Water Quality And Water Pollution
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background information
Water is an essential resource for life which greatly influences our public and environmental health as
well as providing the pedestal for most of our economic activities. Unsustainable use of fresh water
resources, population increase, and the trend in industrial revolution have led to environmental
degradation especially by the release of partially treated or untreated wastewater into aquatic systems.
Thus, the global freshwater resource is at risk and majority of the problems that humanity faces in the
twenty first century are related to water quantity and/or water quality issues (UNESCO, 2009).
The importance of water for sustenance of life cannot be overemphasized and its depletion of either
through contamination, or careless use results in serious consequences (Owa, 2013). About 70 % of
the earth is covered with water, but hardly 2 % of it is quality for drinking (Mann et al., 2014). The
relative importance of water quality versus water quantity, sanitation and hygiene education
interventions for protecting the population s health has been the subject of considerable debate (Esrey
et al, 1985, 1991). Nevertheless, there is broad agreement that good water quality, free of pathogens
and heavy metals is important to human health.
Water is regarded polluted if some components or condition is existing to such a magnitude that the
water cannot be used for a particular purpose. Water pollution affects flora and organisms

Insurance Adendums Case Study
Hey Deb....I ve finished drafting individual addendums for all 31 of our management agreements and

management agreement it amends and so you can t necessarily assume a change you make in one

management agreements define the properties as Property and some as Project , I ve opted to use the
addendums to redefine all as Property . Please review the documents to ensure that I have properly

Cyber Security And The Internet Essay
The recent trend in the global business has been largely driven by the mechanism of the internet and
more broadly the cyberspace. This has created a more elaborate platform for all business activities to
be coordinated through an information system protocols. The information system is the management
of the information data base of an organization or an institution. Information is assumed to be a
significant asset, organisations strive to gather, retain and protect their valuable intellectual property to
place them in a prominent business platform over their competitors.
The proficiency and efficacy of the cyberspace in its application in accounting, finance, system
designs, manufacturing etc., cannot be denied nor neglected. The reality of the twenty first century is
simple; no organization can survive without the adoption and implementation of the mechanism of
information technology to their area of business. On the contrary perspective, there are several
challenges that are associated with the cyberspace, among which is majorly cyber security. Recently
the hackers activity has really skyrocketed and has become a major concern for organizations, states
and federal governments and even international organizations. Several regulatory schemes are put in
place to mitigate the activities of hackers across the globe.

The Power Of Women In The Book Of Esther
The book of Esther has two excellent example of empowered women, maybe not in the modern sense
of the word but both Esther and Vashti did the best they could with the circumstances they were given.
This book deals with problems of sexism, racial discrimination, the mistreatment of women s bodies,
and the power given to women. It also shows the changes that strong women can make in their roles in
society. Vashti is an example of personal integrity to the women of her society, and Esther is
discerning enough to save a whole people group from extinction.
The first example of integrity and power in the book is seen through Vashti, King Xerxes first wife.
Vashti shows her integrity and power when she refuses to go before the king and his friends for their
pleasure. On the seventh day, when King Xerxes was in high spirits from wine, he commanded the
seven eunuchs who served him ... to bring before him Queen Vashti, wearing her royal crown, in order
to display her beauty to the people and nobles, for she was lovely to look at. Some people believe that
when the king requests for Vashti to be displayed in her crown that what he means in only in her
crown and nothing else. Even if this is not true the request for her to show off her beauty to him and
his drunk friends is revolting. Vashti shows her bravery in her refusal to follow the king s wishes. It
appears to be common knowledge that the king can execute anyone who denies him. The description
of what happens after this even is

Unlike any other form of literature or entertainment, Fairy Tales help children to discover their
identity and suggest experiences needed to develop their character. In Bruno Bettelheim s Life
Divined from the Inside Bettelheim states that Fairy Tales intimate that a rewarding, good life is
within one s reach despite adversity but only if one does not shy away from the hazardous struggles
without which one can never achieve true identity (Bettelheim 106). Anne Sexton s Cinderella is a
perfect example of Bettelheim s definition of a Fairy Tale.

The Ball was for the prince to find a bride, and although Cinderella begged her stepmother to let her
go, she wasn t allowed. Bettelheim must agree with all this adversity that Cinderella is facing. Later,
her stepmother threw a dish of food into the fire and told her that if in an hour she had picked them up,
she could go. Even though the Birds came and picked up the food, Cinderella s stepmother still said
no. Her stepmother s reasoning for not letting her go was that she had no clothes and that could not
dance. It s hard not to see how hard Cinderella is trying to lead a good life, although she faces so much
adversity. Bettelheim might also agree.
As the old saying goes The good guy always wins ; Cinderella ends up going to the prince s ball and is
the only girl he dances with all night. For three nights the Prince walked Cinderella home, and she
would disappear. However, on the third day the prince caught Cinderella s shoe by putting wax on the
steps. He gets the shoe and tries to find her. He goes to Cinderella s house to try to find her, and her
step sisters try on the shoe with no avail. Finally, Cinderella tried on the shoe and it was a perfect fit.

Observation Reflection
A few weeks ago our group sat in the Starbucks located on campus for 20 minutes observing people
who sat, stood and walked around. In this time we had four different sets of eyes looking around and
taking notes. The following is a summary of our observations to answer the required questions. A
difficulty we may have encountered if we would have stayed in the same location longer is people
would have noticed. People were extremely busy, but as time went by one girl did notice there was
something odd about our table and began to stare. That would have made it awkward and caused a
distraction of what our goal if more people noticed us. Another difficulty would be our notes would
have been repetitive and it would have been hard focusing. As observers, constantly seeing the same
thing, it would just be too much for us.
During the observation period we conducted as a group, we felt that it would be very easy since we
naturally observe people in our free time. Though through time we felt very creepy and somewhat
stupid just sitting around staring at people and writing notes. Nevertheless, an overall feeling was that
it was interesting sitting. We observed our fellow classmates, Rutgers students and faculty staff who
passed by.
Overall, in the quality and accuracy of our field notes and conclusions, we would be very confident
since we had four different perspectives observing the same location, front, back and sides of the
room. All of us coming up with both similarities in our

