Keeping People Well with Effective Public Health Practice
The well being of communities is dependent on effective public health practice.
In this assignment I will consider the statement The well being of communities is dependent on
effective public health practice. I will do this by looking at wellbeing, defining public health
practice and by looking at evidence based practice, epidemiology, policies and goals generated and
their effective application. I will also suggest why public health practice is not always as effective
in practice as it is in policy.
Achievement of wellbeing is the nation s aim, so now how do we in practice with limited
resources, political divisions, diverse demographics and actual poverty rising year on year causing
350,000 families alone to access one group of food banks last year( Trussel Trust 2013) , even
begin to address this process. The momentum of disease, poverty, isolation moving towards
wellbeing, achievement and community is the aim of all public health, an aim to improve the
quality of lives lived out in a myriad of circumstances. With this momentum for quality and change
wellbeing has been recognised as a measure for quality of life individually and in community and
the Prime Minister in 2010 asked the Office of National Statistics (ONS) to measure the nations
wellbeing (Cameron, 2010) The ONS attempted to comprehensively assess wellbeing of adults,
youth and children including finance, social and human capital , asking questions where networks
with others were also seen as a measure of

Family And Medical Leave Act Case Study
Situation A:
With regards to the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA), Company X is in full
compliance. The FMLA clearly states that if an employee of a company that has been with a
company for more than 12 months, they are entitled to 12 weeks of unpaid, job protected leave
every 12 months for qualifying events. Qualifying events would be considered as, but not limited
to, child birth, serious medical injury or the placement of a child into adoption or foster care.
There is a secondary provision in place that would allow you to take 26 weeks of unpaid, job
protected leave for the care of a covered service member for serious injury or illness. In all instances
of the FMLA, your job is protected, there are no federal guidelines to dictate your employer is
responsible for covering lost wages during this period of leave. Your employer is only responsible
for retuning you to your previous or similar position at the same rate of pay that you were
receiving when you started your leave.

its concern that older workers were disadvantaged in retaining and regaining employment. ... Show

Is Loki Of The Most Dominant Characteristics Of An Entire...
One of the most dominant characteristics in any villain is a craving for destruction, whether it is
the annihilation of a specific hero or of an entire world. Occasionally, however, the heel possesses
a quality that contradicts this nefarious tendency. Rarely does a story include an evildoer whose
actions end up benefitting those around him. This doer of good and... doer of evil ( Far Away and
Long Ago 1) is Lokiof Norse mythology. While some of Loki s actions qualify as heinous, many of
those who read of his misgivings are too quick to criticize the undervalued deity. This harsh
judgment has spun into a popular culture that paints a misconstrued image of Loki in film.
Although interpreted by modern media as inherently evil, the Norse god Loki is simply a
misunderstood mischief maker who helps on his own accord, corrects his misdeeds, and ultimately
causes the dawn of modern man.
Before digging into his misdeeds, noting Loki s pure benevolence is essential. Atop a mountain,
the gods built the city Asgard, a great City... that the Giants could never overthrow (Colum 6). As
they built their great city, the gods were approached by a giant. Although the giant could not help
build the halls or palaces of Asgard, [he could] build great walls that [could] never be overthrown
(7), and so the gods took the giant s offer. Of course, however, this favor would not be performed
without reward. Odin, the Father of the Gods, asks the giant what payment he desires, believing

A Member Of The Zygophyllaceae
A member of the Zygophyllaceae (caltrop) family, the creosote bush, Larrea tridentata, belongs to a
flowering plant family of more than 250 members worldwide, many of which are native to desert
regions. Creosote bush is abundant in three of the four North American deserts, i.e. the Mojave, the
Sonoran, and the Chihuahuan Deserts. In the United States, L. tridentata occurs in the states of
Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, and Utah.
Most Agassiz s desert tortoises, Gopherus agassizii, regardless of the specific locality they inhabit,
live in a type of desert biome known as creosote bush scrub. Dominated by the creosote bush, this
ecosystem also features vegetation such as Ambrosia dumosa (white bur sage), Ambrosia salsola...

While conducting research on desert tortoise burrows, a team of scientists documented 31 species
as commensals (Walde, Walde, Delaney, Pater, 2009). However, it is likely that many more species
share the shelter of the tortoise s burrow.
With the camphor like fragrance of the resinous coating on its leaves that volatilizes when rainfall
occurs, the creosote bush imparts a fresh, pleasant smell of rain to the parched desert ecosystems
it inhabits (Flores, 2013). On the contrary, the pesticide/wood preservative creosote oil is a
petroleum based product that has nothing to do with the desert shrub creosote bush. Creosote oil is
a toxic substance distilled from coal tar and used to preserve railroad crossties, marine and
foundation timbers, and the like.
Identification
A slow growing evergreen shrub with a wide distribution in the North American deserts, L.
tridentata is first and foremost a shelter source, providing shade and cover for numerous desert
organisms, both flora and fauna.
An extremely long lived shrub, each individual plant may live as long as 100 to 200 years. The
wild creosote bush typically reaches a height of 3 to 8 feet (1 to 2.4 meters) with an equal spread.

City Council Case Study
Attending the last City Council meeting in University City reminded how petty and vile people
can be. Implored to attend by a couple of well heeled politicians, a not so representative group of
U City residents took turns attacking our mayor, Shelley Welsch. It would be good to remember
that Mayor Welsch ran virtually unchallenged in her bid for a second term as Mayor. During her
previous bid for mayor she defeated Councilman Crow. In a recent Post article, distinctions
between human error and an entirely different intentional act, such as the email communication
sent from Crow to the representative of the IAFF (International Association of Firefighters) which
is suing the City were omitted. With the help of Council members Carr and Crow, the Post has
attributed a number of negatives to U City, including the functioning of our Council. There are 6
Council members in U City and 4 of them often, though not exclusively, vote the same way our
mayor does. According to a speaker at last Monday s meeting, those four are controlled by the
mayor. This is what Carr and Crow want people to believe. Does that sound reasonable? One is an

Indigenous Australians are believed to have arrived onto Australian mainlands across the sea of

European explorers followed, however, in 1770 Lieutenant James Cook explored the East Coast of

Essay on Isak Denisen
Isak Denisen Dinesen faced despair, disillusionment and debilitating physical illness in her life and
her writing shows the importance of facing one s destiny with courage ...
Out of Africa
Isak Dinesen was a superb author. Her topics were so popular because she wrote about life and
her real experiences. Isak had a tough life, but as the quotation says, she faced them with courage.
She worked hard and was extremely forgiving of the people she loved. In her autobiography, Out of
Africa, Dinesen portrayed herself, the Baroness Karen Blixen.
Despair came easily to Dinesen. Her life was depressing, but she made the best of it. At a young age
she was to marry her first true love. He stood her up and she ended up marring her ... Show more

