens of the World State to make them more euphoric and to better accept their fate as
citizens in this dystopian society. The scientific basis of soma is that it is an opiate that makes the
user feel happy; the user feels happy and is therefore easily manipulated. It could be argued that
soma is basically alcohol; people take it to escape from reality and to feel better about themselves.
Soma is significant to the novel because the government uses soma to control the World State
citizens and take away their individuality, which makes them easier to

Esstj Strengths And Weaknesses
All my friends have always called me loyal to a fault aka I would follow anyone I trust over a
cliff.Whether this can be considered a strength or a weakness is up to you. Being a ESTJ it is
claimed that my strengths include multiple things but the few that I believe directly apply to me
are strong willed, direct, and enjoy creating order/organizing.My weaknesses as a ESTJ that I
relate too are being stubborn, finding it difficult to relax, and a difficulty in expressing my
emotions. Growing up shaped me into who I am today which reflects in my results as a ESTJ.
Being described as strong willed is something that has been with me since I was little. To me I
take this as a complement as comparatively my sister was the type of person to fly under the
radar and try to be a people pleaser.I could never comprehend that because it was just not in my
build to do that. I was determined to do things my way because that is all I could understand.

This follows accordingly right in line with my other characteristics such as being strong willed.
To me it is just a more negative way of wording strong willed. Being stubborn to me is being
strong in your opinions and thoughts which I for sure am.I do not see this as weakness and
never will.Something that I do consider a weakness is the inability to relax myself. I am
constantly going and thinking. It is hard for me to turn off my thoughts, especially with my
anxiety disorder mixed in with my personality type. I am a factual person I look at real world
statistics and follow them, no dreaming of possibilities which makes it hard for me to express my
emotions. Mostly because my emotions consist of facts and if i m expressing them it is
straightforward and extremely truthful which can scare people or come off as mean. I usually just
keep my thoughts in my head that way I can not hurt

Summary Of Appiah s Kindness To Strangers
If faced with globalization, these people may move away or even learn different languages and
just generally become different. This, in Appiah s view, is not something that we should prevent
from happening because within these tiny homogenous pockets are people that long to be different
therefore, by allowing contamination to occur, you allow people to shape their own lives instead
of them being oppressed into a cultural homogeneity: there is no place for the enforcement of
diversity by trapping people within a kind of difference they long to escape. (105) Kindness to
Strangers In this last chapter, Appiah discusses the stranger kindness predicament in which there is
a dilemma about how, and when strangers should commit acts of kindness

Class Conflict In Grapes Of Wrath
Kelsie Kimbrough

AP English Literature/ Period

In the Midst of Hopelessness
John Steinbeck s novel, The Grapes of Wrath, takes place during the Great Depression, a time
when troubled and distressed American men and women lived; a time of poverty and an economic
crisis. When change is thought upon, it is to be thought of new life and new experiences. The Great
Depression is the kind of change that replaces a part of American living with Somepin s
happening. I went up an I looked, an the houses is all empty, an the lan is empty, an this whole
country is empty ( Steinbeck 94). In his work, Steinbeck presents the hardships that Americans had
to go through by being mindful of particular aspects which makes the reader understand the
characters distress. For example, the landscape of the farm lands. Even though the land has its
brutality, it grows to be the scenery for humans to be able to recognize and consider their troubles
about work and life in general. With these concerns, there are differences between the people who
are accustomed to the landscape and admire it, and those who do not agree with it. In the novel,
Steinbeck uses attributes of class conflict and injustice as a way of presenting and socially
commenting that the Great Depression brought attention to more problems beyond the idea of
poverty.
The class conflict between the poverty stricken migrants and the settled, assured business occupied
Californians make for a powerful analysis

Knowing God by J.I Packer
In this modern day, many people claim to be Christians, but I believe that there is a distinction
between Christians and disciples . Throughout my day, I ve realised that almost any person can
call themselves Christians, but to be called a disciple is completely different. To call yourself a
Christian you carry the gift of salvation with authenticity. A disciple also carries the responsibility
of living in holiness. As scripture shows us in Hebrews 12:14 follow peace with all man, and
holiness, without which no man shall see The Lord. Therefore there are various distinctions
between those who claim they are Christian and those who are truly disciples. One value that the
disciple must hold dear to his life is that he/she should know God, and J.I. packer shows us how to
know The Lord by introducing us to the study of God.
Packer begins his proposal to know God by explaining the study of God and his divinity, which is
theology. He explains that the theory of theology should begin to humble one s mind, which
expanding it. Packer states that he who often thinks of God, will have a larger than the others. This
also implies the distinction on christians and disciples. Packer then introduces five basic, interesting
principles for genuinely knowing God. The first principle is the bible. The bible is Gods word here
on earth, many many times, all the answer we need for any type of afflicting dilemma can be
found in Gods word. I totally agree with J.I. Packer when he

Speech Before Congress By Carrie Chapman Catt
Three Years after Speech before Congress was delivered by Carrie Chapman Catt, a well known
leader of the women s suffragist movement were women granted the right to vote and receive all
rights as citizens. Catt s speech was a major stepping stone for Congress to pass the 19th
amendment. She was able to deliver her speech in a manner, which was persuasive to congress
because it encompassed all the rhetorical appeals. Not only did she describe benefits to
enfranchising women, she also spoke to the patriotism of her audience to further her cause. Catt
crafted her argument by presenting herself with authority and knowledge, she also used
undeniable logic by referring historical precedence, and she evoked sympathy in her audience by
describing the trials of disenfranchised women to create a powerful argument. While speaking
before Congress Catt knew her audience would be men that felt an immense pride in their country,
therefore she spoke to their patriotism. We women will be free to support loyally the party of our
choice, and we shall be far prouder of our history. (Catt 66) With that statement, Catt wanted her
audience to know, that women also felt great pride in their country. However, to truly be a part of
this great nation and be considered citizens would be an honor far greater. There wasn t anything
that would make women prouder than to be part of the decisions that impact growth and
development of this country. Catt wanted to reassure the men in Congress that women