Assignment #4 Topic 1
By 1984 Rock and Roll music was going through a changing phase. From break ups, tragic deaths due
to drugs and dangerous lifestyles, unnecessarily long and obnoxious solo performances, and overly
loud and unnecessary amps that almost sounded like they were going all the way to 11 instead of 10. It
seemed that Rock and Roll was dying out or becoming oversaturated as a musical genre. It is in this
environment that the movie This is Spinal Tap bases itself in.
This is Spinal Tap is a 1984 mock documentary or mockumentary about a fictitious band named
Spinal Tap. The movie is told from the interviewing perspective of director Rob Reiner as he
interviews and follows the British band for their United States concert tour for their new album, Smell
My Glove . Throughout the film and tour, almost everything seems to be going wrong for the band.
From drops in concert attendance, issues releasing their album cover due to controversial imagery,
sudden changes in management, and the general childish behaviour of the band holding them back.
The film pokes fun at the many real life rock stars and bands that existed at the time; including Yes,
Early Genesis, Ritchie Blackmore, The Beatles, Dee Snider, Led Zeppelin etc., and how the media and
society viewed them during this era. It shows how society viewed Rock Stars as larger than life idols,
often overlooking their obvious flaws until it catches up to them; and contrasts it

Louis Pasteur And Lister
Pasteurization and Listerine came from the names of pioneers against germs, who improved the
affects of medicine. Experimenting in the late 1800s, scientists Louis Pasteur in France, then Joseph
Lister in England, made discoveries that revolutionized patient health. Their work eliminated some of
the health risks patients experienced throughout medical processes. Both Louis Pasteur and Joseph
Lister transformed treatment, to the process and eventually to the patient during the Industrial
Revolution.
Before scientific improvements introduced by Pasteur and Lister, there was a lack of cleanliness
throughout the surgical process. Medical theory misunderstood the importance of a cleanliness
protocol, these faults resulted in sepsis and outpatient deaths. Though the actual surgery would be a
success, Ward Fever would claim lives afterwards. Louis Pasteur and Joseph Lister brought to light
the effects of illness and benefits of sterilization.
Louis Pasteur, a French chemist and biologist, founded the concept of temperature as a way to kill
germs. He showed that microorganisms caused liquids such as milk, wine and beer to spoil. He
invented a process in association with Claude Bernard in which liquids such as milk were heated to
kill bacteria and moulds present and then cooled to normal temperature (Louis Pasteur Famous
Inventors). Discovered in 1864, Pasteurization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

recovery. Together they are remembered for their contribution to modern medical science, and so it is

The Greatest Dramatists Of The Great Composers
He was an undersized little man, with a head too big for his body a sickly little man. His nerves were
bad. He had skin trouble. It was agony for him to wear anything next to his skin coarser than silk. And
he had delusions of grandeur. He was a monster of conceit. Never for one minute did he look at the
world or at people, except in relation to himself. He was not only the most important person in the
world, to himself; in his own eyes he was the only person who existed. He believed himself to be one
of the greatest dramatists in the world, one of the greatest thinkers, and one of the greatest composers.
To hear him talk, he was Shakespeare, and Beethoven, and Plato, rolled into one. And you would have
had no difficulty in hearing him talk. He was one of the most exhausting conversationalists that ever
lived. An evening with him was an evening spent in listening to a monologue. Sometimes he was
brilliant; sometimes he was maddeningly tiresome. But whether he was being brilliant or dull, he had
one sole topic of conversation: himself. What he thought and what he did. He had a mania for being in
the right. The slightest hint of disagreement, from anyone, on the most trivial point, was enough to set
him off on a harangue that might last for hours, in which he proved himself right in so many ways,
and with such exhausting volubility, that in the end his hearer, stunned and deafened, would agree with
him, for the sake of peace. It never occurred to him that he and his

Discourse Community In America
A discourse community is a group of individual who all have the same shared ideals, beliefs, values,

example, a grouping of innovative scientists are describing new ways of curing diseases, using their

Allusions In Araby Chapter 7
Chapter 7 ...or the Bible In Araby, the beginning of the story starts off with a description of the house
in which the boy lives in which includes the mentioning of an apple tree alone in the middle of the
yard. The apple tree is a direct allusion to the apple tree in the Genesis story of Adam and Eve where
they lived in a garden and could not eat from the apple tree. When the narrator says, I bore my chalice
safely through a throng of foes , the chalice represents a holy cup and him carrying it through a throng
off foes symbolizes him overcoming a challenge. Substitution atonement is when someone sacrifices
themselves so that others do not have to sacrifice themselves or suffer, like how Jesus sacrificed
himself to save all of us from our sins. The narrator sacrifices his time to go to the bazaar for a girl
that he has never even talked to and probably doesn t even like him. Yet, he sacrifices his feelings and
time anyway just for her. When the narrator sees the woman in the bazaar with the two men he realizes
his mistake in going there and feels betrayed by himself that he could let himself think that going there
for the girl would change anything or make her like him. Chapter 8 Hanseldee and Greteldum Fairy

Disadvantages Of Cooperative Learning
1. INTRODUCTION
The main aim of this essay is to analyse the different aspects of incorporation of cooperative learning
(CL) or group work (GW) in an academic environment, specifically within an economic classroom.
Furthermore, the contextualisation and definition of cooperative learning will be evaluated in order to
speculate whether cooperative learning in a tertiary education institution s economic department is
beneficial or detrimental to the working, personal and studying ability of students. Included in this
evaluation will be notable examples of CL or GW conducted by university students and the effects
thereof. However, due to logical reasoning in which more can be achieved if people work towards a
common goal, one could deduce that CL will have a beneficial effect on the working and studying
ability of students, including within in economic context.

conjures up fear, it brings in a sense of uncertainty. Through the alternating beliefs of the beast being

Theme Of The Dead
A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man ends with a beginning. Stephen Dedalus, the protagonist,
emerges in the last pages of the last chapter as the I who will forge in the smithy of my soul the
uncreated conscience of my race . Stephen Dedalus is James Joyce s alter ego and this novel is a
representation of the various instances in Joyce s personal life. Similar to this novel, is The Dead , the
last story in the Dubliners collection of short stories written by Joyce. There is a naturalistic depiction
of the middle class Irish life in and around the city of Dublin during the early twentieth century.