He cheated on her and gave her syphilis. They divorced and in the mean time she was having an
affair with her new love Dennis. She was not happy with him either because he would not commit
fully to her. He liked going on trips and being alone. Dennis would leave Karen alone for long
periods of time. She hated the fact that she could not control the men around her.
Even in work Dinesen had struggles. She initially intended to start a dairy farm, but her husband
planned to plant coffee. She was extremely upset that he would go behind her back, especially
when it involved her money. However, she went along with the idea. Her husband did not stay
around for long. He went off to war and left the plantation to her. After many years of planting and
harvesting, Dinesen finally got a good crop. That year though, her plantation unfortunately burned.
She was left with nothing. She had to sell her house, land, and possessions to have money to go
back home.
Last, but not least was the death of Dennis. Karen had been searching all her life for her one true
love, one that would be hers and not cheat on or use her. Dennis was faithful to her and he was
trying to commit to her. In an unfortunate and unexpected plane crash, Dennis was killed. When
finally she had found what she had been looking for in love, it was taken away from her.
Throughout all this Dinesen managed to keep going. She never let her misfortunes get the best of
her. It took courage and strong will to get her

Racial Barriers in Grace Paley s Short Story Samuel Essay
Racial Barriers in Grace Paley s Short Story Samuel
It is hard to distinguish the difference between which race is more important. One might ask
themselves if white is superior over colored skin. There have been numerous struggles and much
success in the fight towards equality between the races. Although many large steps have been made,
there are still existing racial barriers. One particular struggle is whether or not people of different
races should interact with each other. Should Caucasian adults interact with young children of
color? A question that becomes especially critical when children are putting themselves in
potentially dangerous situations. This moral debate is portrayed in Grace Paley s short story,
Samuel. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the short story, Two men and others looked at the four boys jumping and jiggling on the
platform and thought, It must be fun to ride that way (191). Men normally have influence to
control dangerous situations and instead of using this power to persuade the boys to come into a
safe place, they allow the children to continue to endanger their lives. The women on the train
became very angry when they look at the four boys. Most of them brought their brows together
hoping the boys would see their extreme disapproval (191).
In the story, one woman in the subway car saw that three of the boys were Negroes and the
fourth was something else she couldn t tell for sure. She was afraid that they would be fresh and
laugh at her and embarrass her (191). It seems that the women are scared of even confronting the
barrier that separates her from the children. The racial wall is so intimidating to the women that all
they could do is sit and watch the young boys in fear of their safety.
As time passed, the racial begun to slowly deteriorate. Sometimes, motherly instincts will overcome
anything, and in this case it is to persuade the women to stand up to the children. The lady who
was afraid of embarrassment saw the boys jerk forward and backwards and grab the swinging guard
chains...She stood up with determination and went to the door (191). Allowing her maternal

Essay on The Swastika in MAUS
The Swastika in MAUS
The image of the swastika pervades Arthur Spiegelman s graphic novel MAUS. In a work where
so much of the Holocaust has been changed in some way after all, there are no humans in this
version, only cats, mice, dogs, and pigs we must wonder why Spiegelman chooses to retain this
well known emblem. To remove it entirely or replace it with another, invented symbolwould
completely disorient the reader; but some might claim that this is the effect at which Spiegelman is
aiming. I believe it is not. Rather, Spiegelman uses the swastika to subtly remind the reader that
while the guise in which events are presented may be somewhat unfamiliar, the novel is still a
narrative of the Holocaust.
The swastika, it has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But these changes help to make it more stern, more authoritarian, more evil a testament to
Spiegelman s ability to adapt this already emotionally loaded symbol.
It is with the coming of the swastika that the graphic novel becomes dark . I mean this in two
ways. First, the first chapter of the novel is rather light in its message, focusing on the beginning
of the relationship between Vladek and Anja. The swastika first appears on the frontispiece to
the second chapter, ironically titled The Honeymoon . After this point, the totalitarianism begins.
The presence of the swastika is strongest at the first time Vladek sees it. He states, on first seeing
it, It was the beginning of 1938 before the war hanging high in the center of town, it was a Nazi
flag. Here was the first time I saw, with my own eyes, the swastika. On the next page, the swastika
becomes detached from the flag and floats like an ominous moon on the horizon behind the scene
of a pogrom. Spiegelman here is milking the emotive power of the swastika for all that it is worth.
But perhaps the most interesting use of the swastika in MAUS is to be found towards the end of
the book. Anja and Vladek are attempting to hide when they come to a crossroads, and the roads
meet in the form of a swastika. Vladek tells Art: Anja and I didn t have where to go. We walked in
the direction of Sosnowiec but where to go?! It was nowhere we had

Walt Disney Set the Stage for Great Film Making Essay...
All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them , said by Walt Disney
himself ( Walt Disney Quotes ). Disney had a big imagination followed with big goals. As always
in the entertainment business, there are going to be people competing to tear each other down, but
Walt Disney kept his focus and determination to take on great things. All it took was one person
with a strong passion for entertainment to set the stage for filmmaking long after he was gone.
Walt Disney came from an Anglo Irish family that immigrated to Canada just before the potato
famine ( Walt Disney Interviewed by Fletcher Markle ). On December 5, 1901, Elias and Flora

Moving To A New School Essay
Madison Tritico
ENGL 1301 B07
Dr. Kovar
19 September, 2015
As an easy going person, I have never thought of the world as a harsh place. However, after going
through an intimidating incident, my view on the world is forever changed. Being bullied helped
me understand what some kids are going through everyday, and I have come to realize that bullying
needs to come to an end.
I never once believed I would be bullied; I expected every person I talked to, to treat me fairly.
Moving to a new school and a new place changed the way I portrayed others. I came from a small
town, with about 4,000 people, to a city with ten times more the population. The city was large
and so was my new school. I was so scared of what was to come of my new school. My mother
felt bad for me and introduced me to her friend s daughter, Jordan. Jordan is my age and she was
going to the same school I was. We became friends before school started and made plans of doing
homework and sitting together at lunch. I told her my worries of finding my classes and making
friends. I even told her about the cute boy, who was now my next door neighbor, Kenny. Jordan
and I quickly became friends and I was beginning to become confident on attending a new school.
Little, did I know, that becoming her friend would change my perspective on life, forever.
I eventually learned to choose my friends wisely on my first day of sophomore year. I walked into
the enormous building and was so overwhelmed

