Teacher asks pupils to sing the song “I am Pat”.

Teacher highlights and shows the word cards “Pat” and “tap”.
Teacher teaches pupils the phonemes /p/,/s/,/a/ and /t/ using the letters cards.
Teacher introduces new words that related to the sounds.
3)Activities:
Teacher tells pupils that they will play “Hopping Bunny”.
First, teacher draws four boxes that contain the phonemes on the floor.
Teacher tells them the instructions of the game.
Instructions of the games:
The pupils have to jump on the first box and pronounce the sound and give an example of a word that
starts with that sound correctly. If they can’t pronounce the sound or give the word correctly, they can’t
proceed to the next box.
a)Teacher gives numbers to the pupils.
b)Teacher calls a few pupils based on the numbers they get.
c)Then, the pupils who are called by the teacher have to play the game.
d)Pupils who answer correctly will be given rewards.
4)Enrichment: Mind Games
Teacher arranges word cards on the table. Then, teacher pastes the letters cards on the blackboard.
Teacher calls up a few numbers and those who get the numbers have to come out and do the task. One
pupil has to turn over the cards and match the cards with the letters cards on the blackboard. If the pupil
can’t do the task, the next pupil will continue.
5)Summing Up
Teacher and pupils sum up today’s lesson.

UNIT 1 SOUNDS AROUND US DAY 1 Focus : Listening & Speaking Theme : World Of Knowledge Topic : Sounds Around Us Content Std. : 1.1 Pupils will be able to pronounce words and speak confidently with the correct stress ,rhythm and intonation. Learning Std. :1.1.1 Able to listen and respond to stimulus given with guidance : voice sound Objectives : Able to recognise sounds of animals. Able to make sounds of animals. Able to spell the names of animals. STRATEGIES 1.Teacher plays the recorded sounds of farm animals & pupils guess the animals. 2. Pupils listen to the sounds carefully. 3. Teacher asks pupils to guess the sounds. 4. Pupils make the sounds according to the pictures shown. 5. Teacher asks “WH” questions about the animals. eg: 1. What animal is this? 2. How the animals make sounds? 3. Where can you find these animals?
  • 2. UNIT 1 DAY 2 Focus : Reading Theme : World Of Knowledge Topic : Sound Around Us Content Std. : 2.1 able to apply knowledge of sounds of letters recognise words in linear and non-linear texts. Learning Std. : 2.1.1 Able to identify and distinguish the shapes of the letters in the alphabet. 2.1.2 Able to recognise and articulate initial, medial and the final sounds in single syllabus words within given context. Objectives : Able to identify the shapes of the letters and read aou the phonemes of letter correctly Added Value : ICT Teaching Aids : Letter cards for n,v,r,w,sh,h,o,ch STRATEGIES 1. Teacher plays the sound clips (http://www.freereading.net/index.php?title=Most_common_letter_sounds_%28audio_clips%29# w ) and pupils listen. 2. Teacher shows the letter cards. 3. Pupils read the phonemes after teacher. 4. Pupils do the actions for the phonemes. 5. Teacher carries out a competition and the pupils are divided into 4 groups. Teacher shows the letter cards,pupils read out the phonemes and do the actions.
  • 3. UNIT 1 DAY 3 Focus : Writing Theme : World Of Knowledge Topic : Sounds Around Us Content Std. : 3.1Pupils able to form letters and words in neat legible print. Learning Std. : 3.1.2 Able to copy and write in neat legible print : a) words Objectives : Pupils able to copy and write words Spell words Teaching Aids : Flash cards , Manila Card 1.Bingo – to recall the words and sounds. 2. Pupils complete the words by filling in the missing letters and rewrite the words.

UNIT 1 DAY 4 Focus : Language Arts Theme : World of Knowledge Topic : Sounds Around Us Content Std : 4.1 Able to enjoy and appreciate rhymes, poems and songs. 4.3 Able to plan, organize and produce creative works for enjoyment Learning Std: 4.1.1 Able to enjoy nursery rhymes and action songs through non-verbal response. 4.3.1 Able to produce simple creative works with guidance based on: (a) nursery rhymes (b) action songs Objective : Able to sing the song using the finger puppets Teaching aids : Laptop, LCD,CD, Manila Card, Scissors, Coloured-pencils, stapler. Added Values : Creativity, ICT. Activities : 1) Revise/Sing the song “All Day Long”. 2) Pupils are divided into 4 groups. 3) Pupils are guided to make finger puppets (snake, monkey, bee and bird) in their group. 4) Pupils sing the song together using the finger puppets made.