Analysis Of Development Of Solar Architecture Essay
Analysis of development of solar architecture in China: How has modern architecture been
redefined by this and Could it be the key factor in build a non renewable energy free generation?
Introduction
In the past century, our society had changed rapidly due to varieties of newly found awareness
such as the concept of global warming and shortage of our finite power supply. These awarenesses
caused us to adapt and develop new techniques in order to survive. One of the many things that had
been changed in our society were the architectures especially in the more developed countries such
as England ,America and China. As such, the concept of sustainability had entered into the
consciousness of architects and became an essential concern in the discourse of architecture (1).
With sustainability as priority in mind, architectural designs now focuses on how to increase the
reduction of non renewable energy usage by using the energy exacted from nature itself.
For this dissertation, the main objective is to fully analyse how the idea of using green energy as an
alternate source of energy had effect the architecture in China. Amongst the countless type of
sustainable architecture, I have chosen to analyse the Solar Architecture in China as the main focus
for this dissertation. In China, The concept of using solar energy as a direct power source had only
been acknowledge in the recent years yet , as of 2005, China had became the leading solar energy
pioneer in the world. So how

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Passwords
Current authentication systems suffer from many weaknesses. Textual passwords are commonly
used. Users tend to choose meaningful words from dictionaries, which make textual passwords
easy to break and vulnerable to dictionary or brute force attacks. Many available graphical
passwords have a password space that is less than or equal to the textual passwordspace.Smart cards
or tokens can be stolen. Many biometric authentications have been proposed. However, users tend to
resist using biometrics because of the intrusiveness and the effect on their privacy. Moreover,
biometrics cannot be revoked.
According to research paper 3D Password A Secure Tool published by Banita Chadha in the year

Summary Of A Child s View From Gaza
Critical Analysis Description The item that I chose for my critical analysis is a drawing from A
Child s View from Gaza: Palestinian Children s Art and The Fight against Censorship . The book
is a collection of drawings created by Gazan children that was supposed to be showcased at the
Museum of Children s Art in Oakland, California until it was censored. The artwork was created
by children who were living in Gaza during Operation Cast Lead, which lasted from December
2008 to January 2009. It was a 3 week armed conflict between Hamas and Israel which ended
with a ceasefire. Israel claims that it wanted to stop illegal weapon smuggling into Gaza and stop
militants from sending more rocket fire into Israel. The conflict raged for 3 weeks,... Show more

The art was a part of the therapy that the children receive for their PTSD, which has developed as
a result of the conflict. It highlights how the proximity of the children to the conflict has
impacted their lives. These children have witnessed violence and suffering throughout their
whole childhood, and have had their innocence seized from them. The children are not
responsible for the attacks that are executed by Hamas or other militants, but they have to deal
with the repercussions of it. Innocent children who have hopes and dreams of a better future
were watching their world fall apart during this war. It leads them to think that the future is
bleak, grim and unsafe. The image of the tanks chasing after the women and children points out
the grim reality of what children faced during Operation Cast Lead. They saw the soldiers
entering their homes and causing mass destruction, leading to them feeling unsafe. These
children have fear, deeply embedded into their souls, and are afraid of living in their own
homes. I don t think that that is very fair, because a child is supposed to feel loved and safe in
their land. They shouldn t feel petrified or have to suffer, but this is not the case for Palestinian
children. Palestinian children are trapped in an endless cycle of war, trauma, suffering, and
healing. The never ending cycle is detrimental to their mental health and morale as a people, but
they still hold onto a twinge of hope. So while Palestinian children can be seen as an oppressed
group, at the same time they can also be considered to be one of the strongest groups of peoples to
exist. They have dealt with negativity and suffering, and yet still prevail at the end of the

Essay on The War on Terror
War on terror refers to the ongoing military campaign led by U.S and U.K against organizations
identified as terrorists. Terrorism can be defined as an unlawful violence or war deliberately
targeted to civilians. It can also be defined as a systematic use of terror to coerce or violent acts
intended to create fear. This threat is normally perpetrated for religious, political or ideological
goals. The conflict as also called by other names. They include World War III, The Long War, War

Underlying conditions that terrorists seek to exploit were reduced. This was a measure that was
used to reduce the chances of unlawful attacks on the globe. U.S partnered with the international
community to empower weak states and prevent emergence of terrorism. To date, this can be seen
in Libya, Cote Devore and Somalia where the states have no proper governments. The international
troops have been deployed in the above states to ensure that terrorists do not utilize such loopholes
to attack the citizens.
Fighting the War on Terror
War on terror is a global challenge. A number of ways have been put across to fight the problem led
by the United States of America. Defeating terrorist has been found to be a very effective way of
fighting this threat. It is achieved by identity, location and destruction of the terrorists along with
their organizations. Once the unlawful activities are spotted, they are confirmed and relevant
actions taken against them instantly. Evidence is the U.S bombing of Saudi Arabia and
Afghanistan in pursuit of Al Qaeda network which was successful because Osama was later found
and killed.
Strategy of targeted killings is also a major way to fight terror. This is a method that focuses on
the individuals who bear the greatest responsibility. The aim is to catch them alive or dead. It has
indeed borne fruit over the years. Evidence is the demise of Sadaam, Fazul and the recent killing of