How Does Rap Music Affect African American Culture
The Change The world we live in changes every day. Within these daily changes, music is not an
exception. According to Kate Conradin in the Controversial Rap Themes..., Rap music is a
genre that was born out of slave spiritual, blues, jazz, and soul as a musical expression of African
American traditions (Conrad, Dixon, and Zhang 135). Now, rap is associated with those who

begun to question how applicable the Neoclassical theory of the firm is to present day
corporations. (Lipczynski, Wilson, Goddard, 2009) Managerial and behavioural theories have been
developed with the intention of providing a more realistic insight into how contemporary
organisations function. This paper will address how the managerial and behavioural theories differ
to the neoclassical approach of the firm, and to what extent they enhance our understanding of
firms. In doing so Baumol s sales revenue maximisation and Williamson s ... Show more content on

At its most basic, neoclassical is reliant upon the surrounding market conditions controlling the
decisions of firms. The Neoclassical approach to the firm provides us with a market wide
framework from which we can make predictions on future outcomes.
During the eighteenth century economic thinking was heavily influenced by the growing textile
industry, where the majority of suppliers were producing homogenous products; leaving no motive
for the economic theory being developed to account for diverse market conditions. (Lipczynski,
Wilson, Goddard, 2009) According to The Modern Corporation and Private Property Revised
Edition (1969) written by Berle and Means, out of The 200 Largest Non Financial Corporations in
the United States the number classed as Management Controlled increased from 88 to 169 from
1929 to 1963 respectively. (Berle and Means, 1968) Amidst the globalisation of firms and the rise
of the stock exchange, firms have become more complex and there ownership has become more
diluted. The supermarket industry is an example of how firms have become more multifaceted;
selling thousands of heterogeneous products, buying from countless suppliers and being owned by
whoever chooses to buy shares on the stock exchange. Due to firms increasing in both size and
complexity, owners of firms often employ teams of managers to run their

Flaws Of Democracy
In regard to Natasha and Graham s point, while oligarchies have potential flaws there are also a
number of issues with the democratic system. For starters, true democracy is not well suited for
government because it requires an entire nation to vote and run a country while maintaining their
normal lives. As a result, America and many other countries are actually Republics or representative
democracies. However, even these systems of governmenthave many inherent flaws. For starters,
for a democracyor even a representative democracy to work the votingelectorate must be informed
accurately. This proves to be impossible in real society due to the mass of issues and the trouble
with biased media. For example, the United States today functions

shows the significance and effectivity of having good communication which is something that is
taken for granted. Since the beginning of the episode it is evident that there is a lack of

Psychological Argument Analysis
The purpose of this article was to show that people are influenced based off of how a question is
asked. In the article there was a study done where people watched a video of a car accident. Then
they were asked about how fast were the cars going when they smashed into each other. The study
showed that when the word smashed was used, people would say that the cars were going faster
than if they would ve used the word hit. Also, when people were asked a questiona week later they
had different responses. When they were asked, Did you see any broken glass when the two cars

Cornell University did an experiment with a setup that they called a visual cliff. The visual cliff
was made of a board laid across a large sheet of heavy glass. They put a patterned sheet right up
against the glass on one side and left it lower on the other side. This was used to test the
behavior of infants and young animals. The psychological concept in this paper was to see if
young children and animals are aware of height perception. They found out that most human
infants can discriminate depth as soon as they can crawl. The experiments were done to see if
infants and young animals were born with depth perception or when they could visually predict
the depth of different things. By creating the visual cliff and setting babies and animals on
it.They were able to study the behavior and see if they prefered the shallow side or the deep
side. Toward the end of the paper they were doing experiments to see if animals reared in the
dark at an early age. They wondered if this would change depth perception of rats and kittens, but
it really did not have an affect. From the work from the visual cliff they are concluding that a
seeing animal will be able to discriminate depth when they are able to move around at a young age.

how it s suppose to result as there is more dextrose added to the variable. The differences

where the control had a higher percentage of ethanol produced rather than the variable. Another
trend was both ethanol and ABV results had close to the same difference of ethanol produced
for the controlled which was around 3.5%. This data doesn t fit the research, as it shows that the
more sugar added to alcohol the more ethanol is produced. The results above prove that this
statement is wrong as the ethanol results show that the control has 3.5% more and for the ABV
3.41% more ethanol produced which is wrong as the variable should ve produced more alcohol
as there is more dextrose (+200g) added to it. When comparing the class data for the ethanol

theory right if more sugar is added, more ethanol is produced and if less sugar is added, there is
less ethanol produced. Where as all the groups who increased the sugar volume ended up as the

Social Norms In Sociology
To start, I will discuss what social norms are. Societal norms are both unwritten informal rules
that are accepted by people and written formal rules that are strictly enforced laws, of how
people should carry themselves (Keirns, et al., 2016). Social norms are part of the socialization
process. The socialization process is the way people learn the norms and beliefs of our society to
fit in (Keirns, et al., 2016, n.p.). Some examples of social norms are looking into the eyes of the
person you are speaking with, using silverware instead of your hands when eating, and saying

Gender role is described as the perception the society has on how males and females should carry
themselves in terms of appearance and behaviors. Some examples of perceptions the society has
on women in the home are, they need to know how to cook, take care of the children, and
manage the house. I applied this sociological concept because I see the perception evident in my
log. During my husband absence, I manage the house by making sure my daughter made it to
school, the house stayed clean and provided my children meals. When my husband is home, and
I am at work, he is usually taking on my role until I get back. When I do get back home from
work, my husband basically expects me to perform the gender role of a woman in the house.
Sociologists Schieman and Taylor (2001) studies stated women s role in the society are
traditionally revolved around tasked that are household related. They also stated that in the
society, men and women are expected to have different responsibilities within the home. Women s
central role is often linked to family, even while involved in the workforce, men s core role often
tends to be associated with paid employment (Schieman Taylor, 2001, p. 473). This verifies that the
examples I stated earlier about the perception the society has on the gender role of women are

Man versus nature is the main theme in this novel, which stands in for the conflict between
Aronnax and Captain Nemo, and between Nemo and himself. Aronnax is a naturalist and is
obligated to choose between science and his companions, as a result of his opposition with
Nemo. Man versus nature consists men battling against a force of nature in order to achieve their
goals. Nemo set off his ship with the purpose of revoking men s development from that era, then
the modern era and transform society into was he believed was better. Whereas, the novel s
theme is really about men trying to overcome and defy nature. Captain Nemo believes he can
create the same land s atmosphere in the Nautilus; the Nautilus also represents the conflict
between man and nature because Nemo used it to explore the broad and unexplored oceans.
Another theme in the novel is revenge. Revenge is the act of taking vengeance for injuries
on wrongs. Captain Nemo is seeking revenge from injustices that occurred while he was on land.
He also feels apathetic towards the rest of the world for the way they constantly use and