UNIT 2 ALL ABOUT ME DAY 1 Theme: World of Self, Family and Friends Topic: All About Me Content Standard: 2.1 By the end of the 6-year primary schooling, pupils will be able to apply knowledge of sounds of letters to recognise words in linear and non-linear texts. Learning Standard(s): 2.1.1 Able to identify and distinguish the shapes of the letters in the alphabet. 2.1.2 Able to recognise and articulate initial, medial and the final sounds in single syllable words within given context. (/p/,/a/,/t/,/s/) Objectives: At the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to: recognise the phonemes /p/,/a/,/t/,/s/ pronounce the sounds of phonemes /p/,/a/,/t/,/s/ pronounce the words given correctly Activities: 1)Set Induction Teacher asks pupils to sing the song “I am Pat”. 2)Teaching and Learning Teacher highlights and shows the word cards “Pat” and “tap”. Teacher teaches pupils the phonemes /p/,/s/,/a/ and /t/ using the letters cards. Teacher introduces new words that related to the sounds. 3)Activities: Teacher tells pupils that they will play “Hopping Bunny”. First, teacher draws four boxes that contain the phonemes on the floor. Teacher tells them the instructions of the game. Instructions of the games: The pupils have to jump on the first box and pronounce the sound and give an example of a word that starts with that sound correctly. If they can’t pronounce the sound or give the word correctly, they can’t proceed to the next box. a)Teacher gives numbers to the pupils. b)Teacher calls a few pupils based on the numbers they get. c)Then, the pupils who are called by the teacher have to play the game. d)Pupils who answer correctly will be given rewards. 4)Enrichment: Mind Games Teacher arranges word cards on the table. Then, teacher pastes the letters cards on the blackboard. Teacher calls up a few numbers and those who get the numbers have to come out and do the task. One pupil has to turn over the cards and match the cards with the letters cards on the blackboard. If the pupil can’t do the task, the next pupil will continue. 5)Summing Up

Pupils are given modelling clay and they have to form the 4 small letters learnt before using the modelling clay individually. 3. Pupils pronounce the letters. 4. Pupils copy and write the letters neatly in their Activity Book. Teaching Aids: modelling clay, Activity Book, LCD, laptop Teaching and Learning: Mastery learning Added Value : Pupils form letters using a modelling clay (creativity) Pupils sing a song learned earlier in Day 1. 2. Day 2 Theme : World Of Knowledge Topic : Say it Nicely Focus : Reading Content Standard : 2.1 Pupils will be able to apply knowledge of sounds of letters to recognise words in linear and non-linear texts. 2.2 Pupils will be able to demonstrate understanding of a variety of linear and non-linear texts in the form of print and non-print materials using a range of strategies to construct meaning. Learning Standard : 2.1.3 Able to blend two to four phonemes into recognizable words and read them aloud. 2.2.4 Able to read a paragraph of 3-5 simple sentences. Objective : At the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to: recognise the phonemes /b/,/h/,/r/ pronounce the sounds of phonemes /b/,/h/,/r/ pronounce the words given correctly Activities : 1) Teacher shows the animation of red bug. 2) Pupils guess what animal on the screen. 3) Teacher teaches pupils the phonemes /b/,/h/and /r/using the letters cards. 4) Teacher introduces new words that related to the sounds. 5) Pupils read aloud the word shown. 6) Pupils read the story titled ‘Ben’s Red Bug’ aloud. 7) Pupils match word cards with pictures. 8) Pupils give other words with initial letters ‘b’, ‘h’ and ‘r’. Day 3 Theme : World Of Knowledge Topic : Say it Nicely Focus : Writing Content Standard : 3.1 Pupils will be able to form letters and words in neat legible print including cursive writing. 3.2 Pupils will be able to write using appropriate language, form and style for a range of purposes Learning Standard : 3.1.2 Able to copy and write in neat legible print: a) small (lowercase) letters b) capital (uppercase) letters f) simple sentences 3.2.3 Able to write 3-5 word sentences with guidance. Objective : By the end of the lesson pupils should be able to copy and write the 3 letters and 2 short sentences learnt correctly Activities : 1) Pupils say the phonemes /b/, /h/ and /r/ with actions. 2) Ask pupils to form letters using modeling clay. 3) Pupils trace and write letter on activity book page 69. 4) Teacher recalls previous lesson about ‘thank you’ and ‘I am sorry’. 5) Pupils write the correct answers in the space provided. 6) Pupils form word from letters given with guidance. 7) Pupils copy writing neatly, legible print. Activities : 1) Pupils play game of sound station. 2) Pupils are asked to create a mini booklet with A4 paper. 3) Pupils write words given and draw the pictures in the mini booklet. 4) Teacher select few pupils randomly to present their mini booklet to the class.