Chris Kyle Should Be Inducted
Christopher, or Chris, Kyle. If this name is not familiar, I soon hope it should be. After a career ending
injury as a professional rodeo participant, Kyle joined the Navy, earned his SEAL trident, and became
a sniper. His contributions to the United States demonstrated by his career proves, without a doubt that
Chris Kyle ought to be inducted into the U.S. Military Hall of Fame. Kyle protected U.S. lives, is
highly decorated, and helped veterans.
It was my duty to shoot the enemy and I don t regret it. My regrets are for the people I couldn t save:
Marines, soldiers, buddies. I m not naïve, I don t romanticize war. The Worst moments of my life have
come as a SEAL. But I can stand before God with a clear conscience about doing my job ( Chris Kyle
Quotes ). The first reason for why Chris Kyle should be inducted in the U.S. Military Hall of Fame is
for his undying desire to protect not only his country, but his fellow countrymen as well. Kyle served
over four tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan during the war on terror ( Chris Kyle Navy Seal ). Kyle
also continued to protect people indirectly after he retired from the armed services. According to a
Chris Kyle information website, ...he (Kyle) became chief instructor for training Naval Special

Purchase intentions for both, pasta and pizza, are shown in Exhibit 3 and Exhibit 7. Results shows that

Theme Of Family In The String Of Pearls
Another issue it caught my attention is the fact that family is assumed to be the only one who is
always there for helping you, however, in this novel, family is everyone s only enemy. In Victorian
period, the idea of family as sacred was expanded through cultural media, social or political discourses
and education. Novels like this which included marriage and domesticity contained debates of love
and family either principal or secondary story. These kinds of work made people see family as a
source of real happiness, despite the fact that abhorrent mistreatment happened in many households. It
would be interesting considering what Marry Strauss, a domestic violence expert, says about this
issue; With the exception of the police and military, the family is perhaps the most violent social
group, and the home is the most violent social setting. (15) Even ... Show more content on

success, even if that implicated to harm other people.
As Rosalind Crone points out in her book; In The String of Pearls , the social evil of anonymity is
successfully encapsulated in the character of the villain, Sweeney Todd, who, under the dark cloak of
the metropolis, and by taking advantage of the fragility of modern urban communities, could continue
to operate his murder machine for years without raising the suspicious of his neighbours. Although
some thought the barber was a little cracked , the people in the local community genuinely respected
this seemingly well to do businessman. His portrait on the first number of the 1850 novelette further

The Dining Halls At Virginia State University
Food plays an important role in our lives, especially in college. Food affects people financially,
nutritionally, and educationally. The dining halls at Virginia State University are a major source of
meals and food for students. Needless to say, it is important that those students can eat at these dining
halls. The problem with this is that the cost of campus dining is way too expensive for the limited
options we have.
At Virginia State University, students are paying $8,226 per year for their education, while they spend
$4,738 for the campus dining. That is basically half of the tuition! While most would hope if they
were paying almost the equivalent amount of their tuition on their meal plan, they would be receiving
a quality dining plan; however at Virginia State, that is not the case. There are limited choices at VSU;
usually only two places are open. If you choose not to eat at Jones dining hall or Foster, you are forced
to purchase meals off campus from Friday to Sunday night. This can become quite expensive for an
unemployed college student on a budget. It can be worse for those students who do not have
transportation. Another issue is the fact that many of the dining facilities are located on the main
campus, this makes it harder for students who live on the opposite side to have to walk across campus
for food. This limits our choices, even more, considering those who decline to take the long walk for
café food that isn t even satisfying.

Essay On Texas Salary
The Texas legislature is a bicameral body which is composed of a 31 member Senate and a 150
member House of Representative. The state legislature meets at the capital in Austin. State legislators
in Texas salaries consist of making $600 per month or $7,200 per year. Some people feel their salary is
too low, others feel as though they should raise their salaries to a sustainable career level wage. I
believe the state legislature should not have their salaries raised and I feel they are currently receiving
the amount they deserve. When you take into consideration the amount of work they do and
politicians are not well liked by people, are reasons why their current salary pay is justified.
The members of the Texas state legislature who consider ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In an article titled, How Much Should State Legislators Get Paid by Amelia Thomson DeVeaux, it
discusses the benefits of increasing a state legislator s salary. Peverill Squire, a professor of political
science at the University of Missouri and an expert on state legislatures created a scale which created
to assess professionalism. The question of salaries has haunted American legislatures since the 1640s,
said Squire. With the use of this scale, the question received a possible answer. Politicians found the

should receive a higher salary however, she didn t take into consideration that politicians are going to
try and make a career out of being a state legislature. With an increased salary, legislatures aren t
necessarily agreeing or promising to work better or efficiently. If they aren t agreeing to doing more or

Conditions Associated Thermal Regimes Impact On Roads
There are three possible conditions associated thermal regimes impact on roads; they are (a)sustained
winter thermal regime during winter months;(b) fluctuating thermal regimes during autumn and
spring, and (c)sustained thermal regime starting off in spring. The potential impacts of this on flexible
type pavement are as follows;
a. Under maintained below zero temperatures amid winter, and relying upon the predominating
moisture content in the pavement structure and the way of the pavement materials. For instance, frost
susceptible soils, for example, residues and clayey sediments, the sub grade or the pavement layer
may freeze increment in volume and subject the pavement to swelling weights, which inevitably
prompt frost heave. Pavements ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fluctuating thermal administration, particularly when de icing salts are applied on the surface,
may prompt scaling at the surface of pavements. By improving the concrete composition for example,
by utilizing air entering agent, higher cement content, lower water cement ratios the effect of de icing
salt can be diminished.
A noteworthy and supported decline in the recurrence of extremely cool days could lessen the danger
of pavement harm brought about by frost heave, freeze thaw cycling and defrosting and could
therefore decrease maintenance costs. Then again, it is not that simple. As winter gets hotter
pavements get more presented to freezing and thawing cycle, prompting premature decay of pavement
particularly to the upper layer of asphalt like cracking and ravelling.
Hence, in areas where roads are usually frozen in winter, a decrease in the number of very cold days
may impact the following;
Potentially, a higher frequency of freeze thaw cycles, causing durability and fatigue problems, and
greater incidence of black ice.
Increased demand for de icing chemicals on account of the higher frequency of freeze thaw cycle,
including potential damage from the adverse effect of repeated application.
Wet surface condition occurring more frequently, allowing more water to ingress the pavement
through cracks with consequential effects.
Reduced bearing capacity as a result of moisture ingress and/or thawing of an otherwise frozen
pavement.
Although a reduced

