Graduation Project Product Reflection
1. Explain how the product is an appropriate outgrowth or extension of the issue- based topic.
My junior year I wrote a paper on the treatment of animals in animal shelters. The following
year I chose to write a children’s book and make an activity and lesson plan to go along with
my book. My book was about a young boy who noticed his friend had gotten a really great dog
from the local animal shelter, so he goes home and asks him mom if they could get a dog too.
His mom is quick to say that she knows of a breeder, but the boy says he wants one from the
shelter instead. I did that in hopes to promote and encourage kids to adopt animals from a
shelter instead of getting one from a breeder, cause as I learned in my research paper there are
millions of homeless dogs.
2. Explain the steps required to develop and complete the final product.
The first thing I had to do in completing my product was to write and illustrate a children’s
book that went along with my research paper. After finishing my book, I then had to come up
with a lesson plan for the class I would be teaching. I had to include things such as objectives
and activities. Later I came up with a little matching game that would further add on to the end
of my book. I left off with the mother and son going to the pet shop, so the game is about ‘what
are some things they should get from the pet store and what are some things they should not
get or stay away from’. Finally I made a story worksheet. When given the worksheet the
children will think of another alternate ending to the story I read previously and then draw a
picture of their story.
3. Describe what evidence is available to show 15 or more hours completed.
To show my 15 completed hours I was given a mentor log and filled it out every day that I
worked on the graduation project. In the log I described what I did that day to be granted my
hours and also what I was planning on doing the next day.
4. Explain the learning stretch.
This senior project has many different learning stretches. One of them is becoming a teacher for
the duration of the project, for example making a lesson plan activity and worksheet was a little
harder than it looks. I had to make sure they would all go together and follow the book I’m
going to read. I also had to make sure it wasn’t too difficult for 2nd graders but not too easy
either. Another lesson is making the yola website. I’ve never really made a website before and it
is a lot of pressure knowing this is my portfolio for my senior project. Making sure this website
is perfect and professional, was a big learning stretch. Also I pretty much learned how to
become a wiz at making websites.

5. Demonstrate the application of knowledge, and explain the use of problem solving.
Problem solving came up a lot during the product development. Mostly though, while making
my e-portfolio I ran into the most problems. This year our portfolio for our product is online, so
we had to make everything digital. It seems easy enough but sometimes electronics do not like
to cooperate with you. It was most difficult to make sure everything was perfect and trying to
incorporate it all together to make it run smoothly. For example trying to but the children’s
book I made onto the website was a challenge. It wouldn’t just go on there so I had to make a
screencast of it and record myself reading it so we could put it on the e-portfolio. Also having to
rearrange everything in an acceptable manner, so it would look professional and presentable,
was hard.
6. Describe what documentation is available to provide evidence.
Well, my document of evidence is pretty much my e-portfolio I made online. It consists of
everything I have done for my project, my product, my junior paper, and a lot of writings. It’s
like my graduation project bible.