Progressivist Teaching Philosophy
Progressivist Philosophy of Education
As a future educator there are many ideas or philosophies on how teachers should teach students.
Students learn best when they are able to relate to the material that is being taught. Cohen (1999)
writes, This educational philosophy stresses that students should test ideas by active
experimentation. Learning is rooted in the questions of learners that arise through experiencing the
world The curriculum is based on the needs, ability, and experiences that the student has. From the
curriculum, teachers create lessons that influence their students to actively participate and
encourage development. The teacher is merely an organizer who offers encouragement as well as
prompting the students to use critical thinking skills by challenging them with questions. Students
then use this skill to cooperate in groups as well as discuss view point that they may not agree
with. This form of duel communication is a skill that allows the student to become more
comfortable with their social skills as well as team working.
Role of Teacher and Student
As a teacher the main focus is on the students. In the progressivist teaching philosophy, student
centered learning is the focus. The progressivist style of learning not only looks out for the student
in their education but also looks out for their well being. As a progressivist teacher, they allow the
student to make his/her own experience. From this experience, teachers use this as a way to get

However, even if prostitution is legal for sex trade workers who enter this lifestyle freely and
deliberately, it is important to look at the choice and constraints in the performance of this deviant
activity. Is prostitution a form of sexual deviance, a paid work, or a troubled response to childhood
abuse?
Causes of Women entering Prostitution
Most street prostitutes have common backgrounds; they are women and men who come from the
lower socio economic strata, and who are or were greatly dissatisfied with some aspects of their
home life (Lowman, 1992, p.54).
Research on prostitution shows some basic patterns in the family backgrounds of people involved
in prostitution. Often less than 18 years of age, most have few qualifications for other work.
Various reasons can be invoked as to why young adults turn to prostitution; poverty, mental illness,
homelessness, a history of childhood emotional, physical or sexual abuse.
Troubled childhood
Usually, prostitutes leave home at a very early age (67% of prostitutes enter the profession under
the age of eighteen). The average age of sex workers is 13 years old (Silbert, amp; Pines, 1982,
p.122). However, some are as young as young as 11 years old, as Wayne Chamberlain (1998) notes.

Eutrophication in te Chesapeake Bay Essay
Introduction
What is your topic/issue within that topic?
Eutrophication is a concern in the Chesapeake Bay. Eutrophication is caused by excessive amounts
of nutrients. Excessive nutrients in the bay have negative effects on the bay s ecosystem. The extra
nutrients make the environment unbalanced. The extra nutrients cause a chain reaction that
eventually kills most of the organisms in that area. This is what is known as a dead zone.
What is your personal interest in the topic?

Chesapeake, I fish in many of its tributaries, and I visit many sights built around this watershed. I

It is understood that there is not just one problem causing the dead zone in the bay. Two main
contributors are the focus. Details are presented on the problems brought to the bay by agriculture,
and development. The language is easy to understand and the scientific and environmental message
is conveyed in a way that can be followed.
Summary of source The importance of the Chesapeake Bay is introduced. The bay is home to a
large amount of seafood businesses, and many people fish the bay and its tributaries for sport.
Grass beds are essential to many of the organisms living in this ecosystem, but are being destroyed
by pollution. Agriculture involves more than a fourth of the bay s watershed. This makes
agricultural runoff a big focus. Excessive nitrogen and phosphorus causes eutrophication. These
nutrients come from pesticides and sewage also. A goal was set in 1985 to cut back the percent of
nutrients being put into the bay by these two sources. It is thought that redirecting the flow of soil
with nutrients in them will reduce the runoff, but if the nutrients seep into groundwater they still
get into the Chesapeake Bay. Farmers have ways to help reduce these nutrient levels, but it is not
the cheapest way to farm, so not all farmers are doing their part to save the bay. Another
contributor of runoff land development. Runoff can occur from exposed land being prepared to be
developed, or because of what has been used to replace what used to naturally be.

Ludwig Van Beethoven Was Born
Ludwig van Beethoven was born, in a small ish German Rhineland city of Bonn in 1769, 1770,
and 1772 (it was characteristic of his singularity to be born not once but thrice). The first Ludwig
was indeed born in 1769, but, like so many children of that time, expired within a week. The
second of the same parentage followed some twenty months later, born (probably) on December
16, 1770, and baptized (certainly) the following day; and the third never really existed, save in
the lifelong confusion of Ludwig the second (Siepmann 2006 p. 3) Beethoven had always been
unsure of his age so he had asked multiple acquaintances of his as he grew older for information
in regards to his birth, yet, every time a person had produced proof of his birth; Beethoven refuted
the evidence. If Beethoven had trouble with his age, others, including some who knew him,
seemed to have trouble with his names (Siepmann p. 4). Beethoven was referred to by many
names throughout his lifetime, he was known variously as Ludwig, Louis, Luis, and Luigi, thereby
embracing four nationalities, while his family name appears from time to time as Betthoven,
Bethofen, even Bephoven, with van often being exchanged for von (Siepmann p. 4) Sir
Beethoven didn t exactly have the easiest of upbringing nor did he have a very comfortable living
in his very own household. This was primarily due to the fact that his father was, a mediocre court

The Secret History of the Credit Card Essay
The Secret History of the Credit Card
1. What is the main purpose of a usury law? Be specific.
The purpose of usury laws was to regulate the maximum interest rates of loans. This law was
created to protect borrowers from excessively high interest rates. It insured that lenders could not
put the borrower in a situation where they were not able to fully pay off their debt. However, as said
on investopedia.com, In the United States, individual states are responsible for setting their own
usury laws. 2. Why did South Dakota decide to eliminate its cap on interest rates?

