2. In our group, we decided to analyse videos that we got ideas from in particular genres. Dwayne Trymft called '777 intro' is a gospel video it is described as a narrative-based video because only the male artist appears on screen with words that has a meaning. The words that dissolves onto the screen is where we got the idea from the video. The words show up on the screen every time a key word comes up on the verse The picture above is an example we chose because the artists deliberately chose to do this to make it more appealing towards the audience. the audience would get a sense of what he is saying on screen. The genre of the video is Gospel and gives a meaning through the words he says. The video also gave us an idea of what the opening scene of the camera will look like. The picture above shows a side profile of the male artist. The camera shot used is medium close up. The reason why the particular camera shot was used to emphasise on the opening scene to look different. Why did we choose a side profile for the artist in the opening of the song? It makes the audience aware that it is different and draws attention towards the audience.
3. However we decided to use the colour black likewise in the music video N.E.R.D- (the way she moves). We decided to concentrate more on how the male artists in RnB videos are shown on screen and whether it has an impact on the audience. The video shows that it goes straight to the artist. We chose the colour black because we wanted the camera to focus on the male character. The idea is different and is inspired from an RnB video. The side profile in the RnB video would be seen as interesting. The picture above shows that the faces are red. Our group got the idea that is is unusual for an RnB video to have this in a opening part of the video and the first couple of seconds draws attention towards the audience and would make them want to watch on. The colour of the male artist face appears to be red which may con notates danger
4. The obvious theme of our song is 'love' because of this we decided that the ideas we can use are from an RnB video, R Kelly Ft Usher called same girl. The stereo-type of a typical RnB video is have a girl as the main part of the song the the artist is singing about. In this particular video the lyrics explains that both artists in the video are in love with the 'same girl'. This may not have the same lyrics as our chosen song but the theme is obvious. The music video shows the audience that the focus is on the girl in most RnB videos. The camera does a close- up of the girl on the screen of her upper lip, showing her beauty spot as the lyrics says 'has she got a booty on the left side of her mouth?' The rhythm and the beat of the song cuts at the same time as what appears on screen. Likewise we shown on our storyboard that the beat is in time with the cuts. The lyrics each time matches what appears on screen. The camera does a medium long shot of the girls body as well as the tattoo on the girl's legs. The camera shows the girl in the middle of the screen with the two male artists on the aide of the screen. This creates meaning towards the audience, they would feel that what appears on the screen matches the lyrics. Likewise in our storyboard it shows the different parts of the girls face to slightly match the lyrics. In RnB videos showing the girl body parts of the girl emphasises the love for the girl as well as admiration. In an RnB video women appear to relate to a sexual reference, this often draws attention. .
5. To make the themes begin to emerge in the music video we thought motives were important to add in music videos. In RnB videos motives are unpopular and not easy to notice. Kate Nash ‘foundations’ is can not fall under one specific genre but she uses many motives in this particular video. Nash uses items i.e. Toothbrushes, socks, Feet to create a sense of how unusual her video is. This would particularly draw attention towards the audience. While watching Kate Nash video even though it does not fall under the same category as our music video we decided to get ideas from it. The video shows that it is shot in a house but it is very obvious what the song is about through the lyrics and the motives. What we also noticed was each time the camera cuts it goes in time with the beat this is what we decided to do in our storyboard when a motive comes up. The cutting rhythm is fast and upbeat and goes with what appears on screen.
6. ‘Solange-I decided’ is a music video which falls in the genre ‘Motown’ but with a twist in the video. We decided to try and get ideas from this particular video. The video shows that the artist and the back up singers are dressed in a jazz style to deliberately make it look appealing to the audience. The video gave a little twist by the change of era each time the chorus comes up. the change the era suggests changes that have been done, the lyrics goes along with the idea. we therefore decided to have a change in genre each time the chorus comes up.