How Does Mary Oliver Use Nature In Poetry
Poets, like many writers, have used nature as their topic of choice for centuries. Two specific
poets used nature in similar ways in their poems. They took different approaches in the type of
poem they wrote, however. Ode to enchanted light by Pablo Neruda and Sleeping in the Forest by
Mary Oliver are two poems that are similar in topic and figurative language but are different in
form.
Both poems use nature as the main topic and use similes and metaphors as figurative language to
compare nature to life. In Ode to enchanted light Neruda tells about the sun shining through the
trees and other comparisons with nature. Oliver, in Sleeping in the Forest describes what it s like
to spend the night in the forest in similar ways. Under the trees light/has dropped from the top of
the sky,/light/like a green/latticework of branches.... (1 5). This quotation, taking place in nature,
uses a simile to compare how light from the sun shines through the trees making it look like a
lattice. This quote is similar to Sleeping in the Forest because Mary Oliver uses a simile to compare
her thoughts, out in nature, to moths floating through the branches of a tree. As you can see, both ...

Sleeping in the Forest is considered a free verse poem so her poem has no consistent rhyme or

the stars/but my thoughts, and they floated/light as moths among the branches/of the perfect trees.
(5 11) This quote shows there is no rhyme scheme or consistent rhythm to the poem; instead it
sounds more like natural speech. Ode to enchanted light follows a more traditional poem format
with stanzas and patterns usually seen in odes. This demonstrates the main difference found

of improved materials, ultra fine pozzolans (e.g. silica fume), low water cement ratio, improved
quality and higher dosage of superplasticizer, use of fibers (metallic or synthetic) to increase the
energy absorption capacity and decrease brittleness, high cementitious materials content, longer
mixing time and heat treatment [1]. UHPC tensile strength varies from 10 to 30 MPa; and the
modulus of elasticity is in the range of 60 100 GPa [2].
Using UHPC in the construction of new bridges and the renewal of existing highway bridge
network can minimize maintenance requirement in the construction of new long life bridges
resulting in low life cycle costs [3].
Despite its exceptional material properties, UHPC s initial construction cost is significantly higher
than that of normal strength concrete (NSC), which limited its use in North America and elsewhere.
To address some of the challenges facing bridge owners, the structural efficiency and cost
effectiveness of using UHPC in composite construction is investigated in this paper. Therefore,
combining NSC with UHPFRC in a composite

Rhetorical Analysis Of Senator Barack Obama
Rhetorical Analysis Essay Senator Barack Obama, in his address, A More Perfect Union (March
18, 2008), pushes back criticism from politicians and Americans alike, regarding inflammatory
comments made against the country by his former pastor. Obama is calling on his fellow
Americans to consider the role that race has played in dividing the country and in developing a
more perfect union. Through his use of characterization to establish his foundation as a person
who has the same struggles as everyone else and is not just some perfect politician, followed by
use of repetition in the middle of his address, he is establishing his true opinions about his pastor s
comment, and a final use of parallelism towards the end of his address to channel... Show more

He does this because it gets his view before the public eye and it corrects any misunderstanding
about whether he believes what his pastor believes. As he answers the questions, he attempts to
end the controversy, hoping it will not be held against him during the election and people will
vote for him. In his address, he also utilizes parallelism to bring the focus back to the foundation
of his campaign. Obama says, We can accept a politics that breeds division and conflict and
cynicism. We can tackle race only as a spectacle as we did in the OJ trial . . . That is one option .
. . This time we want to talk about the crumbling schools that are stealing the future of black
children and white children and Asian children and Hispanic children and Native American
children. This time we want to reject cynicism that tells us that these kids can t learn . . .. (Obama,

continue on forever, and contrasting them with what America could do that would actually help it
in the long run. He uses repetition to bring the attention back to what he would tackle as president.
He is taking the pastor s negative comments and addressing them, but instead of focusing on all the

The Role Of An Oreo-Black
It would be impossible to count how many times in my life I have been called an Oreo. Whether
it was by my friends or strangers at school, it is a word that I have heard time and time again
throughout my childhood and teenage years. In response to this term, I have always laughed and
playfully denied it, but inwardly cringed at the statement. The slang term Oreo black on the
outside, white on the inside (in terms of race) is mainly used to describe African American men
and women who do not behave in a way that is commonly thought of as black , instead behaving in
a way that is befitting a white person . That is not acting ghetto or uneducated . These words call
into question the perception of the speaker on the role that race has

Essay about Elites And The Masses
Elites and the Masses
There are many theories pertaining to the nature of power in society. In modern society, it is
important to identify where and when power is exercised, who benefits and who suffers from it
being exerted upon them. In this tradition, it is useful to examine the managerialist perspective.
Managerialism focuses on organizations as the basis, or unit of analysis of society, to which all
other aspects of society are subordinate to. These organizations use their resources in an attempt to
dominate each other and society. Managerialism tells us that power is concentrated among a group
of elites who control organizations, and use them as an instrument to gain more power and expand

The increased use of assembly lines in production is a prime example of depersonalization within
bureaucracy.
Weber identifies several different types of authority. One is traditional legitimacy, which states that
authority is bestowed upon someone based on traditional roles of authority, such as the pope or
even the parents of children. Charismatic authority tells us that some are granted legitimacy to have
authority over our lives by sheer charisma, such as Martin Luther King jr., Adolf Hitler and Gandhi.
The third type of authority is rational legal authority. This states that we grant legitimacy based
upon the office they serve. An example of this is the inherent authority of Jesse Ventura over the
people of Minnesota, simply because he holds the title of governor.
In the managerial perspective, the economy is seen as a process of three different factors:
industrialization, elite competition and bureaucratic rationalization.
Industrialization is characterized by the increased role of technology as an integral factor of
production. As industrialization and science further blend together, the economy becomes
increasingly large and complex, making bureaucratic organizations more and more of a necessary
function to the advancement of