PERSUASION, INDOCTRINATION, AND INOCULATION 2 There are many dangers that plague
us in today s society. One of the most pressing issues is that of driving under the influence of alcohol.
This is a problem for many reasons. Firstly, driving while intoxicated is illegal. It shows the rising
problem of substance abuse, and most importantly, driving drunk is deadly. According to
Drinkinganddriving.org (2008 2013), 900,000 are arrested each year for DUI/DWI and a full 1/3 of

If you are convicted of DUI, it may be on your criminal record for your entire life. Offenses also go on
your driving record, which potential employers and insurers can access, ( How Stuff Works , 1998
2013). If you are driving under the influence of alcohol, the chances of you having a substance abuse
problem are very high. Substance abuse, simply put, is losing control of yourself to a substance. If you
do not have enough self control, or common sense, not to get into a vehicle when you have any type of
foreign substance in your body, then you have a serious problem. Sure, you may not be waking up at
eight in the morning and devouring a bottle of gin, but you are not only putting yourself in danger, but
also others. With the amount of people in the United states that have problems with alcohol, and the
amount of DUI s that are given, the correlation between the numbers is not at all surprising.
Alcohol is the number one drug problem in America. There are more than 12 million alcoholics in the
U.S. Three fourths of all adults drink alcohol, and 6% of them are alcoholics. Americans spend $197

The Warrior Gene Monoamine Oxidase (MAOA)
Crimes are committed daily by people who do not possess MAOA, but it can be more likely for the
person to commit crimes who possess the MAOA gene. The MAOA gene can be found on the X
chromosome and is part of a family of genes which deals directly with chemical messengers such as
dopamine, serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain ( The Warrior Gene: Genetics and Criminology ).
The gene Monoamine oxidase (MAOA) has been linked to many dangerous criminals throughout
history, as the genetic coding leads to the person being more violently natured. Studies have shown
that the majority of criminals prosecuted for violent crimes possess some form of this gene type.

who had a combination of MAOA and CDH13 were extremely more likely to be in a small group of

combinations, the said person has a much higher chance of reacting violently to scenarios when it is a

extremely more violent when intoxicated. MAOA, CDH13, and MAOA l affect the way the brain

the full quality of its meanings... (Grugeon and Gardner 2000: 105) Language is a mixed bag of
contradictions which all of society use to address the specific needs of their group. A teacher s role is

However, to grasp the full meaning of language, Gee conveys the need to view language as a three
dimensional object, requiring human interaction and social context as the further dimensions. Without
human interaction and social context, language is merely an object void of any meaning. It is hard to
find any characteristics of society that plays a role as fundamental as language does (Hudson, 1996, p.
4). Language is therefore seen as more than a tool to communicate. Language is an identity used
distinctly by different groups to recognise people with parallel values and beliefs who share similar
qualities. Vygotsky explains cognitive development as a socially mediated activity which occurs
during social interaction (O Donnell et al. 2016. p. 101). By providing us with this description,
Vygotsky is reinforcing the fundamental role our social settings play in contributing to student s
overall development. Gee explains an important factor of why he believes some student s do not

similar way of using language, of valuing, acting and thinking, these traits make the group easily

Critical Analysis Of Nelson Mandel Long Walk To Freedom
Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom
Nelson Mandela, a leader within the South African society but furthermore throughout the whole
world, has spent his whole life pursuing fairness and freedom for all. The composed philosophical
quote presented within this assignment being, Our single most important challenge is to establish a
social order in which the freedom of the individual will truly mean the freedom of the individual.
appears to show a very calm and collected thought process. This quotation has an extreme importance
in the pursuit of true freedom, demanding not only rights, but true freedom to where the people can

A Journey Back Home At Home
A Journey Back Home There is no place like home. These are familiar words I often hear from people
especially from those who are far away from home. They move or migrate to a different place because
of many reasons; it can be a new job, work abroad, or simply to find better opportunity. Canada has
been my home for the last 25 years. Living here gave me independence and the ability to improve
myself. I m lucky to be given the chance to stay and live in this beautiful country. All my four children

The Cultural Aspects Of The Service A Muralist
What is the purpose of art? There is art for art s sake, there is the percent for art ordinance, and there is
art with the intention of popularity or even to push societal norms. The list can go on and on, but one
of the most respectable purposes is the intention of giving the under privileged a voice of their own in
an environment of oppression. Public muralists single handedly achieve that goal. The service a
muralist gives is not only added aesthetic value to a neighborhood with his or her art piece, but also
giving the community a voice of representation. Murals project the issues of a community, both past
and present. Foremost, the muralists use their open canvas as an opportunity to resurface deep rooted
cultural aspects and matters of the surrounding neighborhood. The expanse and twenty four hour

Painted in southern California, it is a genre painting that is part of the regionalism movement but also
has a religious subject. This painting is currently part of the permanent collection at Bowers Museum
in Santa Ana, California. Phelps s oil painting Wayside Madonna ultimately focuses on the lady in the
foreground, providing a narrative about southern California culture, and places an emphasis on the
need for a more American focus and style of painting that does not rely so heavily on European art.
The painting is organized simply. The background of the painting is painted in an Impressionist style.
The blurring of edges, however, starkly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the desert scene and mountains suggest that this was painted in Southern California. In the
background, one can see a man leading a pack animal, a woman, and an infant along a road towards
the church, identified by the cross on the rooftop. There are no shadows to define form in the
background. This is, again, a contrast to the shadows made by the Madonna in the foreground. The
lack of shadows, however, does not make the background look flat. The Impressionist styled painting
and the lack of detail in the background creates a distant look that gives depth to the painting. The
numerous contrasts between the background and the foreground allows the artist to subtly draw the
viewer?fs attention towards the foreground. These contrasts help grab the viewer?fs gaze and direct it
to the most important part of the painting: the woman and baby. Wayside Madonna has some clear
iconography. The woman dominating the foreground is a direct allusion to the Virgin Mary. Seated
and holding a sleeping male baby in her arms, a violet robe drapes over the figure. The woman wears
a simple white outfit and adoringly looks down towards the baby. This depiction is very similar to the
common depiction of the Virgin Mary holding baby Jesus in religious European art. An important
difference between the European religious Virgin Mary and Wayside Madonna is the skin color. The
Virgin Mary in European art is often painted as white skinned.

