1. Lecture notes
Vampire Weekend- A-Punk
The video has been sped up so the singer will have had to learn how
to sing the song slowly. Also, the video is done in one take and if
someone missed what they were meant to do they would have to
restart. There is very little camera work with it being a fixed shot of
the whole scene, there is also very little editing other than speeding
up the video. The video is very bright and light-hearted fitting the
genre.
Danny Brown- Grown up

Hot Chip- I feel better dir. Peter Serafinowicz
The video starts off with a boy band look too the video and looks like
a live show even with there name in the background. The video is
surprising with lots of twists and without knowing the band you will
not expect the video to be as strangle as it is. There is a lot of editing
put into this video especially at the end. There is lots of actors in the
video suggesting the video is high budget. The video is meant to be
funny.
LCD Soundsystem- Oh Baby
The video opens with very confusing imagery of two people writing
equations then they move to a new house. Then it is slowly revealed
they have created a teleporter. Then people break into their house
and kill the wife leading the husband to walk into the teleporter and
not leaving it. There is a lot of impressive visuals and editing done in
this video with the teleporter having them play catch through it and
having a chicken walk through it. The video is very narratively driven
and is like a short story but without a line of dialog. This video is
clearly high budget with multiple actors and sets.
2. The Greeks- Is Tropical
The video showing kids playing which is initially amusing. But then
later is shocking with the violence from the cartoon. As the video
goes on the references and violence gets worse. The video is very
well edited and animated with the explosions and blood splatters.
The video takes a very simple idea and expands it, it looks like it is
the children’s imagination is playing out on the screen.
Bonobo- Kerala
The video repeats to the beat showing more and more of the visuals
which leaves the viewer with a very distorted view of the video and
is left to interpretation. The video is highly edited with the loops and
has to be timed to the beat to make it fit the music. The camera is
always focused on the actress and always follows her through all the
scenes.
Idles- Mercedes Marxist
The man banging his head is in time with the beat. The visuals are
not that complicated but very striking with no body taking much
notice with them just glancing at him which could be about mental
health and how people don’t help.