Surrogate Motherhood Essay
Surrogate motherhood refers to that condition of a fertile (footnote) woman who has been
contracted to become impregnated via reproductive technologies such as donor or artificial
insemination. It is that condition wherein that fertile woman also has agreed to transfer her rights
on the child to the biological parents after giving birth. This is bounded by a contract that was
signed by the contracting parents and the surrogate. The reasons for this generally fall into two
categories. Either the contracting couple is unable to produce a child or they would prefer to
eliminate or enhance certain genetic traits. My argument would apply to either case. For the

the purposes of this discussion, each of these engages in the commidification of the reproductive

Mother s egg, father s sperm this type of surrogacy is usually employed in cases wherein the

To What Extent Is Csr Beneficial to a Company s Performance
To What Extent is CSR Beneficial to a Company s Performance?
Corporate social responsibility (CSR), which is a popular debate topic over decades, has divided
into five major dimensions over time. They are known as the stakeholder dimension, the social
dimension, the economic dimension, the voluntariness dimension and the environmental dimension
in research (Dahlsrud, 2008). The relationship between CSR and company s performance, which is
classified as the stakeholder dimension, aroused a controversial discussion among different
research studies. Some research reported positive relationship in CSR and company s performance
(Mirvis, 2012), some research found negative results (Karnani, 2010), while there are also other

Despite the influence of omitted factors, CSR neither benefit nor harm company s performance.
For those cases reported positive relationship above, they are very likely to be the result of a good
marketing strategy and aggressive advertisement (for restaurant and airlines), successful
management (for employees willingness to work in a responsible company), an efficient R
amp;D and politic strategies (for DuPont s case), etc. However, research reaching a negative
relationship can also be blamed to other stuffs related to CSR, rather than CSR itself. For
example, the agency problem appears when there s a conflict between company s goal and the
agent s personal goal, not only in CSR; and the profit issue is just a matter of choice. Thus, while
measuring CSR s influence on company s performance, we should first identify or select the
dimensions of corporate social responsibility (Ruf, 1998, as cited in Foote, Gaffney, amp;Evans,
2010). Nothing can we truly measure before a clear identification. After a clear identification, we
will be able to figure out whether it is the impact brought by CSR, and therefore eliminate the
interference from R amp;D, advertising, or political efforts, etc.

Federalist 10 Analysis
The question that is dispatched in the Federalist paper # 10 that James Madison has written is
how to protect the country against factions? A faction is a group of people with the same interest
opposed to the rights of the citizens or the interests opposed to the rights of the citizens or the
interest of the whole community. The paper is also written on how a strong republic would protect
better against the dangers then a smaller one for example, an individual state. Madison explains
that in a large republic there will be many different factions, held together by regional or local
interests that none of them will dominate national politics, it is important to devise a plan of

Madison believes it is a process or aftereffect of people being born with very different physical
and mental capacities. In order try to remove the causes of faction are only two options: destroy
free will by taking away the opinion of every citizen, passions and interests. The first won t work
because we have fought long and hard for freedom. The second is not fascinating nor even
possible. By factions, whether amounting to a largest of a minority of the whole faction. Who
are untied and actuated by some common impulse of passion or of interest, opposing of the
rights of other citizens, or to the durable and collective interests of the community? There are a
few things bad about faction one of those things are they will try to get they want even if it hurts
others. Madison wants to create a republic. Two ways to remove factions are to destroy liberty so
we can t take it away again that s why destroying liberty won t work. The system does not work
today because people can have better communication around so they can have the same interests
around the country. The point of the Federalist papers was to promote the ratification of the
constitution. Madison believed that factions operate in their own interest and ignore the rights of
other citizens and interest of the community. Madison believes that as long as man is allowed to

Brain Candy Essay
Have you ever heard that too much television can ruin a child s mind? Malcolm Gladwell
proposes in his article, Brain Candy, that playing video games or watching television is just as
important as reading a book. Gladwell is using rhetorical appeals to prove that in fact, video games
are not dumbing down society. Pop cultureis helping to improve test scores and knowledge. In
Brain Candy, Malcolm Gladwell does affectively use rhetorical appeals to convince his audience
that pop culture is making our society smarter. First, Gladwell effectively appeals to logos.
Gladwell appeals to logic through statistics. In the opening paragraph, Gladwell cites statistics by

Conclusively, Gladwell uses pathos. Gladwell appeals to emotions through vivid images. Gladwell
states that Unlike the longstanding tradition of gameplaying which engages the child in a vivid,
three dimensional world filled with moving images and musical soundscapes, navigated and
controlled with complex muscular movements books are simply a barren string of words on the
page. Gladwell is giving an extremely vivid image of someone playing a game, rather than simply
reading words written on a page. This proves emotion by being able to see an idea of
gameplaying and not just seeing words written on a blank page. Gladwell also appeals to
emotions through properties of a book. Gladwell states that But perhaps the most dangerous
property of these books is the fact that they follow a fixed linear path ( Brain Candy ). This is an
example of emotions because books are isolating and not open minded because they follow a set
of distinct rules. In conclusion, pop culture is not dumbing down society; it is, in fact, making
society smarter. Malcolm Gladwell uses three different rhetorical appeals to prove this point.
Gladwell proposes that playing a game can help a child s mind more so than it would reading a
book. Pop culture is given in many different forms, and can help a child use different parts of the
brain.