Interspairmentry Union Research Paper
This group was called the Interpaliarmentry Union which was an American group. This group was so
influential in terms of promoting and showing a true love for worldwide peace that it captivated one of
Czar Nicholas s minsters M. Basily that, He once began to advocate in Russia the reduction of
armaments [weapons] . (Hull, 4)During 1904 at a session in St. Louis, Missouri a man named Richard
Bartholdt who was the found of the American Interparliamentry Union, proposed a resolution
requesting the governments of all the world to send delegates to a second international conference.
(Hull, Pg. 4). The Union approved one hundred percent and sent a request to President Theodore
Roosevelt to start a conference. The request was for 200 members to go to ... Show more content on

When the cirucular was published, the Russo Japanese war was still continuing at the time. It was not
until 1905 after the Treaty of Portsmouth (which ended the Russo Japanese war largely thanks to
Roosevelt) that the Czar called upon his ambassador in Washington to, Communicate to the President
[his] desire to convoke a second conference at the Hague (Hull, pg 5). By the time an invitation was
sent to the nations and a program of topics were made, it was already April in 1906. Yet again there
was another hold back to the conference thanks to the American Republics. This Latin American union
of sorts was having a conference in Rio Janeiro which postponed the Hague conference till 1907. The
final date of the 2nd Hague conference was June 15th 1907 and because of the success of the first one
it was suggested to have a second one at the same place in hopes for a great result. The conference can
be somewhat compared to the United Nations in a way that it had so many members at such a

Social Deviance
The reproductions of babies are fundamental to life and the ongoing creation of human kind. Our
whole world must face all the great and the not so great that come with the bearing of a child. This
involves mothers having the option to care and nurture their child where ever and whenever they
please, such as breast feeding in public if it were to be an option. However, overtime societies view
and perspective on breast feeding has become more of a deviant act then it was many years ago. While
looking at the deviance of breast feeding in public overtime, it can be viewed in the lenses of social
norms that are divided into 2 groups: folkways and mores. Breast feeding can also fall under the
category of labeling theory and conflict perspective can also play a role in the deviance of social
construct. William Sumner is the genius that decided to place norm into separate groups, such as,
folkway and mores in the year 1906. (The Editors) Folkway is described as the everyday norm that is
based on tradition, custom and mannerism. (Ferrante, 2015) And if a person decides not to follow
through with the folkway norm then it would possibly cause others to think that they are strange or
different from others around them, but it would not cause any type conflict. Folkway connects with
breast feeding if one believes in Christianity and the Virgin Mary because it is said that if one
witnesses the Virgin Mary breast feeding or nursing whether it is through a dream, art or real historical

St Francis Research Paper
Saint Francis, widely known as Saint Francis of Assisi, is one of the world s most beloved and well
known saints. He s the patron of animals, merchants, and ecology. Saint Francis was born in Assisi,
Italy in 1181 to very wealthy parents. Pietro Bernardone, the father of St. Francis, a very wealthy
merchant returned from a trip to France to find out his wife had given birth to a son. The last thing
Pietro wanted was a son that was a man of God, he wanted a man of businessman as a son, a great
merchant like he was, and he wanted a son who would reflect his love with France. So he renamed his
son Francesco, which was a calling of a Frenchman. From the beginning, everyone loved Francis. He
was always happy, charming, and was born a great leader. If he was ever being picky, people would
excuse him. If he was ever sick, people would care of him. He was a very big dreamer, so he did

Saint Francis, himself, said he lived in sin during his teenage years. As many young people, he thirst
of glory and fame, while he set out to join the Fourth Crusade. During his trip, God spoke to him and
told him to go home. While saint Francis was very humiliated, he obeyed and returned home. Later
that day, he came across a leper. He was so moved with compassion he gave the man a kiss as a sign
of peace and later the man vanished. Saint Francis believed God was testing him there. The final
moment of conversion, he was when he visited a dilapidated church and said he heard God tell him to
rebuild the church. Francis that God wanted him to rebuild the church, so he stole money and cloth
from father. Once his father found out what he did he took him to the bishop and sued for the stole.
The bishop told him he had to repay his father and Francis replied renouncing his inheritance and his
family. He decided to dedicate his life to serving the

Identifying Problem Areas Of Brazil
Identifying Problem Areas in Brazil
When moving into international markets, it is crucial to investigate the major types of difficulties that
can arise in other countries. Businesses experience setbacks or failure when they attempt to move into
international markets. The major components that contribute to lack of success include errors in
pricing, distribution, market analysis, or packaging, but may also result from an insufficient
understanding of the infrastructure and culture of the trading nation.
Costing
It is essential to calculate the complete cost of a product for any business. A distributor or wholesaler
must figure out the landing cost (cost of a product after all transportation handling, currency exchange
rates, and import ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Poor roads and a limited rail network push up freight costs. High interest rates mean firms must over
spend on financing; high crime adds heavy security costs to their overheads. A terrible education
system makes Brazil the world s second hardest place for firms to find the skills they need, according
to Manpower Group, behind only ageing Japan. Soaring labour costs, which have doubled in a decade
as big hikes to the minimum wage set the tone for pay negotiations across the board, have added a
new ingredient to the old recipe.
Big price differences mean imports are increasingly taking market share from locals and even
Brazilians of relatively modest means have taken to stocking up on foreign shopping trips. A recent
weakening of the currency will give local manufacturers some breathing space, but in the long term
the only solution is to become more efficient. The World Bank s annual report on doing business in a
range of countries reads like a productivity to do list for Brazil: make it simpler to start up and wind
up companies; cut and streamline taxes; increase domestic savings and investment. A recent study by
the Boston Consulting Group estimated that three quarters of Brazil s growth in the past decade came
from adding more workers and only a quarter from productivity gains. With few more workers to add,
the only way Brazil can start to grow once more is

