Manufactured boards are made from waste wood rather than pure wood. They include plywood, medium density fibreboard, blockboard, and chipboard. Plywood is made by gluing an odd number of thin wood veneers together under pressure. Blockboard has strips of softwood glued between layers of veneers, like a sandwich. Chipboard is made by mixing wood chips with resin and pressing the mixture under heat and pressure. Medium density fibreboard is produced similarly but with wood fibres instead of chips. Manufactured boards are cheaper alternatives to pure wood but also have disadvantages like being weaker or more prone to damage.