Introduction
Pharmaceutical industry is a science organisation that research and develop medicines to help
improve people s life. There are four departments in pharmaceutical. They are researching,
development, production and marketing. In this report we will be going to investigate only 2 of
these departments. They are research and manufacturing. This investigation will include the risk on
health and safety in both departments and how they are similar or different to each other. We will
be talking about how to prevent or decrease the risk of it happening and the cause of the hazard.
Also we will be talking about how it affects the employer and the employees.

Different hazards in manufacturing.
Dusts explosions can happen when stone or iron pieces get in to a disintegrator or grinding mill,
this could create a spark which ignite any flammable substance. This also requires large amount
of oxygen available for the flame to ignite. To manage dust and avoid any explosion, dust must
not compile and it should be removed as soon as it formed. Also by using a process called inerting

Children that are placed in foster care are neglected, abused, or removed due to extreme

The only exception allowed should be if a twenty one year old wants to take in a biological

difference. It s very common for younger children to be attracted or have little crushes on
younger adults close to their age, but when younger adults are attracted to underage children, that
s when the problem occur. There are younger adults and older adults who want to become foster

A single twenty four year old man was indicted for raping one of his foster sons in 1995

foster parent solely to get his hands on younger children. Not all younger foster parents are not like
this man, but the age difference needs to be raised to at least twenty seven to decrease the chance of
something like that from happening again. Increasing the age difference also ensures that the

`` The Scarlett Letter `` By Roger Chillingworth
Because of the irrational and nonsensical actions of virtually every character in The Scarlett
Letter, I find it extremely difficult to substantiate a claim that I empathize with any of them on
any genuine level. However, for the sake of completing this summer s reading assignment, I will
resort to writing about the only person who displays typical human behavior in a way to which I
can somewhat relate Roger Chillingworth. Though cynical, egocentric, and (dare I say) satanic,
Roger Chillingworth goes about his business in such a realistic way (as compared to the rest of
the fictional characters) that he instills in the reader a sense of understanding of his motives.
Unlike the other characters, I am fully able to empathize with the frustration and distressful
emotions that overcame Chillingworth. It is logical to assume that hatred and vengefulness would
blossom in a man if, upon arrival to a new world, he learned that his wife was in the midst of an
affair. In Chillingworth, we see one of Nathaniel Hawthorne s characters react for the first time, and
perhaps the only time, in an authentic fashion. At first, Chillingworth attempts to distance himself
from the idea of revenge when he claims that he shall [not] interfere with Heaven s own method of
retribution (69). This claim, however, does not last long, and soon he succumbs to his sinful desire
to burrow into the clergyman s intimacy, and plot against his soul (112). The pain of sitting

The Role Of Research On The Field Of Education
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to identify the role that research has in the field of education and to
clarify how research is used by education stakeholders. This paper refers to ten articles in order to
provide rationale for the thesis that education is influenced at all hierarchical levels by research,
although it is used differently by each level based on the desired outcome and the requirements of
each level s particular stakeholders. Two categories of research are explored in this paper:
traditional and action research. Traditional research is generally assumed to be conducted by a
researcher who controls all aspects of the research study, from the formation of a research question
to the presentation of findings. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If all parties work in symbiosis with the shared goal of creating and supporting a system that grants
students the highest quality of education possible, then certainly research plays an integral part in
that.
The Role of Research in Education Before exploring the role of research in education, however,
the nature and objective of education must be defined. Education is not so much an institution
working in a vacuum as it is a complex machine made up of a huge number of parts, all of which
work in concert toward achieving a common purpose: graduating students into the world who are
equipped to participate as productive members of society. Within the framework of education
there exists a multitude of stakeholders who are influenced by their own agendas and expectations
and who have their own part to play in the success or failure of the education system. Given all
that to be true, research is a diagnostic tool that can be used by stakeholders to identify and remedy
shortcomings within the educational system and also to seek out ways of improving and refining
existing processes.

Zimbardo s Theory Of Social Psychology
Throughout history there have been hundreds upon hundreds of influential figures, although not
all of them have devoted their career to understanding the human mind. Of the few who have
devoted their time to this hugely important task, Dr. Philip G. Zimbardo s theories and
experiments have made him stand out, and differentiate himself from the rest in his profession.
Zimbardo s area of expertise in the field of psychology is social psychology, the branch that deals
with social interactions, including their origins and their effects on the individual. Zimbardo may
be most well known for his Stanford Prison experiment, an experiment that seems to address the
definition of social psychology perfectly. In this experiment Zimbardo had clinically healthy and
sane people volunteer for the position of a prison guard or a prisoner and see how they behaved,
for fifteen dollars a day. The prison was actually the basement of the Stanford psychology building,
where the experiment would take place for a planned 14 days. As said before, the prisoners and
guards were all tested as mentally healthy, and for the sake of the experiment were arrested, and
processed on a random morning, August 14th 1971. (Zimbardo, 2007, p. 23). The results of this
experiment are outstanding, shocking, and somewhat disturbing, making this one of, if not, the
most unethical psychological experiments. Although the experiment is considered wildly immoral,
Zimbardo is one of the most influential psychologists