Dracula As A Gothic Novel Analysis
Dracula is told through a series of letters, journals, newspapers, and other writings instead of a single,
connected narrative. In literature, Dracula would be not only classified as a Gothic novel but also an
epistolary novel. The letters and journals in Stoker s novel tell the reader the plot of the story; In the
beginning of Dracula after the reader leaves Jonathan and enters Mina s world, Mina and Lucy
exchange letters back and forth setting up the rising action of the plot of the novel. In the journals
provided by characters in Dracula contained lifelike details about mundane lives. Stoker uses his
characters to create attachment between them and the reader; Reading about a character s life and
believing it to be ordinary gives the reader a sense of realism that is not provided in most fictional
novels. In David Galens Dracula Novels for students, he states It also helps to counterbalance the
supernatural aspects of the novel by making it seem as if the book is true (Galens 3). In epistolary
novels, the point of view is always typically first person. On the other hand, in Dracula the reader
encounters many first person journal entries, this causes the reader to try and figure out what is going
on by piecing together each person s journal entries encompassing why Dracula is also in Gothic
literature due to its mysterious counterparts. Epistolary novels were on the rise in Stoker s lifetime.
Bram Stoker s works were often influenced by what was going on during his life. Bram Stoker lived
through many social and political reforms in the Victorian era which can be seen in his writing.
Works created in the Victorian era often idealized the Victorian society values. Dracula encompasses
how Victorians wanted to live and hard truths about Victorian fears. Victorians were people who lived
by set limits and their own morals. In Bram Stoker s novel, his characters embody how Victorians
should and should not be. Victorians biggest fear is their morals being affected. In Leila May s article
Foul things of the Night : Dread in the Victorian Body , she backs up this claim by stating The greatest
anxiety seems to be that of moral and social decomposition, as if the stench of death might be detected
in the very