Citibank brought in hundreds of white collar jobs. Citibank is now the largest employer in the
entire state. Citibank turned the credit card business, which before was losing money, into an
immensely profitable business. As stated in the frontline article, the unlikely state of South Dakota
became the place where America s credit card industry first began to really take off .
5. In the Citibank example, how did Citi use existing laws to alter its business mode?
The usury laws in New York were putting Citibank under. The banklost over one million dollars on
its audacious foray from credit cards because the inflation rate went beyond the amount of
interest they were allowed to charge customers. It did not look good for Citibank so they needed
to make quick changes. Since the usury laws in New York were what was holding them back they
went to South Dakota, where there were no usury laws, hoping for a new start. The change in
location was everything they needed to get back on track and make profit off the credit card
business. 6. What was the underlying basis of the Marquette Bank decision?
The Marquette Bank decision was a U.S. Supreme Court decision ruling that a bank could export
its interest rate to another state. This meant that a bank could move its headquarters to a state with
no usury laws and offer loans with high interest rates to other states. This is what really sparked

Wicca is defined as a religion influenced by pre Christian beliefs and practices of western Europe
that affirms the existence of supernatural power (as magic) and of both male and female deities
who inhere in nature and that emphasizes ritual observance of seasonal and life cycles. (Merriam
Webster Dictionary, n.d.) Wicca is commonly practiced by modern day witches. The Wiccan
religion, along with paganism and satanism, use the Pentagram as their symbol. The Pentagram has

Rape and Intimate Partner Abuse In The Lesbian Community...
In every 45 seconds, someone is sexually violated in the United States. Out of every 6 women, one
has experienced an attempted rape or complete rape. Lesbians and bisexual women remain at
increased risk of sexual victimization compared to heterosexual women. In order for a woman to
determine the direction of her life, she must first determine her sexuality. Sexuality is a deep,
integral part of any human s life. This should not be a subject of coercion or debate. The society
must recognize that a woman has the right to freely pre determine her sexuality without oppression

Women neither become lesbians due to shortage of men nor because they were abused by men.
Lesbians, just like women in heterosexual relationships are subjected to physical, sexual and verbal
abuse by their partners. Abusive dominating partner may subject the partner to emotional, physical

possessed by men is wrong and misplaced. Cases of lesbians being abused by their partners have
been reported in the United States and other parts of the world including South Africa. Studies on
domestic violence have been carried out for decades. In recent years, scholars have been paying
attention to domestic violence in the context of non heterosexual relationships. They have called
for intensive research of lesbian intimate partner violence (IPV) and into the experience of lesbian

idea that societies in which friendships and relationships are void of men are protected from the
natural control and power men possess over women in the patriarchal society. This utopian myth
has the perception that since lesbian relationships are composed of two women, then a kind of
default egalitarianism is naturally created. Such a myth encourages the delusion that lesbian

Chemical Reaction Of Mentos
The scope of this paper is to explain the reaction that takes place when Mentos are dropped into
Diet Coke. This experiment is used frequently because of what happens when the candy meets the
soda. A geyser is formed that shoots out of the bottle that resembles a volcanic eruption. Due to the
similarity, it is also used for volcanoprojects. Depending on the alterations to the Mentos and/or
Diet Coke, the geyser can either go much higher or much lower than normal.
This reaction has produced much confusion among people about whether it is a physical or
chemical reaction. It is a physical reaction because the substances remained the same, the reaction
did not form a new substance. (Coffey) What creates the physical reaction is water molecules that
go into the pores on the Mentos. The rough surface of Mentos allow this to happen. The water
molecules grow to create carbon dioxide bubbles on the outside of the candy. The Mentos gain
buoyancy, which means they rise to the surface of the soda. After this occurs, there is increased
bubble formation, resulting in the liquid turning to foam and shooting out of the bottle. Bubble
formation is also increased by the gum arabic and gelatin in the Mentos combining with the
potassium benzoate, sugar, and aspartame in the Diet Coke. (Hiskey, Mental Floss)
As stated above, there are alterations that speed the reaction. These include decreasing the surface
tension of the Diet Coke, performing an acid base reaction, and warming the Diet Coke.

Media Influence On American Women
Over the past several decades, the media and its influence on popular culture has been the single
most destructive force in the lives of American women. The media dictates much of what of our
society aspires to, and sets standards and precedents for a number of topics and behaviors. While,
at times, it can be the source of honest and educational information, media can also have a
detrimental effect on a person s worldview. The advertisingindustry, in particular, has transformed
women from human beings into sex objects by using their physical appearances as a platform to
increase revenue. Advertisers, in their effort to attract consumers, have abused technology,
including photo editing software, leading to ethical consumer disputes and serious... Show more

While porn does play an undeniable role in this negative mentality, companies such as Victoria s
Secret and Hooters can have an equivalent effect. Victoria s Secret s advertisements are not focused
on selling their clothes and Hooters restaurants are not concerned with serving the highest quality
food to their customers. In reality, both companies are selling sex it is about the bodies wearing the
lingerie and the waitresses serving the food. Men are seeing a world in which females are devalued,
and they re learning to take this same worldview into their future relationships (Berg 245). Often,
men are not equipped to deal with women s emotions or personalities when they enter relationships
because the sexualization of women in the media has made them seem like objects, not human
beings. Again, men are taught to value women for nothing other than their youth, beauty, and

Impact Of The Spanish Empires On The Aztecs
Aliki Daviotis
Paper #2
December 2nd, 2017
Extending along the valley of Mexico, with Tenochtitlan as its capital; the Aztec Empire resided.
The Aztecs had significant wealth from trading and heavy payments of tribute from the conquered
natives. From the years 1200 1520, the Aztecs prospered and expanded their empire immensely.
However, all of this was going to change when the Spanish landed on the Yucatan Peninsula in
1519. Following Christopher Columbus foundation of permanent settlement in the Caribbean, the
Spanish were seeking conquest, expedition and colonization of new territory. Although there were
multiple factors that contributed to the remarkable victory by the Spanish in the sixteenth century
such as religion; it was the indigenous alliances, technological superiority, and disease that was
most impactful. The Spanish conquistadors were not your typical farmers or craftsmen they were
soldiers, travelers, and mercenaries in search of wealth. In their quests for fortune and land, they
invaded and enslaved native communities and looted gold, silver, and other treasures that were up
for grabs. The two prosperous conquests were those of the Aztec empire in Mexico by Hernan
Cortes and the Inca empire in Peru by Francisco Pizarro. They both had unpretentious forces that
were far outnumbered by the warriors of the empires they conquered. A vital element of their
success was their progressed weaponry and durable armor. Spanish conquistadors

Factors Affecting Nigerias Underdevelopment
According to an economist the idea of development is a situation whereby there is an increase in
a nations GNP and GDP, leading to an increase in growth .but to a sociologist this is a surface
definition as development or rather a country is regarded as developed when such increase is
affecting the living condition of its people even to the smallest group in the society. Where we
don t only calculate numbers and figures and structures but can see the positive change of things
in the life of the people, both the rich, average and poor. Then such a society would be regarded as
developed. For example the living conditions of the USA.