He straightened up. Oh my God. He read on. It said alcohol was the main date rape drug but that
there were plenty of others. He scrolled down a bit and there it was Rohypnol, the drug Brig
said was found in Rashida s system. His eyes raced across the screen. In one 2002 survey of 53
women who used Rohypnol recreationally, 10% said they were physically or sexually assaulted
while under its influence. If enough of the drug is taken, a person may experience a state of
automatism or dissociation. After the drug wears off, users may find themselves unable to
remember what happened under its influence... He looked up at the ceiling and sighed. He was
trembling. What if he hadn t blacked out? What if he d been given this Rohypnol instead? That
would explain why he d gone unconscious so quickly with so little alcohol in his system. And all
that pointed in only one direction.
Orson.
Orson granted, only allegedly used a drug like Rohypnol on someone before. Having been in
medical school he almost certainly had an awareness of and access to it. And what, just what if
he d put the drug in Denny s beer that night at The Wild Bull? It would ve been easy enough
when Denny went to take a leak, Orson could ve plunked it into his beer. Oh my God, Denny said
again and he stared off into the distance.

Pet Clinic Research Paper
Knowing Where to Go in Your Pet s Time of Need
Have you prepared for what to do when your pet becomes ill? Who will you turn to in their time of
need? While these are thoughts that no one likes to think about, they are important considerations.
Being adequately prepared in your pet s time of need will save you time, money, and stress.
Knowing where to take your pet when they become ill will prevent unnecessary confusion and your
beloved pet will thank you!
Brief Examinations and Less Urgent Concerns
Veterinary clinics are most appropriate for minimal preventative care and less urgent concerns.
They are limited in the range of services they can provide and they are best used for minor
procedures and regular check up examinations.
Given that they have smaller teams and less access to laboratory equipment, clinics may take
longer to provide answers about your pet s condition. While they have the ability to make
diagnoses, they typically send their lab work to external sites. Therefore, clinics are not
recommended for emergencies, more thorough examinations, and intensive surgical procedures.
Overall, clinics are most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the services provided include dental procedures, laser therapy, digital x rays and radiology,
laboratory and diagnostic testing, full pharmacies, boarding, and more intensive specialty surgeries
such as orthopedics.
Convenience is the main word that should come to mind when you think of pet hospitals. Given
that they have a larger staff, in house diagnostic equipment, and immediate access to knowledgeable
surgeons, they can offer everything you need in one place.
Another helpful service provided is an on site pharmacy with immediate access to the medications
that may be required for your pet s treatment. This relieves a lot of stress and provides piece of
mind.

Audit and Business Risks at Toy Central Corporation Christine E. Earley and Fred Phillips
INTRODUCTION [pic]s a senior in a professional services firm, you have been assigned to plan the
financial statement audit of a private company named Toy Central Corporation (TCC). In addition,
the partner on the engagement has asked you to identify business risks that could adversely affect
TCC s sustained profitability, so that they can be brought to the attention of the company s board of
directors. These tasks will require you to draw on your knowledge of supply chain management,
marketing, internal controls, audit assertions, and financial accounting.... Show more content on

As a private company, TCC is not directly affected by the Sarbanes Oxley Act (SOX). However,
the partner in charge of the engagement has advised you that, ever since the financial scandals at
the turn of the century, TCC has become interested in strengthening its corporate governance.
Two years ago, following the release of the AICPA s Audit Committees Toolkit for public and
private corporations, TCC has asked your firm to consider not only financial reporting issues, but
also significant business risks that could affect the sustainability of TCC s success in the toy
industry. Although TCC s board of directors believes it is aware of strategic issues facing the
company, it has been considering spinning off its digital toy division into a separate company and,
subsequently, merging it with an upstart software company. Before embarking on a change in
organizational structure, the board wants a second set of eyes to ensure it has considered all
significant business risks that currently exist and could adversely affect TCC in the foreseeable
future. TCC s audit committee is meeting in two weeks and would like the partner to explain
significant business risks identified during KDOK s interim audit tests and the year end audit
planning. The partner would like you to prepare an audit planning memorandum that

Fosh Sponsor Experience
As of this moment, I have never actually done a Science Games, but I do have a wealth of large
scale event planning knowledge! I was an integral member of the Science Frosh Sponsorship
team, especially when it concerned acquiring the funds and equipment for the most successful
frosh of 2016. While I do not have any new ideas pertaining to Science Games, I have one idea
that may make the Hype Night more successful. When it comes to Power Hour, everyone enjoys
being covered in beer, but no one enjoys the clean up afterwards especially the staff of Cafe
Campus. Even less so if you must wade through a conglomerate concoction of beer, mixed drinks
(for celiac inclusivity, of course), wheels, sweat and pure degeneracy. A way to combat this would

Family means nobody gets left behind (or forgotten). I came to McGill University from a high
school environment that was not particularly inclusive, but frosh taught me how to further involve
my peers to have an even better experience. Whenever one is in a group setting, it is important to
make sure everyone feels welcomed without damaging the social structure of the current group
context. In other words, it isn t right to let one person in attendance sit out and feel unwelcome, but
it is also not very fair to divert attention away from other people just to attend to the newcomer.
Inclusivity means effective integration, not special attention. I believe the best way to positively
incorporate these values would be to make the concept of inclusivity more available to the
participants. Chants and subjection to drinking are only fun if the person wants to participate in
that particular event. Inclusivity during science events is easy (especially in regards to alcohol) if
everyone recognizes the opt in environment, i.e. alcohol is an opt in activity, not one you have to