  • 2. Water Quality And Water Pollution CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background information Water is an essential resource for life which greatly influences our public and environmental health as well as providing the pedestal for most of our economic activities. Unsustainable use of fresh water resources, population increase, and the trend in industrial revolution have led to environmental degradation especially by the release of partially treated or untreated wastewater into aquatic systems. Thus, the global freshwater resource is at risk and majority of the problems that humanity faces in the twenty first century are related to water quantity and/or water quality issues (UNESCO, 2009). The importance of water for sustenance of life cannot be overemphasized and its depletion of either through contamination, or careless use results in serious consequences (Owa, 2013). About 70 % of the earth is covered with water, but hardly 2 % of it is quality for drinking (Mann et al., 2014). The relative importance of water quality versus water quantity, sanitation and hygiene education interventions for protecting the population s health has been the subject of considerable debate (Esrey et al, 1985, 1991). Nevertheless, there is broad agreement that good water quality, free of pathogens and heavy metals is important to human health. Water is regarded polluted if some components or condition is existing to such a magnitude that the water cannot be used for a particular purpose. Water pollution affects flora and organisms ... This has created a more elaborate platform for all business activities to be coordinated through an information system protocols. The information system is the management of the information data base of an organization or an institution. • 7. The Power Of Women In The Book Of Esther The book of Esther has two excellent example of empowered women, maybe not in the modern sense of the word but both Esther and Vashti did the best they could with the circumstances they were given. This book deals with problems of sexism, racial discrimination, the mistreatment of women s bodies, and the power given to women. It also shows the changes that strong women can make in their roles in society. Vashti is an example of personal integrity to the women of her society, and Esther is discerning enough to save a whole people group from extinction. The first example of integrity and power in the book is seen through Vashti, King Xerxes first wife. Vashti shows her integrity and power when she refuses to go before the king and his friends for their pleasure. On the seventh day, when King Xerxes was in high spirits from wine, he commanded the seven eunuchs who served him ... to bring before him Queen Vashti, wearing her royal crown, in order to display her beauty to the people and nobles, for she was lovely to look at. Some people believe that when the king requests for Vashti to be displayed in her crown that what he means in only in her crown and nothing else. Even if this is not true the request for her to show off her beauty to him and his drunk friends is revolting. Vashti shows her bravery in her refusal to follow the king s wishes. It appears to be common knowledge that the king can execute anyone who denies him. The description of what happens after this even is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Bruno Bettelheim s Life Divined from the Inside Bettelheim states that Fairy Tales intimate that a rewarding, good life is within one s reach despite adversity but only if one does not shy away from the hazardous struggles without which one can never achieve true identity (Bettelheim 106). Later, her stepmother threw a dish of food into the fire and told her that if in an hour she had picked them up, she could go. Even though the Birds came and picked up the food, Cinderella s stepmother still said no. Her stepmother s reasoning for not letting her go was that she had no clothes and that could not dance. It s hard not to see how hard Cinderella is trying to lead a good life, although she faces so much adversity. Bettelheim might also agree. A difficulty we may have encountered if we would have stayed in the same location longer is people would have noticed. People were extremely busy, but as time went by one girl did notice there was something odd about our table and began to stare. That would have made it awkward and caused a distraction of what our goal if more people noticed us. Another difficulty would be our notes would have been repetitive and it would have been hard focusing. As observers, constantly seeing the same thing, it would just be too much for us. During the observation period we conducted as a group, we felt that it would be very easy since we naturally observe people in our free time. Though through time we felt very creepy and somewhat stupid just sitting around staring at people and writing notes. Nevertheless, an overall feeling was that it was interesting sitting. We observed our fellow classmates, Rutgers students and faculty staff who passed by. • 14. Tap Film Analysis Theo Popa HIST1042 June 22nd 2017 Assignment #4 Topic 1 By 1984 Rock and Roll music was going through a changing phase. From break ups, tragic deaths due to drugs and dangerous lifestyles, unnecessarily long and obnoxious solo performances, and overly loud and unnecessary amps that almost sounded like they were going all the way to 11 instead of 10. It seemed that Rock and Roll was dying out or becoming oversaturated as a musical genre. It is in this environment that the movie This is Spinal Tap bases itself in. This is Spinal Tap is a 1984 mock documentary or mockumentary about a fictitious band named Spinal Tap. The movie is told from the interviewing perspective of director Rob Reiner as he interviews and follows the British band for their United States concert tour for their new album, Smell My Glove . Throughout the film and tour, almost everything seems to be going wrong for the band. From drops in concert attendance, issues releasing their album cover due to controversial imagery, sudden changes in management, and the general childish behaviour of the band holding them back. The film pokes fun at the many real life rock stars and bands that existed at the time; including Yes, Early Genesis, Ritchie Blackmore, The Beatles, Dee Snider, Led Zeppelin etc., and how the media and society viewed them during this era. It shows how society viewed Rock Stars as larger than life idols, often overlooking their obvious flaws until it catches up to them; and contrasts it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Louis Pasteur And Lister Pasteurization and Listerine came from the names of pioneers against germs, who improved the affects of medicine. Experimenting in the late 1800s, scientists Louis Pasteur in France, then Joseph Lister in England, made discoveries that revolutionized patient health. Their work eliminated some of the health risks patients experienced throughout medical processes. Both Louis Pasteur and Joseph Lister transformed treatment, to the process and eventually to the patient during the Industrial Revolution. Before scientific improvements introduced by Pasteur and Lister, there was a lack of cleanliness throughout the surgical process. Medical theory misunderstood the importance of a cleanliness protocol, these faults resulted in sepsis and outpatient deaths. Though the actual surgery would be a success, Ward Fever would claim lives afterwards. Louis Pasteur and Joseph Lister brought to light the effects of illness and benefits of sterilization. Louis Pasteur, a French chemist and biologist, founded the concept of temperature as a way to kill germs. He showed that microorganisms caused liquids such as milk, wine and beer to spoil. He had a mania for being in the right. The slightest hint of disagreement, from anyone, on the most trivial point, was enough to set him off on a harangue that might last for hours, in which he proved himself right in so many ways, and with such exhausting volubility, that in the end his hearer, stunned and deafened, would agree with him, for the sake of peace. • 21. Allusions In Araby Chapter 7 Chapter 7 ...or the Bible In Araby, the beginning of the story starts off with a description of the house in which the boy lives in which includes the mentioning of an apple tree alone in the middle of the yard. The apple tree is a direct allusion to the apple tree in the Genesis story of Adam and Eve where they lived in a garden and could not eat from the apple tree. When the narrator says, I bore my chalice safely through a throng of foes , the chalice represents a holy cup and him carrying it through a throng off foes symbolizes him overcoming a challenge. Substitution atonement is when someone sacrifices themselves so that others do not have to sacrifice themselves or suffer, like how Jesus sacrificed himself to save all of us from our sins. The narrator sacrifices his time to go to the bazaar for a girl that he has never even talked to and probably doesn t even like him. Yet, he sacrifices his feelings and time anyway just for her. When the narrator sees the woman in the bazaar with the two men he realizes his mistake in going there and feels betrayed by himself that he could let himself think that going there for the girl would change anything or make her like him. • 22. Disadvantages Of Cooperative Learning 1. INTRODUCTION The main aim of this essay is to analyse the different aspects of incorporation of cooperative learning (CL) or group work (GW) in an academic environment, specifically within an economic classroom. Furthermore, the contextualisation and definition of cooperative learning will be evaluated in order to speculate whether cooperative learning in a tertiary education institution s economic department is beneficial or detrimental to the working, personal and studying ability of students. Included in this evaluation will be notable examples of CL or GW conducted by university students and the effects thereof. However, due to logical reasoning in which more can be achieved if people work towards a common goal, one could deduce that CL will have a beneficial effect on the working and studying ability of students, including within in economic context. 