Grade: 2nd
grade
Subject/Content Area: Language Arts
NCSCOS Goal:Follow agreed-upon rules for discussions (e.g., gaining the floor in respectful ways,
listening to others with care, speaking one at a time about the topics and texts under discussion).
NCSCOS Objective(s):Shows relationship of dog and human.Shows behavior of dog in shelters.
Lesson Objective: Read story out loud. Ask children questions of what is going to happen next. Then get
them to write their own short story of what should happen next in the story, what the dog needs.
Assessment Strategy:If the student gets all of the matching correct then they will receive a 100.
Materials:Printed copies of a story book paper, Pencils, Crayons, Book to be read.
Procedures:
1. Focus and Review: Hook student interest, link to previous knowledge. Ask “how many have a pet?
And where did you get them from?”.
2. Statement of Objective: Label the learning for the children. They will be learning how to better ask
and answer questions; also they will be learning what a new dog needs in a new home. They will be
learning some writing too.
3. Teacher Input: Read the children my story book. Ask them what they think Charlie should get his new
dog from the store.
4. Guided Practice: Student practice asking and answering questions. I will ask them what they believe a
new puppy should have, and why they should have it. If they don’t answer right away I will start them
off by suggesting something like “new puppies need water bowls right?”.
5. Independent Practice: Children write their own story that concludes the story I read aloud. Answering
in their own words what they think new pet owners should get their new pet. I will hand out a
worksheet that has s space to write their story on the bottom and a place on the top where they can
draw their own picture to go along with the story they wrote.
6. Closure: Summarize the information the student have just learned and check for student
understanding by asking questions. I’ll tell the students to read their stories to their classmates. If they
didn’t quite understand the activity I will explain what they’ve done wrong.
Evaluation:
1. Student Performance: this will be based on how well they comprehended the story and how their
own story came out. Also how well they are at asking and answering questions.Im hoping to see a story
that is relevant to what I was asking for. A story that suggests what a new pet owner should get their

new pet, such as water bowl, food, food bowl, bed, etc. if they don’t meet the requirements then I will
see if they can tell me verbally instead of writing , (some kids aren’t good at writing).
2. Teacher performance: My evaluation will be based on if I made the story easy enough to be
understood and if the lesson and activity I came up with turned out to be a success. By success I mean if
they all performed well in writing their stories and their all relevant to the topic.

NCSCOS Objective(s):Shows relationship of dog and human.Shows behavior of dog in shelters. Lesson Objective: Read story out loud. Ask children questions of what is going to happen next. Then get them to write their own short story of what should happen next in the story, what the dog needs. Assessment Strategy:If the student gets all of the matching correct then they will receive a 100. Materials:Printed copies of a story book paper, Pencils, Crayons, Book to be read. Procedures: 1. Focus and Review: Hook student interest, link to previous knowledge. Ask “how many have a pet? And where did you get them from?”. 2. Statement of Objective: Label the learning for the children. They will be learning how to better ask and answer questions; also they will be learning what a new dog needs in a new home. They will be learning some writing too. 3. Teacher Input: Read the children my story book. Ask them what they think Charlie should get his new dog from the store. 4. Guided Practice: Student practice asking and answering questions. I will ask them what they believe a new puppy should have, and why they should have it. If they don’t answer right away I will start them off by suggesting something like “new puppies need water bowls right?”. 5. Independent Practice: Children write their own story that concludes the story I read aloud. Answering in their own words what they think new pet owners should get their new pet. I will hand out a worksheet that has s space to write their story on the bottom and a place on the top where they can draw their own picture to go along with the story they wrote. 6. Closure: Summarize the information the student have just learned and check for student understanding by asking questions. I’ll tell the students to read their stories to their classmates. If they didn’t quite understand the activity I will explain what they’ve done wrong. Evaluation: 1. Student Performance: this will be based on how well they comprehended the story and how their own story came out. Also how well they are at asking and answering questions.Im hoping to see a story that is relevant to what I was asking for. A story that suggests what a new pet owner should get their

Alondra Ramirez new pet, such as water bowl, food, food bowl, bed, etc. if they don’t meet the requirements then I will see if they can tell me verbally instead of writing , (some kids aren’t good at writing). 2. Teacher performance: My evaluation will be based on if I made the story easy enough to be understood and if the lesson and activity I came up with turned out to be a success. By success I mean if they all performed well in writing their stories and their all relevant to the topic.