Similarities Between Adam Smith And Adam Smith
As philosophy emancipated from Aristotle and Thomism, man had been placed at the centre of the
universe. The Renaissance witnessed the intellectual emancipation as Scientific Revolution. The
Scientific Revolution began with Copernicus in the first half of the sixteenth century. Antoyne de
Montchretien announced the programme in the title of his main work, Traite de l oeconomie
politique (1615), here he described that economics, the science of acquisition , was an important
part of politics before classical school of thoughts.
Adam Smith
Adam Smith is a Scottish economist. He is a first economist to deal with problems of economics in
a planned and systematic calculations. He is called the Father of the Political Economy . His work

With these interconnectedness resources would tend to move between employments where there
were diffrences in the available rates of return, thus showing the roots of interdependence of the
economic phenomena. On this parametre smith spoke of a natural balance of industry and of the
natural connection of all trades in the stock . Its here when he infered Laissez faire and the
harmony of interests.
Theories developed and advocated by Smith
Further Smith went on to explain the value of labours as a source in the wealth of a nation.
According to Adam Smith, by adopting the division of labour theory wealth of nation can be
increased. Size of market can limit the division of labour. Volume of international trade determines
the size of market. Smith argues against the protectionist approach of mercantilist. Hence, blames
this for the shrinkage of international