2. In Victorian period, the idea of family as sacred was expanded through cultural media, social or political discourses and education. Novels like this which included marriage and domesticity contained debates of love and family either principal or secondary story. These kinds of work made people see family as a source of real happiness, despite the fact that abhorrent mistreatment happened in many households. The dining halls at Virginia State University are a major source of meals and food for students. Needless to say, it is important that those students can eat at these dining halls. The problem with this is that the cost of campus dining is way too expensive for the limited options we have. At Virginia State University, students are paying $8,226 per year for their education, while they spend $4,738 for the campus dining. That is basically half of the tuition! While most would hope if they were paying almost the equivalent amount of their tuition on their meal plan, they would be receiving a quality dining plan; however at Virginia State, that is not the case. There are limited choices at VSU; usually only two places are open. If you choose not to eat at Jones dining hall or Foster, you are forced to purchase meals off campus from Friday to Sunday night. This can become quite expensive for an unemployed college student on a budget. It can be worse for those students who do not have transportation. Another issue is the fact that many of the dining facilities are located on the main campus, this makes it harder for students who live on the opposite side to have to walk across campus for food. This limits our choices, even more, considering those who decline to take the long walk for café food that isn t even satisfying. The United States ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The fluctuating thermal administration, particularly when de icing salts are applied on the surface, may prompt scaling at the surface of pavements. By improving the concrete composition for example, by utilizing air entering agent, higher cement content, lower water cement ratios the effect of de icing salt can be diminished. A noteworthy and supported decline in the recurrence of extremely cool days could lessen the danger of pavement harm brought about by frost heave, freeze thaw cycling and defrosting and could therefore decrease maintenance costs. Then again, it is not that simple. As winter gets hotter pavements get more presented to freezing and thawing cycle, prompting premature decay of pavement particularly to the upper layer of asphalt like cracking and ravelling. Hence, in areas where roads are usually frozen in winter, a decrease in the number of very cold days may impact the following; Potentially, a higher frequency of freeze thaw cycles, causing durability and fatigue problems, and greater incidence of black ice. Increased demand for de icing chemicals on account of the higher frequency of freeze thaw cycle, including potential damage from the adverse effect of repeated application. The list can go on and on, but one of the most respectable purposes is the intention of giving the under privileged a voice of their own in an environment of oppression. Public muralists single handedly achieve that goal. The service a muralist gives is not only added aesthetic value to a neighborhood with his or her art piece, but also giving the community a voice of representation. Murals project the issues of a community, both past and present. Foremost, the muralists use their open canvas as an opportunity to resurface deep rooted cultural aspects and matters of the surrounding neighborhood. The expanse and twenty four hour availability of such an art pieces allows the citizens of a town to view and face the realities being represented. An example of this would be John Weber s Unidos Para Triunfar/Together We Overcome. This specific mural brings to light Puerto Rican heroes, unity among the neighboring youth against the drug and gang problems, and problems such as housing, welfare, or religious and cultural heritage. Unidos Para Triunfar expresses the community s rich culture with the Puerto Rican heroes and brings to light the ongoing conflict of drug abuse and gang violence in the area. • 43. Wayside Madonna Wayside Madonna is an oil painting on canvas by Edith Catlin Phelps. It was painted around 1939. Painted in southern California, it is a genre painting that is part of the regionalism movement but also has a religious subject. This painting is currently part of the permanent collection at Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, California. Phelps s oil painting Wayside Madonna ultimately focuses on the lady in the foreground, providing a narrative about southern California culture, and places an emphasis on the need for a more American focus and style of painting that does not rely so heavily on European art. The painting is organized simply. The background of the painting is painted in an Impressionist style. The blurring of edges, however, starkly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the desert scene and mountains suggest that this was painted in Southern California. In the background, one can see a man leading a pack animal, a woman, and an infant along a road towards the church, identified by the cross on the rooftop. There are no shadows to define form in the background. This is, again, a contrast to the shadows made by the Madonna in the foreground. The lack of shadows, however, does not make the background look flat. The Impressionist styled painting and the lack of detail in the background creates a distant look that gives depth to the painting. The numerous contrasts between the background and the foreground allows the artist to subtly draw the viewer?fs attention towards the foreground. These contrasts help grab the viewer?fs gaze and direct it to the most important part of the painting: the woman and baby. Wayside Madonna has some clear iconography. The woman dominating the foreground is a direct allusion to the Virgin Mary. Seated and holding a sleeping male baby in her arms, a violet robe drapes over the figure. The woman wears a simple white outfit and adoringly looks down towards the baby. This depiction is very similar to the common depiction of the Virgin Mary holding baby Jesus in religious European art. An important difference between the European religious Virgin Mary and Wayside Madonna is the skin color. The Virgin Mary in European art is often painted as white skinned. ... • 46. Social Deviance The reproductions of babies are fundamental to life and the ongoing creation of human kind. Our whole world must face all the great and the not so great that come with the bearing of a child. This involves mothers having the option to care and nurture their child where ever and whenever they please, such as breast feeding in public if it were to be an option. However, overtime societies view and perspective on breast feeding has become more of a deviant act then it was many years ago. While looking at the deviance of breast feeding in public overtime, it can be viewed in the lenses of social norms that are divided into 2 groups: folkways and mores. Breast feeding can also fall under the category of labeling theory and conflict perspective can also play a role in the deviance of social construct. William Sumner is the genius that decided to place norm into separate groups, such as, folkway and mores in the year 1906. (The Editors) Folkway is described as the everyday norm that is based on tradition, custom and mannerism. (Ferrante, 2015) And if a person decides not to follow through with the folkway norm then it would possibly cause others to think that they are strange or different from others around them, but it would not cause any type conflict. Folkway connects with breast feeding if one believes in Christianity and the Virgin Mary because it is said that if one witnesses the Virgin Mary breast feeding or nursing whether it is through a dream, art or real historical ... Poor roads and a limited rail network push up freight costs. High interest rates mean firms must over spend on financing; high crime adds heavy security costs to their overheads. A terrible education system makes Brazil the world s second hardest place for firms to find the skills they need, according to Manpower Group, behind only ageing Japan. Soaring labour costs, which have doubled in a decade as big hikes to the minimum wage set the tone for pay negotiations across the board, have added a new ingredient to the old recipe. Big price differences mean imports are increasingly taking market share from locals and even Brazilians of relatively modest means have taken to stocking up on foreign shopping trips. A recent weakening of the currency will give local manufacturers some breathing space, but in the long term the only solution is to become more efficient. • 49. Dracula As A Gothic Novel Analysis Dracula is told through a series of letters, journals, newspapers, and other writings instead of a single, connected narrative. In literature, Dracula would be not only classified as a Gothic novel but also an epistolary novel. The letters and journals in Stoker s novel tell the reader the plot of the story; In the beginning of Dracula after the reader leaves Jonathan and enters Mina s world, Mina and Lucy exchange letters back and forth setting up the rising action of the plot of the novel. In the journals provided by characters in Dracula contained lifelike details about mundane lives. Stoker uses his characters to create attachment between them and the reader; Reading about a character s life and believing it to be ordinary gives the reader a sense of realism that is not provided in most fictional novels. In David Galens Dracula Novels for students, he states It also helps to counterbalance the supernatural aspects of the novel by making it seem as if the book is true (Galens 3). In epistolary novels, the point of view is always typically first person. On the other hand, in Dracula the reader encounters many first person journal entries, this causes the reader to try and figure out what is going on by piecing together each person s journal entries encompassing why Dracula is also in Gothic literature due to its mysterious counterparts. Epistolary novels were on the rise in Stoker s lifetime. Bram Stoker s works were often influenced by what was going on during his life. Bram Stoker lived through many social and political reforms in the Victorian era which can be seen in his writing. Works created in the Victorian era often idealized the Victorian society values. Dracula encompasses how Victorians wanted to live and hard truths about Victorian fears. Victorians were people who lived by set limits and their own morals. In Bram Stoker s novel, his characters embody how Victorians should and should not be. Victorians biggest fear is their morals being affected. In Leila May s article Foul things of the Night : Dread in the Victorian Body , she backs up this claim by stating The greatest anxiety seems to be that of moral and social decomposition, as if the stench of death might be detected in the very ...