Neo colonialism or imperialism
This is an external factor of Nigeria s underdevelopment; it is the highest form of exploitation
from the British countries to their colonies after independence. Nigeria has contributed to its
economic backwardness, as it promotes the maintenance of foreign domination and enhances neo
colonialism and the flowering of subjugationism (onimode, 1981). Imperialism has always been
an exploitative phenomenon, which was the initial motive for colonization. Nigeria has been
seen as a dumping ground for most British counties, making it difficult for us to produce our own
goods. Also the fact that we are primary producers with fewer technicalities to produce our raw
materials into finished products makes it a means of imperialism as we export our goods at the
rate determined by the British colonies and still import back at a higher cost. For example the
crude oil, Nigeria is the largest country with the crude oil but the poorest in economic state due
lack of technicality in transforming crude oil into petrol which led to the issue of sucidy removal
in January 1st 2012, even after which things haven t changed as fuel scarcity hits most part of the
country e.g. Abuja, Lagos etc. as at 19th September 2012.
3.Poor leadership
According to john c. Maxwell leadership is about influence and niyi adesonya sees it as not just
influence but also inspiration . The idea of Nigeria s leadership is just based on selfish gain of

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Friend Essay
Many people define what friend is by their own definition such as a person attached to another
by feelings of affection or personal regard or people who are aware of how retarded you are and
still manage to be seen in public with you. people who make you laugh till you pee your pants.
people who cry for you when one of your special items disappear. when you dont have enough
money to get a ice cream, they chip in. knows all of your internet passwords. People who would
never make you cry just to be mean. For me, friend is someone who accept the way you are,
someone who always cheer you up, someone who always support you no matter your condition is.
There are also two types of people. The first type is those who like to have friends that are similar
to them. And the other type is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The advantages to have friends that are similar to you are you can adapt with them easier,
because your character is similar to your friend s, you can easily connected with your friend.
Besides that, you can also doing everything together with your friend because you must be have
the same hobby with your friend. On the other hand, it s also easier for you to understand your
friend s feeling because your friend have the same personality with you. But, if you just have
friend that similar to you, you will never try new things that maybe also wonderful. Everything
would be bored for you because you always do the same thing and try the same thing. For example,
you like to eat ramen only in Ikudo Ichi, and your friend also eat ramen in Ikudo Ichi. Because
both of you have the same taste and habit, you always eat ramen there. You never try to eat ramen
in other restaurants like marugame udon. If you have friend that different from you, you will try
new wonderful things. You will learn to try something that you never try before. You will also find
your life more colourful with type friend like that. In the other side, there are also some

Analysis Of Stilsim
Financial Performance Interpretation
Introductory Paragraph A review of a company s financial performance can help determine if the
organization is utilizing its resources to receive the most benefit for the organization for short and
long term planning. This paper will review the current performance of StilSim by comparing it to a
competitor and evaluating its past. A review of the company s short term liquidity, long term
solvency, asset management, and profitability will help to determine the next steps in the strategic
plan.
Short Term Liquidity Short term liquidity ratios help to determine if a company can operate
financially on a daily basis (Dess, Lumpkin, Eisner McNamara, 2014). The current ratio, quick ratio
and cash ratio ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These ratios are the most closely viewed by creditors, investors and management (Cornett, Adair
Nofsinger, 2009). The dividend payout ratio is the amount paid to stockholders and the retained
earnings ratio is the opposite (Sustainable Personal Finance, 2011). It is the amount that must be
held back in order to make the payout. Strength or Weakness. StilSim has a very weak dividend
payout and retained earnings. The company is paying out way more than it should and not
retaining enough to do any good. StilSim s retained earnings are negative and the payout is over
$2. There must be changes made to this immediately or the company will not last long. There needs
to be a balance.
Profitability Measures
A review of a company s profitability lets investors or managers know how efficiently a company
is operating. There are three key ratios to review. The profit margin, return on equity and return on
assets. The profit margin is the net income divided by sales. The higher the profit margins the
better. The return on equity is net income divided by total equity (Cornett, Adair Nofsinger, 2009)..
This can help to determine the amount of financial leverage the company is using. The return on
assets is the net income divided by total assets. This can also help determine the financial leverage
the company is using in regards to its assets (Cornett, Adair Nofsinger,