After the Zimbabwe Africans People Union (ZAPU) and the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU) were banned by the Rhodesian state, they fled to Zambia and Mozambique. There, they formed the insurgent organizations Zimbabwe People s Revolutionary Army (ZIPRA) and the Zimbabwe African National Liberation Army (ZANLA), respectively. While the two parent political parties differed in their ideological views regarding the inclusion of Maoist philosophy in their Marxism, their militarymovements did not differ significantly in their structure or behavior. The recruitment patterns of both organizations followed similar patterns, with the movements engaging in forced conscriptionin the early years before eventually becoming volunteer organizations once they were firmly established. The individuals who joined consisted of both youth from the African intelligentsia and uneducated individuals from the tribal frontier areas. Both guerrilla organizations were led by cadre who received their orders from a military council within the parent political organization, reflecting a clear subordination of military forces to the civilian leadership. In the earliest days of the conflict, the guerrilla fighters were recruited from the political movements within Rhodesia. The volunteers were given cover stories that they were leaving the country to attend academic courses, when in reality, they were being sent abroad to receive military training. The Sliced-Crosswise Only Tuesday World Summary A.Eternium Cylinders, or stoners as the characters in The Sliced Crosswise Only on Tuesday World call them, are essentially pods in which people will hibernate until their next day arrives. Eternium cylinders could be scientifically based on cryonics, in which a person s body will be frozen and their bodily functions will pause until they are taken out of the chamber. This is significant in The Sliced Crosswise Only on Tuesday World by Philip Jose Farmer because the world has become overpopulated and the only way to reduce the stress is to have groups of people live only one day a week. This small model has the same capabilities as its full size counterpart, as was demonstrated in the novel as the model launched into the future (or the past). This model is scientifically based in the theory of time travel and how our perception of time could be altered. When change is thought upon, it is to be thought of new life and new experiences. The Great Depression is the kind of change that replaces a part of American living with Somepin s happening. Even though the land has its brutality, it grows to be the scenery for humans to be able to recognize and consider their troubles about work and life in general. With these concerns, there are differences between the people who are accustomed to the landscape and admire it, and those who do not agree with it. • 10. Knowing God by J.I Packer In this modern day, many people claim to be Christians, but I believe that there is a distinction between Christians and disciples . Throughout my day, I ve realised that almost any person can call themselves Christians, but to be called a disciple is completely different. To call yourself a Christian you carry the gift of salvation with authenticity. A disciple also carries the responsibility of living in holiness. As scripture shows us in Hebrews 12:14 follow peace with all man, and holiness, without which no man shall see The Lord. Therefore there are various distinctions between those who claim they are Christian and those who are truly disciples. One value that the disciple must hold dear to his life is that he/she should know God, and J.I. packer shows us how to know The Lord by introducing us to the study of God. Packer begins his proposal to know God by explaining the study of God and his divinity, which is theology. He explains that the theory of theology should begin to humble one s mind, which expanding it. Packer states that he who often thinks of God, will have a larger than the others. This also implies the distinction on christians and disciples. Packer then introduces five basic, interesting principles for genuinely knowing God. The first principle is the bible. The bible is Gods word here on earth, many many times, all the answer we need for any type of afflicting dilemma can be found in Gods word. I totally agree with J.I. Packer when he ... These awarenesses caused us to adapt and develop new techniques in order to survive. One of the many things that had been changed in our society were the architectures especially in the more developed countries such as England ,America and China. As such, the concept of sustainability had entered into the consciousness of architects and became an essential concern in the discourse of architecture (1). The children are not responsible for the attacks that are executed by Hamas or other militants, but they have to deal with the repercussions of it. Innocent children who have hopes and dreams of a better future were watching their world fall apart during this war. It leads them to think that the future is bleak, grim and unsafe. The image of the tanks chasing after the women and children points out the grim reality of what children faced during Operation Cast Lead. They saw the soldiers entering their homes and causing mass destruction, leading to them feeling unsafe. These children have fear, deeply embedded into their souls, and are afraid of living in their own homes. I don t think that that is very fair, because a child is supposed to feel loved and safe in their land. They shouldn t feel petrified or have to suffer, but this is not the case for Palestinian children. Palestinian children are trapped in an endless cycle of war, trauma, suffering, and healing. The never ending cycle is detrimental to their mental health and morale as a people, but they still hold onto a twinge of hope. So while Palestinian children can be seen as an oppressed group, at the same time they can also be considered to be one of the strongest groups of peoples to exist. Ultra High Performance Concrete ( Uhpc ) 1.Introduction Ultra high performance concrete (UHPC) represents a major progress step over normal strength concrete (NSC) and high strength concrete (HSC), through the achievement of very high strength and very low permeability. Basically, the UHPC is a concrete with compressive strength ranging 120 to 400 MPa, this ultra high strength is achieved through different techniques including the use of improved materials, ultra fine pozzolans (e.g. silica fume), low water cement ratio, improved quality and higher dosage of superplasticizer, use of fibers (metallic or synthetic) to increase the energy absorption capacity and decrease brittleness, high cementitious materials content, longer mixing time and heat treatment [1]. UHPC tensile strength varies from 10 to 30 MPa; and the modulus of elasticity is in the range of 60 100 GPa [2]. Using UHPC in the construction of new bridges and the renewal of existing highway bridge network can minimize maintenance requirement in the construction of new long life bridges resulting in low life cycle costs [3]. Despite its exceptional material properties, UHPC s initial construction cost is significantly higher than that of normal strength concrete (NSC), which limited its use in North America and elsewhere. The slang term Oreo black on the outside, white on the inside (in terms of race) is mainly used to describe African American men and women who do not behave in a way that is commonly thought of as black , instead behaving in a way that is befitting a white person . In modern society, it is important to identify where and when power is exercised, who benefits and who suffers from it being exerted upon them. In this tradition, it is useful to examine the managerialist perspective. Managerialism focuses on organizations as the basis, or unit of analysis of society, to which all other aspects of society are subordinate to. These organizations use their resources in an attempt to dominate each other and society. Weber identifies several different types of authority. One is traditional legitimacy, which states that authority is bestowed upon someone based on traditional roles of authority, such as the pope or even the parents of children. Charismatic authority tells us that some are granted legitimacy to have authority over our lives by sheer charisma, such as Martin Luther King jr., Adolf Hitler and Gandhi. The third type of authority is rational legal authority. This states that we grant legitimacy based upon the office they serve. An example of this is the inherent authority of Jesse Ventura over the people of Minnesota, simply because he holds the title of governor. In the managerial perspective, the economy is seen as a process of three different factors: industrialization, elite competition and bureaucratic rationalization. Industrialization is characterized by the increased role of technology as an integral factor of production. As industrialization and science further blend together, the economy becomes increasingly large and complex, making bureaucratic organizations more and more of a necessary function to the advancement of ... It is that condition wherein that fertile woman also has agreed to transfer her rights on the child to the biological parents after giving birth. This is bounded by a contract that was signed by the contracting parents and the surrogate. The reasons for this generally fall into two categories. Corporate social responsibility (CSR), which is a popular debate topic over decades, has divided into five major dimensions over time. They are known as the stakeholder dimension, the social dimension, the economic dimension, the voluntariness dimension and the environmental dimension in research (Dahlsrud, 2008). The relationship between CSR and company s performance, which is classified as the stakeholder dimension, aroused a controversial discussion among different research studies. For example, the agency problem appears when there s a conflict between company s goal and the agent s personal goal, not only in CSR; and the profit issue is just a matter of choice. Thus, while measuring CSR s influence on company s performance, we should first identify or select the dimensions of corporate social responsibility (Ruf, 1998, as cited in Foote, Gaffney, amp;Evans, 2010). Gladwell is giving an extremely vivid image of someone playing a game, rather than simply reading words written on a page. Unlike the other characters, I am fully able to empathize with the frustration and distressful emotions that overcame Chillingworth. It is logical to assume that hatred and vengefulness would blossom in a man if, upon arrival to a new world, he learned that his wife was in the midst of an affair. In Chillingworth, we see one of Nathaniel Hawthorne s characters react for the first time, and perhaps the only time, in an authentic fashion. Education is not so much an institution working in a vacuum as it is a complex machine made up of a huge number of parts, all of which work in concert toward achieving a common purpose: graduating students into the world who are equipped to participate as productive members of society. Within the framework of education there exists a multitude of stakeholders who are influenced by their own agendas and expectations and who have their own part to play in the success or failure of the education system. Before embarking on a change in organizational structure, the board wants a second set of eyes to ensure it has considered all significant business risks that currently exist and could adversely affect TCC in the foreseeable future. TCC s audit committee is meeting in two weeks and would like the partner to explain significant business risks identified during KDOK s interim audit tests and the year end audit planning. I was an integral member of the Science Frosh Sponsorship team, especially when it concerned acquiring the funds and equipment for the most successful frosh of 2016. While I do not have any new ideas pertaining to Science Games, I have one idea that may make the Hype Night more successful. When it comes to Power Hour, everyone enjoys being covered in beer, but no one enjoys the clean up afterwards especially the staff of Cafe Campus. Even less so if you must wade through a conglomerate concoction of beer, mixed drinks (for celiac inclusivity, of course), wheels, sweat and pure degeneracy. A way to combat this would ... I came to McGill University from a high school environment that was not particularly inclusive, but frosh taught me how to further involve my peers to have an even better experience. Whenever one is in a group setting, it is important to make sure everyone feels welcomed without damaging the social structure of the current group context. In other words, it isn t right to let one person in attendance sit out and feel unwelcome, but it is also not very fair to divert attention away from other people just to attend to the newcomer. Inclusivity means effective integration, not special attention. I believe the best way to positively incorporate these values would be to make the concept of inclusivity more available to the participants. Chants and subjection to drinking are only fun if the person wants to participate in that particular event. Inclusivity during science events is easy (especially in regards to alcohol) if everyone recognizes the opt in environment, i.e. alcohol is an opt in activity, not one you have to opt out ...