  • 2. Keeping People Well with Effective Public Health Practice The well being of communities is dependent on effective public health practice. In this assignment I will consider the statement The well being of communities is dependent on effective public health practice. I will do this by looking at wellbeing, defining public health practice and by looking at evidence based practice, epidemiology, policies and goals generated and their effective application. I will also suggest why public health practice is not always as effective in practice as it is in policy. Achievement of wellbeing is the nation s aim, so now how do we in practice with limited resources, political divisions, diverse demographics and actual poverty rising year on year causing 350,000 families alone to access one group of food banks last year( Trussel Trust 2013) , even begin to address this process. The momentum of disease, poverty, isolation moving towards wellbeing, achievement and community is the aim of all public health, an aim to improve the quality of lives lived out in a myriad of circumstances. With this momentum for quality and change wellbeing has been recognised as a measure for quality of life individually and in community and the Prime Minister in 2010 asked the Office of National Statistics (ONS) to measure the nations wellbeing (Cameron, 2010) The ONS attempted to comprehensively assess wellbeing of adults, youth and children including finance, social and human capital , asking questions where networks with others were also seen as a measure of ... • 4. Is Loki Of The Most Dominant Characteristics Of An Entire... One of the most dominant characteristics in any villain is a craving for destruction, whether it is the annihilation of a specific hero or of an entire world. Occasionally, however, the heel possesses a quality that contradicts this nefarious tendency. Rarely does a story include an evildoer whose actions end up benefitting those around him. This doer of good and... doer of evil ( Far Away and Long Ago 1) is Lokiof Norse mythology. While some of Loki s actions qualify as heinous, many of those who read of his misgivings are too quick to criticize the undervalued deity. This harsh judgment has spun into a popular culture that paints a misconstrued image of Loki in film. Although interpreted by modern media as inherently evil, the Norse god Loki is simply a misunderstood mischief maker who helps on his own accord, corrects his misdeeds, and ultimately causes the dawn of modern man. Before digging into his misdeeds, noting Loki s pure benevolence is essential. Atop a mountain, the gods built the city Asgard, a great City... that the Giants could never overthrow (Colum 6). As they built their great city, the gods were approached by a giant. Although the giant could not help build the halls or palaces of Asgard, [he could] build great walls that [could] never be overthrown (7), and so the gods took the giant s offer. Of course, however, this favor would not be performed without reward. Odin, the Father of the Gods, asks the giant what payment he desires, believing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Member Of The Zygophyllaceae A member of the Zygophyllaceae (caltrop) family, the creosote bush, Larrea tridentata, belongs to a flowering plant family of more than 250 members worldwide, many of which are native to desert regions. Creosote bush is abundant in three of the four North American deserts, i.e. the Mojave, the Sonoran, and the Chihuahuan Deserts. In the United States, L. tridentata occurs in the states of Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, and Utah. Most Agassiz s desert tortoises, Gopherus agassizii, regardless of the specific locality they inhabit, live in a type of desert biome known as creosote bush scrub. While conducting research on desert tortoise burrows, a team of scientists documented 31 species as commensals (Walde, Walde, Delaney, Pater, 2009). However, it is likely that many more species share the shelter of the tortoise s burrow. With the camphor like fragrance of the resinous coating on its leaves that volatilizes when rainfall occurs, the creosote bush imparts a fresh, pleasant smell of rain to the parched desert ecosystems it inhabits (Flores, 2013). On the contrary, the pesticide/wood preservative creosote oil is a petroleum based product that has nothing to do with the desert shrub creosote bush. Creosote oil is a toxic substance distilled from coal tar and used to preserve railroad crossties, marine and foundation timbers, and the like. • 6. City Council Case Study Attending the last City Council meeting in University City reminded how petty and vile people can be. Implored to attend by a couple of well heeled politicians, a not so representative group of U City residents took turns attacking our mayor, Shelley Welsch. It would be good to remember that Mayor Welsch ran virtually unchallenged in her bid for a second term as Mayor. During her previous bid for mayor she defeated Councilman Crow. In a recent Post article, distinctions between human error and an entirely different intentional act, such as the email communication sent from Crow to the representative of the IAFF (International Association of Firefighters) which is suing the City were omitted. With the help of Council members Carr and Crow, the Post has attributed a number of negatives to U City, including the functioning of our Council. There are 6 Council members in U City and 4 of them often, though not exclusively, vote the same way our mayor does. According to a speaker at last Monday s meeting, those four are controlled by the mayor. This is what Carr and Crow want people to believe. Does that sound reasonable? Essay on Isak Denisen Isak Denisen Dinesen faced despair, disillusionment and debilitating physical illness in her life and her writing shows the importance of facing one s destiny with courage ... Out of Africa Isak Dinesen was a superb author. Her topics were so popular because she wrote about life and her real experiences. Isak had a tough life, but as the quotation says, she faced them with courage. She worked hard and was extremely forgiving of the people she loved. In her autobiography, Out of Africa, Dinesen portrayed herself, the Baroness Karen Blixen. Despair came easily to Dinesen. Her life was depressing, but she made the best of it. She initially intended to start a dairy farm, but her husband planned to plant coffee. She was extremely upset that he would go behind her back, especially when it involved her money. However, she went along with the idea. Her husband did not stay around for long. He went off to war and left the plantation to her. After many years of planting and harvesting, Dinesen finally got a good crop. That year though, her plantation unfortunately burned. She was left with nothing. She had to sell her house, land, and possessions to have money to go back home. Last, but not least was the death of Dennis. Karen had been searching all her life for her one true love, one that would be hers and not cheat on or use her. Dennis was faithful to her and he was trying to commit to her. In an unfortunate and unexpected plane crash, Dennis was killed. When finally she had found what she had been looking for in love, it was taken away from her. • 9. Racial Barriers in Grace Paley s Short Story Samuel Essay Racial Barriers in Grace Paley s Short Story Samuel It is hard to distinguish the difference between which race is more important. One might ask themselves if white is superior over colored skin. There have been numerous struggles and much success in the fight towards equality between the races. Although many large steps have been made, there are still existing racial barriers. One particular struggle is whether or not people of different races should interact with each other. Should Caucasian adults interact with young children of color? A question that becomes especially critical when children are putting themselves in potentially dangerous situations. This moral debate is portrayed in Grace Paley s short story, Samuel. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the short story, Two men and others looked at the four boys jumping and jiggling on the platform and thought, It must be fun to ride that way (191). Men normally have influence to control dangerous situations and instead of using this power to persuade the boys to come into a safe place, they allow the children to continue to endanger their lives. The women on the train became very angry when they look at the four boys. Most of them brought their brows together hoping the boys would see their extreme disapproval (191). In the story, one woman in the subway car saw that three of the boys were Negroes and the fourth was something else she couldn t tell for sure. She was afraid that they would be fresh and laugh at her and embarrass her (191). It seems that the women are scared of even confronting the barrier that separates her from the children. The racial wall is so intimidating to the women that all they could do is sit and watch the young boys in fear of their safety. As time passed, the racial begun to slowly deteriorate. Sometimes, motherly instincts will overcome anything, and in this case it is to persuade the women to stand up to the children. • 12. Essay on The Swastika in MAUS The Swastika in MAUS The image of the swastika pervades Arthur Spiegelman s graphic novel MAUS. In a work where so much of the Holocaust has been changed in some way after all, there are no humans in this version, only cats, mice, dogs, and pigs we must wonder why Spiegelman chooses to retain this well known emblem. To remove it entirely or replace it with another, invented symbolwould completely disorient the reader; but some might claim that this is the effect at which Spiegelman is aiming. I believe it is not. Rather, Spiegelman uses the swastika to subtly remind the reader that while the guise in which events are presented may be somewhat unfamiliar, the novel is still a narrative of the Holocaust. The swastika, it has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But these changes help to make it more stern, more authoritarian, more evil a testament to Spiegelman s ability to adapt this already emotionally loaded symbol. It is with the coming of the swastika that the graphic novel becomes dark . I mean this in two ways. First, the first chapter of the novel is rather light in its message, focusing on the beginning of the relationship between Vladek and Anja. The swastika first appears on the frontispiece to the second chapter, ironically titled The Honeymoon . After this point, the totalitarianism begins. The presence of the swastika is strongest at the first time Vladek sees it. He states, on first seeing it, It was the beginning of 1938 before the war hanging high in the center of town, it was a Nazi flag. Here was the first time I saw, with my own eyes, the swastika. On the next page, the swastika becomes detached from the flag and floats like an ominous moon on the horizon behind the scene of a pogrom. Spiegelman here is milking the emotive power of the swastika for all that it is worth. But perhaps the most interesting use of the swastika in MAUS is to be found towards the end of the book. Anja and Vladek are attempting to hide when they come to a crossroads, and the roads meet in the form of a swastika. Vladek tells Art: Anja and I didn t have where to go. Disney had a big imagination followed with big goals. As always in the entertainment business, there are going to be people competing to tear each other down, but Walt Disney kept his focus and determination to take on great things. All it took was one person with a strong passion for entertainment to set the stage for filmmaking long after he was gone. However, after going through an intimidating incident, my view on the world is forever changed. Being bullied helped me understand what some kids are going through everyday, and I have come to realize that bullying needs to come to an end. I never once believed I would be bullied; I expected every person I talked to, to treat me fairly. Moving to a new school and a new place changed the way I portrayed others. I came from a small town, with about 4,000 people, to a city with ten times more the population. The city was large and so was my new school. I was so scared of what was to come of my new school. My mother felt bad for me and introduced me to her friend s daughter, Jordan. Jordan is my age and she was going to the same school I was. We became friends before school started and made plans of doing homework and sitting together at lunch. I told her my worries of finding my classes and making friends. I even told her about the cute boy, who was now my next door neighbor, Kenny. Jordan and I quickly became friends and I was beginning to become confident on attending a new school. The psychological concept in this paper was to see if young children and animals are aware of height perception. The experiments were done to see if infants and young animals were born with depth perception or when they could visually predict the depth of different things. By creating the visual cliff and setting babies and animals on it.They were able to study the behavior and see if they prefered the shallow side or the deep side. Toward the end of the paper they were doing experiments to see if animals reared in the dark at an early age. They wondered if this would change depth perception of rats and kittens, but it really did not have an affect. Social norms are part of the socialization process. The socialization process is the way people learn the norms and beliefs of our society to fit in (Keirns, et al., 2016, n.p.). Some examples of perceptions the society has on women in the home are, they need to know how to cook, take care of the children, and manage the house. I applied this sociological concept because I see the perception evident in my log. When my husband is home, and I am at work, he is usually taking on my role until I get back. Students learn best when they are able to relate to the material that is being taught. Cohen (1999) writes, This educational philosophy stresses that students should test ideas by active experimentation. Learning is rooted in the questions of learners that arise through experiencing the world The curriculum is based on the needs, ability, and experiences that the student has. From the curriculum, teachers create lessons that influence their students to actively participate and encourage development. The teacher is merely an organizer who offers encouragement as well as prompting the students to use critical thinking skills by challenging them with questions. Students then use this skill to cooperate in groups as well as discuss view point that they may not agree with. This form of duel communication is a skill that allows the student to become more comfortable with their social skills as well as team working. Details are presented on the problems brought to the bay by agriculture, and development. The language is easy to understand and the scientific and environmental message is conveyed in a way that can be followed. Summary of source The importance of the Chesapeake Bay is introduced. The bay is home to a large amount of seafood businesses, and many people fish the bay and its tributaries for sport. Grass beds are essential to many of the organisms living in this ecosystem, but are being destroyed by pollution. Agriculture involves more than a fourth of the bay s watershed. This makes agricultural runoff a big focus. Excessive nitrogen and phosphorus causes eutrophication. These nutrients come from pesticides and sewage also. A goal was set in 1985 to cut back the percent of nutrients being put into the bay by these two sources. It is thought that redirecting the flow of soil with nutrients in them will reduce the runoff, but if the nutrients seep into groundwater they still get into the Chesapeake Bay. Farmers have ways to help reduce these nutrient levels, but it is not the cheapest way to farm, so not all farmers are doing their part to save the bay. Women neither become lesbians due to shortage of men nor because they were abused by men. Lesbians, just like women in heterosexual relationships are subjected to physical, sexual and verbal abuse by their partners. Abusive dominating partner may subject the partner to emotional, physical and psychological abuse. The notion that a woman does not possess the strength or aggressiveness possessed by men is wrong and misplaced. Cases of lesbians being abused by their partners have been reported in the United States and other parts of the world including South Africa. Studies on domestic violence have been carried out for decades. In recent years, scholars have been paying attention to domestic violence in the context of non heterosexual relationships. They have called for intensive research of lesbian intimate partner violence (IPV) and into the experience of lesbian survivors (Walters, 2011). There is a myth regarding lesbian utopia. The myth originated from the idea that societies in which friendships and relationships are void of men are protected from the natural control and power men possess over women in the patriarchal society. This utopian myth has the perception that since lesbian relationships are composed of two women, then a kind of default egalitarianism is naturally created. Such a myth encourages the delusion that lesbian communities are more enlightened than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Chemical Reaction Of Mentos The scope of this paper is to explain the reaction that takes place when Mentos are dropped into Diet Coke. This experiment is used frequently because of what happens when the candy meets the soda. A geyser is formed that shoots out of the bottle that resembles a volcanic eruption. Due to the similarity, it is also used for volcanoprojects. Depending on the alterations to the Mentos and/or Diet Coke, the geyser can either go much higher or much lower than normal. This reaction has produced much confusion among people about whether it is a physical or chemical reaction. It is a physical reaction because the substances remained the same, the reaction did not form a new substance. (Coffey) What creates the physical reaction is water molecules that go into the pores on the Mentos. The rough surface of Mentos allow this to happen. The water molecules grow to create carbon dioxide bubbles on the outside of the candy. The Mentos gain buoyancy, which means they rise to the surface of the soda. After this occurs, there is increased bubble formation, resulting in the liquid turning to foam and shooting out of the bottle. Bubble formation is also increased by the gum arabic and gelatin in the Mentos combining with the potassium benzoate, sugar, and aspartame in the Diet Coke. (Hiskey, Mental Floss) As stated above, there are alterations that speed the reaction. These include decreasing the surface tension of the Diet Coke, performing an acid base reaction, and warming the Diet Coke. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The media dictates much of what of our society aspires to, and sets standards and precedents for a number of topics and behaviors. While, at times, it can be the source of honest and educational information, media can also have a detrimental effect on a person s worldview. The advertisingindustry, in particular, has transformed women from human beings into sex objects by using their physical appearances as a platform to increase revenue. Advertisers, in their effort to attract consumers, have abused technology, including photo editing software, leading to ethical consumer disputes and serious... Victoria s Secret s advertisements are not focused on selling their clothes and Hooters restaurants are not concerned with serving the highest quality food to their customers. In reality, both companies are selling sex it is about the bodies wearing the lingerie and the waitresses serving the food. Men are seeing a world in which females are devalued, and they re learning to take this same worldview into their future relationships (Berg 245). Neo colonialism or imperialism This is an external factor of Nigeria s underdevelopment; it is the highest form of exploitation from the British countries to their colonies after independence. Nigeria has contributed to its economic backwardness, as it promotes the maintenance of foreign domination and enhances neo colonialism and the flowering of subjugationism (onimode, 1981). Imperialism has always been an exploitative phenomenon, which was the initial motive for colonization. Nigeria has been seen as a dumping ground for most British counties, making it difficult for us to produce our own goods. Also the fact that we are primary producers with fewer technicalities to produce our raw materials into finished products makes it a means of imperialism as we export our goods at the rate determined by the British colonies and still import back at a higher cost. For example the crude oil, Nigeria is the largest country with the crude oil but the poorest in economic state due lack of technicality in transforming crude oil into petrol which led to the issue of sucidy removal in January 1st 2012, even after which things haven t changed as fuel scarcity hits most part of the country e.g. Abuja, Lagos etc. as at 19th September 2012. 3.Poor leadership According to john c.
